I'M BACK!Or not.
Purging this account was more exhilarating than I expected. Mainly because it reminds me of how badly I played and broke the game known as deviantART. Really though.
Let's look at the interesting fact that I've been on the front page more times than I can count on my hands and toes and I've received 3 daily deviations as well as seniority. All for the price of being a major dick who picks just the opportune moments to pretend to have a heart [which I don't, by the way. Not for a crowd of posers looking to reap the benefits of being a follower].
Admittedly, you're all not like that--in fact a good many of you are great people trying to improve yourselves as artists. But then there are those morons who do nothing but follow. Followers who enjoy sitting there and vacantly hoping someone notices you. They won't. Unless you're amazing beyond comprehension--but most of you aren't. Sorry, it's true. I have had countless people noting me and asking me to advertise for them or they'll s
Racial Activism and MeHey hey hey! Rob here with another "something-to-get-off-of-his-chest"!Racial Activism and Me3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Time and again, I'm approached by some of my audience asking "Rob, why don't you ever draw black people?" First off, they may have not even looked into my gallery for those people of color or what have you, because they're there, sure enough.
The long answer is:
Well... what gets me is that when they find out I'm black, they expect that I should hold some sort of allegiance to "my race" or "make a change" as a "popular" black artist who can, figuratively speaking, "put blacks on the map".
There's nothing wrong with that, of course, and there's nothing wrong with people whose main goal is doing that. It's their lives, they're free to believe in whatever they want to.
But to hold me to a certain level where people think I'm obligated to draw my race more often than others because of the "history", I don't agree with. I'm an African-American born in the 80s. I was not born during the times of t

This special, which will air every weeknight at 9pm (until July 20th), will include reruns of all 12 episodes from the first season of The Legend of Korra in a "creators' cut" format, with commentary from Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, offering "insight into the creation of the stunning imagery, mythology and storyline" of the series. And we will be uploading videos from YouTube day by day for people who do not have Nicktoons.
With San Diego Comic Con just a few days away, there is going to be a bunch of New Avatar and Korra things going on at that time. For one, The legend of Korra

Do you know why Nickelodeon cancels shows show often or just stops airing them? Do you know why the ratings for all of their shows have been so abysmal lately?
No, it's not because their current shows are "horrible" (they're really not that bad, actually). The real problem can be broken up into two halves...
The first half of the problem is us.
At some point in the past few years, most people developed an anti-Nickelodeon mentality and stopped watching the network. This mostly due to the company's poor business decisions and their recent shows apparently not tickling most people's fancy. The business part I can't defend, but the shows from recent years have not been as bad as people say. There's truly a lot of effort put into each one, but because of past mistakes, people have become too stubborn to give them anymore chances. Because
Why I Draw Women OftenI recently got a message, and I will slightly reword it so as not to cause profane friction, nor will I state who it came from, but it read like this: "Why is everything you post regarding a woman? I think it's very sexist when the only thing you can draw are breasts and buttocks like it's the only thing in the world."Why I Draw Women Often2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Okay, so by now, if you haven't been watching me for a good minute, you know that I really like to draw women, and I like portraying the female form, usually and often in a tasteful manner. I could hypothetically end that question there and just answer "I wasn't aware everything in my gallery was a woman or had breasts and a butt" and then post a picture or two of Rai Rivet... But I'm not going to do that. I'm going to explain my stance on drawing the female form and my adoration for it.

Apparently so. The Legend of Korra: Original Music From Book One is listed on Amazon, with the release date and option to preorder.
Be still our beating fan hearts. It isn't an A:TLA soundtrack (which of course we still want) but it's a good first step.
From Bryan's tumblr:
Mike and I are excited, elated, proud, relieved, and a bunch of other emotions to *FINALLY* announce the release of a soundtrack of Jeremy Zuckerman’s score from Book 1 of The Legend of Korra. I can’t begin to summarize the 9-year struggle we have endured to get any sort of a soundtr
I can FINALLY tell you guys about DreamworksI've been waiting for 'THE CALL' before telling any information xDI can FINALLY tell you guys about Dreamworks3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Basically, my family in America know Jeffrey Katzenburg very well (For those who dont know him, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffrey_Katzenberg)
and they forwarded my work to Dreamworks, who were impressed and forwarded my work to the outreach program (which basically helps people with potential to be DW animators and offers school advice and stuff like that. (info on outreach programme: http://careers.dreamworksanimation.com/outreach.php
so I didn't tell you guys much until I got the phone call from the outreach program, which was a few mins ago.
So NOW I am supposedly meeting up with the person in charge of the London side of this program to discuss further.
and it all started with that Broken trailer ^^
I have been reluctant to say all this because I hate making myself seem all...important xD Because I'm not! But there you go my lovelies. thats the Dreamworks news.
FAQI should have done this a long time ago:FAQ3 years ago in Personal More Like This
What program do you use?
Adobe Photoshop CS5
Corel Painter 11
What kind of tablet do you use?
Wacom Intuos 4
Where did you learn to draw?
I was using cheat codes from the very start - both my parents are artists + my mum was organizing weekend drawing courses in our very house. You can pretty much say I spent my whole childhood in an art school.
When I was in high school I was attending course preparing for exams into the faculty of architecture. This is the course: www.labirynt.pl
During the first and second year at the university we had some drawing/painting/sculpting lessons but they kinda sucked. Besides they were worth only 1/10th of the ECTS points you could get from pretty much any other subject so nobody gave a shit.
Will you make any tutorials?
Probably not. I don't feel competent enough.
New Netflix's Series Should Be A New 'Avatar show'From Paul Tassi Verified:New Netflix's Series Should Be A New 'Avatar show'1 month ago in Personal More Like This
I’m a week or so behind the times, but I’ve finally caught up with the final season of Nickelodeon’s The Legend of Korra, including its absolutely sublime finale that fans will be talking about for years to come.
In it (spoilers), there are many fantastic moments, including Korra essentially forgiving the big-bad villain of the entire season, going out of her way to save her life instead of letting her be consumed by the superweapon she built.
But past that, the most talked-about portion was the final two minutes, where Korra and Asami, both ex-girlfriends of presumed romantic lead Mako, decide to take a vacation together into the Spirit World. The two walk hand into the portal of light and the final shot is them facing each other, practically nose to nose in a way that mirrors both the nuptial pose of two characters who got married minutes earlier in the episode, and the end of The Last Airbender which had Aang and Kitara kissing.

I'm only going off of my own personal experiences talking about these few things. (And I'm not specifically talking about ONLY dA here.) So take it with as many grains of salt as you can.
I've recently been asked questions like "How do I get people to see my work?", "Why am I not receiving commission inquiries?", "Why isn't anyone following my work?", "What can I do to get better?". Often, and I answered it before, the answer is as simple as this:
Create, as in, DRAW. PAINT. RENDER. SCULPT. You have to do develop a tolerance (or the obvious definition: LOVE) for creating if you want exposure and to get better. You have to LOVE the drawing or illustration that you HATE how it came out in the end. You have to ask yourself after every piece, what could I have done to do that differently. And you have to do this frequently.
Some folks come on the scene, post once or twice a week, and expect an audience to flock yo

the short version,
Korrasami is Confirmed!
from Michael Dantedimartino:
Now that Korra and Asami’s final moment is out in the world, it seems like an appropriate time to express how I feel about it. I didn’t want to say anything right away so the audience could experience the finale for themselves.
The main themes of the Avatar universe have always revolved around equality, justice, acceptance, tolerance, and balancing differing worldviews. In subtle and maybe not so subtle ways, Avatar and Legend of Korra have dealt with difficult subjects such as genocide, child abuse, deaths of loved ones, and post traumatic stress. I took it as a complement when Joanna Robinson of Vanity Fair called the show subversive. There were times even I was surprised we were able to delve into the really tough stuff on a children’s TV network. While the episode

And this IS watercolor painting. 100% watercolor. Kthnxbye.
I've been a lot in traditional art society, and just... I spotted this artwork. No, at the first it was a photograph for me. For really long time I wasn't interested to take a look deeper at that common photograph until I got bothered by loads of people to take a peek on it.
That really knocked me out from chair, is not the fact it's 100% painting but it's watercolor. I've seen 100% photo looking a like acrylics, oils and really mixed medium ways of paintings but... watercolor alone? And that's from simple watercolor "squares" palette.
I'm not really fan of photo-realistic paintings, I do love real life paintings with very artistic touch and with it's own original style... but for this one I have lots of "wow" for this artist to master watercolor on insane level of skill by using simple techni

The finale for “The Legend of Korra,” Book 2, “Spirits,” airs on Nickelodeon tonight at 8 p.m. (The closing episode is already online at Nick.com.) Speakeasy spoke to the creators of the animated fantasy series, Michael DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, about the show and what’s in store for Book 3 “Change.” We ran part one of our chat yesterday.
[Spoiler Alert! You should watch the finale, online or on TV, before reading this article.]
In our interview, Konietzko said that the inspiration for the name of the coming book, “Change,” had its roots in “Eastern philosophy.” Speakeasy searched through our copy of Stephen Mitchell‘s translation of Lao-tzu‘s “Tao Te Ching” on our iPad and came across a passage that may console “Korra” fans as they begin the wait for the next batch of episodes after tonight’s finale.
