The deadline for submitting a deviation for this contest is February 17th. Contest entries should be shared in the replies of this blog entry.
The idea of this contest is to imagine your favorite canon characters, who either appear or don't appear in the movies, in a scene found in the book but not (yet) depicted in the movies.
Examples: What would the Hobbit movie actors look like with hair and costume as described in the first chapter of The Hobbit? Or, show the Lord of the Rings actors in the Barrow Downs, Old Forest, or meeting with Ghan-Buri-Ghan, etc. Did the movie skip one of yo
After Gold Coast Supanova 2013 (LOTSAPHOTOS)Hi its innocent yet perverted childish yet wise Rycecake with honey on top. I shouldve made this journal ages ago but I got really busy and tired.. the time has come however for this journal update. I was in another state for Supanova the cultural comic book and movies convention, went to Gold Coast, the place is like a paradise ok. If Sydney is like Kanto and Melbourne is like Johto then Gold Coast would be Hoenn. And this time I didnt go by myself... in fact LOTS of people came, I was with 3 high school friends as well as my bro :iconthiskidthatkid: and her friend Shawin, we had 6 people in a 4 people hotel room (Dont tell anyone). Oh gosh this trip is so much more different when there are other folks around, highlights includes Shawin (whos a professional dancer) teaching me a few moves on the dance floor, first time getting a kiss from a watcher, ordering LOTS AND LOTS of meat for the hot pot cos its unlimited refill, me trying to cook a pizza but failing miserably, and also goingAfter Gold Coast Supanova 2013 (LOTSAPHOTOS)1 year ago in Personal More Like This

There's a spine on my front lawn.Yes, it's exactly what it sounds like. There's a spine on my front lawn.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm not really positive what normal protocol is for finding skeletal remains on your property. I can't say I've ever sat down on a rainy day and been like.. "Hm.. kind of humid today. I should probably read up on what to do in event of bones showing up on my front lawn."
And you know, it wouldn't even be a HUGE issue if it was, say, a femur. Even an ulna! I'd just assume a cartoon dog moved in next door and, at most, I'd have to chide him for his slovenly habits. (After the inevitable half hour of wacky hijinx, of course.)
But no. It's a spine. Or at least, part of a spine. A particularly large hunk of spine. HOW DOES SOMEONE MISPLACE THAT. Especially so neatly detached from everything else.
Actually, it's occurring to me, I should probably take a picture of this, because I can already feel the wave of 'pix or it didn't happen' responses. And you are entirely in the right to ask this. I'm sending Zombiesmile out now to snap a ph

With these special clocks, you can wake up to the sound of your favorite character's voice each and every morning!
Like most of the merchandise this past year, these were made based off last year's character popularity polls. Milla and Jude were thrown in since ToX was new and wasn't in the polls yet.
*crais at the lack of Luke* Apparently 4th still isn't good enough even if he did beat the ToX cast
Price: 5,250 yen each
Release Date: late July
Maker: Bandai Namco
Character Voices: Look below to see the special dialogue from each character!
Note: These are very rough translations without much editing to make them sound in-character.

A robot must obey orders given to it by human beings except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.
A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Law.

If you've ever read anything in your life, watched a movie or followed any sci-fi you were influenced by Asimov, even if you didn't know it.
Biochemist. Professor. Historian. Author. Pioneer. Even humorist. Asimov was a very prolific artist writing over 500 books, essays, short histories, scientific articles and even a spoof chemistry article which confused more than one. Asimov wrote 8 hours a day everyday, armed with nothing more than typewriters for most of his life.
Probably the biggest contributions of Isaac Asimov were to the field of sc

PE: Textured brushesThis article is an introduction to textured brushes in digital art painting. I'll cover making your own brushes as well as the use of textured brushes. You'll also find some great art and brush sets at the end of this article. This is my first time writing for projecteducate, so I hope you'll find this helpful!PE: Textured brushes1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Textured brush vs. texture
First of all, what is a textured brush? And why should you bother with it when you can just slap a nice texture over your painting to make it look more interesting?
Alright, let's start at the beginning. "Textured brush" is a brush created out of a texture, so basically a texture in brush-form. Whether it's made with help of a pre-existing image (see texture above) or some wild scribbling on your tablet (like the example brush above) doesn't matter. Texture + select + define brush = texture
THREE TIPS FOR DRAWING CARSYou know that green ellipse tool that you bought in art school? Do you know how to use it for something other than oval shapes? Do you know what those "cross-hair" marks are for? And do you know how to use it for technically correct perspective drawings?THREE TIPS FOR DRAWING CARS1 year ago in Personal More Like This
TOO many comics artists don't, and it's driving me crazy. So instead of starting a blog that starts showing examples and naming names, I figured it was better to make a quick tutorial. And this isn't just for cars but also for guns, fire hydrants, and millions of other machined objects found in comics.
If you go through this and you're still stuck, please don't write to me. I'm happy to show you at a convention to make it clearer, but within a blog this is the best I can do. Check out "Perspective for Comic Artists by David Chelsea" for more.
Cars are a whole lot easier to draw if you know how to properly use perspective and ellipses. The more familiar you are with the math, the more fun it is to draw cars. Once I figured out th

Lines and Stanzas
• Do you have a clear rationale for breaking each of your lines where they currently end?
• Do your linebreaks generate suspense and surprise, making the reader want to find out what will happen in the next line?
• Are you employing a combination of end-stopped and enjambed lines?
• If you have more than one stanza, do your line groupings increase the impact of your poem’s style and subject matter?
Meter and Rhythm
• Does your poem have a discernible rhythm – either a scannable metrical pattern, or, if your poem is in free verse, a distinctive cadence that distinguishes it from prose?
The Music of Poetry
• If your poem rhymes, are the rhymes original, intelligent, and necessary?
• Have you fully considered alternatives to perfect end rhymes, such as slant, internal, and eye rhymes?
• Whether or not you are using rhyme, are you
hard cold advice from a fandom artistJust wanna share this awesome list that had been written by Euclase (http://euclase.tumblr.com, but the actual post already deleted) These are trully wonderful list of the truth^^, i kuddos u Euclase bb for your analysis n opinion coz some of them are ironically true:hard cold advice from a fandom artist2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So I love fanart. I think it's fun. I think it's a great way for someone to learn skills and build confidence in a relatively safe, amateur setting, but sometimes it's not sunshine and butterflies. Fanartists, because of the very visible yet niche nature of their work, are destined to encounter shitbags on the internet.
Since I've been sharing fan art online since 2002, I thought I'd type up some notes. This is just my experience/angle on things, so ymmv.
1. People will steal your art.
The difference between fanart and regular art is that it's recognizable by subject, and since you don't own the subject, everyone will assume they have the right to it. They'll put i
A Short Guide to Help You Publish ProfessionallyI don't know everything, so you might also want to check out this group: :iconpublish-write: for more information.A Short Guide to Help You Publish Professionally2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Okay, so you are a writer and you want to publish your story: it's a great one, everyone who's seen it loves it; you're sure any editor who reads it will want to publish it, so you set out to get your story published.
Well, it's a little easier said than done: getting published professionally takes a lot of time and a lot of work.
Why? Simply because there are so many writers out there who all want to publish their work; most publishing houses have what is called a 'slush pile' which is all the submissions they receive from unknown writers.
STAY OUT OF THE SLUSH PILE, IF YOU CAN
If you have a family member or a friend who works in a publishing house, ask their help; ask all your friends and family members if they know anyone who works in a publishing house; having a person you can talk to as a person and not as one more faceless submitter increases your chances immeasurabl

Halloween Contest!UPDATE: Whoa I just got six notes/comments within the last ten minutes telling me that they need more time or that they thought the contest ended the 30th! D:Halloween Contest!11 months ago in Personal More Like This
I understand how you might think that (the 29th is a weird date) but I chose it because I knew I'd be away from the computer from the 30th to the 1st. I'll extend the date to OCTOBER 30TH AT 11:59 PM EASTERN TIME but I won't... really be around to respond to comments/notes after like noon tomorrow.
So yeah the results won't be announced until after Nov. 1st. If you've already entered, feel free to update your entry, fix it up if you want to, etc!
After the success of the last contest, I've decided that I'm going to hold them more often! I'll be holding them every month or so. : )
It's already October for most of the world, and that means Halloween is just around the corner! So the theme for this contest is to design and draw Halloween costumes
Whole work in progress video... YouTubeWork in progress painting videoWhole work in progress video... YouTube1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
And I finally uploaded whole video painting progress from my recent painting Hidden Temple (drawing below). I wanted to post it already yesterday but I rendered it like 10 times already and I just couldn't submit it (it rendered more than 8 hours). So now it finally worked (though I still can't see full HD resolution. I recorded screen on 1920x1080px, but for now I can only see 720. I don't know why I hope it'll work later). I drew it 7.5 hours, and video is 6 times faster than actual drawing. So you'll be able to see whole progress in one hour.
And here below is video which I uploaded on our YouTube account Tincek-MarincekART. Like you see it's from drawing above...I drew it flipped like I said under the drawing. It's matte painting and you can see how many layers I use
