Prop-building 101In the Fighting Dreamers Productions I am usually the guy who builds most of the props (though both twinfools and Yuna are getting better and better at it all the time, and Val and Mavi are fearsome prop builders on their own right).Prop-building 1017 years ago in Personal More Like This
Since I tend to focus on manly characters with huge weapons, I receive quite a bit of mail asking for instructions on how to make them. Rather than writing hundreds of individual emails I wanted to create a series of articles on the noble skill of Cosplay prop-making.
And what a better way to start it than go through the basics of making giant weapons! In this first installment I will talk about materials and tools I use to make my props.
DISCLAIMER: there are many, many great Cosplay prop-builders, and in no way do I think my methods are superior to theirs. This is for those people who want to learn the methods to my madness.
Below is the list of the materials I use most commonly to create my props. Note that this is not a comprehensive list by

Not everyone's Teiko uniforms are ready just yet, but we wanted to get a feel of things for the proper shoot so we did this for practice. It gave us a chance to try out our wigs and makeup and junk to see what we need to improve on for our actual cosplays.

So what is Wonderflex, then?
Wonderflex is a type of thermoplastic that is shaped with heat. Inside the plastic is woven fabric that holds the sheets of Wonderflex together when it is heated and malleable. It comes in white color, in sheets ranging from large to enormous, so you can make pretty much any Cosplay prop out of it. All my cosplays that you see in my gallery have some Wonderflex in them.
Wonderflex can be acquired at:
There are two main things you'll want to do with Wonderflex: cut it and heat it.
The best feature of Wonderlex is the fact that it can be easily cut with a good

Vocaloid JBF Flower Wreath + Ciel lenses, etc.Jin's Flower Wreath ProcessVocaloid JBF Flower Wreath + Ciel lenses, etc.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Sometime last May, Kat moonlightflight and I cosplayed our favorite Vocaloid song, "Just Be Friends".
Their outfits seem simple at a glance, but that actually makes things more complicated sometimes. Hahah. Despite Luka's dress looking like something you could probably find in a mall, Charmie yaoiangel14 made the dress from scratch exactly as it looked in the artwork, just for Kat moonlightflight. Kat and I also did our best with the part of their outfits that had the most amount of detail (which also happens to be our favorite parts) the flower wreaths.
I have some pictures of the progress of my wreath, so I thought I'd share them. This probably isn't the best method of going about this, but this is how I did mine and I found it pretty easy. (I wish I could have taken more photos or a video, but to be honest I wasn't quite sure I'd pull this off at first. Hahah!)
Parts of 'Brave' I worked onMany people have asked what parts of the film "Brave" I worked on so I figured it might be best just to post a journal entry about it. Warning... if you have not seen the film there might be some spoilers in this.Parts of 'Brave' I worked on3 years ago in Personal More Like This
My role on the film was "Master Lighting Artist" but my general role is "LIghting Technical Director". Don't let the word "director" confuse you. I am not the head of lighting, it's just a term for every Lighting Artist that means our job tends to be technical and most of the "directing" I'm doing is kicking computers to get them to do what I want. For those who do not know what "lighting" means on a 3D animated film let me give a quick description. Pixar movies are not hand drawn like traditional animation. They more closely resemble stop motion film where a physical 3 dimensional puppet is made, a set is built, real lights are put in place and then an animator moves the puppet slightly then takes a picture, moves it again and takes another picture, until you have a whole "s
End of Hiatus, KatsuCon, and YouTube!Hey friends! Sorry it's been like a millenia since I last updated. ^ ^; I've come to say that I have finally ended my cosplay hiatus, and working on costumes for KatsuCon 2014. I'll be doing weekly costume progress reports, and biweekly music vlogs and cosplay tutorials (though they may be a little sporadic thanks to my KatsuCon costume crunch lol). But drop by my channel and check out what I have up so far if you haven't already. https://www.youtube.com/user/akuritamago
I'll see you guys at KatsuCon! X3
Rest In Peace Iwatathis is kind of depressing for a first journal from me on this account but, as pretty much everyone knows now, Nintendo's president Satoru Iwata passed away today. i've been pretty sad about it, as pretty much everyone has been. Nintendo's had such a huge impact on my life, as I'm sure it has for many people, and to see one of the legends of gaming go so suddenly has been very heartbreaking. i mean, its not like i knew the guy personally but it feels like i've just lost a grandparent or something.Rest In Peace Iwata3 months ago in Personal More Like This

Arrietty is an evil movie, apparently...A few months back Fox News went after The Muppets for "promoting the liberal agenda" (whatever the **** that means this week). Miss Piggy got back at them with a scathing remark during an interview shortly after the controversy and we all had a laugh at Fox's expense. Well... Fox is at it again...Arrietty is an evil movie, apparently...4 years ago in Personal More Like This
This time they're going after Studio Ghibli's "The Secret World of Arrietty" and accusing, once again, that liberal Hollywood's agenda is corrupting children and turning them into "occu-toddlers." They also turned their sights on the new adaptation of Dr. Seuss's The Lorax. They claim that both movies "demonize the 1%" and that people "offended" by these movies should fight back by... littering. Don't believe me? Watch the video and get ready to facepalm: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RuFcWkFJZgk
Now I can understand (barely) how a conservative could possibly have an issue with The Lorax since it deals with criticizing the logging industry and promoting the dangers of excessive defore

As of now, my brain is too fried to write up a proper journal entry about our volcano GARventure, and one of my usual event reports (as you can see on the right side of my journal) about Cosplay Mania, but I'd like to take this chance to share a part of our lecture of sorts at the Cosmania cosplay workshop last Sunday.
China snowpeachdrop, Kat moonlightflight, El rosiael and I were invited to talk about general cosplay planning, like fabric selection, wig styling, cosplay makeup and photography. My friends might post the other parts, but for now here is our silly guide about posing for cosplay photos, and convention etiquette. In this post, I'll get into how I did each one!
Intro, and some bad old pictures
For those of you who have the patience to read for some extra info!
When I started cosplaying, I didn't think makeup was such a major part of it. I was so hesitant to even put eyeliner because I'd think, "This character is a guy, I shouldn't look like I'm wearing makeup!" And I guess I was silly enough to think I looked enough like the characters I chose without doing anything to my face?
I can't find more pictures of my really old cosplays (which is just as well, hahah) from the time I didn't want to use makeup apart from these:
I cosplayed as Haku from Naruto. I don't remember wearing any makeup for this. It doesn't show too well on these pictures but I saw some others where the natural redness of my lips made it look like I was wearing lipstick even if I wasn't. I felt it made me look more feminine than I should. Haku is still a guy after al

Anti-Islamic websitesAssalaamu alaikum [Peace be to you],Anti-Islamic websites3 years ago in Personal More Like This
For Muslim brothers and sisters,
A questioner asked: "People are emailing me websites that attack Islam. They say... that we should send this out to everyone and tell them about it. But is this a good idea to send these sites to everyone? What about the non-Muslims? Should we tell them to be careful too? What should be done? Can we visit them at all? Should we warn others?"
One of the downsides of the internet is that it has given our critics and enemies an opportunity to publicly defame the religion of Islam. I guess this is the price of having freedom of speech. Sometimes you have to read and hear things which are just plain detestable.
The fact of the matter is that its enemies have defamed Islam from the very beginning and this is not about to change anytime soon. What's more, since Muslims are in a very weak position these days, the amount of anti-Islamic propaganda is on the rise from many quarters. I am sure we have all encountered numerous w
