First look at Jurassic World T-Rex from SDCC!
Posted by ChrisLikesDinos - Wednesday 23 July 2014 at 12:15AM - 5 Comments
San Diego Comic Con keeps delivering the goods! Following up yesterdays amazing poster/art reveal, we now have our first look at Jurassic Worlds Tyrannosaurus! Click the picture below to see her in full:
While incredibly familiar to her first appearance, the design has undergone some tweaks: her skin is noticeably greener (though not as green as the TLW Bull Rex), her facial ridge highlights are pale as opposed to dark, and she has pale scutes running down her neck. Comic Con officially kicks off Thursday, so keep your eyes peeled for more from Jurassic World. While the chances may be slim, perhaps Legendary may share something Jurassic World related during their Saturday Hall H panel. Stay tuned for more upd

Advice on becoming a better artistI get asked by a lot of younger artists (and moms and grandmothers) for advice on getting better and becoming a professional comic artist. Hopefully this will help. Ask me more questions if I'm not clear enough and I'll try to post more about what I think makes a good artist and how to become a professional in the comic industry.Advice on becoming a better artist2 years ago in Personal More Like This
If you're not already aware, I'm a self-taught artist with little to no schooling on the subject. I thought I knew how to draw when I was a kid and I thought that drawing from shapes and building your characters out of forms was stupid. I don't know what the proper term for this is so I'm going to refer to it as construction drawing or under drawing throughout this post. My parents had purchased me some how to draw books, I also went to art class, and both of these tried to get me to use construction drawing techniques. Unfortunately I didn't understand the value of it and thus rejected it. I didn't need to build a tiger out of blocks, circles,
We need to have a talk. Frankly this has been a long time coming. So much literal s@#% I've tried to have just be water under the bridge. And with how everything has come crashing down gradually, it's about time I stopped being such a coward and actually speak my mind. There's gonna be a lot of talk about "me" here so if you think it's some "pride hype" bulls@#%, feel free to screw off. But if you're wondering why I won't do something or other, I'm gonna point you to this either way. If you're a commissioner, a person looking to get art from me, or just wondering who the heck I am, then this is probably relevant to you.We need to have a talk.6 months ago in Personal More Like This
So who am I then? Admittedly I haven't really cared about that question. Seemed far more noble to have yourself defined by the people whose lives you've touched in one way or another. And that's great and all... but that means you have other people decide FOR you who you become. I was so scared about defining that myself, so I tried appealing

There are myriad ways to avoid completing a project, and one of them is to become the eternal student. Always learning, always improving, so that future hypothetical story keeps getting better and better... While somehow never making its way into reality.
But on the other hand, it might help to know a bit about swimming before jumping overboard. So where do you draw the line? What do you absolutely need to know before getting your feet wet with a story?
I can't speak for anyone else. But when I started Dreamkeepers, I didn't know jack about story.
I didn't know about inciting events, verisimilitude, thematic armature, pinch points, none of it.
Quite simply, I did not know what the hell I was doing. Which makes for an interesting question about my first books.
Why don't they suck?
Professional reviewers have said "the writing was absolutely golden," that they were "completely blown awa

Panelling and Planning
-Drawing : Panels, shading, angles, techniques, and so forth:
1) Plan your comic out carefully first- just do a few scribbles on what is happening in your comic (are they talking? Any action?)
2) If you're not "good" at drawing people/animals/whatever, get a book on anatomy, watch anime/read manga to get a fair idea on what things should look like- PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT.
3) Camera angles: watch tv/movies/read manga to see how the camera is featured: Is it close-up? Birds eye view? Front on?
-Drawing : Panels, shading, angels, techniques, and so forth

Critiquing Critiquing StoryStory: Turns out you're doing it wrong.Critiquing Critiquing Story7 months ago in Personal More Like This
Everyone is- and what's more, anyone who tries to make a foray into storytelling without having mastery over their efforts merits endless scorn.
I've had the privilege of sharing advice with some other creators of late, and seen some of the (usually anonymous) criticism being leveled at their work. It's noteworthy for being intense, superficially sophisticated, and misguided.
Now, there are two kinds of creators out there. Those who don't give a fig for what other people think, and dismiss all criticism out of hand.
...Those creators tend not to improve.
Then there are those who care about the quality of their work, take pains to make it enjoyable for others, and are receptive to feedback.
These individuals have the most potential as writers, and are also most vulnerable to their efforts being permanently deformed by vindictive critique.
They'll be assured their characters are flat cutout

The Theme: Scary Video Game related Fan Art. all kinds of visual art are allowed, digital and traditional drawings, photos of sculptures, 3D model art (must be own models, ripped characters models don't count) or cosplay art.
You choose the game, the setting, the characters, important is only that it is something scary. Not scary in a cute way like a nice King Boo from Mario World, but really scary stuff, yes gore and violence is allowed as well. Gritty stuff, morbid stuff, horror elements are all fine.
Everything from a really scary looking undead League of Legends character to Pokemons etc is allowed.
In this contest you can also add characters from non-video game media like Freddy Krueger, Jason or the Super Natural Winchester Brothers getting eaten alive by Kirby. This contest is very unusual for this group, I k

I can't even begin to count the times I have heard a complaint regarding deviantART. Gallery changes, changes to the overall layout, the introduction of llamas, a new moderator, a Daily Deviation, a new senior member... you name it, I've seen people complaining about it. No wait, not complaining but BITCHING.
Calling people names, making threats, rallying up friends/fans - it seems people would do anything to get their point across and have their say. And, sadly, in most cases these kinds of complaints turn into personal vendettas. All of a sudden EVERYTHING deviantART does is bad. EVERY SINGLE THING.
They don't cater to you specifically? They never asked what is your stance on llamas? They never even wanted to know what you thought of that oh-so-famous deviant green? NO?
Well in all honesty, let's be realistic here. W

so, woooo! i just reached 500 watchers on this account, and i'm so happy C': thankyou guys so much.
so, like promised i'm holding a contest with great prizes >:"D
so... whats this contest about?
This contest is going to be about Halloween, my birthday, Christmas, and me reaching 500 watchers C:
alright, so there is going to be 5 categories that you can enter, y'know.. since its 500 watchers :'D <3
what characters do i use?
since i don't have any fan characters anymore; i'm deciding that you can make the drawing with ANY official sonic character, but PLEASE NO FAN CHARACTERS
my favourite sonic characters are;
Sonic the hedgehog
Shadow the hedgehog
Silver the hedgehog
Tails the fox
(please don't base a drawing around SonicSATAM characters, i hate them all :'U )
but i seriously don't mind if you want to draw a character like cream the rabbit or something C: it won't change my perspective on things.
how many characters in the picture?
Artist FeaturesI'd love to feature all of the artists currently on my commissionable list (which you can find here), but there just isn't the space or time; every artist on this list takes commissions, and if you know someone you'd like to add, or would like to be added yourself, please let me know! Similarly, if you want to be taken off my list for whatever reason, I will do so Just to warn you, some of the thumbnails below I've chosen may be NSFW or contain same-gender pairings - you've been forewarned, so please don't leave nasty comments about it. All the artists below deserve more attention.Artist Features1 year ago in Personal More Like This
So, without further ado:
5 Tips on Creating Dynamic Character1. Start with a concept. This is how most of my characters start, and they usually begin with two or three word descriptors. "Demon stallion" or "spoiled dragon prince" or "psychic dolphin". Characters as this stage are more anima than anything; they are forces at play in the primordial soup of story. When an idea is this new, I try not to focus on it too much. Ideas need time to germinate, and I've found myself disappointed in times past when the potential of the character was so much more exciting than the concrete reality of what they became. Since during this time I'm developing plot and main conflict, I try to move characters around and see who I gravitate towards. This helps story and character grow organically. It's during this time that I try and determine what the character struggles with, the yin and yang of their internal difficulty. For example, I was recently asked to come up with a character for an urban fantasy roleplay, with no real details about th5 Tips on Creating Dynamic Character3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Just some basic tips and tricks for flawless interaction on DeviantArt
Watch people when you honestly find them interesting.
Watch your friends, even if they don't have amazing art. It helps you stay updated with their progress.
Watch groups. They'll offer you a fine selection of art you're interested in, and will help you discover new (interesting) artists.
Check the faves of people you watch. As you like their work, you might have similar tastes in art. Checking their faves might help you find cool art.
Recommend art from people that you watch for a Daily Deviation (if good art, of course).
Uncheck all boxes when watching. There's nothing more disappointing than an empty watch.
Women and Armor: Saying GOODBYE to Panty-Plate P2Here be part two of my armor study notes for you guys.Women and Armor: Saying GOODBYE to Panty-Plate P21 year ago in Personal More Like This
Part two is going to center around warfare and battle styles, so please bare (bear? fuck it, I’m tired) with me.
This section might be complicated but don’t worry, it’s only here to be used as a reference and a guide to your own understanding.
( i really, REALLY need to get out of my apartment. I'm chomping at the bit, here. But I can't. And it's cold. > )
Open field battles with two standing groups or armies that include 100+ people.
Naval Battles with two large military or pirate ships containing 50+ people
Modern warfare: Examples of WW2 to now
Some tactical examples:
These people who fight these battles tend to have sort of advanced warning before they go into battle. This isn’t always the case, but I think it was a general courtesy across the ages. Tribes and really pissed of rebellions are probably the only ones to violate that rule.
Women and Armor: Saying GOODBYE to Panty-Plate P1Hello ladies and gentlemen artists and designers and writers and anyone else who may want a rundown on my take on Women and Armor.Women and Armor: Saying GOODBYE to Panty-Plate P11 year ago in Personal More Like This
Beware: Here be cussin'!
I’m writing this because there is this gigantic upheaval in the comics, video game, Hollywood machine, etc. over how women are portrayed in popular media and I think these themes, themes of women in combat and having to use any sort of armor (or even simply getting dressed for combat) is a subject of major contention. I, for one, and kind of tired of seeing the Panty-plate or exposed important bits and then some dude (or publisher/company) telling me this female character is some sort of fighter.
Now, a little disclaimer before we get started:
While I may pull from sources about this issues and use examples to further my point, I am in NO way bashing someone’s art. Some of these people (mainly dudes) who draw these characters fucking rock. I mean:
Look at that thing. She’s a total badass and I of

Fan Characters and the Curse of Mary SueThis was partly inspired by this article by dantesgirl; I recommend you read that on too! Where her article concentrated on original universes, we're going to take a look at fan characters and how they fit (or don't fit) into their chosen universes. A fun resource for this is the Mary Sue Litmus Test, but keep in mind that it's not perfect; for example, Tsukino Usagi of Sailor Moon scores a whopping eighty-seven points, but she's still a very flawed, yet very likable character that spawned one of the most recognized and well-loved anime/manga franchises on the planet! Don't be afraid, then, of high scores - instead, concentrate on why your character scored high and go from there.Fan Characters and the Curse of Mary Sue6 years ago in Art Features More Like This

As artists we seek for constant improvement. We learn, we strive for perfection, we fail and we keep doing things we love to do - here are my thoughts about the topic and I hope that they might be helpful.
1. Take notes
If you read something useful and inspirational - write it down. In journal, sketchbook - anywhere. Sketch something, put some lovely quotes - the information you'll see on tutorials, books and articles. You can't remember everything, so if you take notes and write the most meaningful things and then look through them - you'll learn more effectively.
2. Get out of the comfort zone
Learn something new with every new artwork you make. Challenge yourself, don't be afraid to study new things and push the boundaries of what you know. It feels so safe in

That time of year again!I can't believe it's been a whole year since I've updated my journal! Sorry for being so out of touch. As usual, my lame excuse is that I'm busy - but for a not-lame reason, at least. If you haven't already heard, I'm directing my first feature film. Its an animated comedy based on the myth of Medusa. Ironically, and embarrassingly, the very last journal I posted - a whole year ago - was to announce the same thing. My pals at the Wildlife Learning Center in Sylmar, CA are holding their annual fundraiser on Oct. 25 from 4-7 and I'd like to extend an invitation to all my DA friends!
And just like last year, I'll be there to chat and sign stuff. So bring your MLP or Powerpuff goodies that are in need of a name scribbled on them! You can purchase tickets
