**Some of you have asked if I collect quotes. The answer is I am a quote-a-holic haha. I love to find the perfect quote for my images and often times I make an image to fit a quote. Here is a list of some of my faves. I also have other lists in my journal entries

Initial Release of the Motion Book ToolIn April of last year, we announced a partnership between deviantART and Madefire, bringing Madefire's signature Motion Books to deviantART and introducing a new form of storytelling to the world's largest art community.Initial Release of the Motion Book Tool10 months ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
We also announced that Madefire's professional-grade Motion Book Tool would be brought to deviantART—giving deviants the opportunity to turn imagination into a visual, auditory, and literary masterpiece, and showcase their art alongside some of the industry’s greatest creators.
After months of development and testing, we are excited to announce that the gradual release of the Motion Book Tool has begun, and you're (very likely) among the first to gain access. Having access to the Tool means you can create dynamic Motion Books just like the pros, and publish them directly from your deviantART account!

Tutorial Showcase #13DeviantART is a great place to find not only art but also some awesome tutorials. It doesn't matter if you are interested in photo manipulation or writing, usually there is a tutorial for that. But at the same time there are so many great tutorials outside of deviantART and most deviantART users might never find them unless someone shows these tutorials to them. So I'm happy to introduce you a new journal series called "Tutorial Showcase" which features some awesome tutorials outside of deviantART. System is pretty simple. Every showcase journal showcases five tutorials from a specific category and this category changes with every new journal. There's no special placement, all of them are equal. So here we go!Tutorial Showcase #131 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Theme for this time is:
This first tutorial doesn't specifically teach you only one object but rather how to start with pixel art and some of the pixel art history with it as well. It is a really detailed tutorial and

How To get PublishedOr be Satisfied when You Aren'tHow To get Published1 year ago in Literature Features More Like This
A Beginner's Guide
Poetry publication is awash with literary magazines, internet journals, print-on-demand presses, vanity presses, indie presses, and major publication houses. So many options! It's a lot to navigate. But before we delve into the 'How-To's,' it's important to understand the 'Why.'
I'm talking about the the Big Why, the biggest WHY after 'Why write poetry?' Which is, of course, 'Why are you publishing your poetry?'
"BECAUSE!" I hear you shouting.
But that's not the best answer. You'll be happier, or at least more content with the results of the following advice if you understand your motivations behind the urge to publish. What specifically do you hope to achieve?
How to Succeed in Poetry Without Really Trying
If, for example, you want your poems out in the world, in a place people might read them; if you want to be able to say that you're a published poet; if you're not feeling great a
PE: Introduction to the Digital Art categoriesHi! Welcome to the Digital Art categories central! The following article is intended to be a quick guide on the Digital Art categories to get you started, most of the descriptions included here came from past Project Educate articles (so thanks for all the current and past CVs for their indirect help :P) and will include links to more articles if you want a more deep insight of said category, as well as a list of CVs you can send your DD suggestions to. 4 Kinds of StorytellingHere's an old journal from 2010 about storytelling. Because I have a lot more readers these days, I think I'm going to start reposting some of my earlier posts for my newer audience. So for you old timers, feel free to skip.4 Kinds of Storytelling1 year ago in Personal More Like This
In full disclosure, I slightly edited this journal to make it a little more balanced (while also fixing a ton of typos).
I feel like the word "storytelling" gets thrown around a lot in our industry. Yet when I look out there at some comics, I don't always see a lot of evidence for it.
It feels like people in comics pros--myself included--often use the word only because we feel like we're supposed to. Over the years enough professionals have been accused of being poor storytellers to the degree that everyone is now afraid of being a pinup artist as opposed to a bona fide storyteller. But it's not enough just to claim you're a storyteller.
Most people reading this probably h
5 Ways to Avoid Being DiminishedThere's a discussion brewing in comics about artists being more diminished as of late--that readers, reviewers, and publishers are focusing too much on writers rather than the artists who draw the book. I agree it's happening, but I'm not sure it's worth sounding an alarm over. I never felt diminished, but maybe I'm part of the exception. Maybe it's because I'm an artist and a writer.5 Ways to Avoid Being Diminished10 months ago in Personal More Like This
Either way, I do have a few thoughts on what artists can do to pull themselves out from under the rug.
1. DON'T DRAW LIKE A COG.
If you conform to a "house style", then you're at higher risk of being treated like an interchangeable cog in the comics machine. Yes, you're more likely to get consistent work, but you won't stand out as much. Therefor you'll be sought after less by big name writers, you're less likely to make a lasting impression on reviewers and readers, and you'll have a harder time getting raises (12 others draw like you and for less money).
I also suggests inking yourself if it helps. Penc

Happy spirit day, everyone! For those of you who don't know, spirit day is an annual day every year on October 19th where people wear purple to support the LGBTQ community! Although it was only officially started 2 years ago, it has been a great time to show off your pride and support. It was founded by a Canadian teenager named Brittany McMillan in her attempts to end LGBTQ bullying.
Spirit Day this year means a lot to me. Sure, I celebrated the last two years, as well, but this is the first year that I can officially say that I am celebrating it as "myself". It's been almost a year now since I came out to my family (the reality of it was that they basically knew all along and never wanted to approach me about it because they saw

Not because of copyright. I understand that when you post something on the internet, you're posting it for everyone to look at, and it's going to get shared around. But the comped-up piece of shit you see above (minus my commentary) is all over the internet - it's far more widely distributed than my original version. Back when I used to read my messages here and on Fetlife, I had 12-20 messages per day about stuff like this. Mostly it was people trying to be helpful and telling me "HEY! Look over here, there's another person who smeared shit all over your art!" And it used to take me an hour every morning to cut and paste URLs into DMCA requests to get this kind of crap taken down.
But that's really only the tip of the emotional iceberg for me. About 1 in 10 times that I post a DMCA I'd get a message from the perso
