When I was little, I used to envision sandcastles as magical, whimsical dwellings; where mermaids slept and dolphins paraded. Graceful structures whose short manifestations made them all the more beautiful. Oh the irony of how one would awe at the marvelous thing, only to then watch it succumb to the ocean’s merciless tides. Like watching a gazelle fall prey to a lion. It never had a chance.
What frail things sandcastle’s are. So awfully feeble and weak.
What now appeared in front of us was far different from any quirky childhood fantasies. It seemed to mock the whole idea of what “sandcastle” had once stood for (at least in my eyes anyways).
