let's talk about something
not only do people on dA use MMD for still images
people on pixiv and seiga and anipan and tumblr and a lot of other places do that too, and not just from the english-speaking countries either. users of all kinds do it!!
so let me lay down what i think
MMD is for whatever you want to use it for, assuming you're not breaking any rules provided by the creator of the models you're making or the program
some people make still images, and that's fine!
some people animate, and that's fine!
some people make their own motion data, and that's fine!
some people use pre-existin models and make them dance with pre-made motion data, and that's fine!
some people edit models to make new characters or upgrade existing

Painting RacingMikuTime to slide over from keyboard and mouse to wacom tablet mode and mudbox! I pretty much just started so only got the color base and started to work on shading on the body. I have to do highlights next and the GoodSmileRacing text down her arm. Then onto the other parts. I use mudbox because it lets me paint on the model directly into layers like photoshop. It helps me get general shading done and kinda also serves as landmarks in photoshop to do some real detail work.
Anyways its late and my pc is kicking off some much heat from mudbox its like a oven in my little studio room. So I should pick this up tomorrow.
Racing miku and her UmbrellaFinished the other pig tail but after running it in mmd I kinda want to add new bones to it.. Just the method I used to rig it looks a little too ridged and a bone or 2 would be fine x 8 /facepalm. Sigh this means re-weighting 8 strands if the modified rig works correctly. Otherwise I did weight her bangs. I also added the umbrella as a slider to her right hand with its own bone. One other thing I really want to fix is her elbow position so I'll have to re-weight her elbows which is another booo considering the time I already spent on this stuff.Racing miku and her Umbrella1 month ago in Personal More Like This

So here's how I was able to create super high quality animated GIFs at full 30 fps using MMD and Photoshop
1. First Render in RAW. Use white background (Or whatever completely plain color edit: Use white, PS forces white background. If you don't want transparency but use a different color, let's say black, you need to render the background at black color and on PS insert a black layer at the bottom for background) for transparency
2. On Photoshop go to [File]--->[Import]--->[Video Frames to Layers]
3. Then [File]--->[Save for web and devices]
4. Resize Image if necessary (dA has max 150x150 for thumbnails)
5. Save
Thumbnails require separate image files which means you need to save the original AND resized/thumbnail GIF and upload them both in a single submit page
There, now go spam those MMD groups with Galaxias Gif
Also if you're going to resize the image to a lower resolution, it would be preferable to render the video at 50% larger than desire

Anyway, as the title says, there is a new and updated version of Ib!
From vgperson's tumblr:
"Over a year after the release of version 1.02 (and a little less than a year after the release of my translation), Ib has been updated to version 1.04. (1.03 was an intermediate version: 1.02 with smaller filesize, and it was only available on compilation CDs and stuff.)
I may post a complete list of changes later, but here are the big ones:
- The music is compressed, so the filesize is smaller. (About time.)
- There are new paintings and conversations to find in old areas.
- A new branch is available that leads to two new endings.
- After any good ending (read: Ib escapes), you can start the game over, keeping track of your endings and such.
- After you beat the game once and continue as mentioned above
