Remembrance Day originates at the end of World War I. The idea is to honor those who died in the line of duty, defending their country from enemies. For all its pompous words and fancy granite memorials littered with colorful flower bouquets, Remembrance Day and others like it have failed miserably in achieving this goal.
I've often been criticized as having no respect, and that can be an impediment when discussing certain topics. However, I am often in luck – hypocrisy deserves no respect. What changed as a result of the enormous sacrifice of those who died in WW1? As the first bombs of WW2 fell just two decades later, millions once again obediently lined up under various pieces of colored cloths to slaughter and be slaughtered. It became obvious that absolutely nothing had changed, and that the millions of WW1 had died in vain.
Most would agree that all that lip service paid to the sacrifice between the two world wars wasn't good enough. To truly honor their sacrifice would be

I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils.
A solitary path I claimed
In seeking shelter from the crowd;
And lo, when all deserted me,
I wandered lonely as a cloud
I sought the green and grassy knolls
Between the rustic barns and mills,
And spied the new winged, dappled lark
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
The silent majesty of thoughts
Was broken as I dreamed aloud.
I was wrested from my reverie
When all at once I saw a crowd
This treasure grows and rests upon
the fertile soil where river spills
I'll rest my weary bones within
A host of golden daffodils.

"That's the last of this holdout. Get a move on Chief, we've still got six recon points to go!"
'Just for once, could I not have to run these damn ODST drop recon points solo?' the Chief thought to himself. He wasn't exactly the young, 21 year old recruit he had been. Having been put into cryo-sleep, ditched on the edge of the universe, required to save humanity multiple times, all of these things had taken their toll on both the Chief's energy and his patience. He was 26 on that day, something which Cortana had reminded him of. As far as he could tell, she was the only one who knew or cared. He knew it shouldn't bother him, not at all. Not the Master Chief, Spartan-117, super soldier and savior of humanity. But it still did. Keys was dead, so any romantic interest that he might have had there was long gone, thanks to the fucking profits. There were plenty of girls who would have gladly been his lover but he didn't really feel inclined to

Remember me by your side
So I can keep my ray of sunshine

Each one muffled by the large, unscaleable walls of this dreaded place. All of his beatings break her inside. Slowly. Her body adjusting to the constant pain. Pale skin, covered in dark bruises. Some old, some new. Each one a reminder. Each one brings forth painful memories. Ones she wished were just nightmares. Silently he mocks her with each beating. But every time he opens his mouth, his words are as horrific as the beatings. Once he grows bored, he leaves her there to suffer. But before he leaves her there on the floor, broken. The same seven words leave his mouth each time. Tearing her to pieces and reducing her to tears once again.Abuse5 years ago in Short Stories More Like This

Although it may not look so,
I've all grown up, but you wouldn't know.
You weren't here to see the show,
It wasn't so long ago.
What a pity, what a shame,
You lied so much I'm surprised you don't have a false name.

Do you like being so far apart?
Did you plan this from the start?
Do you wish you could restart?

But then I wouldn't know what I should.
And wouldn't have gone through everything I withstood.
Too bad for you you've lost me for good,
But it doesn't seem that you care,
Or that you're even aware.

But I doubt that highly with you not around it's a breath of fresh air.
Regrettably I still miss you,

But also like breathing so natural
Why is it so contradicting
I just hope these feelings are mutual

Watching, my eyes saw the swaying limbs
thin and starved by winter winds...
Dancing, like moving cracks on the window,
Through which I did stare.
Imagine, the image so morbid above as I gazed.
unnerving to the anchoring blood,
drying up within the veins of my limbs,
much like the branches that sliced the air...
The roots dug deep into my back,
and the anchored blood began to freeze...
My vessels, destroyed by glaciers,
of icy blood, that once flowed.
The travesty, of the bullet plunged into my heart,
whose beat slows, and withers and fades.
Too and so soon, the loss of my life...
Now I play the game of patience...

All you're doing is making me blue!
I'm taking a stand, up off the floor,
There's nothing you can do.
Time for me to spread my wings and soar.
Didn't you want freedom once upon a time too?
No more wishing it was me you'd adore.
Because honestly all along I knew,
I could never compare, therefore,
I give up on trying to meet your expectations, get a clue.
I'm not being who you want me to anymore.
I'm now reborn, without you, time to start anew.

How are you?
Somehow I did not follow myself.
Can you try to understand me?
Yes, even a grown man will cry.
You cannot always ride them.
It is your mind that follows in suit.
We swallow hard.
The stars come and go.
Can I make my mental scars go away?
Fake smiles are hard to come by these days.
The sun does have the rays.
Can you imagine;
The world that never follows the rules?
Yes, nature can do the samething.
Images of many who break the spells.
Sell their own family.
I was given to a sacred heart.
Someone who loves me for who I am.
Do the rules really have to follow in suit?
The room does not have to be black and white.
Some rules bend.
Others can break.
Rules do not have to follow in line.
Does nature always follow by the rules?
Why are we being lead astray?
Burn or live.
Give me a chance to explain myself.
Just imagine who we are.
At least try to light the spark.
Sometimes there is a true mystery.
I may need some room to look around.
Can you read my mind?

The list grows longer and longer,

I didn't break any dishes,
Or over feed the fishes,
I didn't break your fire truck,
Or give you horrible bad luck.
I don't recall killing the flowers,
Or making you fail a test with my "magic powers",
I didn't mess with your make up,
Or eat your nasty kiwi yuck!
I don't know why my things are in your drawers
Or how your things got all over the floors
I simply don't have an answer for something I did not do,
But since in the middle child go ahead blame me too.

It is here in this dark lonely place
You find yourself sad with tears streaming down your face.
To some unbearable, and suffocating,
But to me it's a home of never ageing.
I stay here in my own world, forever and always,
Waiting, hoping, and dreaming to be saved from the rest of my days.

Cold and arrogant slithering beast, your tongue is forked with lies
Do you intend to take my dignity or perhaps to sully my eyes?
No matter how much you speak of warmth; affection, care or love

Did you think I would not see the truth, or perhaps you thought me blind?
Perhaps you felt you could deceive this man, for he is simply kind
Woe is me the naive fool, taken in by your stories of harder times
Sadly my dear, I'm an utter sadist and the punishment will fit the crime.
I will lash your body, with the best of whips; let the leather bite in close
And then I'll let you hang for awhile, whilst you stare at me morose.
Why so serious, do I frighten you badly, is this not what you want?
When you slithered into my happy home, it was a vicious seed you sought to plant
But frankly I'm evil, much more than you are, I am the darkness beneath your bed
I'm afraid that when you close your eyes, it's me you
