Stock and Resources Updates Feb 2013Heading Into 2013
We are well on our way towards the warmer part of the year for those of us who live in the Northern Hemisphere, and whilst we shake off our winter blues and snow boots, our Southern Stockers have been wowing us with new beautiful stock and resources (whilst sweltering in the heat!)
The gallery cleanup is still going on, but with a reminder to be patient with us, we know its not easy but we have a very VERY big gallery and just a few people (mostly just Erin and myself) tackling the issue, but its not been forgotten or ignored. Erin and I are also very busy with home life as well
If you feel we've missed out on a sub category (sadly this is very likely right now as we concentrate our efforts on the most used/submitted to areas) please feel free to note us and point us in the right direction!

You've been a photomanipulator on DeviantART for some time now, what or who first influenced you in the art world, and how has that impacted your own work?
I've always had a keen interest in art and painting since very young, and I've always had a love for fantasy and fairytale themed images when I was painting and drawing, but my love for photo manipulation and digital art in general happened about 6 years ago when I came across a Photoshop magazine by coincidence. When I saw the amazing photographs were used to create such fantastic artworks I knew that it was exactly what I wanted to learn to do. Ever since then I worked hard o

ThankfulThursday 28th November 2013Thankful3 weeks ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I can not believe how quickly the end of November has come around whilst I've not been looking. So, yesterday was Thanksgiving in the USA, and even though the mark on the calendar only really means a special something to those of you who are American, a day of thankfulness spans the entire global community in the most simple expression of appreciation.
It goes without saying of course that we should appreciate the people around us every day, but it does no harm at all to stop for a moment on a particular day to send a loving message to people who touch your life, even if you've never met them face to face.
The advent of the internet has enabled us to find like minded people in every country in the world. People who fight on in the face of adversity, struggle but succeed, practice relentlessly to improve, share without a second thought the things they have learnt, and inspire with the simple desire to help others

Here is the first installment of what we hope is a bi monthly feature. We plan to feature a few of the stock artists that have been an influence and an inspiration to so many of us here on dA as well as some of the new up and coming stars you will be maniping soon. Through interviews and features we hope you get to know these artists a little better ans its just another way of spreading around some good ol' dA lovin to these deserving artists. In some ways stock artists are the hardest working artists because they truly in most cases do it all from costume design to production. They pick the sets, are the subjects, and most of the time even the photographer, and lets not forget they are the ones that pay for their costumes. They do put a lot of themselves into their art. Yes ART, making stock is an art all in itself.
Our first artist is :iconlindowyn-stock: lindowyn-stock Just going throu

You've been a stock provider on deviantART for quite a while now, what first got you interested in providing stock to the community?
When I first came to dA I was amazed at the contributions the stock providers made to the community. I felt selfish just taking without giving something back myself. I found I enjoyed stock as much if not more than I enjoyed doing full manipulations. I love detail, sometimes to a fault, and might spend a day or two on just one item.
There are a lot of artists who use your resources, when you are taking images, or organising new stock to submit, do you look for any elements in particular like angles or lighting when choosing what would be the most useful, and does this reflect equally to when
Project Educate Stock & Resources DD CriteriaStock & Resources Daily Deviations. What We look for, and what you should look for as well!Project Educate Stock & Resources DD Criteria2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Its a regular question, and something that the other Community Volunteers get asked about as well. So during Project Educate Stock & Resources week I'm going to try and lay out some of the reasons behind our choices.
Stock & Resources Daily Deviations, and how they are judged by the Community.
Dan has already touched on this touchy subject in his "Potential" Article here - The Potential of Stock
There is something fundamentally different about stock & resources DD's compared to all the other DD's from all the other galleries.
Stock & Resources are NOT finished artworks to be viewed as an end product.
We can't stress this enough!!!
The Stock Artist/Provider/Creator has not submitted this work becasue they think its absolutely perfect and they want to show it off, they subm
Project Educate: Stock & Resources, Final WordThank You.Project Educate: Stock & Resources, Final Word2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Thanks for being part of an amazing week everyone! We appreciate all the support and love we’ve received from our articles.
Our mission was to ‘re-educate’ on some issues and to serve a reminder to folks about guidelines that need to be followed! Hopefully you guys now have a clearer understanding of the issues mentioned.
Let’s hope so anyway!
We also hope you enjoyed our interviews with some amazing artists and stockers! we had fun doing those!
We wrote a few special articles because Project Educate allows us to get even closer with you guys and reach a wider audience. The Potential Article was to show you guys what’s so great about stock! and to help open your mind and raise awareness of what stock is really about and why stock is essential to so many artists. We also highlighted other essential topics like, atmosphere and lighting, adequately crediting your resources, keywords, categories, and miscats.

Born in 1829 Lizzie was first "discovered" by the artist Walter Deverell in 1849 who had close associations with Dante Gabriel Rossetti. Less than 2 years later, Lizzie was sitting almost exclusively for the jealous Rossetti.
Lizzie's life with the artists of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood was turbulent and complicated, much like her relationship with Rossetti who d

Texture Your World ContestTell us the story of your world in textures!Texture Your World Contest11 months ago in Art Features More Like This
We are surrounded 24 hours a day by objects that have texture, they may be smooth or bobbly, old or new, bold, bright, shiny or dull. You might see a texture every day and never notice it until you start looking. Do you sit at a desk that's textured, or pass an interesting tree on the way to work or school?
We want you, in the form of a triptych (thats 3 images forming a larger image see example here - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triptych ) to tell us the story of your textured world. Each individual texture should stand on its own, both as a useful resource and as a cohesive part of the whole story. What story you tell through your texture triptych is up to you - but they must be textures that tell a story of your world in some way.
There are 3 categories for this contest, each of which you can submit to twice.
These are textures created digitally by

Gallery Description Updates
Yesterday saw the release of the new "stashy" submit page to A/B beta testers hailing the promotion and better definition of gallery descriptions aimed at improving, helping and preventing the age old problem of miscats (which everyone hates except the people who miscat in the first place)
As you can see from the previews the gallery selection area is now accompanied by examples and the description - which is where you come in. The stock and resources gallery has seen a LOT of changes over the years making the range of descriptions for individual sub categories quite a mixed bag!
We are looking for thoughts and suggestions for updating the ENTIRE set of galley descriptions across the board, and if stock and resources aren't your thing but you want to g
Stock and Resources - Referencing LifeSince men and women first learnt to use charcoal and stones to make marks on rocks in caves they have been obsessed with capturing what they see around them.Stock and Resources - Referencing Life1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
"Study for the Libyan Sibyl" by Michelangelo
The human form in all its odd, beautiful, exotic, strangeness has been for many artists their Achilles heel. Without references to guide our hand, to delight the eye and inspire the imagination - artwork would remain as cave paintings warning people not to enter in case of bears.
"Vitruve Luc Viatour" by Da Vinci
“There are three classes of people: those who see. Those who see when they are shown. Those who do not see.”
Leonardo Da Vinci
Each artist depicts what they see in their own unique way. Some try to emulate and some forge their own path, but no matter how you are inspired or what media you use to create your work - remember the lessons of other painters who came before.
The them and us mentalityThe "Them versus "Us" MentalityThe them and us mentality7 months ago in Personal More Like This
The "them" and "us" mentality and how it negatively impacts us all
Its one of those things that unerringly pops its head up month on month, and its something that is frustrating, often hurtful and hard to read about. Let me explain some of my thoughts.. (warning I have a lot of thoughts I want to put down)
1. a person who voluntarily offers himself or herself for a service or undertaking.
2. a person who performs a service willingly and without pay.
We all say that when we see another user on the site with a volunteers title or a staff symbol, or whatever it is that marks them out as "different" something fundamental changes in our attitude.
Perhaps its envy, or jealousy or hate. Perhaps its simply respect and admiration and pride.
I would honestly LOVE it if it was the second set of emotions but I'm not going delude myself

What were your first artistic influences, and did they have a hand in the development of your resources?
My dad majored in art history, and back when he was in school in the dark ages, they had hardback textbooks, so he actually kept them. I used to look at them, especially his Rembrandt book. Rembrandt is still my favorite painter. I don't think that consciously influences my stock, but maybe on a more sub-conscious level...I don't much like modern themes; I tend to want to do stuff like pirates and Renaissance costumes when I shoot model stock. Olden timey stuff.
Whats one of the most rewarding aspects for you as a resource provider?
Probably the same thing that it is for most stockers: seeing the amazing things people do w
