Massive Mario Collab - Allowing 2 more chars now! SubjectMassive Mario Collab - Allowing 2 more chars now!2 months ago in Personal More Like This
[Update] Since a month has passed, you're now allowed to do up to seven characters. So, if you already hit your five max, feel free to sign up for another one! And you can also do two at a time now if you so wish so we can get this done a little quicker.
For this collab, we will be drawing all the Mario characters we can!
:iconattention-plz: PLEASE READ ALL THE RULES BEFORE SIGNING UP! I don't want you to draw a character and not be allowed in because you missed a rule. ;_;
You don't have to be part of the group to join in the collaboration, but it's HIGHLY recommended at least for the duration of the collab because if I have any updates or new rules, I'm going to send the message here.
Any Mario character can only be in the collab once. In other words, if someone has already taken him/her/it, then you can't sign up them again.
When we're done, Zimeta will put together all the individual girls
Small Hints how to get views, faves etc.For a lot of you it might be nothing new, but since many of you are either new on dA or not experienced with something like "strategies" to get views, comments and faves for their works i (your most favourite dA group guy :icongbk666: ) thought i write up a few hopefully useful hints for you.Small Hints how to get views, faves etc.7 months ago in Personal More Like This
1. Upload as many drawings / photos etc. as you can. Some of you would argue now that it can be counterproductive if the deviations are not good, but i come to that point in #2
2. Join Groups. A Ton of them.. at least 15-25 . And submit your stuff to them on a regular base. BUT only the things you consider by yourself as "good" . The rest is for your gallery only, and interesting for those deviants who want to see sketches, WIP's etc.
A photographer often makes 100-500 photos in a 2-3 hours long shooting..but in the end only 1-3 of all these photos are getting uploaded /used for something since they are the best. Quality >Quantity . Always think that way.
Halloween Contest Win $50 - 1 week leftOnly 10 days left, now is basically your last chance to participate in the anual :icongame-art-hq: contest, read the details about the theme, prizes and rules below:Halloween Contest Win $50 - 1 week left3 months ago in Personal More Like This
The Theme: Scary Video Game related Fan Art. all kinds of visual art are allowed, digital and traditional drawings, photos of sculptures, 3D model art (must be own models, ripped characters models don't count) or cosplay art.
You choose the game, the setting, the characters, important is only that it is something scary. Not scary in a cute way like a nice King Boo from Mario World, but really scary stuff, yes gore and violence is allowed as well. Gritty stuff, morbid stuff, horror elements are all fine.
Everything from a really scary looking undead League of Legends character to Pokemons etc is allowed.
In this contest you can also add characters from non-video game media like Freddy Krueger, Jason or the Super Natural Winchester Brothers getting eaten alive by Kirby. This contest is very unusual for this group, I k

AND THE WINNERS ARE....
TheLastAdventurer :with great lighting, a great expression, and a great style! This piece is simply wonderful!
NeoZ7:this is a very simple, but effective piece. It looks so good it almost looks like a capture from some sort of Mario TV show! The coloring style is great, and I enjoy the expression! Excellent job!
Villaman89: This is killer! I love the poses and that they actually drew an actiony sequence, which I appreciate. Real media is always something to be admired, and I like the style.
Thanks to all who entered, voted, and commented on the entries! We hope to see you
A Summer Contest Begins Today!Hello everyone!A Summer Contest Begins Today!5 months ago in Personal More Like This
To celebrate the 1 year Anniversary of Mario and Luigi Dream Team, our group is holding a summer contest, with the deadline being July 12th.
Seeing as summer is finally here, and the game's setting being on holiday, the theme shall be Summer/Beach/Pool/Holiday. It would also be a good idea to make sure you feature Luigi in your submission, befitting the group's name. You can find the submission folder named 'Summer Contest' now in the gallery.
The prizes this time are:
1st Place: 800 Points
2nd Place: 500 Points
3rd Place: 300 Points
With around a month and a half until the deadline, we hope you will all find some time to submit and compete!
Once again Admin :iconsagojyousartpage: and myself :iconwalkerp: will be judging on the quality of the piece, originality and adherence to the theme.
OCs are indeed allowed, as long as the main cast are featured alongside them.
If anyone has any questions, do not hesitate to ask!

Welcome to the first in a series of spotlights on the Madefire publishing tools. For those of you have haven’t heard of Madefire—watch this short video.
Publishing here on DeviantART is now a reality. While the app was created with comics in mind the DeviantArt community have started to use it in all manner of wonderful ways it wasn’t designed for, with some awesome results.
Here is a small selection of material produced by the community that shows a variety of ways you can publish your work. From comics to short prose stories and poems. Yep, you heard right. Poems, too.

Mario and Luigi: Dream Team Bros.As the title suggests, Mario & Luigi: Dream Team Bros. came out in my country and Europe yesterday. In fact, we're the first ones to get the game!! :iconmeowdummyplz: :iconhappymeowplz: :iconfuckyeahplz: At least, the tables have been turned on the Americans and the Japanese people. [rofl] On the bright side, it's fair now. The [United States of America] and Japan now have to play the "waiting game". You know, karma. What goes around, comes around. At long last, these said countries will get a taste of how we Brits and Europeans feel to wait so long for a game to be released. In a way, it feels satisfying. [Peace] I mean, seriously, how'd you like it if we had to wait for a very long, long time, huh? [frustrated]Mario and Luigi: Dream Team Bros.1 year ago in Personal More Like This

In part two I'm gonna talk about one of the biggest roadblocks I hear from artists who are having difficulty getting in to good study habits, so without further ado...
WISDOM NUMBER TWO!! Don't wait for perfect weather and stop making excuses. So often I hear things like "I don't want to waste paper" or "I don't know what to draw" or "I haven't found a good tutorial" or "I don't want to study perspective" or any number of things along those lines. I'll be blunt and just put the answer out there now: get over it. If you want to be an artist, you have to do the work, end of story. And with all the time you've spent thinking, wondering, being uncertain, and searching for that magical art secret of power, you could have filled 10 pages in your sketchbook today and inc

WISDOM NUMBER THREE!!! Work smart and leave your comfort zone. This part is my qualifier for art school, tutorials, and educational resources in general, because they can be good, but only if you make them good. Once you've gotten in to the habit of drawing consistently, it's important to start being mindful of what you're drawing, how you're drawing it, and why you're drawing it. A key ingredient of success is hard work, but if that work isn't purposeful it might not move you

Advice for Aspiring Artists Pt. 1So this has been on my mind a bit lately and I was just struck with the sudden urge to write about it. It's a bit long so I've broken it in to three parts, but if you're a beginning artist I would recommend reading through it, it might just get you aimed in the right direction.Advice for Aspiring Artists Pt. 11 year ago in Personal More Like This
This started a couple days ago when I was trolling facebook and someone had posted some artwork, and one of the comments was something along the lines of "Nice! What tutorial did you use for this?" which prompted an immediate and violent facedesk on my part. I hear things like this all the time and would like to help dispel some myths about learning art; so after 9 years of drawing and 3 years of hardcore education and study, here's what I've learned about how to get better at art:
WISDOM NUMBER ONE! Getting better demands consistent, hard work. That's it. That's the magical secret that great artists never seem to get to in their tutorials; it's that one pivotal thing that makes the difference between

The sections work like this:
This is 'classic' comic material. No bells, no whistles, just no bullshit, honest comics. (Indie creators and publishers should know we can put their material up within a couple of weeks of sending us a PDF. If your book isn't here you should ask yourself why not?)
This is where we continue to push the medium with a wide variety of cutting edge digital storytelling unique to each book. We also have books from top publishers - those that have had vision and were willing to push the envelope. You can get sucked in for hours.
We also have a deviantART section that features two categories:

Mario's Blacklist is the Name for the next BIG Art Collaboration and basically the Super Mario Bros Series equivalent to Link's Blacklist.
The big focus are again the many enemies and bosses of the complete Mario Universe, ranging from Super Mario Bros to Super Mario World 3D, and all spinoffs like Mario RPG and and and.
As usual since 2014, you the Game-Art-HQ Contributors were able to participate a bit earlier than everyone else!
Rules and standards:
No gore, no sex, lets stick to the original designs.
Every artist can claim exactly one Enemy or Boss character of a Super Mario Game, from the Goomba to Bowser, all enemies and specific designs are allowed
Every enemys /boss can be claimed by only one artist in this first round of the project. If this new art collaboration will continue, the characters can get drawn by more artists just like how we did it in Link's Blacklist
With our latest Art Collaborations we raised the bar and also a ton

Take your art to higher lever in 4 simple steps!
For people who are serious about drawing and want to make career in art! And for me to stop getting questions on how to practice, or how do you get better
Are you stuck and don't know how to carry on making great art?
You just want to draw better?
If an answer to any of these questions is 'yes' then you might find this interesting...
Since the only thing I ever acknowledged myself good at is getting better I decided to share a couple of tricks.
I truly believe it works in every single case.
It's true. You can get out now or shut up and listen and get better.
(oh and do I need to mention that you need to draw a lot to get better?
I didn't draw a lot and still got better because I followed the steps listed below. But yeah, may not work without drawing a lot...)
Step 1. Honesty.
Be aware of your own limitations. They're usually bigger than you really think, despite what people say. I won't be talking about fals

As far as this tutorial's subject matter is concerned, I feel comfortable explaining about ninety percent of what follows. However, I want this to be as accurate as possible, so I've gone to other sources online to back me up (primarily to fill in the gaps of my knowledge in terminology). I've included the links to these sources immediately below as well as in the author's description. I will refer to them throughout the tutorial by their source number (Source 1, Source 2, etc). If you wish to better your grammar even further, I particularly recommend grammarbook.com (Sources 2 and 3). Note that all the examples I give in this tutorial were not taken from the sources; they are my own.

Art Books/ResourcesBecause I have a surprising numer of people asking about this (and since I deleted the original post), here are the books I would recommend the most for those studying art. I understand that books are expensive (they take the place of me not being able to take art classes/go to art school), so remember that the best way to learn is to practice from what you see around you!Art Books/Resources3 years ago in Personal More Like This
With that said, these are the ones I have personally used and either live by or would heavily suggest:
•The New Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain - Betty Edwards (this book is absolutely brilliant for those of you just starting out. It's an ingenious resource if you haven't got your own way of doing things. It messed me up because I've been doing things and learning things my own way for years now, but for those of you getting back
