Stock and Resources Updates Feb 2013Heading Into 2013
We are well on our way towards the warmer part of the year for those of us who live in the Northern Hemisphere, and whilst we shake off our winter blues and snow boots, our Southern Stockers have been wowing us with new beautiful stock and resources (whilst sweltering in the heat!)
The gallery cleanup is still going on, but with a reminder to be patient with us, we know its not easy but we have a very VERY big gallery and just a few people (mostly just Erin and myself) tackling the issue, but its not been forgotten or ignored. Erin and I are also very busy with home life as well
If you feel we've missed out on a sub category (sadly this is very likely right now as we concentrate our efforts on the most used/submitted to areas) please feel free to note us and point us in the right direction!

Why you feature stolen work?!?!Lately there seem to have been a few myths flying around in particular with regards to how we as Community Volunteers, give Daily Deviations. Many people seem to think that we sit at our desks in dark little rooms and let out evil laughter whilst we purposefully feature stolen work. The dark rooms and laughter - well I can't say yes or no on that one! But I can promise you it's not our intent to give exposure to people who have stolen work. I recently featured a piece of work that turned out to be stolen. However I went into extensive conversations with the artist before I featured it, and with added metadata and dates, it's difficult to know where to draw the line. I've given people the benefit of the doubt before - and it's worked out nicely as their work has been legitimate. Below are some comments I have seen being thrown around the past few days - and hopefully an attempt to bust the myth. Why you feature stolen work?!?!2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This

Your Personal Stock TermsThe Language You Use Is Very ImportantYour Personal Stock Terms5 years ago in Personal More Like This
deviantART has a large and devoted stock resource community and we really do appreciate their presence and their generosity with the community.
I do have something very important I'd like to mention for everyone who offers some sort of stock resource so hopefully those who read my journal will help to disseminate the information and spread it around to those who might not otherwise read it.
Officially deviantART maintains only one "automatic" restriction and that is "No Commercial Use" and that particular restriction can easily be overridden by the actual stock provider.
We only ask a few things from you in return.
Your terms or restrictions should b
A Note on Daily Deviation FeaturesAt ten features into my tenure as Community Volunteer for Abstract & Surreal Photography I am noticing a certain trend in response to abstract and surreal Daily Deviations. I shall address some of the recurring themes here, and hopefully answer some questions along the way. At this point I would like to mention that I am talking about a small and vocal minority, and I sincerely thank the overwhelming majority for supporting the featured artists and their work. You're what makes this site such a great community.A Note on Daily Deviation Features2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
With that said, let's get to the troublesome themes I am coming across.
The "This is crap!" Argument
As an observer and a critic, you're entitled to think that something isn't very good. However, exclaiming as such on the comments of a piece of work that an artist has spent time and energy creating is not only counter-productive, but rude and insulting, especially if it's not followed up with some advice about how you think they could make their
Need references?Although drawing and painting "from life" is way much more effective and efficient than drawing from photos (I'll be writting a separate journal about this soon, no worries), you simply can't have a person to model for you every time you want to create something. And there are situations when you don't exactly know how to place that bloody hand or if the foot is drawn correctly. Similiar issues can happen with architecture, perspective... with everything you draw. Then, when you look for help, you may stumble upon Stock gallery and you find awesome things. Remember about crediting the used stock directly!Need references?2 years ago in Art Features More Like This

CONTEST EXTENDED A WEEK*EDIT* Woohoo!! We have some entries!!CONTEST EXTENDED A WEEK9 months ago in Personal More Like This
Hello everyone!! It's been a while since I last held a stock challenge for stock artists but in the spirit of the new year here you go.
What if a mirror isn't all it seems. What if your reflection wants to keep you on your side? What if you are able to climb through a mirror but your reflection keeps standing in front of you, blocking your way? You try to touch the mirror without your reflection touching the same place. Maybe the cold surface isn't the mirror you're touching, but the cold flesh of your doppelganger, pushing back, keeping you on your side.
The theme is 'Through the Mirror'

Artist Interviews - Conzpiracy:iconConzpiracy: conzpiracy Is the lair of the rather talented Dean, better known as Conz. In between writing articles, working for clients and doing his own art he kindly agreed to answer some questions about stock for us.Artist Interviews - Conzpiracy3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
For those who might not know you already, can you share a little bit of Conzpiracy history? What made you first get into the art scene and who were you most influenced by in your early years, and has that changed/evolved?
Prior to working with digital, I used to draw all the time - mainly using inks and biro. I was influenced by the works of Clive Barker, comic books, horror movies, virtuoso's like Giger and the illustrators of 2000AD.
I started working freelance at 15, literally my first year of Photoshop practice - producing event flyers for Drum n Bass events in my area. My work was rubbish and I was getting paid peanuts, but it put me in good stead to learn people skills and the pressures of working to deadline.

Making Yourself Available
We can't stress this enough. Stock is not something you can post in your gallery then ignore unless your stock is completely unrestricted and no further contact with you is necessary.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CONTACT DETAILS ARE UP TO DATE AND EASY TO FIND!
Erin, Jade and I have had a LOT of frustrated artists messaging us recently about the fact that they are simply unable to get in contact with stock providers who require notification of use or commercial information.
Its unfair to place restrictions on your stock then not uphold your end of the bargain by not responding to requests from artists who are following your rules by contactin

Our interviewees today are faestock, Tasastock, and SenshiStock.
1. Is an expensive camera necessary?
Tasastock says, "No, but they are damned fun to play with! You can get a decent camera for a decent price nowadays that will shoot good quality images in the right conditions. Obviously they're not good for low-light or anything capturing movement, but if you handle them right you can make do with an ordinary camera, I've known plenty of people to do so."
SenshiStock says, "I don't know much about cameras, but the best photographs you can take are always going to be the ones that

projecteducate is one of our main contact points for all the artists of DeviantArt to come together and educate themselves about a multitude of art related subjects, from techniques and hints and tips to DA specific information and help. By providing a central location the volunteer team can reach out further into their communities to guide and help more artists than ever before.
But we can't do it alone!
Help and support from as many community members as possible is essential to ensure success, and this is obviously where YOU come in!
Stock and Resources is hosting another Project Educate week this year between the 15th and 21st September, and its really not that far away, and we are looking for your help
As a guide here are journals from our 2012 Project Educate week -

Muses of the MastersBeautiful, captivating, inspiring, complicated and often misunderstood - the women who became muses for their masters had more in common with the artists who painted them than might be seen on first glance.Muses of the Masters2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
These women from all walks of life often reviled and looked down on in their own time, have transcended their humble beginnings through canvas and paint to inspire and utterly captivate their audiences.

Elizabeth Siddal 1860 Dante Gabriel Rossetti
Born in 1829 Lizzie was first "discovered" by the artist Walter Deverell in 1849 who had close associations with Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Less than 2 years later, Lizzie was sitting almost exclusively for the jealous Rossetti.
Lizzie's life with the artists of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was turbulent and complicated, much like her relationship with Rossetti who d

Becoming a Verified Safe Stock Resource ProviderEarlier we brought up the importance of providing valid and safe resources as stock providers. We are the front lines, so to speak, on ensuring the quality and validity of our resources. We mentioned in our last blog (which you can read below) about a way to become verified safe stock providers. There was a lot of positive feedback on the idea. The question was how to prevent those who would abuse a stamp from using it.Becoming a Verified Safe Stock Resource Provider2 years ago in Personal More Like This
hyenacub-stock suggested creating an alternate group that only certain members can join as a method for preventing the "posers." EveLivesey suggested the name "Safe Stock" for the project. So, by combining the two ideas, we now have a sister group called Safe-Stock-Resources. I've spent some time this evening fleshing out the group page, and I believe that it's a good start.
Safe-Stock-Resources can be that marker, the seal of approval, on great and trustworthy stock resources. If you would like to become a part of it, let me know, and I will send yo

I would like to thank HelenaRothStock again for the premium membership. Thank you to everyone who's so kindly featured my work in the past year.
This year has been a year of transitions for me, many of them good. It's been a good first year of stocking, full of surprises (the daily deviation back in the spring, thanks again to PirateLotus-Stock), lessons (how not to set up my shooting area and more), and good memories (photobombs, brownies, and so much laughter).
My First Stock Image, Daily Deviation, and my Latest Stock
It is my pleasure to share with you the many beautiful and interesting works that people have used my stock in. I'm always excited whenever I get a notification, because it's always s
