Here's my 2010 pumpkin!! ...and it was a challenge. It was a bit of a departure from the intricate and thin carving of the previous 2 carvings I've done. The change in technique almost killed me.

So this year I was aiming for realism and dynamics more than anything. I made the decision to forgo a 3d sculpt. With the 3d sculptures the light and dark areas are reversed which I donít love. Of course, this way mine looks kind of stupid unlit but I donít really like to show my pumpkins unlit anyways.
As far as subject matter goes, StarCraft II is an awesome game and I like to keep my focus somewhat current. Tychus Findlayís devious personality and expression coupled with a conveniently shaped helmet made him perfect. Plus he has that cigar.
The entire pumpkin was carved using a scalpel with the exception of the eyes which required a needle. It took about 11 hours to freehand, gut, and carve the pumpkin. Actually, it probably took another hour of fiddling with the camera to get a good picture. I really hope you like it!
