Prop-building 101In the Fighting Dreamers Productions I am usually the guy who builds most of the props (though both twinfools and Yuna are getting better and better at it all the time, and Val and Mavi are fearsome prop builders on their own right).Prop-building 1016 years ago in Personal More Like This
Since I tend to focus on manly characters with huge weapons, I receive quite a bit of mail asking for instructions on how to make them. Rather than writing hundreds of individual emails I wanted to create a series of articles on the noble skill of Cosplay prop-making.
And what a better way to start it than go through the basics of making giant weapons! In this first installment I will talk about materials and tools I use to make my props.
DISCLAIMER: there are many, many great Cosplay prop-builders, and in no way do I think my methods are superior to theirs. This is for those people who want to learn the methods to my madness.
Below is the list of the materials I use most commonly to create my props. Note that this is not a comprehensive list by
Tutorial thingyAs I type this journal, I have the dried (acrylic) blood of the hemospectrum all over my hands. Progress on the ~ATH book is good.Tutorial thingy3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Some of you requested a tutorial, I have no pictures but I can go over the process in this journal.
* Mod Podge
* Tons -o- acrylic paint
1. Acquire programming book.
I used this one here; http://www.sebodomessias.com.br/loja/imagens/produtos/produtos/363128_363128.jpg
It was $10 at a local used book store and it was already mostly black.
2. Paint it black.
Not the most exciting step of the process, but necessary. I used 3 or 4 coats of black acrylic paint to get an even coat.
3. I blew up a picture of the book in MSPaint (how appropriate) and cropped it down to the face. I experimented with sizes and found one that
worked. Then because I'm a masochist, I cut out a free-hand drawn face for the spine. I also pr

I was again cosplay guest in MEXICO CITY last December and here is my report!
The con was LA MOLE COMIC CON. The conventions I visit are usually more Anime/Manga oriented and it was my first experience with a more comic oriented convention. So I also did my first comic costume!
On Friday I visited the con as Siesta 45 from Umineko no naku koro ni :3. I had my own little booth where you coud buy prints, talk to me and make photos together.
I was guest together with 4 other amazing cosplay artists!

Vocaloid JBF Flower Wreath + Ciel lenses, etc.Jin's Flower Wreath ProcessVocaloid JBF Flower Wreath + Ciel lenses, etc.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Sometime last May, Kat moonlightflight and I cosplayed our favorite Vocaloid song, "Just Be Friends".
Their outfits seem simple at a glance, but that actually makes things more complicated sometimes. Hahah. Despite Luka's dress looking like something you could probably find in a mall, Charmie yaoiangel14 made the dress from scratch exactly as it looked in the artwork, just for Kat moonlightflight. Kat and I also did our best with the part of their outfits that had the most amount of detail (which also happens to be our favorite parts) the flower wreaths.
I have some pictures of the progress of my wreath, so I thought I'd share them. This probably isn't the best method of going about this, but this is how I did mine and I found it pretty easy. (I wish I could have taken more photos or a video, but to be honest I wasn't quite sure I'd pull this off at first. Hahah!)
COSPLAY MAKEUP TUTORIAL!Hi guys!! Thank you as always to all watchers and everyone who faves and comments - I'm so sorry I don't have much time these days to reply to everything, but I definitely do read and appreciate them all!COSPLAY MAKEUP TUTORIAL!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I've been asked so many times I've lost count to put together a makeup tutorial on how I do my cos makeup - and I finally did it!
I hope this is a little helpful, although some disclaimers - I have Caucasian features, so my makeup will be very different to someone with a different face shape. I use a lot of eyemakeup, much more than a lot of people, just because I do lol. My eyes a pretty big naturally, so I line them right up the edge, as opposed to widening the eye by drawing further out. A few things like that to bear in mind ^_^ That said, hope you enjoy! *chu*

A couple of weeks ago, we attended an event called Fantasy Quest 2. (The very first Fantasy Quest was when we cosplayed Harry Potter characters.)
It was a pretty special day for us because four years ago, we had our first shoot and bonding day with Ysabel SavingSunlight at the venue, Fernwood Gardens.
We've been really into Adventure Time, so many months ago we decided we'd do AT cosplay, and that Fantasy Quest would be a fun opportunity to do so. It feels weird how we had been looking forward to this event for ages, and now it's over!

We attended PAX East 2013 last weekend! We debuted our newest costumes from Dishonored, and had an all around blast.
You can read all about our experience on our new Cosblog!
Which is the next news! We have added a Cosblog to our Website! It will be our new place for posting about convention experiences, tutorials, and W.I.P!
That way we aren't cluttering our Tumblr, Facebook, or here at our DA.
Our prints are still on sale! But get them now, because we will be closing our Print shop on April 15th!! due to us being apart.
Also, if you aren't following us on Tumblr you should be! We'll be doing a giveaway of some prints, some Dishonored Bone Charms, and more swag soon!

Photography Tutorial 1 - BackgroundsBackgroundsPhotography Tutorial 1 - Backgrounds4 years ago in Personal More Like This
For the first lesson of photography, we’re going to start with BACKGROUNDS. The background is an important part of the picture, whether or not the main focus is on the doll/subject. No one wants to see random objects, people or a mess in the background. Do not ever assume that shallow depth of field or bokeh will ‘hide’ away the mess in the background in a blur. It is still possible to make out a human head or arm in the blurred background.
DO NOTE: This tutorial is extremely IMAGE HEAVY. Most photo examples are contributed by us, while some are credited to the respective owners. So all necessary photo copyrights still RETAIN. DO NOT USE ANY OF THE PICTURES OR ANY PART OF THE TUTORIAL WITHOUT OUR EXPLICIT WRITTEN PERMISSION.
Granted the fact that not many of us stay in places with a whole variety of outdoor locations to shoot or simply have the

In this post, I'll get into how I did each one!
Intro, and some bad old pictures
For those of you who have the patience to read for some extra info!
When I started cosplaying, I didn't think makeup was such a major part of it. I was so hesitant to even put eyeliner because I'd think, "This character is a guy, I shouldn't look like I'm wearing makeup!" And I guess I was silly enough to think I looked enough like the characters I chose without doing anything to my face?
I can't find more pictures of my really old cosplays (which is just as well, hahah) from the time I didn't want to use makeup apart from these:
I cosplayed as Haku from Naruto. I don't remember wearing any makeup for this. It doesn't show too well on these pictures but I saw some others where the natural redness of my lips made it look like I was wearing lipstick even if I wasn't. I felt it made me look more feminine than I should. Haku is still a guy after al

So I've been thinking....Well loves,So I've been thinking....1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I feel like it's time to say goodbye.
Lately nothing is working for me and I've come to realise just how annoying and frustration it is to work out a plot, type it up and finish off.
It's taking up all of my mind and I just can't stand it anymore.
I'm very sorry about those people who requested things from me lately and the kind people who entered my contest, but I can't do this anymore.
I'm going to deactivate in a couple of days when I've finished saying goodbye to people.
You've all been incredibly kind and wonderful people and I'm sorry to say I'll probably never speak to you all again.
....... April Fools! ;D
Couldn't resist honestly! Sorry if I've pissed someone off by doing this, but hey I've never pranked someone in my entire life before, so I thought why not now? ^^

Ahab's Crosshairs Crude TutorialI'm writing this from memory, so I apologize if it's not very good. Also, I made the gun in probably one of the most inconvenient ways you could do it, so it may be better to disregard this entirely.Ahab's Crosshairs Crude Tutorial3 years ago in Personal More Like This
First off, materials.
* One board, about 2 1/2 inches thick, around 10ish (estimate) inches tall by however long you want the gun
* One thick dowel, about 6 inches longer than you want the harpoon to be
* One functional pellet-gun scope
* A few short, thin dowels
* Two large bolts
* A ton of wood glue
* ALL the acrylic paint
* Finish spray
1. Sketch out the shape of the rifle onto the wood. I did this by scaling it up from the picture on the MSPA wiki. It took DAYS to get it how I wanted. You will have to cut off the handle.
2. Cut it out.
3. Sketch out the handle on one of the scraps, cut that out too. Attach trigger dowel with a hole and glue.
4. Drill holes where the handle attaches to the gun body. Use wood glue to glue in dowels, then "plug them in" to matching holes in

So what is Wonderflex, then?
Wonderflex is a type of thermoplastic that is shaped with heat. Inside the plastic is woven fabric that holds the sheets of Wonderflex together when it is heated and malleable. It comes in white color, in sheets ranging from large to enormous, so you can make pretty much any Cosplay prop out of it. All my cosplays that you see in my gallery have some Wonderflex in them.
Wonderflex can be acquired at:
There are two main things you'll want to do with Wonderflex: cut it and heat it.
The best feature of Wonderlex is the fact that it can be easily cut with a good

Free! Iwatobi Swim Club cosplay shoot outtakes!When my friends and I first heard of "that swimming anime" called Free!, this is pretty much what we expected:Free! Iwatobi Swim Club cosplay shoot outtakes!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Not that there's anything wrong with that hahah, but all we were expecting was to be able to laugh at how exploitable and full of fanservice this show could be because swimming would require everyone to be half-naked. Although it started out that way, the more episodes we watched, the more we realized...
We were wrong. So wrong.
What we got was a heartwarming coming-of-age story with endearing characters and interesting dynamics. It spoke of friendship and learning your self-worth and figuring out what drives you forward.
I'd write more about how I feel about it but it would take up too much time and space over here, so here are a couple of posts that have already done the job well:

Bad Teachers and Egotistical Jerkwads Good lord, another journal. Well, sometimes I go for a month without writing one, so suffer! :iconinuevillaughplz:Bad Teachers and Egotistical Jerkwads6 months ago in Art Features More Like This
I've been asked about this recently, so thought I'd write about it just in case someone else might relate or find it encouraging.
A lot of people are surprised to hear that I have only been painting since 2011. Well, it's true . I had coloured a few line arts here and there before that, but I never really tried at painting. I was dabbling and just slapping on colour, not bothering to figure out the programs or anything. Because I truly didn't believe I could do it.
Backing up a bit, I'm someone who was a traditional artist. I have been drawing with pencils and paper since I was just a little tyke. Naturally, I wanted everything to do with art in school. :iconhandsomeonionplz:
And that's where this little tale turns dark and mildly depressing :icon0inuscreamplz:
I had this teacher, in my very first
