I was asked to come in and make a new headsculpt to get her through likeness approvals. Thankfully I was able to use Mark's existing pigtail sculpture (Mark sculpted the rest of the statue, and did a beautiful job as always!).

Plushie FAQ and Master ListWow. You guys really like those plushies. Awesome! However, I keep having to answer the same questions over and over again, so I'm dedicating this journal to a FAQ.Plushie FAQ and Master List5 years ago in Personal More Like This
1. I don't see (character) on the list!: You may suggest up to three characters to be plushified. This is not a guarantee I will make them, but I will consider each one. The suggestions must be of CANON characters. Canon means this character actually appeared in an official medium such as a game, cartoon, or comic. (Or was slated to be, I will take unused but official characters.)
2. I don't like the way this plushie looks! The clothes/colors/hair/fur/accessories aren't right or there's something missing! WTF?: Then make your own damn plushies using your own damn template. 8D
3. Can you make a plushie of my fan character/original character?: Absolutely! They go for $5 or one month's subscription. No, I don't do them for free, the economy sucks, I need all the help I can get. When you are ready to pay, p

The Spectre of Magical Realism Comes to TexasGabriel García Márquez
When he died last April at age 87, he had for a half century been a candidate for “world’s greatest living writer.”
Author of short stories and novels, including his masterpiece, One Hundred Years of Solitude, he received the Neustadt International Prize for Literature in 1972 and the Nobel Prize for Literature in Literature in 1982. He was a fierce critic of the United States and had a friend in admirer Fidel Castro, with whom he sometimes shared notes on his works-in-progress. He was banned as a “subversive” from entering the U.S. for several decades until President Clinton lifted the tr
4 Kinds of StorytellingHere's an old journal from 2010 about storytelling. Because I have a lot more readers these days, I think I'm going to start reposting some of my earlier posts for my newer audience. So for you old timers, feel free to skip.4 Kinds of Storytelling2 years ago in Personal More Like This
In full disclosure, I slightly edited this journal to make it a little more balanced (while also fixing a ton of typos).
I feel like the word "storytelling" gets thrown around a lot in our industry. Yet when I look out there at some comics, I don't always see a lot of evidence for it.
It feels like people in comics pros--myself included--often use the word only because we feel like we're supposed to. Over the years enough professionals have been accused of being poor storytellers to the degree that everyone is now afraid of being a pinup artist as opposed to a bona fide storyteller. But it's not enough just to claim you're a storyteller.

OBJECTIVE: CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT AND STORY BUILDING
I began working pretty heavily on LMS during the first quarter of 2009. I had now a handful of characters, a rough idea of the story, and a general scope of what I wanted the book to be. To get started, I felt every book should have a theme. Movies do, right?
Spider-Man: Great powers, great responsibility.
Batman: Be more than just a man, a symbol, and be remembered a legend.
Star Wars: The myth of a heroes destiny, and the truth that allows him to be set free.
Who was Gabriel? What type of character or archetype was he? What were his rises and

OBJECTIVE: SELL THIS DAMN BOOK, DANNY.
At first, Gabriel was nothing more than a character named ONE. He had no backstory, no face, nothing. I just wanted to create a character that was a badass, yet with a sense of humor.
I was inspired by such characters as Boba Fett, Wolverine, Deadpool and Clint Eastwood from The Man With No Name trilogy. I needed to create something that fit that build, however, I'll admit, it wasn't intended at first.
I uploaded him on December 8th, 2008, (which, you can find here: http://danluvisiart.deviantart.com/art/GABRIEL-107612010?q=gallery%3Adanluvisiart%2F7848546&qo=50) and he became one of the most popular characters of the series, if not, the most. Soon I started finding him on forums, websites, fashion blogs (what?), and more.
But what hit me so hard was that the majority of the comments rela

On Behalf of Everyone...Thank You.Earlier today I received a message from our Studio B receptionist letting me know that a package had arrived for me. While I wasn't at the studio, I had my good friend pick it up so I could retrieve it from her later on. At first I was a bit weary to the situation, I didn't know who it was from, nor was I expecting anything in the least. All day while Raven and I passed our time at the mall, I pondered and worried about the strangeness of the situation. I found it odd that someone would send a bouquet of beautiful flowers and two carefully wrapped presents to the studio (who wasn't my husband to be anyhow!)On Behalf of Everyone...Thank You.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Later on in the evening, I met up with Nicole and I finally got to see the gifts in hand. I brought them home and unwrapped them to find two giant boxes of delicious treats, and a letter that made my heart and mind feel at ease again. "SGT Dave", a soldier currently placed in Iraq had sent these wonderful gifts

How to become a better colorist?Hey guys and girls. Today something especially for you. Some useful tips from coloring artist. How to become a better colorist?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Some of you asked me about tutorial. I really wanted to write one but they are so time consuming.
So let's start.
1. Make good flats at the start. Use polygonal lasso tool in Photoshop and then Paint bucket tool, it's the most accurate method. Filling areas with brushes is wrong, believe me. You will swear to gods and scream out loud trying to later fill all these tiny holes you didn't notice white painting flats with brush.
Of course don't stick to this advice too much. If you have a bunch of tiny elements it's obvious that it's better to color them with hard brush than to use lasso, especially the polygonal one
My way of doing flats is to make every particular color/character on a separate layer. For example, having two girls, sky and clouds in the picture, I make 3 groups: background, girl1, girl2. Then in each group I make layers for: sky, clouds, skin, hair, shirt, jeans... etc. May look

Contest! Draw Sophie and get a MH Drawing! What is this contest about?:Contest! Draw Sophie and get a MH Drawing!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Draw my doll Sophie
you can draw her chibi, realistic or in your own style, but her face must be always visible and you must draw her joints. She is a doll, I wouldn't like her to look like she wasn't. This means you MUST draw her joints, but you can draw her with any expression, like if she was alive.
You can draw her with the clothes she has in the photos or even design your own clothes for her, so you have total freedom about it.
how many drawings can I do for this contest?:
As many as you want without limit, as long as they are 100% original and finished (full colored). No work in progress, no drawings in striped paper.
Traditional or digital?:
Both are accepted
Please, be original:
Don't steal other people's drawings, don't use bases, and please, don't just copy a photo T_T
You may use a photo as a reference, but don't traze it.
If you do, you will be kicked out from the co

HOW TO DRAW TITAN CHARACTERS (faces anyways..)HOW TO DRAW TITAN CHARACTERS (faces anyways..)2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So I just accidentally uploaded the video.... Here a proper journal about this. Oh god watching this, my voice is strange on video...OH WHO AM I KIDDING it's always been strange...
Click the drawing or click HERE:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yeZHFZ5ruIk&featurelcp to be taken to the video!
So I finally posted something on youtube! And it only took me, what? Almost a year? Yeah sounds about right...
But really the video is to help out anyone who has trouble with drawing the titans. It's just the faces, because if I did bodies too, well it would take up 30 minutes (or more) and I'm sure that is going over board.
It's done traditionally because I own a webcam and I should actually start using it. That and I miss using my mechanical pencil.
Also I'm sorry if they might not look exactly right (I'm a critic to myself ok?) it might be my 'style' trying to take over [hahaha].
Very sorry if my method i
