Contest is now CLOSED!
I will try to judge and reveal the results as soon as possible however, we currently have a problem with our new house (we haven't had any hot water or heating for over a week!) which is going to be worked on all this week so, with workmen in the house things are going to be rather hectic. Sorry for any inconvenience caused to those who have entered.
Thanks to the generosity of some lovely Deviants over the past couple of years since my last contest, I have saved up enough points to hold another baking contest!
I didn't mean to leave it so long between contests but moving house twice last year and now updating our new house means I have had very limited time here on DA of late.
To bake ANY of my recipes, sweet or savory! I have recipes for cookies, cakes, truffles, meringues, cheesecake and more!
There will be three winners. Overall best b
Food Photography - back to basicsFood is a necessity for daily life and good health (the right kinds anyway), but food is also fast becoming something of an Art as well as many turn to their cameras once a mammoth baking session is over and capture the delightful dishes in attractive and alluring ways. Since the beginnings of Still Life Photography, food has been a subject and whilst the topic has remained the same - methods, equipment and ease have changed in varying degrees across the years. Food Photography is still a genre that is vastly overlooked and majorly underrated in the art world.Food Photography - back to basics3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
It all began with Still Life Paintings back in the 17th Century. They were as far from commercial as a style could get and certainly weren't created with selling in mind. However the skill and main aspects that realism painters took back in the 17th Century are kept close to the hearts of Food Photographers today as they grip onto Realism, effects of light, composition and arrangement. Props have always been an important part of
Ten Tips for Photographing Food1) Set the Table...Ten Tips for Photographing Food3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
In the image above, claremanson not only photographs something that looks enticingly delicious and creative, but she has additionally set the scene. She's made up the 'table' so to speak, so that it compliments and even enhances the Food that she's photographing. Looking carefully at your setting is a fantastic way of making your Food look good and unique. It's cheap too, just look at using glasses, sometimes with liquid in them, colourful tablecloths, napkins or any other items that might suit your image. Within cookery books these days, images that 'set the scene' are becoming increasingly more popular and widely used.
2) Play with your Food...
Here, LADYW has not just made a 'salad' or an arrangement of food. She's looked carefully at how she can arrange her food in the most creative and complimentary way. Using shapes and colour to make something look good

If you are german you can find the original recipe here.
125g Butter 100g Sugar200g Flour (no self-rising thing)1 Egg1 Tsp Baking powder
Strawberries (~500g)1 Package Tortenguß/Glaze500g Cream 1 Package Sahnesteif/Cream stiffener 2 Packages Vanilla sugar
1. Mix the first five ingredients and knead them until you get a shortcrust dough. Place it in the fridge for at least 30 minutes.
2.You have to bake two cake bases. Line a springform tin (26 cm) with baking paper and fill the bottom with 3/4 of the dought. Add the rest to a smaller springform tin. This one doesn't need to be lined with baking paper as you need it in small pieces anyway.
The original recipe says to use 1/3 and 2/3 for them, but the 1/3 was too much for me. Didn't use it all for the cake, so next time I would make

The essentials of Macro photography.Hi, deviants! This week is Community week, and I am giving my best to introduce some essential tips concerning macro photography. The essentials of Macro photography.3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
But first of all: What is macro photography?
Macro photography - what is it about?
Wikipedia tells us things like "extreme close-up photography, usually of very small subjects, in which the size of the subject in the photograph is greater than life size" (Source: Wikipedia.org)
But is that really all that matters? It is a common fact that many people believe that macro photography is photography which refers to life size
MTT species infoIMPORTANT UPDATE.MTT species info4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Wow. This got out of hand really fast. All of a sudden I have a ton of people making a ton of MTT characters all at once, popping out one right after the other. I really did not want it to turn out this way, these rules were meant to try and cut down on the amount of new MTTs being made, but that didn't work out like I wanted it to at all. Worked quite the opposite. So I'm sorry to say this, but the MTTs are now a closed species until further notice. Only way to get one from now on are adoption contests, which I will be hosting more often. Everyone who has already gotten permission for however many MTTs they asked of me, can still make theirs. Going back on my word like that would be lame. Again, I'm sorry, but I don't want to just wait until the fad blows over. The MTT species will stay closed for a while, but I am not sure how long exactly. Maybe a few months, maybe forever.
And I want to stress this is not because of any one certain person, so anyone

When you make a new Journal, look to your right. Over there is where you select what Journal Skins from your installed collection you will use. The default is Deviant Green. Right by there is another square with what appears to be an eye that is labeled "Browse Skins." Click that, and you can look through DevaintART's Journal Skins category for ones you might like and can install to use later to ensure that these are for Free use--anyone can use it--, and not Private use-- only a particular person can use--). HOWEVER, you can only use a Journal Skin besides the default if you are a paid Premium Member, Senior Member, or if a company has sponsored free Journal Skins (which happens about once or twice a year) for a short time. You can also make or customize your own Journal Skin using CSS (specific coding), but since most people do not know how, I asked firstfear to make some templates in 2012.

What do you mean by polymer clay "GLAZE"
-Thankfully the wonderful AJGlass pointed out that ceramic glazes need to be fired in a kiln. Let me just say polymer clay glaze does NOT have to be fired. The glazes used in polymer clay are more like varnish for a wooden floor or a desk. You just coat it on and let it air dry. Ceramic glazes and polymer clay glazes are VERY DIFFERENT!

she wrote to me on Facebook - and she's playing stupid. If anyone remembers what Fagarazzi looks like - and wants to see the pic she has posted under Rossen site (which she probably has taken down by now - along with any mention of coming from Croatia rather than Paris as she has been telling everyone) let me know by note and i can email you a copy so you can see.

1. Saving your .psd with all layers hidden makes a smaller file compared to saving it with all layers visible.
2. You can use the Crop Tool to quickly increase the canvas size of an image by holding down Ctrl + Alt whilst dragging the Crop Tool outside the current canvas.
3. If you want to see only one of your layers at a time, hold down Alt whilst clicking the eye icon of the layer. (do it again to show all layers again)
4. Holding down Alt while in a dialog box turns the Cancel button into a Reset button, so you can reset the values back to default.
5. If you want to just quickly check a very heavy .psd file, you can hold down Shift + Alt while clicking the Open button. This way Photoshop will open a flattened version of the file.
6. You can change the gray background that surrounds your image with the Paint Bucket Tool, just hold down Shift and make click on the background.
7. Not a very unknown tip, but if y

Winners will be announced on Monday~ >w< Hopefully I can decide during the weekend. This is definitely going to be hard to decide. @ W @
Thanks everyone who participated~
This contest's theme is: POKEMON!
Do not include humans of any sort. The subject are Pokemon, not trainers or other humans in the Pokemon universe.
(Note: No humans means no humans of any sort. Examples: Pokemon who are canonically humanoid like most fighting types are fine, but no humans dressing as pokemon or pokemon turned into humans or any other sort of hybrid. This also means that trainers can only be referenced in a story if your entry is a written story. DO NOT HAVE ANY HUMANS AS A CENTRAL ROLE. ONLY HAVE THEM MENTIONED IF YOU NEED TO.)

Syn's Dithering TutorialWhat is dithering?Syn's Dithering Tutorial2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Dithering is a pixel art process used to blend blocks of colour together or help apply a texture to a pixelled surface. Within emoticons it is most commonly used when making pixelled backgrounds, however it can be used in a number of other areas, e.g. massive emote bases, pixel objects etc. In this tutorial, we will focus on how 2 colours can be blended with dithering.
To break dithering down into simple terms, it is achieved by simply taking the colours from the two blocks of colour and placing individual pixels of each on the opposite side. This creates a region where the two colours merge together to create a more blended colour transition instead of a clear line between the two.
Dithering can seem like a complex process, but it's really not. Once you get the basic idea and technique, it's just all about practice and over time you'll learn how to apply it to a number of different situations. There are many dithering styles which can be

How to determine what you should charge for your work
In light of the absolutely horrendous commission page DA started up which encourages artists to sell their work for literally pennies, let me talk about pricing artwork. Or more specifically, how I price my work.
This...guide? Advice? Thing? Highlights what I've learned about pricing throughout the last few years. I do not touch on the subject of beginner pricing, simply because there are no set guidelines for that and beginner pricing usually ends up being extremely subjective. This guide assumes that the reader is somewhat experienced in their craft and is looking for pointers on pricing. However I still highly encourage beginners to read! This is what pricing should be like, not mere pennies for hours upon hours of work. This also focuses on crafts and sewing but a lot of it is s

So I have been thinking of doing a few articles apart from feature articles to link some useful resources for artists and this is the first one of these. While this is a mini one, it's helped me a lot on several occassions.
Sometimes it gets confusing to decide which colours to choose. "'Should I go with a turquoise and a gold for the face? What about the room? I was going for a chic cool modern palette which is minimalistic!" Surely, a lot of us have gone through those decisive moments. Below are some colour scheme tools that would help you with your colour scheme choices. Click the titles or the links in asterisk to go to the following sites.
