I do love the interactions between Rarity and Applejack on the show. Over three seasons they have come to be the most consistent comedy pairing with classic chemistry at work between the fussy drama queen and the dependably rough-and-tumble workhorse. As they are often criminally overlooked by segments of the fandom (and even those producing merchandise for the show), I am always happy to revisit one or both of these ponies in some new art.
Of course, if there were ever to be a day celebrating these two, it surely should come on the birthday of a certain prominent Pony artist who is often the first name in drawing either of these two, namely the wonderful WhiteDiamonds
. (Happy Birthday my dear (and it still counts in your time zone!) I hope a quick drawing of two charming ponies adds a little extra to what has been a day filled with warm greetings from your many fans! You're a beloved part of this fandom for a reason.)
As it happens, I found her birthday arriving this year in the midst of a heavy workload on my job and, even more alarmingly, at a time when I really didn't have any new ideas for pony art (well, nothing that wasn't already in some stage of production, that is... and passing off something like that as a gift would be dishonest.) Still, why should I let the lack of an actual idea hold me back? The result is the image above, put together in snips of free time between assignments entirely in the last 24 hours. Credit again goes out to KP-Shadowsquirrel for the blank pony model which I used for a lighting and pose reference.
