SMASH! wouldn’t be the same without our Themed Art Competition, now would it? So step right up, get your thinking caps on and get that creative spark on fire! This year we want to see your imaginations run wild and take our lovable mascots to places they’ve never been. This year’s theme is…
Did Cyrus and Skadi grow up reading fairy tales like we did? Well, they’ve discovered a few Grimm tales and want to export some of them to their home planet. Help them illustrate these tales for their people and work them into one! Do what you will with the fairytale – reverse it, twist it, flip it on its head. As long as our sibling mascots are involved (and that we can tell it’s a fairytale), let the magic come alive!
To be announced. Watch this space for wishing stars!

PLEASE READ THIS!
I will say this once, and once alone. You are to follow these rules, or I will cut this whole thing off. I'm already starting to get nervous with these guys being shelled out to people that aren't even taking the time to read my rules, or do a good job on this.
I want to share my species, but they are special to me, ESPECIALLY my Furdragons! My FURSONA is of this species, and I want to ensure that each one made in this time period is well thought out, and owned by people that will take good care of them. Because if you make one, and don't draw it ever again, I will not allow you to have it anymore, and I will make you change the character to something else.
Do not reference off my artwork.... please. That defeats the purpose of you drawing your own characters of the species... I even offered to do free sketches of poses or redlines for you guys if you needed help. I'm not doing this to be mean, I just want to make sure you can actually draw them
MTT species infoIMPORTANT UPDATE.MTT species info4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Wow. This got out of hand really fast. All of a sudden I have a ton of people making a ton of MTT characters all at once, popping out one right after the other. I really did not want it to turn out this way, these rules were meant to try and cut down on the amount of new MTTs being made, but that didn't work out like I wanted it to at all. Worked quite the opposite. So I'm sorry to say this, but the MTTs are now a closed species until further notice. Only way to get one from now on are adoption contests, which I will be hosting more often. Everyone who has already gotten permission for however many MTTs they asked of me, can still make theirs. Going back on my word like that would be lame. Again, I'm sorry, but I don't want to just wait until the fad blows over. The MTT species will stay closed for a while, but I am not sure how long exactly. Maybe a few months, maybe forever.
And I want to stress this is not because of any one certain person, so anyone

before that you should look up some informations
you probably noticed that in my work it is often hard to distinguish if im using a zbrush model or just painined it all in photoshop
reason for that is simple.
my realism rendering is greatly based on 3 d rendering processes.
by this i mean as i learned 3d i became aware of the stuff we usually visually take for granted.
qualities of material, importance of reflectivity, ambient occlusion, and subsurface scattering.
to any 3d artist these are everyday terms, while 2d artists usually paint them without often even being aware of wheat they are really doing
for instance , a 3d artist will at any given point use 2 types of shadows. cast shadows from a direct lightsource, and ambient occlusion shadows which naturally appear more intensively the closer planes of an object are together.
i can get into this and make it a long discussion , but easier w

I Was Not Ready For This
What did I just sign myself up for?
I had never made, drawn, written, or created a book in my life, so this was all pretty foreign to me. I had told Heavy Metal publishing I'd do it on my own dime. Reason was, this was my project.
Not that I can't cooperate or collaborate, but this time I wanted to create what I saw in my head, and not have a voice behind me telling me what to do and what not to do. Kevin Eastman, head of HM Pub, was incredibly generous in this decision and told me to lead the way, and I tried my damnest.
So I started with the obvious fundamentals. What is the story of LMS?
Now, as a whole, LMS's simple logline is incredibly simple. A man who gets framed for a crime he didn't commit, breaks out of prison and goes after those

passion into your profession. But there is a way of measuring your chances on being
able to get work and eventually sustain a living from it.
Accepting commissions or freelance for low payment won't help you. You can think any penny counts, but it will lower the worth of your work and damage the market.
How to measure that you are ready?
You probably have high goals, but they are usually not your first step. You must search out the clients who can be that first step. Often found in the card game industry, book cover illustrations and smaller game company's.
Look at the artwork shown by a company such as the card game company: Fantasy Flight games. Compare your skills with the average of their artworks. If it matches yours, you will have a chance. However, keep in mind that those artworks had been done in a limited timeframe, usually within 12 hour
Dumb Pixel CommissionsI figured I'd just go ahead and post a little journal for pixel commissions here because they're fast and fun to do... as well as cheap compared to many of my other works. I really enjoy doing pixels for others as well as for myself, so hey! Why not offer them up?Dumb Pixel Commissions1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Now, before I go on posting prices and examples, here's a few things you need to know when you commission me:
I take both points, and cash payments... as well as a few other methods from time to time. Payments will be up front, through the commissions widget once I slap a premi on this account, via PayPal or otherwise.
I have the right to decline, or cancel a commission and issue a refund at any time if I feel it is necessary. I also reserve the right to not issue a refund should the work have been completed and there is some sort of impossible dispute.
You may use the work that you have commissioned from me. Meaning you're

Since I get a lot of mails and comments that asks similar things, I have tried to put together a FAQ, since I am having a hard time replying to every one of them individually.
One thing you must understand though, is that art is different for everyone, so some of the things you will have to learn and discover for yourself. Unfortunately I do not have all the answers for you.
What's your job?
I am a freelance comic artist. Clients ask of me to draw: Cover art (CD/Film/Books), writing/pencilling/inking/colouring of comics and manga, game/film concept art, storyboards, character design, workshops, logo designs, mascot designs, TV host (comic/manga/japan/game related). I do both private and commercial commissions since about 2006. You can contact me for work at Mikikoponczeck@gmail.com or Mikiko_p

Prettify Your Bloom: Tips and TricksFractal Art WeekPrettify Your Bloom: Tips and Tricks3 days ago in Art Features More Like This
Hello! It's C-91 here and, after people asking me tips on how to make flowers with Apophysis, I decided to write this introduction guide for the Fractal Week. There might be more in future.
Live with it: crafting flowers with Apophysis isn't the most original thing ever, but at least we can try to approach to the technique in another way and try to make them different from the multitude of results that can be found here on DeviantArt.
First of all, check the two blooms tutorials by lindelokse, which are the starting point for this technique:
Before we start...
Just so you know, 2D flowers are generally more versatile and suitable for crazy experiments than 3D ones. You can use more variations and plugins on 2D flowers without messing the shape up (and they will still be as spectacular as 3D flowers).
Far OffI'm so far off from so many things in my life. I'm so far off from being where I want to be. I'm so far off from being who I want to be. I'm so far off from having my shit together, emotionally, physically, financially, and artistically. I'm so far off from finding the love of my life. I'm so far off from feeling mature enough to take care of children. I'm so far off from feeling mature enough to take care of myself. I'm so far off from liking who I am. I'm so far off from liking who's around me. And what scares me most about all of these things, is not how far away they are, but how close they really might be.Far Off2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Cities of the Future

What do you think your favorite city will look like in one hundred years?
Architect Rem Koolhaas has completed a “vertical city” complex in Rotterdam, bringing a new style of multi–purpose skyscrapers to the city skyline. Bennett Stein wrote about the new buildings for KCRW’s Design & Architecture blog, calling the creator “the Godzilla of architecture.”
Here’s an excerpt from Stein’s essay:
How to Report PeopleI've been notified about some art thief posting pictures from Google on to their gallery. There were comments complaining about this on their profile. Either nobody knows how to report them or the DA committee won't take action. How to Report People4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Just in case if you encounter something such as this, here's how you can report them:
1. Go to "Help and FAQ" from the DA drop-down menu that's beside the logo
2. Click "Contact the Help Desk". It's on the left side in bold.
3. So know it would tell you to send a note to them. For the category, click "Abuse Report" under "Copyright and Etiquette". What they mean by abuse report means is reporting on abusive and unacceptable behavior that goes AGAINST their policies. For example, stolen art.
4. Now write the report.*
*Don't forget to put a subject on it. They may not take it as seriously.

About Project Porkchop
The DeviantArt Experience can sometimes quickly become the quintessential example of that most frustrating problem: too much of a good thing. There just aren’t enough hours in the day to peruse the thousands of submissions and postings of artistic innovation, creativity and sheer beauty that are generated everyday.
So thank you for ProjectPorkchop!
Astralseed, an Icelandic deviant artist with a penchant for equines, including Quirlicorns (a breed of unicorns), has made our busy lives so much easier with ProjectPorkchop, a feature she started on her DeviantArt page. Project Porkchop’s fine eye for the best of the newly submitted artworks of virtually unknown artists, the incredible art th
How to: AnatomyHuman anatomy is, for sure, one of the hardest things to draw. But at the same time it's one of the most interesting things to draw, because... hey... we love making characters, and it's nice if they at least look a bit like a human being. I'm still far from perfect at drawing the human body, yet I've accumulated some very useful tips, tricks and websites. How to: Anatomy3 weeks ago in Art Features More Like This
Drawing from life
Drawing from life is awesome!
Look for life drawing classes in your environment, or if they're not available; ask your friends to pose for you. Go have a drink in the city when the weather is nice, and sketch people passing by. There's nowhere you learn more about human anatomy than by observing and sketching real people. There's only one downside to this; dynamic poses are tricky, as it's hard for any model to hold a difficult pose for a long time.
And no... drawing (nearly) naked people in a drawing class isn't awkward. I

And why has it generated such a success? Well, I guess it's mainly because he has wisely approached the controversial theme of the recognition of art as a valuable asset for today's society, yelding several examples of situations where employers clearly show they don't respect your work.
According to the article writer: "Graphic artists, illustrators, painters, etc., are skilled tradesmen. As such, to consider them as, or deal with them as, anything less than professionals fully deserving of your respect is both insulting and a bad reflection on you as a sane, reasonable person. In short, it makes you look like a twit."
I bet almost every artist has already faced a job offer where the payment will be something along the lines of a "free lunch", a mention in the work's cre
