While a majority of the broad deviantART community doesn't even know that dAmn (deviantART Message Network) even exists, there are thousands of deviants that call dAmn their online home. It seems that most of these dAmn-lurking deviants not only visit dAmn regularly, but they also have founded their own individual chat rooms for others to enjoy with them. If you're one of those deviants, or you're interested in founding your own successful chat room on dAmn, this educative article is for you!
Here's a checklist of the general topics that I'll be covering in this article:
Knowledge & Resources
Rules & Moderation
Each of the above topics is important to consider when owning and operating your own chat on dAmn. Remember that being the founder of a chat room gives you the ultimate responsibility and authority for that chat room; it's best to us

First a quick note to mention that Shimmering-Sword our very own guru of future military tech. has succeeded in getting funding for his kickstarter project: The Protectorate Wars!!!
A big congrats to Shimmy and a huge thank you to everyone who helped support him. If you aren't a supporter yet not to worry! There are stretch targets to hit too so go check it out.
The ConceptWorld team have always been clear that one of the main reasons we continue to dedicate our personal time to running this group is to inspire and help every single member develop their craft as artists. It's a tough business, learning how to do this art thing, and getting feedback specific to your work is essential but hard to come by especially if you are learning in a non-formal envi
CONTEST: Warriors! - EXTENSION!The ContestCONTEST: Warriors! - EXTENSION!1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Badass, butt-kicking, name-taking, blood-spitting, not-down-backing MALE AND FEMALE warriors and fighters.
Dynamic action poses are preferred, but I will accept more mellow images as long as the WARRIOR aspect is portrayed accurately and interestingly.
There are four subcategories, by popular demand each comes with a selection of 7 fitting stock photos to choose from
BUT you are allowed to pick your own reference from my whole gallery.
The "Warriors" folder is newly organized by type of weapon used to help navigation.
Please scroll down to see the categories, example stock photos, contest entries + the full set of rules as well as prizes available.
1. Masters of the Blade
Warriors that use conventional weapons such as swords, axes, knives, daggers, etc - spears and staves are also allowed. This is the "every other weapon" category (it just didn't sound quite as cool with "masters of every other weapon")

omgI was trying out Krita (a free drawing software) brushes, and had the biggest surprise to see this:omg10 months ago in Personal More Like This
At first I was like "woah, this looks so much like my brush texture (that I really like and often use), this brush will be very useful!....w w-wait a minute."
These are the brushes I made available in a free psd brush pack a long time ago:
The "sponge-brush" in Krita is the EXACT same texture I made, but mirrored xD
It's a texture from a pattern I also made and mixed with other brushes from this pack. Here is the pattern for anyone who would be interested:
I do not blame them for this, I just found this funny and a bit flattering. My textures were made free to use, and Krita is also a free software, so I honestly do not mind at all :b
I was not expecting my brush pack to have been so much popular and used, I looked it up and my pack is now available on many sit

When I first sold LMS to Paramount, a lot of people asked me: "How much money did you get?" "You're probably rich now, right?"
I mean, the solid gold mansion I bought was just a little gift to myself...but...
Ever since I was little, I've known I wanted to draw. From the day my parents put a pencil in my hand, this was my future. I just knew it, I had that gut feeling. So I stuck to it, and thankfully it took me to heights I'd have never imagined possible. Now with my new book Redemption heading off to studios soon for a hopeful movie package, I can't wait to see where this new road takes me.
That said, there's something else that tops all of this.
The other night I went out to visit my girlfriend's cousin and her family. Incredibly kind people with very sweet kids. Other than the two parents, there were 3 kids, but the one who caught my interest was the eight-year old boy, Diego.
Diego, shy, tiny, slender, reminded me of myself when I was his a

Writing An Artist's StatementCommunity WeekWriting An Artist's Statement9 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
An artist's statement is simply the artist's written description of their own work. It is a verbal representation of the work that the artist does and it is meant to help the viewer glean understanding of it. It aims to inform and connect the viewer with the art. Often gallery owners and teachers will ask for an artist's statement, and it's possible you'll even want to put one up on your website. In any case, you'll most likely need to write one.
Seems easy, right?
Not so much.
Writing an artist's statement can be quite tricky! It can be very difficult to put what you do and why down on paper without it sounding either convoluted or over simplified. In either case, the audience might have trouble understanding the statement.
Example: "The apotropaic quality of the conjoining lines are juxtaposed against the atramentous backdrop in a way such as to give definition to not only the achromatic benevolence of the lines themselves, but to the crepuscular middle ground, with
MPG Project 2013! Last recipient chosenHi there, i'm The-Average-Alex and i am writing this journal to inform all of you guys of a project which i will be starting in 2013.MPG Project 2013! Last recipient chosen2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
What is the MPG Project?
The MPG project stands for "Monthly premium give-away project".
On the 15th of every month in 2013 i will be giving away a 3 month premium membership to one lucky deviant here on deviantArt.
I will only be choosing people who have registered to be part of the MPG project
Premium memberships that i give away as part of the MPG project do not count towards my 2013 prize budget so do not worry i will still be hosting competitions & other give-aways throughout the year.
How can i participate/register?
It's extremely easy, all you have to do is leave a comment and this journal.
Please remember to this journal as this it will add you to a list which i will be picking from.
What's the catch?
There is none -.-"
Y U NO ACCEPT MY KINDNESS!!!???

First, I want to thank you all for your participation, it's just incredible. When I started this little contest, I was hoping to receive 20 or 30 entries ! with just this number it would have been amazing ~
But today we currently have 160 pictures, it's... well I'm just speechless. There's no word to thank you enough for your love and support, I'm so touched, you have no idea. Each new picture was so different than the previous one, it was amazing for me to live those 2 months !
You guys rocks !
Second for the jury, we were 2 at the beginning, me and my friend Charlotte (not on DA). But with all those submissions it's impossible to be only 2 to judge. So my friends :iconleel: :iconmarine-chan: and :iconylric-le-troll: are going to help me. 5 persons is great
The notation system will be about technique, idea/creativity and colors 'harmony. I've created a system of points and we will try to be as fair a
Something about dedication in drawing improvementUPDATED: 2013/11/02 Added 1 personal suggestion at the bottom...Something about dedication in drawing improvement1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Couple of days ago I came across a series of notes & quotes made my various Japanese artists on how to improve drawing. This was not really an article per say but more of cut & paste collection from different source, so the artists had very different background varying from manga-ka, animators & illustrators (including general illustration). While some of them did have specific approach in development, majority of them had 1 thing in common. Which is to weight the practice in quantity, in other word "draw as much as you can".
To me this was rather obvious cause I some what went through this practice earlier in my as I became so called "Artist". (Well that's what people call me and not what I personally feel...) Although the difference is that initially I didn't do it because I wanted to improvement but I just picked up pencil because I like drawing. But in any case their was couple of
How I Broke into Concept ArtSorry I've been away, everyone. Consider this a rough step-by-step tutorial of how to break into the industry based on my experience, the mistakes I made and the things I learned along the way - while they are fresh in my mind. Anyone listening to my story should know that since it already happened, by repeating the same process you won't be able to get the same results. You will need to work harder, because I just took your spot.
Now, the big dogs out there will have much more information about the industry, how it works and what they like to see. I'm simply attempting to sum up how I would approach it if I had 5 years to do it over.
Don't go to college. I make less in a year than my tuition was for

Do you do trades? Not anymore really!
CAN YOU DRAW ME SOMETHING?? No sorry! Time is money
commissions? check my journals or the link on my profile.
How long have I been pixeling?
-Since late 2011.
How do you achive such soft looking shading on your pixels? Do you stick only to the pencil/fill tools, or do you utilize brushes?
Or do you just use enough colors to make it blend nicely?
-OPACITY there I spilled the beans countless times now.. opacity with the pencil tool. It just helps me finish pixels faster and keeps me in touch with my painterly-side lol.
I DONT USE THE DAMN BRUSH TOOL. JUST LEARN TO USE THE PENCIL TOOL'S OPACITY SETTINGS. ITS AMAZING...
smooths everything out. but leaves it pixelated. If you use the brush tool. im pretty sure its gonna look blurry
What program do you use?
-photoshop cs3, I suggest you learn photoshop cuz I love it/plus its free lol
What inspires you to make pixel art/ how did you get into pixel art?
10 beneficial things artists should ask themselvesHere's 10 important questions to ask yourself. Read them constantly as a checklist to make sure your are heading in the right direction and using your artistic potential.10 beneficial things artists should ask themselves4 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
1. What motivates you to create art? Write down your answer and think about how you can use this very important information.
2. What kinds of information have you been putting on the internet? The internet is the new resume. If I can find dumb pics or comments from you then other people can too...
3. Does your art express something interesting? Great art means something to its viewers, not just its creator.
4. Does failure push you forward? How you deal with failure will determine how skillfull you will become.
5. Do you enjoy arguing or flaming people's work? If you are the type of person to hate on others, it will come back to you. Especially with the internet and all the social networking.
6. Do you try out new methods/materials/subjects that might be unconfortable at first? Success is inevitable if you always choo

Fear of Blank Canvas.I've been painting since I was quite young.Fear of Blank Canvas.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
But still, I am overwhelmed and intimidated once I am facing the vast 'whiteness' of a blank canvas.
Like Goliath to little David, the empty space challenges me and I recoil.
I think being a good painter is nothing other than to overcome this fear of blank canvas.
Just like Van Gogh said,
a good painter never fears the canvas;
The canvas fears him.
