It was peaceful. Not for the first time, of course. She had often stood up here in the silence of the predawn or was it past dusk? Or midday? In the realm where time's arrow existed in all places all at once, her mind simply could not comprehend it all. Trying to mark the passage of time was like trying to catch a shadow in a bottle. But it was peaceful, dark, as it always was, and upon the shore of the crystal-laden beach the breakers pounded as they always did. No one wandered in the streets. From time to time she spotted shadows darting, but nothing else. Even the destroyed promenade overlooking the sea had been rebuilt. But by the hands of what?
There were no stars but there were. Sometimes they winked at her, and she stared at them. At the same time, there were none.
So, it was past dusk. But it was also midday.
Ducking her head, she shook it, a wellspring of hopeless bitterness welling up inside. A person could go insane tryin
The SimurghThe Simurgh2 years ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
The Simurgh (Titanochiroptera trigintavis) is a large megachiropteran bat indigenous to the temperate mountain forests of the Mid-East. Weighing up to 150 lb with a wingspan of 33–36 feet, it is the largest bat in the world.
The Simurgh is mainly covered in copper-coloured fur, with white fur on the face and underbelly. The wings and ears are black and leathery. The forward facing eyes are bright green, and give the animal a sense of human-like intelligence.
Male Simurghs are slightly smaller than females, and their wings are decorated with light grey eye-spots, which are used to attract mates.
Simurghs are generally peaceful, solitary creatures, but when provoked, can inflict serious damage with their thumb claws. Because of their large size, adult Simurghs spend most of their time on the ground, though juveniles will roost in trees like other fruit bats.
Simurghs are browsers, and us

The room wavered as the lights danced on the walls. The music beat against The blonde's ears as he made his way deeper into the sea of people. The people felt like they were closing in, swallowing him in their rhythmic dancing and pulsing auras.
It was a different experience for Arthur, being in the thick of the crowd. When Alfred or Francis even managed to get him into a place like this he usually stuck to the outskirts of the dance floor, he preferred his space out there. Often times he kept to the shadows, standing along the walls. There it was secluded, and quiet (despite the raring music) and he could actually think there. Besides, most of the tables stood alone, away from the crowd, making for an easy escape when he got bored. Tonight, however, was different. He had caught a glimpse of something. He had seen something that he hadn't expected to ever see there, something that had become the
Mono. One morning a black pillar appeared in the center of town, within the boundaries of the park and right outside of the library. It stood at least thirteen feet tall and was as wide as a mature oak. They deduced it was made out of some kind of polished stone. Some guessed it was obsidian; others argued it was too strong to be such a fragile stone. It could have been granite, but when was the last time you saw black granite in that quantity, and in that shape?Mono.3 years ago in Short Stories More Like This

But they were too afraid to touch it.
"Why not just leave it here?" another suggested.
But they wondered what would happen if they didn't do anything at all.
Whoever put it there didn't do it alone. They'd need a truck to transport the thing, and they'd need some way to get it off the flatbed and stand it up straight. But why go to all of that trouble for a pillar of rock? Or was it part of someth

Someday I'd Like to Be A Pirate:
Someday I'd like t' be a pirate and sail across the seven seas.
I always thought it might be nice t' feel the ocean breeze.
I've always dreamt of findin' treasure, stashed away in a hidden box,
And then after I drop the anchor I'd burst open the locks!
Dubloons I'd find and diamonds t' keep, trinkets worth a life;
Or maybe I'd find a sacred sword or a really ancient knife!
But as I grew, I was soon t' learn, that dreams do not come true.
How many times have I seen a man be strangled till he's blue?
How many days have I watched them stumble, cursin' ill their fate.
When none would reach a helping hand, their heart would fill with hate.
I grew t' question th' ways of Kings who whipped the backs o' men,
More labour earned with blood and sweat while the preachers say 'Amen!'
Donations are given t' temples rich, while the poor are in the street;
So many souls are quickly trampled beneath their ugly feet....
Where first I believe the world was fair, no

You and Alfred were close. He made you feel happy even in the worst of times. His smile was contagious and fun seemed to follow him everywhere.
You were in love with his country, and would frequently visit at particular parts of the year, running around with a camera and taking silly photos. Each one held important memories that you fondly looked back on.
Often during winter he would invite you to stay in the north with him. You would bundle up for the cold weather, packing on your snow boots and heavy coats. You would snuggle up together by the fire, sipping your hot coco slowly, trying not to burn your tongue. He would throw snowballs at you, which frequently ended with you being the victor of the fight. Together you built impressive snowmen and forts, which somehow always ended up always being crushed.
In the summer you would visit the south where it was particularly hot, peeling off your winter clothes and slipping into bathing suits and tank tops. Th

blow out the candle you left burning at the window,
close the door, i'm not coming home tonight.

a melancholy lullaby,
sing them down
the way you used to.
angel, don't look for me tonight,
i'm on the wrong side of a one-way door.
you know i love you, but i'm a whore,
i didn't mean to let this go so far.
wipe the tears from your silver eyes,
i know you are but what am i,
sing the stars in your fading sky
a brokenhearted lullaby,
sing them down
the way you used to.

I don’t believe we’ve met,
But may I have your attention please?
I’d like to inform you
That I’m about to bombard you
With useless pieces of information
Regarding my day
What I had for breakfast!
That I brushed my teeth
That I had a shit
What I watched on TV
And so on and so forth
I can see how interested you are
So here’s a picture of my lunch!
And my breakfast
And my dinner
And my ‘cheeky McDonalds’
Look at me! I’m a celebrity
Of the world wide web
It’ll be written on my epitaph
How I changed the world
And inspired people
With my shitty retyped tumblr posts
The 54 images of my dog
What was that sir? You don’t care?
Let me inform you that
I scored 100 points on Farmville!
I feel everyone should know!
It should be headline news!
Can’t you see?
I’m the face of the human race!
Isn’t that just great?

I was doing fine all on my own.
You ask me all about my day,
But I don't know what I'm to say.
I try turning my body around.
I face my head towards the ground,
But the conversation goes on still.
I wonder if I can fake being ill.
And as I knew all along,
My words start to come out wrong.
I feel my mind begin to trip,
And out my lips the words slip.
I wonder if my face is sinking.
I wish I knew what you were thinking.
I replay the scene over in my head.
All day I hear what I have said.
Why couldn't you just let me be?
I told you not to talk to me.

Let no man speak of wars whence
No answer graced our call,
Let man remember gods thence
Gods, watchful of our fall;
Speak in silenced sighs, men,
Dead men hither sleep,
No flag here flails, amen, amen!
Who can ever beweep
Our brethren in the deep.
Frightened colours breached the sky,
The church bells played a dirge;
The bustling hills and vales so nigh
In crimson rage did merge,
Archers with crescents held high
Keen arrows fell like sin,
The portcullis in sorrow, shy
Interred our fathers in
The last grave of our kin.
Wailed the night in thunder blare;
The mangonels did come,
Lonely trumpets singed the air
When Earth ravished our home;
The eastern tower, wasting wear
For a trebuchet did bow,
Fallen stone and ballista bare
Broke its stony vow,
As the beadle mopped his brow.
Mildly armoured, men at arms
Stormed the brazen fray,
Howled the castle’s cold alarms:
Ladder men up the brae!
Blazed in ire the fields and farms:
The winter’s yield was spent;

To scrape my calloused skin, strain my aching tendons-

Carry away my memories on a salty breeze
And dash them against the breakers,
I am going somewhere I have never been…
I am going Home.

As Percy approached, the teller gave him a big, white smile and batted her eyelashes. Annabeth hated her already.
"We need to check in our luggage," Annabeth said bluntly and tossed their suitcases onto the scale.
"Oh, no problem! Can I see your check-in conformation?" Her dark brown eyes stared intently at Percy and she gave him another charming

You will remain in the shroud of people
whose names won't be remembered when we look back on those dusty photos.
There you will stand, slightly to the left,
in that line of winners (and nonwinners),
smilling through the mask of pain you feel-
they can't see your heart breaking,
the tears threating to well up,
or your cheek muscles twitching.
You are told then how wonderful you were,
that many favored you to win
but fate is cruel, once more,
and you are just that,
one of the many favored to win.
Yet year after year you come back,

over and over across your heart,

The two camps spoke around her but the sound was lost behind the deafening roar in her head. She stared at his face, that beautiful face that had haunted her for so long, beaming with happiness while he bounced up and down in the grass. She found her hands parting Piper and Leo aside like a curtain in an almost dream like haze as her feet carried her forward on slow, hesitant steps. Impossible. She must be dreaming, any moment about to awake to cold reality.
Her pace picked up and his smile continued to grow as she finally shoved past Jason to stumble to the front line, gasps and glares erupting almost instantly among the Romans

Annabeth's eyes were the color of clouds before a rain storm, big and wide, heavy and pressing. Percy swallowed. Behind her long dark lashes, her gaze seemed to penetrate straight into his soul. The ground glitters in the light,
