This is NOT directed towards people who have general opinions (go ahead, have em'). This is a response to some of the recent EXTREME attitudes that I've seen around here and Tumblr. If you don't like candid opinions, please click here. You will not be disappointed.
It's probably more in defense of TTGO than BTB, since I've seen more people grumble about that show. Teen Titans and Teen Titans Go are not the same show. Let's get that straight out. It's not a continuation, it is a variation. If you can understand that, then maybe it will be less painful for you.
Teen Titans Go may not be your cup of tea, it might irritate you, it might even make you mad. Boycotting DC Nation because you want to stick it to those CN an

"The Story Initiative Program at DreamWorks Animation is a comprehensive immersion program for recent college graduates who wish to pursue artistic careers as story artists.
The objective of the program is to identify and train entry-level storytellers in the techniques and practices of storyboarding for feature-length animated films. Over the course of an initial three month curriculum, trainees are instructed by a DWA senior story artist in a training environment that replicates the production environment on actual projects. Why it's important to put a disclaimer in art descEDIT: HI Please don't reply to the original comment unless you have serious inquiries. And if you do be mindful to be polite! U v U But this is specific to their case (though if it happens once it has to happen more than once) so I find value in warning others. DA does take the images down when reported most of the time without the disclaimer but it really can't hurt and it gives them less excuses to not carry through with your report. Thank you!Why it's important to put a disclaimer in art desc3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Wow, so up till today I always found the "Please don't trace, redistribute, copy etc" was unnecessary in a lot of comments since people are going to do what they're going to do no matter what right? But wow lo and behold I found this comment in the disqus section of Artist Confessions. Basically what it's saying is due to DA's rules if the artist doesn't say to not trace then they cannot penalize reported tracers. At least that's what I'm drawing from

Best art adviceI'm often asked by students my method of thinking and philosophy behind how I work. Frank BensonBest art advice1 year ago in Personal More Like This
put it best. I don't think it can be explained more clearly.
''Do carefully and well what you do. If you haven't time to finish a sketch, make what you do count. Don't hastily rub it in just to cover the canvas and say to yourself you will go back and do it better later—that's lazy, and besides it never looks the same."

Minimum Wage ArtistsTo my fellow artists, creatives, illustrators, and concept designers,Minimum Wage Artists1 month ago in Personal More Like This
Do not work for less than minimum wage.
Companies like Fantasy Flight Games ask artists to do a fully painted illustration and sign away nearly all rights to that piece for just $100. That is rude, disgraceful, and downright wrong. We need to bring this to light so it can stop.
For a company pulling in tens of millions of dollars in revenue annually, surely they are capable of paying their freelance artists a reasonable rate.
$100, assuming the average artist will take around 15 hours to complete the work (factoring in communication, research, revisions, actual painting, and invoicing), will earn the artist somewhere around $7/hour, less than the current US federal minimum wage.

CONS AND MERCHHello everyone! I hope you're all doing well!CONS AND MERCH3 years ago in Personal More Like This

I am going to try and visit a few cons this year and.. hopefully more in the future! I have already visited TCAF.. and next on the agenda are:
Otakon (July 27-29th, Baltimore)
Otakuthon (August 3-5th, Montreal)
Yaoi-Con (Oct 12-14th, LA)
I'll be sure to make an announcement (similar to the TCAF journal) just before the con with table numbers and any more information!
/// MERCH ///
I have had a few notices of people selling Starfighter merchandise (at cons and here on DA) and I thought I should address this issue to avoid any confusion: it is not okay to sell any mass produced Starfighter related merchandise for profit, such as prints, t-shirts, hoodies, etc.. if someone commissions you for a unique Starfighter drawing, that's fine, but making a bunch of Starfighter buttons is not. As always, you can contact starfightercomic @ gmail.com with any questions or ideas! Or just send me a note here! (I can't alway

Artist Alley, more business than pleasure? Before I get into this I want to apologize for sounding preachy, but a growing pet peeve of mine over the years as I converse with peers at Artist Alleys is an increase of fanart that's not actually by fans.Artist Alley, more business than pleasure?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
What I mean are all these illustrators flocking to the scene that for the most part, just spit out work of popular subject matter for the sake of sales.
Now I'm not naive, many artists sign up at Artist Alley are clearly there for the income and that's totally cool but come on guys. At their core, comic/anime conventions should be about gathering with others to celebrate geeky shit you're passionate about. It's about sharing your fandoms with others, right? Ideally.
So when I see a booth that is mostly composed of say... League of Legends lady pinups I'd be like "Oh cool, this person plays League too! I should totally geek out with them" but after a quick exchange of words it turns out they don't actually play. Or they did, like once but don't really like it. They're in it f

After, I provided my pricing for what they was interested in:
On the Journey i go.Hey guys, so i wanted to just post up a ramble really, lol. Im going to be disappearing from the internet for a bit, im sure iw ill post things up here and there, but for the most part, i will be away. I think its time to really step my game up and learn again, so i will be on a journey learning from various artists and styles, and really pushing myself again. Its weird working in animation (and comics too im sure) but you tend to draw SOOOO much, that you grow at a RIDICULOUS rate, but because of the nature of your job and the monotony of it, there is usually little windows at a time for you to introduce some of what you learn into your system. Well, im am taking a good amount of time away from the studios right now in order to implement some of what i have learned over the last few years. I hope that you guys will take the time to do the same. its been a great lesson thus far. Anyway, that its all, if you guys have thoughts or sites or anything to share in that direction, i would lovOn the Journey i go.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
ANIMATION FACT....The conventional Anime style (big eyes, large heads & proportions) origin traces back to Osamu Tezuka (1928-1989/Astro Boy, Kimba The White Lion, Black Jack), unanimously known as 'The Godfather of Anime' who was heavily influenced by the style's of Max Fleischer's BETTY BOOP & Disney's BAMBI. Encouragement for art studentsHey guys,Encouragement for art students1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Always being around students and teaching; there's something I've started to notice. I'm able to see which students push and have the strong desire to get better
and ones that draw with their mouth. I've stopped wasting time on the ones that draw with their mouth.
Most beginner students give up too easy. I see more potential in them then more advanced artists I draw with. There are some of my friends I stopped
calling out because I came to realize that they just kinda want to get better. ( I also don't want their attitude rubbing off on me.) They say they want to get better but it's clear that they just "kinda" want to get better. One guy asks a lot ," What are you working on? " As soon as I answer with explanation he always responds with, " Man I should be working on that." Then does nothing. Actually that's not true, he tells students the stuff I told him like he had figured it out. I don't mind becaus

I realized the other day that I get quite a few notes with really great questions. Some of the information seemed like it would be useful to others so I figure I would share a handful of them on occasion. The names have been removed and some of the notes have been edited down from the original.
Q: Do you agree with quote that talent is 1% and time spent on drawing, and practicing it is 99%?
A: It's really hard to quantify something like the percentage of talent vs practice when it comes to the quality of your final drawing. I see talent as something more interwoven into someone's ability rather than a "gift" that automatically makes them have a higher degree of skill. For example, someone may grasp an artistic concept faster than others or they might have a better feel for spatial reasoning but they may struggle with other things like color temperature or brush work.
Artwork itself is a multifaceted sk
Mistaking pornography and artistic nudityA.k.a. Deviantart admins FAIL again.Mistaking pornography and artistic nudity3 years ago in Personal More Like This
This is not the first time that they do.
Today I was browsing around on deviantart searching for some "shower" pictures to get ideas for a project. And I found this: http://browse.deviantart.com/?qh=§ion=&global=1&q=showering#/d2gysln
Anyhow I see it, it's not what the "artist" says about what it is. Soap MY ASS. There is a HUGE gap in between artistic nudity and pornographic content. THIS http://browse.deviantart.com/photography/people/nude/?order=9 is artistic nudity.
I wanted to report it but the report button said:

Comment: Thank you for your report. A member of our staff has reviewed the deviation but has found that it does not meet the current official definition for "pornography" which is in use.
