Creating a Beautiful Fractal ImageThere are so many beautiful fractal images in the art world...Creating a Beautiful Fractal Image1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
...and the ones here at Deviant Art are no exception! The images are as diverse as each person who creates it. I am a lay-person on the subject when it comes to explaining the art itself. Simply put...fractals are based on Mathematical Equations. The how and the why of this explanation still eludes me, but the beauty of the images keep my creating them. For information about the underlying mathematics check this Wikipedia link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractals
This journal will look at the elements that go into creating a beautiful Fractal Image, rather then the complexity of the base mathematics.

No, I am not going to be polite. Fuck you.
I am saying that that because I don't know how else to. Do you know why?
Because dA does only love kids and their parents income.
So, dA has implemented a new feature that lets you search for commissions within certain price ranges. That's great, right?
Not really. Because some solvent-abusing staff member on dA felt like it was a really, really good idea to yet again pander to the kids to squeeze every kind of cheap penny of out them.
You know, it's fine. It's something I would expect from SheezyArt or whatever that piece of shit is called.
So, why am I angry again? It's only been a week since my last outburst, right?
Well, dA has this thing of completely fucking over every update they make.
The system itself is fine. It's great. But I'll tell you what isn't: dA IS ACTIVELY DEVALUING THE PRICE OF ART ON ITS OWN SITE WITH IT.
Now, I might seem all bitter and hateful as usual, bu

How are you today ?
Today, I was browsing my art RSS feed, when I see this wonderfull article on Fubiz about snowflakes. (available in English by clicking on "Français" on the top right corner of the article )
A Russian photograph called Andrew Osokin succeed to give us impressive macroscopic snapshots of snowflakes !
Wait !! What ??? you gonna make us read something about photography ! But ... But... You're the Fractal Community Volunteer! not the photography one...
Yes I will ! And why??
Because I'm not only a fractal artist, I'm an art lover... and how do I improve my skill ?
By taking inspiration from other mediums, by looking for some new artworks everyday !
And this is quite interesting, believe me...you'll learn a lot by doing this !

Fractal in the nature II : Earth viewHi deviants !Fractal in the nature II : Earth view2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
How are you today ?
Did you enjoy your holidays ? Mine was awesome, I just miss deviantART so much
In this Fractal in nature article, last time we spoke about snowflakes, which are just macroscopic !
Now let's see something bigger... you know ... like the Earth size!
Earth is round just round there's no fractal in a round !
In fact your right... almost right. Because we'll see fractals on earth from space today !
To quote the article :
Thanks to satellite Landsat 5 in orbit for 29 years, we can discover beautiful pictures of our planet. The device, now put out, was able to capture more than 2.5 million images of the Earth during its 150 000 revolutions of the globe.
What can we see in those 2.5 millions of images ?
A lot's of awesome fractals made by the nature itself !
Basics of Colour - for Ultra FractalLooking at parameters, both from DA and Ultra Fractal Mailing list I have noticed a lack of understanding as to how colours interact. So I have decided to write a few helpful hints.Basics of Colour - for Ultra Fractal1 year ago in Personal More Like This
1) The Colour Wheel - http://www.colormatters.com/color-and-design/basic-color-theory
All colours can be made from just three. Blue, Red and Yellow - for instance if you mix Blue and Red you get Purple, Red and Yellow make orange etc. Blue Red and Yellow are called primaries. Purple, Green and Orange are called Secondaries and Tertiaries are combinations of two of these
Basics of Colour - The Colour Wheel (just click on thumbnail for parameter file)
2) RGB v CYMK
RGB - Red Green and Blue relates to the colours that are mixed by an imaging device (TV screen, Monitor, Digital Camera) to produce an image
CYMK- Cyan (Blue) Magenta (Red) Yellow and Black refers to the colours that a printer's inks

Fractals and MusicFor many artists, art and music go together. Fractalists are no exception. Ask any fractalist if they listen to music while they make fractals, and I suspect well over half the time they will answer in the positive. Personally, I'm a music fiend, and certainly over half the works in my gallery will contain a link to a soundtrack. Many are named after songs, lyrics, or some other aspect of the music I'm listening to. I find that music informs and inspires what I'm working on, either on a subconscious or conscious level. I also experience what I call a mild tactile synaesthesia - sounds, beyond any emotional impact, create physical sensations in me. I experience timbres as textures. Drums dance upon me. Filter sweeps and guitar feedback can be ecstatic... All this affects how I create fractals (and gnarls, for that matter). I strongly encourage anyone who creates fractals to see how music affects them, and how it informs and inspires what they're working on.Fractals and Music7 months ago in Art Features More Like This

Stylish Pixels: the Versatility of Fractal ArtFractals have wide application in the modern world, and can be used for purposes as simple as basic screensavers or as complicated as detailed environment generation in games and movies. While fractals can be used as tools, they also can be used to create beautiful, abstract, and awe-inspiring artwork in a virtually limitless number of ways. This article will attempt to do a quick summary of fractal artwork, from basic applications of fractals in artwork, to a look at the community itself.Stylish Pixels: the Versatility of Fractal Art7 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Stylish Pixels: the Versatility of Fractal Art
There are three "categories" that I consider encapsulate fractal art as a whole:
- Fractals as "objects" that can be "photographed."
- Fractals as "brushes" that paint and shape various sections of the fractal.
- Fractals as "paint."

A short guide to direct colouringSince Xyrus-02 introduced direct colouring as a default feature in 7X.14, the facility has been available for any Apophysis artists keeping up with the 7X series. There seems, however, to be a fairly widespread confusion over what it is and how to use it.A short guide to direct colouring4 years ago in Personal More Like This
It helps initially to understand how a normal flame fractal is coloured. Each variation effectively possesses a coordinate system that makes a contribution to the overall structure of the flame, and the colouring follows this structure. However, we can also consider separating that coordinate system from the structure and applying it directly to the gradient. Taking linear as the trivial example, the gradient in mapped by the coordinate system of the variation, and so appears in pure form as a series of vertical coloured stripes across the flame structure, just as the gradient appears on its tab. That would in itself be boring. Except we can blend the 2 colouring modes and so obtain effects never previously possible with flames. S

Meet the Fractal community #2Hey guyzMeet the Fractal community #22 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Welcome to the second edition of Meet the Fractal community !
In few words, Meet the Fractal Community is a bi-monthly interview with an artist of our beloved fractal community.
This week let's have a closer look to piethein21 !
Hey piethein21! how are you today ? Not too stressed about this interview ?
Hey I'm fine today. I'm not stressed at all. It takes a lot to stress me out. Sometimes it would be helpfull to be stressed out. Sometimes on exams I worry not enough and don't pay attention to the test enough. I'm jabbering already I hope it would not be too much for you to read all my nonsense.
First of all, please introduce yourself to the community.
Ok. I'm piethein21 I study in Delft and I'm living in Delft too (only 2 weeks now). I study applied mathematics and hoping to finish my master in 2,5 years from now. As a hobby I cycle (but only in the summer when its not too cold outsid
That moment when you've got a new favoritepiece of media. So, I just played through To the Moon. And it became my favorite. Not just my favorite video game, but my favorite piece of media in general. To the Moon is somewhere between an adventure game and a visual novel, and if more adventure games were like this I'd like the genre a whole lot better. What do I mean by that? Focus on progressing the story rather than coming up with convoluted puzzles. Although it still has a clunky control scheme (you have to point-and-click, or use the the arrow keys which is awkward in 2014). But that is To the Moon's only flaw. It wants to tell an outstanding story and it does it amazingly well. The main plot follows two scientists, Neil and Eva. They work at a corporation that uses Inception-like technology to give dying people their last wish, sort of. They implant false memories so they can die happy. Today's client is a man named Johnny Wyles. Like the title suggests, he wants to go to the moon. TheThat moment when you've got a new favorite4 months ago in Personal More Like This

The Fractal Universe:icontechgnotic:The Fractal Universe3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Is a photograph only a record, something created by a machine? Can photography ever truly be considered art? That question seems quaint and laughable these days, but if you do a little research you will find that once upon a time it was a raging debate. Thankfully a consensus has been reached that the agency of the photographer – his or her eye and critical mind – choosing the subject and manipulating the machine (the camera that is the art instrument) is what establishes photographs as potential works of art when created by an artist-photographer. Pretty basic common sense, huh? So why then is there now a debate as to whether FRACTAL ART is truly art – or just something produced by poking patterns into a computer? Isn't it just really random e-graffiti, a fibonacci button mash?
Here we go again… Hopefully it won’t take nearly a century again before fractal art is recog
#89: Frequently Asked QuestionsOk guys, I think it's time to do a little FAQ, because I read the same questions over and over.#89: Frequently Asked Questions2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Let me see if it's useful for somebody.
OMG, what is this?
It's a fractal, baby!
What is a fractal?
It's a really difficult question to answer, but I'll try to keep it as simple as I can. So, fellow fractalists, if you're reading, I won't be that precise in answering.
Wikipedia says: "A fractal is a mathematical set that has a fractal dimension that usually exceeds its topological dimension and may fall between the integers."
Wait, what? I didn't even understand myself.
Ok, a fractal is basically the repetition of a same "image". This image can be repeated with its original dimension or fractal dimension (it can be resized).
For example, let's pick the Romanesco Broccoli (the image is from Wikipedia):
As you can see, it's a repetition of the same "peaks" over and over, each of them with diffe
Don't watch meThis journal isn't going to make a lot of sense, considering only the people who DO care are going to read this. Anyway.Don't watch me1 year ago in Personal More Like This
There are way too many people who only watch others to get a watch back. I don't understand why. The amount of watchers shouldn't matter, but rather if people actually enojy your art. If they're only watching you because you watched them then... what have you achieved? Sure, you get a higher number right up there in your watch-count, but for what purpose?
It doesn't mean anything.
This is why I'm not involved with DA hub. Yes, I use DA hub, but I wouldn't donate to get featured. I do like many other people do. I watch, fave and give llamas to get points. I don't even add the watch to any list just like so many others, so I'm never going to see their art. Still they come to may page and "watch me, because I watched them". I hate that >.<'
Another thing is people who ASK others to watch them. I
