THE NEXT THREE YEARS OF MY LIFE
I had received a job offer at Microsoft. I guess this could have been one of my first 'big time' jobs, so I was a little ecstatic. It felt like a slow build to get to this point, after numerous indie games and under the table freelance jobs, but finally it had come.
I was working with my now best friend and business partner, Stephan, a suave German who I had met only a year or so prior. He had brought me into the fray, working with several other individuals who will, well, simply be known as individuals for privacy sake.
But yes, finally, I could put a professional company I
Watcher's Feature 2 - the return of the pimp #3First I just wana say thanks so much to :iconartofashes: for the sub and dA's new journal-writing beta which makes featuring thumbnails so much, SO MUCH, easier and faster for me. Please take a look, there are some awesome peeps here
note: Faving this journal might help with your exposure but it's solely up to your fellow deviants ~
It takes me a while to put these together and it's a bit of a tedious process, so if you commented on my other journal to be featured, please take a look at everyone else's work too. After all, it's only fair that way and if you don't, it's just a little selfish and your conscience will bug you . So yah, share the love, guys!
These are ordered first come first serve style; I will be showing around 50 pieces at one time (I still have a lot to go through and it adds up every time i put up a feature journal), and be featuring once a week or bi-weekly as to not clog up your message boxes. It'll p

Character Design: An introductionCharacter Design: An introduction3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Arvalis-2012 by arvalis
What does 'Character Design' mean?
The character design is the process which comes after the characterisation and consists in defining the character through his/her physical appearance.
We need to consider a character as a little fictional creature, human or not, that aims to please its creator and the public as well.
While the basic characterization of this fictional creature (his tastes, his fears, his behaviors) may take a little mental effort, as it is a sort of list of emotions, facts and feelings that come and go in the life of a character, the process of visual realization of this creature may not be as simple. That's why many writers and characters creators prefer to rely on experienced hands.
Also many of the mental aspects of the character are not possible to gain by using 'static' visual medium. For 'static' I mean all the illustrations and drawings unable to tell a
February Speed-paint Landscape Challenge!February Speed-paint Landscape Challenge!4 years ago in Personal More Like This
EDIT: CHALLENGE STARTS TODAY!
Post finished works in the comments and it will be posted in this journal
With the success of the December challenge and being able to see the progress of the artists who contributed, it was definitely an incredible experience. So again I will be going to be doing another challenge, this time with the help of other artists. This months theme is Landscapes!
This is an area i am weak in and i would love to do this challenge with others who are looking to improve this part of their craft as well.
The way it works is there will be a photo designated for every other day. There is a two hour time limit with each piece, and my advice would be to use all of this time wisely. There will be two critiquing sessions one around the 15th, and the other at the end of the month so using all the time allotted would be to your benefit.
Only rule: NO TRACING!!!! We will tear you a new one in the critique so DONT DO IT!! We

All About ThumbsWhat are thumbs? All About Thumbs5 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
"Thumb" is short for "thumbnail" which is basically a miniature version of a deviation (merely a nickname used to describe a particular piece of art that has been submitted to deviantART1) and on deviantART, a thumb is clickable and leads to the original piece of art. Thumbs can be used in various places throughout deviantART such as features and forums.
A thumb and its code
This is a thumb:
Go ahead, try it out and click on it. :D
To display a thumb, you're going to need a thumb code. A thumb code looks like this:
And they can be found on the right side of a deviation:
To display a thumb, simply copy and paste the deviation's thumb code where you'd like the thumb to be displayed.

How to become a better artist (Kind of tutorial)Hello there, my friends!:3How to become a better artist (Kind of tutorial)3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I wanted to write this, because I felt like doing it. A lot of people seem to see me as their idol (after what they
told to me) and asked me how I became this 'good'. (I don't consider myself as good though.xD)
A lot of people say I got a lot of talent, but it isn't the talent what makes someone good in drawing or good
in singing. The talent is only a little percent, but the most important part in becoming better is practice.
Everybody can be good, if they draw, write or sing a lot. Hell, even I could be good at maths if I only would
This isn't going to be a tutorial how you sing better, how you can draw better or what makes your art looks better.
So what could this be about? Even if I'm still practicing I already noticed how you can become a better artist.
So I will share my thoughts with you.
Art is about feelings. A lot of people put their feelings in their art, and this gives the art it's soul.
Of course, if you draw something, it will a look
#89: Frequently Asked QuestionsOk guys, I think it's time to do a little FAQ, because I read the same questions over and over.#89: Frequently Asked Questions4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Let me see if it's useful for somebody.
OMG, what is this?
It's a fractal, baby!
What is a fractal?
It's a really difficult question to answer, but I'll try to keep it as simple as I can. So, fellow fractalists, if you're reading, I won't be that precise in answering.
Wikipedia says: "A fractal is a mathematical set that has a fractal dimension that usually exceeds its topological dimension and may fall between the integers."
Wait, what? I didn't even understand myself.
Ok, a fractal is basically the repetition of a same "image". This image can be repeated with its original dimension or fractal dimension (it can be resized).
For example, let's pick the Romanesco Broccoli (the image is from Wikipedia):
As you can see, it's a repetition of the same "peaks" over and over, each of them with diffe

this is my final say in the argument against natural born talent vs skill. we all start out by drawing scribbles that slightly resemble things. i was about 3 yrs old here., and had probably already been drawing for some time since i was brought up in a family of artists. drawing only gives back with the time we give to it, and it takes a lot of patience, more needed in the beginning, and a lot of determination to keep at it even though we are continually frustrated.
hope this inspires some of you to keep going, or some of you to start, it will be even better if more of you, my dA friends, stop making excuses saying you werent born with the ability to make your dreams come true. the only thing holding you back is yourself. drawing is but a skill which we learn through lots of practice, determination, observation and patience. if you also have the undenied passion for it, you may see yourself getting further than others.
it also helps if you're able to be ho

STREET PHOTOGRAPHY TUTORIAL - PART TWO
COMBINATION OF HUMANs+SURROUNDINGS
Photographing together human presence and surroundings, combining them in something interesting and unusual, we obtain the classic structure of a street photography.
But mind you, it is not enough taking a photo with people and surroundings to have a good street photo! Remember that we have to strike, surprise, trigger an emotional response.
And that we can do CONNECTING people and surroundings.

Manga/Anime Tutorial Hub: Drawing AnimeSo what's this all about? A while back I decided that it would be best to create a place where tutorials that are vital to Manga/Anime artists to have a home, an easy place to reach if they felt that they ever needed it. One by one articles featuring tutorials based off of specific trades and mediums will be posted, and in the end a master article that'll unite them all together. The hope is to have as much as possible in one easy to reach place. This time around its Drawing Anime's turn.Manga/Anime Tutorial Hub: Drawing Anime4 years ago in Personal More Like This

History of Wedding PhotographyThe 1840s was the beginning of wedding photography. There was little commercial photography at the time for the wedding day itself. Instead, it was all about creating memories of the wedding day. As the photographic equipment was limited (i.e bulky and heavy), wedding photography remained in the studio for more than a century. In the 1800s, the only kind of wedding photography there was was a daguerreotype portrait on a tiny copper sheet.History of Wedding Photography3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
With limited resources, photographers used glass plates, tin sheets, and copper sheets for their photographs. One of the very first couples were Queen Victoria and Prince Albert in 1840. Couples who were poorer did not hire a photographer to record the actual wedding, or to capture them in pose for formal wedding photos. Instead, photographers captured them before or after their wedding, out of formal wedding dress and into their best formal dress. These were always taken in a controlled environment, like a studio, and the photographer would position

Razer Nostromo for Digital PaintingHey guys, I just wanted to share something that has GREATLY improved my digital painting setup.Razer Nostromo for Digital Painting3 years ago in Personal More Like This
For several months now I have been using the Razer Nostromo, a keypad designed for games, specifically for digital painting. It lets me compact all my most-used hotkeys into an ergonomic gadget.
I would consider this a must-have tool for the serious digital painter. I can hardly work without it now.
It was about $50 on Amazon a while back. Apparently there is also a new model out, but it is much more pricey. I would probably stick with this one.
Note: this may not work for you if you are left-handed
