Ole is definitely one of the most handsome wolves you can find in Germany. And one of the most loveable. Even though he's not hand-raised he displays a gentle curiosity about humans and he's the only wolf I know who reacts when you call his name. Whenever we called "Ole!" he at least turned around or even came over to look at us.

The end of march is comming closer, but it's still snowing every day ... this winter is reaaally weird. I suppose the wolves like it.

Akela and Akai (?) | 3 years and 9 month old | female and male | Timberwolf and Polarwolf | march 2013 | Wisentgehege Springe
Nikon D7000 | f 2.8 | 200mm | 1/750 sec. | ISO 100

The mating season in winter is a very interesting time if you observe wolves. Some seem to change their behaviour completely. I've never seen something like this before from Akela for example. She went on her own to one of the polar pups (I guess it's Akai), layed beside him and followed him, when he went away :D Normally, they did it vice versa. It also seems the atmosphere is much more relaxed in the pack. Maybe it was just the impression I got that day, so I like to check it again.

Fluffy | Timberwolf | Male | 6 years old | December 2012 | Zoo Hannover
Nikon D 7000 | f 4 | 200 mm | 1/750 sek. | ISO 250

Snooooow! After what felt like an eternity I visited "my" wolves in Hanover again. I was surprised, how grey they are! Couldn't believe, that even Jack lost his black/brown colour in the head/breast-area. It turned really grey, he looks even more like Scar or Bernie now. And I think the hierarchy changed a bit. Fluffy looks like the new Omega to me, but I need to watch that in the next month to see if it is true. Hopefully, there will be more snow then :aww:

Polarwolf | 7 month old | December 2012 | Wisentgehege Springe
Nikon D7000 | f 4 | 200mm | 1/500 sec. | ISO 400

But there was some water ice, they loved :D When I took a winterwalk with my own dog, I realized again how similar her behaviour compared to the one of wolves is. When we saw a frozen puddle, she did exactly the same as the puppies in Springe: She tried to break it and wanted to take one of the pieces with her. I edited the picture a bit, made it a bit brighter. The original picture you can find on Dawnthieves.

Bernie | male | Timberwolf | 7 years old | march 2013 | Hanover Zoo
Nikon D 7000 | f 2.8 | 200 mm | 1/500 sec. | ISO 100

He's the one and only unchallenged pack leader: Proud Bernie. Never met such a superior alpha. He looks more and more like his father Lakota, especially his eyes are so beautiful. I really love this amber colour :aww:.

Wooh, yesterday I managed to take my first puppy shots for this year! =)
This little, still nameless girl here is a very special one. There are three old wolves in ZOOM Gelsenkirchen, they are living there since 2005 and she is the first and only pup they ever had.
Here she was being nibble-groomed by her dad Hardy. The three old wolves are very lovely and caring towards the little girl.

Polarwolf | 9 month old | March 2013 | Wisentgehege Springe
Nikon D 7000 | f 2.8 | 200 mm | 1/500 sec. | ISO 100

Still winter around here. Today we visited the Hanover Zoo and it was so damn cold. Even the wolves were lying there, hiding their faces in their coat. Felt like -10 degrees. In March. A horror, I like to have spring sun now. This is another picture from last weeks visit in Springe. The wolves were very active and behaved very unusual towards each other. Akela wasn't chasing the polar puppies away and even Nantan was quite indulgent. Well, sniffing his back was still too much :D It will be very interesting to see, how the pack reacts when Yakima comes back. She was out of the pack for a few days, because she was ill. I hope they can re-integrate her and there won't be problems.

Jack | Male | Timberwolf | 6 years old | February 2013 | Hanover Zoo
Nikon D7000 | f 11 | 300mm | 1/500 sec. | ISO 800

I really do love the light in this picture here. Light is so damn important for photography. A beautiful light is able to make a picture nearly perfect, although the theme may be ordinary. This picture is some kind of important for me, because it was the last photosession in Hanover with my old and lovely Nikkor 70-300 mm lens. I'm going to sell it to buy something new - or repair my car . I will miss it and I'm still not sure, I can let it go. It was my first real telelens and I was very happy with the pictures that came out of it. This is one of them Good bye, my friend. :worry:

...but please stop that snow! x)
Nikon D7000 | f4 | 200mm | 1/750 sec. | ISO 125

We had so much snow this week, I can't see it anymore >.< I love snow in winter and I love to take pictures of wolves in snow, but now I want to have spring, sun and that smell of early summer in the air. It's march, Petrus! Come on!
