CONTEST: Warriors! - EXTENSION!The ContestCONTEST: Warriors! - EXTENSION!6 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Badass, butt-kicking, name-taking, blood-spitting, not-down-backing MALE AND FEMALE warriors and fighters.
Dynamic action poses are preferred, but I will accept more mellow images as long as the WARRIOR aspect is portrayed accurately and interestingly.
There are four subcategories, by popular demand each comes with a selection of 7 fitting stock photos to choose from
BUT you are allowed to pick your own reference from my whole gallery.
The "Warriors" folder is newly organized by type of weapon used to help navigation.
Please scroll down to see the categories, example stock photos, contest entries + the full set of rules as well as prizes available.
1. Masters of the Blade
Warriors that use conventional weapons such as swords, axes, knives, daggers, etc - spears and staves are also allowed. This is the "every other weapon" category (it just didn't sound quite as cool with "masters of every other weapon")

While a majority of the broad deviantART community doesn't even know that dAmn (deviantART Message Network) even exists, there are thousands of deviants that call dAmn their online home. It seems that most of these dAmn-lurking deviants not only visit dAmn regularly, but they also have founded their own individual chat rooms for others to enjoy with them. If you're one of those deviants, or you're interested in founding your own successful chat room on dAmn, this educative article is for you!
Here's a checklist of the general topics that I'll be covering in this article:
Knowledge & Resources
Rules & Moderation
Each of the above topics is important to consider when owning and operating your own chat on dAmn. Remember that being the founder of a chat room gives you the ultimate responsibility and authority for that chat room; it's best to us
Fear of Blank Canvas.I've been painting since I was quite young.Fear of Blank Canvas.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
But still, I am overwhelmed and intimidated once I am facing the vast 'whiteness' of a blank canvas.
Like Goliath to little David, the empty space challenges me and I recoil.
I think being a good painter is nothing other than to overcome this fear of blank canvas.
Just like Van Gogh said,
a good painter never fears the canvas;
The canvas fears him.
CritStop 03 - Art school vs self teaching?Greetings Concepteez!CritStop 03 - Art school vs self teaching?4 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Apologies for missing out on the CritStop last week. I was at a weekend long concept-design workshop which didn't leave me with much time to do a post.
I might run down some of the things we did in the workshop in a future post, but this week I thought I would do something a little bit different. I have been getting quite a few queries over the last few weeks about making the choice between formal training courses such as university or college over that of self-teaching and using online resources and short courses. One of these was Nyte-Tyme who wrote:
"I mentioned before that I am currently attending a school called ------- University. So far, my first semester of a Junior year here has been bad. Art history classes (which I think are somewhat necessary) a Physics of Light and Color class. A web design class and a video and audio class which was essentially a film class after awhile. But I've been recently looking into C
MPG Project 2013! Last recipient chosenHi there, i'm Alex-Blaszczynski and i am writing this journal to inform all of you guys of a project which i will be starting in 2013.MPG Project 2013! Last recipient chosen2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
What is the MPG Project?
The MPG project stands for "Monthly premium give-away project".
On the 15th of every month in 2013 i will be giving away a 3 month premium membership to one lucky deviant here on deviantArt.
I will only be choosing people who have registered to be part of the MPG project
Premium memberships that i give away as part of the MPG project do not count towards my 2013 prize budget so do not worry i will still be hosting competitions & other give-aways throughout the year.
How can i participate/register?
It's extremely easy, all you have to do is leave a comment and this journal.
Please remember to this journal as this it will add you to a list which i will be picking from.
What's the catch?
There is none -.-"
Y U NO ACCEPT MY KINDNESS!!!???
The only thing i ask
How I Broke into Concept ArtSorry I've been away, everyone. Things are getting progressively busier and busier, but it's all good because I'm happily employed at Riot Games as an associate concept artist! I'm living with my friend in fumy downtown Los Angeles trying to find a place to live in sunny Santa Monica, where my beloved studio is.How I Broke into Concept Art3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Consider this a rough step-by-step tutorial of how to break into the industry based on my experience, the mistakes I made and the things I learned along the way - while they are fresh in my mind. Anyone listening to my story should know that since it already happened, by repeating the same process you won't be able to get the same results. You will need to work harder, because I just took your spot.
Now, the big dogs out there will have much more information about the industry, how it works and what they like to see. I'm simply attempting to sum up how I would approach it if I had 5 years to do it over.
Don't go to college. I make less in a year than my tuition was for

Please be careful WHAT you SELL for POINTS!Dear members,Please be careful WHAT you SELL for POINTS!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
as we all know this delicious new function has been enabled by DeviantART recently which allows you to sell content for points and keep the amazing amount of 80% of your share.
Overall this is a nice new function and we can't wait to see what you will do with it. We just want to warn you to be careful about one certain thing:
You should not sell high res files of your work for a small amount of points.
The few dimes people will spare by not having to pay shipping costs can do you badly.
There are a lot of companies, that take your dear work and print it on T- Shirts, books, posters and what not.
And in the past those companies at least had to put the efford into taking your art and retouching it. But shall you think about selling high res files for a small amount of points, greedy companies as that will have it even easier to take your art, distribute it big, and give you nothing of your share!
Companies from different countries, (especially countries

My Two cents on Portfolio ReviewsYou know, I see quite a bit of portfolio on a regular basis, and even more so when I go to comic con and CTN.My Two cents on Portfolio Reviews9 months ago in Personal More Like This
This time around was the same thing, I saw quite a few portfolios. Some good ones and some that miss the mark.
There were a few in particular that caught my eye.. a few extremely good ones, and a few that just didn't work, and I wanted to try and share my opinions about portfolios in general.
This is just my point of view, based on MY experience and definitely not a definitely law, rule, or "must do". Just what I noticed in many student's and young professional's portfolios.
The first thing that strikes me is how similar portfolios can be from one student to another..I can almost always tell when one student is from Art Center, San Jose State, Otis, Sheridan or any other major school. It's a good thing and a bad thing. Mainly a bad thing though
Just a few personal thoughts on portfolios since I just came back from comic con and saw a ton over there.
Your portfolio should be a r

Valentine's Day: NaruSaku Proof!I know there are tons of these, but alas, it's almost Valentine's Day, so here we go again. NaruSaku evidence! We will be canon, my friends, we WILL be!!Valentine's Day: NaruSaku Proof!2 months ago in Personal More Like This
I’m breaking my post down into many different subsections: Parallels, story structure/character roles, and downright evidence. This post will be void of character bashing, but it will bring up ‘evidence’ from other ships and show why it doesn't work.
MinaKushi and NaruSaku
The biggest parallel that people talk about is MinaKushi. This was sparked by the comment Kushina gave Naruto where she said something along the lines of, “Don’t choose a weird girl. Try to find someone like your mother.” So obviously, the NaruSaku fans were all, “OMG! Kushina’s a lot like Sakura!” and went crazy making memes and stuff comparing Kushina and Sakura. Comparing their tempers, their catch phrases (“Shannaro!” and “Dattebane!”)
