Stamps are a great way to show your support for a project, a person or a group of people, spread awareness for a cause or promote a contest. It is also valid to do them just for fun, with just a funny image and/or message.
Since their introduction to the deviantArt galleries, millions of stamps have been created with a great variety of messages, both silly and serious, and you can see them all over the place, from journals to profile widgets.
The Community Relations department exists to encourage, facilitate and develop the relationship with our deviantART community. Our goal is to nurture our community by encouraging, stimulating artists to create, collaborate, and participate in a friendly, safe, and supportive artistic environment.

Short vs. Long - Contest Contest closed, thank you for participating!Short vs. Long - Contest6 months ago in Literature Features More Like This
Story planning isn't about length—you can use all of the tips throughout this week to figure out anything from a very well-researched drabble to a cycle of novels.
So I'm just taking a moment to talk about the big difference between writing a short vs. long work. I'm not hashing out every distinction—I'm leaving microfiction in particular to the experts—so for our purposes here a short story is anything from 1,000 to 10,000 words and a novel is 40,000 words and above. (Literaticat will tell you different things. Trust her.)
The basics are the same: you need a beginning, middle, and end (yes, short stories are complete stories)! You need an engaging protagonist who works well with the plot, and there's the same range of available genres.
So what is the difference?
Scope. A short story has to be <

Some months back we put together another Daily Deviations %projecteducate week which was quite successful. In light of some of the amazing feedback we recieved during that week, we decided to put together another DD week to highlight some things we were unable to cover last time. During this week we will again focus on some common themes which surround Daily Deviations in our community, and try to shed some light on them. We hope that we will address your concerns, but feel free to ask questions at any time!
For anyone who missed our last DD week, we encourage you to look over those articles as well.

PE: Interview with some dA Haiku MastersHello allPE: Interview with some dA Haiku Masters9 months ago in Literature Features More Like This
As part of this weeks %projecteducate, we have interviewed two members whose work is almost entirely focussed on fixed form poetry- and in this instance Eastern Poetry.
In my early deviantART days, Eastern poetry writing went through a popular phase. There were regular HaikuWriMo months, challenges and clubs; some of which still continue in their own ways. Two members who have continued that popularity and developed their skills in these forums are `jade-pandora and ~moyanII- both owners of a huge collection of Eastern poetry, DD's and beautiful creative writing. Both these delightful deviants have taken the time to share their experiences in this interview.
`jade-pandora was born in Los Angeles, California. She started writing seriously in 2001, joined deviantArt in 2003, and in 2007 discovered dA’s literature community when she stumbled into the HaikuWriMo of October 2007. Her fascination with Haiku dre

The icon must contain me or something that you feel represents me. (Check my current ID or instagram for my appearance)

How it Works
%projecteducate started with purely CV run weeks. Those were weeks focusing on a specific art form brought to you by your lovely Community Volunteers. As well as these epic seven days of awesome, we've now introduced two more themes which run on a bi-monthly basis. Those are Community Weeks, which include articles from members of the dA community - and Artist Toolbox Weeks which include a mixture of articles focusing purely on the 'tools' of the trade. If you're interested in either please note %projecteducate!

The Journal Feature ChallengeI love featuring art in my journal on a regular basis. There is so much great art around here that I find fascinating and I wish more people could see it. It's a great way to discover new artists and find inspiration. You can always browse and search for art on your own, but in my experience, is a lot more effective to search through collections curated by artists with interests similar to yours, as in their favourites or features in their journals. Besides, is also a great way to show your appreciation for artists you admire! And usually artists do appreciate the promotion when you let them know. The Journal Feature Challenge5 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This

Being Funny with HaveTales-WillTellI'm constantly sad about not finding sufficient amounts of humorous works here. It occurred to me that, you know, maybe I should spread the word on how to be funny!Being Funny with HaveTales-WillTell7 months ago in Literature Features More Like This
Since I've got nothing, I turned to someone who is pretty amusing around these parts. The thumbnails featured throughout this article were provided by `HaveTales-WillTell (or are from his gallery), so you don't have to take my word for it.
What do you find funny?
Above all else, I delight in cleverness. When reading, that often means puns and other forms of wordplay; with visual media, there can be the additional dimension of a character's actions mirroring or contrasting with their mannerisms, dialogue or accent.
These days, puns are underappreciated, relegated to opening-monologue punchlines and thrown-together internet memes. (Walken on Sunshine, anyone? ) Back in the day, it was different: Shakespeare, for example, included them in some form in every single one of his plays. One memorable e

Journal Skin January is a challenge brought to you by ^bradleysays which involves the creation of journal skins.
The idea is to create a journal skin or gallery skin for every week in January. You will be given a generous amount of prompts to work with - these will include both words and deviations.
This means that participants are required to submit four skins in the month of January to successfully complete this challenge.
What prompted this challenge? Probably the lack of activity seen in the journal and gallery skinning community lately. It is a sad fact that most of 2013 was quiet compared to previous years. I want to start 2014 off with a bang.
December 15th: Prompts released. Participants will be able to start making their journal skins from this moment.

Literature Gallery RestructureUPDATED GALLERY STRUCTURE - APRIL 4Literature Gallery Restructure9 months ago in Literature Features More Like This
If you haven't browsed Literature lately, it's a mess. Sure, some of it comes from people whose work truly transcends genres (ever read the Library of Congress classification for Gravity's Rainbow?) and some of it comes from how people choose to interpret certain genres (godsdamnit, 'dark' is not the same as 'horror'! No, this gallery hasn't existed in ~6 years. Stop judging me).
But a lot of it comes from people having trouble navigating the galleries.
Based on your feedback and more backroom discussion, we've reupdated things! Please keep in mind that a lot of discussion went into the updates, so when you do get mad about them do it with the assumption that there's a reason behind this
All galleries will accept text and PDF submissions unless otherwise specified.
