Art and MortalityFor months now I've been having minor to major panic attacks about the hard fact of life: death. My own end. Losing touch with the world. The unknown. It was horribly depressing because it was constant (at least 2 or 3 times a day), like some heavy shadow riding my shoulders and making it difficult to enjoy living. I couldn't shake it and I thought I'd be cursed to live out the rest of my life like this. .. filled with dread.Art and Mortality4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Strangely enough, the other day I was driving by this building that used to be a print store. When I was 13 and 14, I used to walk by it all the time with my then friend, Jen. I used to dream of one day having art prints and photo prints worthy of hanging. I wanted to be a real artist. I always wanted to go in and find out prices and what sort of things they did, but I never had the courage.
The store closed years ago, and now it's some commercial crap... but it made me remember.
And in remembering, and then realizing that my apartment is chock full of my own artw

While I was out walking I heard someone scream, it was a woman (She looked late 50's/60's) that had collapsed outside her house, she'd lost complete feeling in her legs and was on the verge of crying.
I helped her sit up against the wall and talked it through with her, I tried to help her stand up but her legs simply wouldn't move.
Plus she needed support of the other side, I'm not very strong at all.
Another woman who was walking her dog spotted us and we both tried together to help her stand up, but again, her legs just weren't working.
The dog walker left us for about 15 minutes to go back to her house to get her dog back in there, I stayed with the woman who had collapsed to keep her company since she was clearly still upset and ashamed of herself for needing help. Which I told her was nonsense and that it's nothing to be ashamed about.
I did suggest that I go back home and get help, but sh

VISIONS (FEATURE)I can't believe how long it took me to get around to coding this~!VISIONS (FEATURE)9 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Below are a few fantastic pieces of art I've comes across this past couple weeks, there's no one theme I was clinging to when I put this together. I wanted to organize these in a way that was, in itself, visually appealing -- I tried to maintain a balance between warm and cool tones, traditional mediums and photography, subject matter (eyes!), etc. I find these works to be exceptional and INCREDIBLY inspiring; the artists themselves are a friendly and intriguing group of people, some having been members of this community for years ... others just joining this month~! This feature showcases a diverse and colorful collection of great minds and their creations; I hope you find more than a few images that fascinate and inspire you.

BelatedA few weeks ago I write a poem on behalf of my Dad, who has advanced dementia. The poem was intended to use in his Valentines card to my Mum. My Dad's always been a bit soppy like that!Belated10 months ago in Personal More Like This
Anyway. As ~Zevais suggested, I wanted Dad to write the last line of the poem, "I love you". Sadly, he seemed a bit misled by my instruction and wrote "I love Dad", instead. But he tried! I was lucky to have caught him on a relatively coherent day. So here it is, complete:

Still working on a feature.
I have 5 days off these next couple days and intend on using at least one to catch up on some paintings. I HAVE STARTED A NEW IMAGE...and it has subject matter....it tells a story....since when do I ever do this?! I've broken another barrier in my mind, it seems. I'm ridiculously enthused -- there's nothing geometric in this new piece, which should make it easier to relate to, I have to sayyy~
And because I don't know where else to put this....
I'm just touched and constantly surprised by the kindness of all the people in my life -- both here in the mental playground and in the daily livin' I do. Life's never been so intriguing to me.
Here's hoping some of my luck rubs off on everyone here, lol You all bring me joy and I want nothing more than to thank you all for being stupendous.
-end of another overly-sentimental rampage-
Old school art~Here's a really brief snapshot of what the more illusive Moira/Mivala worked on back in the day -- unseen works and whatnot. I never bother to share because it's on line paper and pretty old but...still interesting to see.Old school art~11 months ago in Personal More Like This
Technically all of these were done in middle school (can you believe it?!), with the exception of the last two (the first of those is a product of an art block that lasted my Junior/Senior year of high school, the second, of course, is a lot more recent). These are also examples of my pre-Dali era...I'd never even heard of surrealism until I started to realize a much greater appreciation for art (~junior year). I'd obviously never heard of horizon lines or perspective...I had no real influences except for a few friends who were really into anime. My handwriting was pretty atrocious but it's much better these days; so much better that I'm just glad I blindly kept with it over the years.
Essentially, I'm sharing this because I

TF: Prime Best Derp Awards Part 1 (Annual Two!)A year ago, I did a Transformers Prime Best and Worst Derp Award that served more or less as a recap of how I felt towards the overall show at the time. Well, now that Season Two has ended, it's time yet again to praise the good points of the series and the bad in one neat little package. This is especially handy for people who don't want to waste time reading every single episode review I did and merely want one article that explains the central points of Season Two that I either loved or hated.TF: Prime Best Derp Awards Part 1 (Annual Two!)1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Before we begin, let's get this one out of the way: I won't be including Rescue Bots in the list. The reason why is because I really don't have much to say about this show as I would Prime. It's a simpler series that doesn't reach the level of plot twists and ambitious Prime reaches for. This isn't a complaint; Rescue Bots ended up way better than
Computer Crashes and BackupsHey, how has everyone been?Computer Crashes and Backups4 months ago in Personal More Like This
My computer had a major meltdown (literally) and therefore the untimely death of my 18 month old iMac. My warranty/Apple care ran out in February, unfortunately. I will be ordering a different computer to be built, but it will be two to three weeks before I have it in my office.
I am 99% certain all my photos were backed up on my external hard drive. This experience really nails home just how important back ups are!
What is your backup method?
Mine is an external hard drive that backs up 24/7 (or whenever my computer is on) and then once a week, I pull another hard drive out of my desk and do a complete backup in case there is something wrong/something happens to the main backup. I'd be curious to hear about everyone else's methods. Does anyone use a digital archiver?
Let me know!

A chat on the phone today with ~Catmagik brought back a lot of good memories. Mainly deviantART memories which we both had a good laugh about, but I miss those times.
I miss the days of #DreamFreeNature, the first group I started. ~Catmagik and I were always making little "plans" or "plots" to try and expose our group and get more members. It was really fun, we would text and chat on the phone to try and come up with these. One such plan was to every day invite ten members each, leaving them a nice compliment, and afterwards watch our member numbers grow. I miss the days of #InYourMindsEye, a group run by ~OpticalIlluzens (someone I really looked up to back then), which I put a lot of myself into. I remember the days before that, when ~Catmagik didn't have her dA account yet. It was just me, by myself, on dA. I didn't know anyone here, I didn't know how the place worked. Essentially, I was a nobody, lost amongst the millions of professional arti

... and sure why not, .... Slave Leia !
Cosplay wasn't really an area of interest of mine but I figured it wouldn't hurt to give it try it. Now while I refuse to shoot anything that looks low budget, silly props or comes straight out of a costume shop, the folks at Leia's Metal Bikini http://www.leiasmetalbikini.com/buy.html appears to be the only decent source to grab an exact replica of the metal bikini : The only gripe for us here it costs $390. It comes with a ton of items : ( Bra Frame + Adjustable Belt consisting of front and back plates & side hoops + Slave Collar w/ hinged opening + 4 Link Chain + Hair Bun Holders (pair) w/ hair clips attached + Hair Braid Tooth w/ elastic tie + Armband +Bracelet+ Boot Tops ) ... etc
Now, while we both don't exactly have the funds to shoulder that kind of coin - perhaps with the help of the folks who actually want to see this happen can voice out ... and make it happen. I

As some of you already know, I am now part of the DA Community Volunteers, for the conceptual photography gallery!
I am really happy to start this journey and would like to invite you all to a virtual champagne glass to celebrate this event.
I am also writing this journal to apologize in advance for being slow in answering your notes. I am still new and learning the procedures so I will probably take some time to assign DDs and such...
All the best to all of you
