It's a tough business, learning how to do this art thing, and getting feedback specific to your work is essential but hard to come by especially if you are learning in a non-formal envi

When I first sold LMS to Paramount, a lot of people asked me: "How much money did you get?" "You're probably rich now, right?"
I mean, the solid gold mansion I bought was just a little gift to myself...but...
Ever since I was little, I've known I wanted to draw. From the day my parents put a pencil in my hand, this was my future. I just knew it, I had that gut feeling. So I stuck to it, and thankfully it took me to heights I'd have never imagined possible. Now with my new book Redemption heading off to studios soon for a hopeful movie package, I can't wait to see where this new road takes me.
That said, there's something else that tops all of this.
The other night I went out to visit my girlfriend's cousin and her family. Incredibly kind people with very sweet kids. Other than the two parents, there were 3 kids, but the one who caught my interest was the eight-year old boy, Diego.
Diego, shy, tiny, slender, reminded me of myself when I was his a

Looks like I have let my notes accumulate into a mountain ...
The notes I get generally fall into several common questions, which I'll answer here, as I don't have the time to personally answer every one. I am sorry about this; if I had the time, I would.
1) Commissions : I'm sorry, but I'm still tied up with on-going projects and I can't take on any more.
2) Using my art for blog, sigs, tags, etc : As long as it's personal use, go ahead. It would be nice if you could credit me.
3) Software and hardware use : Adobe Photoshop CS5 and Wacom Intuos 4.
Anything else and I'll try to get back to you as soon as I can.
10 Tips For Working in the Entertainment IndustryI wrote this for a friend who wanted my insight on things , this is by no means set in stone , but I do strongly believe in these tips.10 Tips For Working in the Entertainment Industry3 years ago in Personal More Like This
If you want to be the best you have to be ok with sucking at it first.
1. THERE ARE NO SHORTCUTS . Whatever brush , trick , dvd , etc u think will make you tight will not make you tight. No matter what it is hard work will trump all. So you better make sure you love what you are doing because you will have to do it a lot in order to be good at it. Be a good artist first then network. Too many people focus on networking to get a job when they suck ass. There is no point if you can't do the job. You can network when you suck, but have to be able to display a strong drive to get better. Networking is important , but I am a firm believer that good shit rises to the top. Do Awesome stuff and most of these problems will be non existent.
Suck- is only a state of being , everyone sucks at one point , but if u give up then "yes" you do suck . But , i
You Must have faithArt is one of the best things that has ever happened to me. Also probably one of the worst. Everyday I am confronted with some kind of visual problem in designing and painting. Finding the solution is not always easy . There are days that I am taunted with the solution and it wakes me up in the middle of the night. Only to see it disappear in my hands. Art has the power to ruin my days , destroy self confidence , and test my faith. You Must have faith3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Being a creative designer is pretty much hell. Some people try to go into this industry but soon realize how tough it really is. Art can send you through a spinning tornado , and you will sometimes lose track of which way is up and which way is down. However , through the trials and tribulations of art I have learned patience , love , self confidence , and most importantly faith. For progress in one's art cannot be measured in numbers or graphs. One must have faith in themselves that if they work hard enough , they will improve , and that if they

Inside Access: Game Dev. Art Concept Art with :icongamefan85:
:icongamefan84: has been my most requested to do a Q/A/interview with since I started out as a CV and there's no surprise why. A very talented concept artist who is also community driven and passionate about his work.
He breathes a sense of "life" into his artwork. It doesn't matter what he's creating: , , and Environments, assets, characters: all with a unique spin, different from the last.
Concept Art has been one of the harder areas to break into in the game industry. Why is this people have asked? Well,
How I Broke into Concept ArtSorry I've been away, everyone. Things are getting progressively busier and busier, but it's all good because I'm happily employed at Riot Games as an associate concept artist! I'm living with my friend in fumy downtown Los Angeles trying to find a place to live in sunny Santa Monica, where my beloved studio is.How I Broke into Concept Art2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Consider this a rough step-by-step tutorial of how to break into the industry based on my experience, the mistakes I made and the things I learned along the way - while they are fresh in my mind. Anyone listening to my story should know that since it already happened, by repeating the same process you won't be able to get the same results. You will need to work harder, because I just took your spot.
Now, the big dogs out there will have much more information about the industry, how it works and what they like to see. I'm simply attempting to sum up how I would approach it if I had 5 years to do it over.
Don't go to college. I make less in a year than my tuition was for
Progress over the yearsA reminder to anyone who doesn't know, but it has now been approximately 5.5 years since I started my sketchbook on conceptart.org, which I am going to continue to update for the near future. It might be of interest to some of you guys, the thread goes all the way back to when I was 13 and had no real ability at all with drawing.Progress over the years1 year ago in Personal More Like This

Send me Sci-fi/Space Art DD SuggestionsHello everyone,Send me Sci-fi/Space Art DD Suggestions1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I have just recently received the opportunity to become the "Science Fiction and Space Art" Community Volunteer Gallery Moderator here on deviantART.
I am looking for "Science Fiction and Space Art" deviations to feature as Daily Deviations, and you can help.
If you know of any submissions that you think should gain more exposure and be Featured as a Daily Deviation,
and they are "Science Fiction and/or Space Art"related, send me a DD Suggestion via note.
I have info on my front page regarding how to suggest a DD if you have any questions.
Since this is the largest Fantasy and Science Fiction group here on deviantART, what better place to ask for input from the community than here? So get out there, check out the "Science Fiction and Space Art" Galleries and send me those Daily Deviations.
You just might help an artist gain more exposure and make someones day.
But don't suggest them here, go to my page and send me `alltheoriginalnames
Please be careful WHAT you SELL for POINTS!Dear members,Please be careful WHAT you SELL for POINTS!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
as we all know this delicious new function has been enabled by DeviantART recently which allows you to sell content for points and keep the amazing amount of 80% of your share.
Overall this is a nice new function and we can't wait to see what you will do with it. We just want to warn you to be careful about one certain thing:
You should not sell high res files of your work for a small amount of points.
The few dimes people will spare by not having to pay shipping costs can do you badly.
There are a lot of companies, that take your dear work and print it on T- Shirts, books, posters and what not.
And in the past those companies at least had to put the efford into taking your art and retouching it. But shall you think about selling high res files for a small amount of points, greedy companies as that will have it even easier to take your art, distribute it big, and give you nothing of your share!
Companies from different countries, (especially countries

Okay, so this isn't exactly a journal entry. But since I can't be bothered to figure out how to post inline images in the commentary section of regular image posts, you're getting this. Deal with it.
In my perpetual state of ultimate lazyness, this image has been bouncing around for a while, and I'm just now getting around to posting it. And I've had a fair number of questions. So, I think I'll take this opportunity to walk you through some of the happy accidents that fill the days of us artists. That's right, Bob Ross may be the only one who owns up to it, but we all have them.
To me, the most important thing in art is making decisions. In fact, you can break my art philosophy into a tidy little three step triad. Observations -> evaluations -> decisions. That's the important stuff. Everything else is just about
What is Vector Art?What Is Vector Art?What is Vector Art?10 years ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
Vector Art is a technique, not a style.
Perhaps a better term would be "vector-based art," meaning art created in a vector-based program. Vector art consists of creating paths and points in a program such as Illustrator or Freehand. The program keeps track of the relationships between these points and paths. Vectors are any scaleable objects that keeps their proportions and quality when sized up or down. They're defined as solid objects, and can be moved around in full, or grouped together with other objects. Vectors can be defined by mathematical and numeric data. So vector art is anything that's created in Illustrator, Freehand, Corel Draw, Flash or other "vector" illustration programs.
(Vector programs: Illustrator, Freehand, Corel Draw, Flash, etc.)
The other side of the coin is raster art. Raster art consists of pixel information, where every pixel is assigned a RGB or CMYK value. This can create smoother and more detailed images for photo
