The Commissioner's Guide to Proper Etiquette tips & tricks to ensure that the artist does not hate your guts after you commission themThe Commissioner's Guide to Proper Etiquette3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Take the time to realize this is aimed at commissioners, not artists. Yes, there are a ton of things artists fuck up on, trust me, I know. Oh, I know. However that alone could be a whole 'nother journal- which I might go ahead and do because I've had frustrating experiences with artists. When I'm talking about bad commissioners here though, I'm talking about the worst of the worst. Why on earth do I think a timid question 3 weeks after your commission was accepted asking about how it's going is "badgering"?
These are things I've witnessed, I'm talking about the horribly entitled, belittling, superior attitude commissioners! The ones that send you a billion notes and PMs asking when their art will be done, and rudely, when it's only been 3 days! So no, I'm not saying artists should step all over you- because trust me, some will. And by god, they sh

'Is this a joke?!' You thought.
You touched the paper and the blood. The blood felt cold and felt like it was there for a long time. First thing that came in your mind that could have done it, Jane. You waited for the others to come back so you started to play Outlast on BEN's computer. They came back right when you started to get chased by a fat guy that looked like a pig and trying to find batteries in the game. They came in barely covered in blood except for Jeff. Jeff looked like he was doing surgery to someone. They looked at you but BEN ran up to you and sat next to you.
"Whatcha doing with my computer?" BEN said.
"Playing Outlast" you said not looking at him.
"Awesome!! Can I play?" he asked.
"Sure.." you said.
You gave him his computer and got up and walked up Jane. She gave you dirty look and rolled her eyes.
"What do want ugly?" she said.
You rolled your eyes." Did you write that note in my s

Crossed out pirates are away from the ship for one reason or the other. It's up to them if they decide to come back. In this case the PoL will be optionial, since they already made one.
1. Captain Chenbeard (Chen) the Pirate :iconwordofchen: - He was the first leader and founder of the Black Fedora Pirates and speaks with a pirate accent whenever he can. However, when no one is observing, he speaks with an english accent and generally writes poetry. He was set on this quest to break the curse of a Goddess, who forced him to sail the seas in order to return literature to the world.
You can find his his character profile here: http://fav.me/d4uq23v

My fear of catsI already talked a bit about it over at my twitter, but I want to elaborate a bit because it's something a lot of people don't seem to understand. My fear of cats8 months ago in Personal More Like This
I've developed a fear of cats. It's not a phobia because I can function perfectly normally in a room with a cat. It's presence doesn't bother me one bit. I'll even pet it, but I don't particularly enjoy touching it and if it tries to stand on my lap we're going to have a problem.
The thing is, it's the cat's claws I don't like. Even if a cat enjoys what you're doing to it, it'll bore it's claws into you out of pure bliss. Holding a cat usually involves pain too unless you face it away from you. I'm aware that not every moment with a cat is filled with pain, I've owned cats and lives with one at the moment after all (though it's not mine) and we get along just fine, but I've got more scars from cats than anything else (including the one I live with) and none of those cats were angry with me. They were just doing cat stuff.

I'm right handed, but I surprised myself when I did the mural and found out that it was easier for me to paint with my left hand, so I switched between my left and right hand when working on it.
Based on that experience, I figured I'd try to teach my left hand to draw with just as much precision as my right hand does.
And it's really fun, because first of all, I can't hold the pencil the same way with my left hand as I do with my right hand; when drawing with my right hand, I hold the pencil in a really weird way - yes, I'm aware of it. I know some of you noticed it in my traditional livestream sessions, that I curl my fingers really strangely around the pencil.. But now, using my left hand, I have to hold it the 'pretty' way that you learn at school.
My drawings with my left hand started out really really crap, but already after a few minutes I'm seeing some progress...!
But the really funny thing is how I can't really keep my
Some adoptable tipsOk, I wouldn't call myself an adoptable professional or anything, but I feel that I have made/sold enough to give some advice to anybody who wants to make adoptables, or is having trouble selling them! (some of these are short, others are a little more explained)Some adoptable tips1 year ago in Personal More Like This
- Try to be creative! A black wolf with some red stripes will NOT sell (unless you make it free...even then...meh) Overly detailed designs can be confusing, but something too simple is boring. I like to make most of the design simple, then add a few features that are completely different!
- There is nothing wrong with looking at other adoptables for inspiration, general ideas. But do not blatantly steal and/or copy designs!
- Line work--- Thick lines look great for cute, simple adoptables. Thin and varying line weights add to the design if it is more detailed. Use dark brown for lines to make it look softer
- Don't underprice your work, but also, don't overprice your work. Think: Would you buy it fo

Working hard (not) for the moneyA friend of mine just showed me a blog post from screenwriter and author of INVISIBLE INK, Brian McDonald. Read this! This is talking about writing screen plays but APPLIES to all of the arts and BREAKING INTO THAT DREAM JOB. I get emails all the time from artists that want "TIPS" about how to get better- THERE ARE NO TIPS! It is hard work and lots of it that makes you great. Working Hard for the Money
My step father once told me, when I was a kid, that what made someone a professional rather than an amateur was that they were paid for what they did. He was wrong.
Many people use my step father's explanation for what makes a professional and I find that it leads to shoddy workmanship because it takes the focus off of getting good at what we do and shifts it to getting good enough to get paid. Or even worse just getting paid. The craft is often thrown out the window in favor of just doing whatever it takes t

Original Quotes deviantWEAR Design Challenge!Original Quotes deviantWEAR Design Challenge!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's time for our next deviantWEAR Design Challenge, and this one is a little different. Writers, you play a crucial role! We're calling on deviants to create an original phrase, statement, or saying and transform these writings into an artistic and unique t-shirt design. Entries should display an imaginative phrase, expression, or statement as well as a beautiful presentation of the words in a "Design Typography" style.
We are not looking for famous quotes by historical figures, fictional characters, famous poets, and the like. Instead, we are excited to see designs and phrases in your very own words. So let your creative juices flow and share your inspiring words with the world! A picture tells a thousand words, but your typographical design for the "Original Quotes" entry will tell us even more!
Participation is easy!

"Paint (formerly Paintbrush for Windows) is a simple graphics painting program that has been included with all versions of Microsoft Windows. It is often referred to as MS Paint or Microsoft Paint. The program opens and saves files as Windows bitmap (24-bit, 256 color, 16 color, and monochrome, all with the .bmp extension), JPEG, GIF (without animation or transparency, although the Windows 98 version, a Windows 95 upgrade, and the Windows NT4 version did support the latter), PNG (without alpha channel), and TIFF (without multiple page support). The program can be in color mode or two-color black-and-white, but there is no grayscale mode. For its simplicity, it rapidly became one of the most used applications in the early versions of Windows—introducing many to painting on a computer for the first time—and still has strong associations with the immediate usability of th
