Not quite done after all! After posting my Wife Splat ([link]), I decided I would do something similar with all the sketches I did of the both of us. I like these because there are a lot of things I want to post, but I don't want to post them all individually for reasons. I was planning on waiting on this one, but I decided it would be better to archive this sketchbook (more or less) entirely before moving on to the current one. This is really fun because it sort of tells the story of our entire courtship, from first meeting to our engagement and marriage and beyond. Such memories! Long-distance relationship=NO. Marriage=YES.
This is my Overdue gift for my pal and friend =Lioheart25
It was really fun to do at first I just wanted it to be moonlight. then I made it day by mistake when I colored it so I change to a rain storm and that looked cooler than a Foggy evening I think. anyway
Finally, after about 2 years of drawing and redrawing I'm ready to show off two original characters I've had in my mind for all that time.
Meet Ink and his little sister, Paint. Two critters who love to draw and explore.
Their are two reasons behind their names. The first has to do with their natural markings which resemble splatters. Ink, of course is the one that looks like he's covered in ink splatters, while Paint looks like she's covered in a rainbow of paint splatters.
The second reason is due to the mediums and colors that both critters prefer to use. Like his name suggests, Ink loves to make art using ink, black paint, and similar mediums. He'll also dabble in charcoal(black and white of course). He prefers to create pics of strong black and white and greys or even just inked drawings(like when you ink a pic you've drawn). Ink's paintings come out very clean and neat and vary between solid and soft contrast of blacks, whites and greys due his good use of shading. He's also pretty good at calligraphy.
Paint on the other hand, loves to be free and wild with the spectrum of colorful paints, both oil and acrylic. Her paintings are often bright and vivid, reflecting her spirited personality. Her love of coloring isn't just limited to paints. She also dabbles in pastels(both oil and chalk) and a bit of water colors. Unlike her brother though, her handwriting leaves a lot to be desired.
Despite their different art preferences, Ink and Paint have worked together to create works of art. Ink handles the inking of the pic and shading while Paint handles the coloring process. Their long tails are their main tools for painting, drawing, etc. Wile they often argue over the handling of a pic they collaborate on, they eventually get the job done.
Ink and Paint have their disagreements over their art and medium preferences and sometimes due to their differing personalities. Ink is a thinker and a bit more self controlled than Paint, who is lively and sometimes acts without thinking. But they both can be mischievous and are very curious and in the end, consider each other a good sibling, friend, and art partner.
Ink and Paint were inspired by a hat I have that's white and covered in paint splatters. I started to imagine an animal with markings that resembled paint splatters and began to draw out designs. Ink and Paint were actually first drawn as anthro cats, with more human looking bodies. As time went on, I tried drawing them in a more cartoonish style. Still, I wasn't quite satisfied. As time went on, I just felt like making them cats didn't seem so unique/ creative. I love cats, but they're a pretty common species amongst cartoon characters. Recently, I picked up the pencil again and tried to go for an undetermanible species look Which eventually led to what you see here. I was partially inspired by the comic book character, Marsupilami(some of you may remember the short lived Disney series), mostly with the ears. They look a bit canine, but they're not. As for what species they are, I'm considering the name, Watchamadoodles, or Doodles for short.XD
And yes, Ink and Paint's names are a reference to the job of inking and painting in cartoons and animated movies, mostly the traditional process in which the characters were inked by hand and then sent to another department where they were painted by hand(Really makes you admire the animators of those times).
I'm still trying to get their personalities down and create character sheets, so some of the info you see here may change. I was just eager to show these guys off. I've seen a lot of great original characters here(meaning those not created for a specific series) and was inspired to come up with some of my own. I really hope to use Ink and Paint more in the future.
Looking at this I should've switched the two to stand over their name, but whatevs.
This is a pose of blue I drew in a random Comic that I became pretty proud of. So I took it out just To make another picture. Hehe, Maybe I can use it as a new cover picture? Anyway if you're wronger why its an odd resolution and smaller than my other pictures its because I forgot to re-size my pencil layer!
I hope you like it I'm am trying out textures now. My dad said the funniest thing about this! I couldn't wait to show my firens But I hope they don't hurt Blue.
