About PricingAlright, I know this is a huge thing in the adoptable community (or, well, the art community in general). I just want to say that, while I know for some my prices may be seen as overpriced, in most cases they are auction adoptables and thus people only pay what they're comfortable with (and whether that be $10 or $100+, please be respectful to the people who do choose to spend their money as they like).
I personally feel the art community is urged to underprice themselves. You don't have to agree with me, but that's what I've gathered from seeing artists over the years. But I'm going to talk about my art for this, specifically adoptables, so here's my breakdown: people are purchasing, not only character art, but the time it took to make as well as a character design. What that may be worth to one person may be worth something completely different to another, so I ask that you please respect that.
For auction prices going too high--I can't agree that there should be a point where
Let me just share some facts with ya'll...So it's just a normal day and you're just browsing your all-time favorite website, DeviantART. But then something catches your eye, a Deviation with a nicely drawn full-body with an interesting design. You click on it and see that design sold for a whopping 200+ USD. THAT'S ABSOLUTELY CRAZY, RIGHT?? I mean how dare the artist accept a good few hundred dollars for a design that even an ape could've made. After all, art doesn't take years and years of practice and anyone can just pick up a pen and pop out some great anatomy and originality.Let me just share some facts with ya'll...3 years ago in Personal More Like This
OHH BUT THE ARTIST ISN'T ENTIRELY AT FAULT HERE. Oh no, it's also the buyer's fault for spending so much goddamn money on a piece of digital art that the artist probably copied out of a Vogue magazine (since designing is effortless!!). How dare the buyer spend their money on something they love and enjoy instead of donating it all to starving children in third world countries along with all their luxury goods (like computers, television sets etc

I decided to make a more formal entry to prevent any future confusion over my adoptables, don't mind this lkmdg mostly just separating the earlier entry I made on guidelines + pricing so people don't think they have to read my rant on pricing LKMSG. while it's obvious I'm not very formal in my entries like this so please bear with me, I just want to get the basic gist across in an easy and understandable way. i hope to clean up my page to make all this stuff easy and accessible to find but i suck at coding anything so lol cries waits for seventy-three years
By purchasing an adoptable from me, you agree to the following:
Upon purchasing, you own the character. You may do whatever you wish with them, including using them for commercial work, you just can not use my art commercially.
Please credit me for the design where necessary.

A probable solution to commission chargebacks.Artists who create commissions know one caveat with accepting PayPal: their Seller Protection doesn't cover services, so they can and will be SOL if the buyer decides to dispute the transaction. While Buyer Protection doesn't cover services either, PayPal is notorious for ruling in the favor of the buyer, so the seller needs to look into other ways of protecting themselves.A probable solution to commission chargebacks.2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Which leads to our discussion here, of how we can leverage Seller Protection to ensure scamming buyers can't run off with the money after the service is completed -- by converting your commission service into a tangible product.
Seller Protection covers tangible products that can be shipped to the buyer, and by making a commission, you can take advantage of this by printing out your commission and mailing it to them. Right there, you have a tangible, physical item that is mailed to the buyer, and thus is covered by Seller Protection.
Adjust your commission information and terms of service to indicate the buyer is pu

Although it'll take time to get over this terrible dilemma and build trust again, especially for the artists who almost lost a grand deal of money and need it badly and might still be dealing with the aftereffects, this is certainly a victory to be celebrated at the moment! If it were

I think it's best if the group has a written list of people who are a threat to this community due to scamming, unacceptable/rude behavior, and/or theft.
This is not meant to shame anyone, but rather warn prospective buyers/sellers.
So please do not harass these users, just AVOID them.
Avoid selling/buying from these users at all costs. If any of them try to sell/trade you a Sushi Dog, it is most likely a fraud, so please contact the admins right away.
Reason: Claimed to own 2 Sushi Dogs that already had owners, and then sold them. Later noted me with a confession, and refunded the points to me, which I then dispersed back to those who were scammed.
Reason: Claimed to own the Octopus Sushi Dog, plus a Cinnadog, and tried to sell them off to another user.

I just came by your profile and saw your art, and was very impressed. I think you have a very nice art style. Now I'm working on this project. It's called <project>. It's an awesome story about <subject>. I'm currently writing the script for it, but I'm planning to make a visual novel. I can't tell too much about the story, since I don't want it to be copied, but it's going to be really cool. The point is; I need illustrators. I'm an excellent writer, but I can't do illustration at all. And therefore, I wanted to ask for your help. I need about 60 pages illustrated and colored. Would you work together with me on this one? I don't have any money to spend, as I'm not an established writer yet. But when the visual novel gets published, you can get a percentage of my profit.
With kind regards,

Artists Beware: Character Thief! *UPDATE*Hi Everyone! I am writing this journal to tell all of you to beware of this art thief.Artists Beware: Character Thief! *UPDATE*1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Art thief: sukibelle (sukibelle.deviantart.com)
Sukibelle has basically stolen/ripped off my OC's design to make her own character.
My heartbby OC: Hinata
Sukibelle's stolen/ripped off character that she made: Delight
***Delight was designed by sukibelle. Wolphfe did not design Delight at all. And Delight was not a MYO.
For easier reading, all conversations reads from top to bottom, top for the earliest notes.
On June 24,2014, I won my heartbby bunny OC which I named Hinata in wolphfe's auction for $401. (Yes, I was crazy because I really wanted this heartbby a lot)
On the last day of the auction, I received notes from sukibelle asking me if I can trade this heartbby bunny if I won him. But I refused her offers because I want to finally be able to get a heartbby on my own without having to trade with others for one. Notice that suki

reposted art removalI think a lot of people might already know this but having only recently found it myself. I think it's a good opportunity to share it with everyone! If someone has posted your art on deviantart without your permission, there's a really simple way of having taken down instead of filing a report (which, from experience is completely ineffective). All you have to do is fill out this form, it's a DMCA form which means as the copyright owner of the art you can elect to have it taken down, by law.reposted art removal2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I didn't find out about filing DMCAs on deviantart until I googled it (silly I know) but they have long existed on tumblr and I've also seen one on weheartit.com. Filing DMCAs seem to be a lot more effective, the art is taken down in a couple of days. And in the case with tumblr all reblogs of the post in question are also deleted, along
The Commissioner's Guide to Proper Etiquette tips & tricks to ensure that the artist does not hate your guts after you commission themThe Commissioner's Guide to Proper Etiquette4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Take the time to realize this is aimed at commissioners, not artists. Yes, there are a ton of things artists fuck up on, trust me, I know. Oh, I know. However that alone could be a whole 'nother journal- which I might go ahead and do because I've had frustrating experiences with artists. When I'm talking about bad commissioners here though, I'm talking about the worst of the worst. Why on earth do I think a timid question 3 weeks after your commission was accepted asking about how it's going is "badgering"?
These are things I've witnessed, I'm talking about the horribly entitled, belittling, superior attitude commissioners! The ones that send you a billion notes and PMs asking when their art will be done, and rudely, when it's only been 3 days! So no, I'm not saying artists should step all over you- because trust me, some will. And by god, they sh
ALWAYS SIGN YOUR WORK and other stuffHi folks. I was gonna make this journal sooner or later, but there's not a more appropriate time than NOW, when my 'Sorry we're closed' http://ry-spirit.deviantart.com/art/Sorry-we-re-CLOSED-162673296 artwork got posted on 9gag right http://m.9gag.com/gag/6281912 ! Not only did the person not credit the artist or link it to my page or whatever, they even changed the title of this artwork to 'S**t Happens'. Come on man... WHAT ALSO sucks is that back then I had a different logo, its like that box with a thunder symbol on it, it doesn't have my username on it either... so people could just look at that picture and have no idea who drew it. I mean this artwork is OLD.. like more than 2 years old.. so I was still new to how the internet works when it comes to sharing. So now this 9gag post gets like 16k of likes and over 500k of views and I don't get a single credit. *Flips a table*. It was a cold day in February. I can still remember that day.
It wasn't that busy at my job. Just another day of mostly waiting for feedback. So I took the liberty to surf around the internet for a bit. Like every day before, I checked DeviantArt. I had posted some art some while ago. I submitted it to some groups, but didn't quite get the response that I hoped for. Let alone; the feedback. It's hard to get feedback on your art. Nowadays most people just fave and run, or tell you that your work is awesome (which is sweet, of course) without any further explanation. Most of the art forums that I used to reside on, where either dead, or I'd outgrown the user-base so much that I was at the point that there weren't any more talented users that could give me feedback anymore. If I had to wrap it up in just one word: Frustrating. That's what is was.
Of course I had my idols on DeviantArt. Famous people like yuumei en sakimichan whose watchers hit those astronom

Adoptables are Original Characters, short OC, created by one deviant to be obtained by others.
There are different ways of how to get hold of them, that will be explained in detail further below of this article.
While the copyright and the idea remains to be property of the adoptable creator, the new owner usually has the right to do "whatever they want" with the OC.
That means, they can change certain characteristics of the overall look, can give them names, can create background stories and everything else that makes them a complex character. Additionally to that they can use that adopt to be used as avatars, in new artworks, as page dolls, as characters in stories or RPG and much more.
Of course there are still rules by the original creator that should be followed.
Mostly people who are not much into visual art and those that have a hard time to come up with original characters themselves do benefit from them. Adoptables are always pre-made and that means you al

As a Community Volunteer I spend a lot of time pouring through the Artisan Crafts galleries looking for art that deserves a bigger audience. I dig through every little hidden corner of the galleries looking at every type of craft, made by everyone from the most watched members to the day old newbies. And every time I do this, I have to double check it all for originality.
My time doing this had shed light on a massive problem inherent in the AC galleries: copyright violation
Now, I'm not talking about the obvious I-stole-your-picture-and-uploaded-it violations. I'm talking about something much more subtle, to the point it feels like most of the perpetrators don't actually realise they're doing it. I'm often about to give someone a DD, until I read their description and find it completely devoid of credit. Rather than getting a site-wide feature, these artists end up on my blacklist instead. It all boils dow
Awesome Tool for Artists who take CommissionsI've been recently introduced to an application/program called Producteev. It's a task manager system with a few awesome perks such as being able to share projects with friends so an entire group of people can view it, create tasks with sub tasks, and put it on every device you might own. You can also upload files to it, so say you're working on a collab project with someone - you can upload your part, they can work on theirs and upload it accordingly and you get notified. I have it on my Mac Book and Iphone and I manage everything with it now... it's been a god send with managing my business. I have every artist from the new art book and all of their information neatly organized, all new orders from my shop, and even restocking information.Awesome Tool for Artists who take Commissions2 years ago in Personal More Like This

I'd just like to mention publicly, that I, as well as artists in general, are not art vending machines.
You don't type suggestions in, and then have a slot where artwork comes out for free .
Important to Note: I am not addressing any individual in particular. If you think this is about *you* specifically ( whoever you are)- don't. This about the private notes I get, with alarming volume, where people feel they can simply request artwork from me for free. I get a *lot* of these. Which prompted me to post something about it. I usually just ignore them, or, if I feel particularly polite that day, I send them a note back saying I don't do requests.
But they never stop o_O. And it's not that I mind suggestions in comments under artwork, such as: "Oh, I hope one day you will paint _________." or, "

Commission - Approach and Pricing GuideDo you do commission work? Do you have trouble to get customers in order to buy commissions from you? Or Are you in a dilemma to set your own "competitive" commission price?Commission - Approach and Pricing Guide2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
If your answer is "yes" to any of the above questions then you are at the right place! Today, I'll tell you (or at least give you a better idea) how to start up with your commission work and setting up the right price.
A little introduction about myself: I am a hobby-driven artist who mainly deals with CSS coding and graphics designing (now) in deviantART. As a profession I am currently employed as an online marketing professional who looks after two leading online gaming brands. I like to help people customize their pages and support them to be a better artist in deviantART.
Having given my short introduction let us first understand that why most of us face a lot of trouble to get commission work or worst, to set up the "right" price for their service.
To my surprise, in a
