Ten Tips for Photographing Food1) Set the Table...Ten Tips for Photographing Food2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
In the image above, claremanson not only photographs something that looks enticingly delicious and creative, but she has additionally set the scene. She's made up the 'table' so to speak, so that it compliments and even enhances the Food that she's photographing. Looking carefully at your setting is a fantastic way of making your Food look good and unique. It's cheap too, just look at using glasses, sometimes with liquid in them, colourful tablecloths, napkins or any other items that might suit your image. Within cookery books these days, images that 'set the scene' are becoming increasingly more popular and widely used.
2) Play with your Food...
Here, LADYW has not just made a 'salad' or an arrangement of food. She's looked carefully at how she can arrange her food in the most creative and complimentary way. Using shapes and colour to make something look good
Invisibility and the end of EarthHello and welcome to the newest round of: random musings of an astrophysicist.Invisibility and the end of Earth2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Invisibility is a popular ability in science fiction and fantasy. There is magical invisibility via spells, potions or cloaks. And there is technologically achieved invisibility in many forms. But if we were to ask the laws of physics, what would actually happen if we did turn invisible?
First, there are two ways to achieve true invisibility. Either light goes through you without any contact, or it goes around you.
And that's the problem. If light doesn't interact with you, then how do you see? No light falls into your eyes either, so you are blind. An interaction always works both ways. The world is getting no visual information that you are there, and in turn you get no information about the world.
But it is worse. If you were to turn perfectly invisible right now, you would pretty much explode and the particles that made up your body would fall into the Earth like little ghosts.

Dice Dragon Facebook Giveaway!Hey guys! Been a while since I last posted. Life has been rather busy with the baby, so I've not sculpted much since the last sale. It will take a bit for me to get enough for another etsy sale... I'm guessing I'll have them more like once a month from now on, if I manage my time really well. I like to have close to 20 or so items for the sales, and I'm not really close to that at all yetDice Dragon Facebook Giveaway!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Anyway! To the real point of this journal! I'm having a facebook giveaway to celebrate 10K watchers! Which is kind of funny because I surpassed that long ago here, unbeknownst to me for a quite some time. Holy crap there are a lot of you watching me! Over 25,000 now! That's...somewhat scary and neat and humbling all at once O_o
I wanted all my watchers here to have a chance at the facebook giveaway, so just head on over to my page: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Dragons-Beasties/171793226181832?ref=hl for the details. I AM limiting it to facebook directly, just easier to keep track of all the entr

Use your art to help spread awareness for this Vulnerable Species
The Polar Bear, the ice bear, an apex predator of the north arctic circle. The largest of all bear species, this bear is a mighty carnivore. But as the ice the bears so desperately depend on melts at an alarming rate, disaster spells out in the murky water. Rising temperatures cause ice to melt, diminishing the bear's home and chances at catching prey. When the ice melts completely, polar bears will meet extinction below the freezing waters. Their population number ranges between 25,000-20,000 distributed among the nineteen subspecies.
What is International Polar Bear Day?
International Polar Bear Day(IPBD) is day to celebrate and spread awareness for the Arctic's Polar Bear
Our goal is to fill DeviantArt with Polar Bear themed art on February 27th
New Basic Foal . . . and here's the pattern test for the new basic foal. It stands five and half inches high at printout size, compared to the ten inch adult mare. The construction is exactly the same as the bigger ponies, the main differences are in proportions. The foal has a smaller body, shorter, thicker legs, a shorter muzzle and a larger head. I might finish this one off as a Lyra, although the color is a little more greenish than teal.New Basic Foal2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Next up: the stallion pattern test, and the wings. There's going to be open, closed and foal wings.

Let's use this day to spread awareness for the bear of the arctic through art!.
A Bit About the Polar Bear
The Polar Bear is a bear of the arctic and only lives largely in the arctic circle.
This bear is the largest carnivore and largest species of bear.
The bears diet consists mainly of ringed seal.
Polar bear fur contains no pigment. The white is seen through the scattering and reflecting of light, much like snow or ice.
A Polar bear's skin is black, causing them to overheat when running for long periods of time.
A male bear is called a boar, while a female is called a sow.
Polar bears can swim for several hours at a time
Polar bears can run up to a surprising 25 miles per hour
How to Mark Up Your PoniesI want to preface this by saying I link to a lot of BabyLondonStar's tutorials in this post. I was very sad to see that she'd closed down her DA account. She inspired me to start designing patterns in the first place. I miss her and hope that she's doing well where ever she is now.How to Mark Up Your Ponies3 years ago in Personal More Like This
People often ask me how to do eyes and other decorations on plush ponies (like maybe on their flanks? ). I don't have a huge amount of experience decorating ponies, but know some about working with fabric and I've watched a lot of tutorials go past in my time on DA. So, here's the best advice I could cobble together.
You have lots of choices for the general technique. Read through all of them and think about what supplies you have or will need and what skills you already know before you decide on what you want to try. I've listed techniques below in no particular order.
1) You can use iron on t-shirt transfers (see BabyLondonStar's tutorial: ).
2) You can use paint pens. Th

Tutorial: How to machine stitch heads onto bodiesTutorial time! This is another basic tutorial that will show you how to machine stitch a plush's head onto its body. Please be aware that I can't teach anyone how to make patterns. I'm just putting together a few tips and tricks that will hopefully help someone.Tutorial: How to machine stitch heads onto bodies1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Sew your plush's body together, leaving the entire back open.
Sew your plush's head together, also leaving the back open.
Match the head to the body and pin. When making your pattern, make sure the circumference of the opening at the bottom of the head is equal to the circumference of the neck opening of the plush body.
Sew a straight line from one end to the other.
The plush's head is now attached!
You should now have a plush with the entire back open! All you have to do now is finish it!

Traditional Art Week continues! This article will give you a brief overview of most commonly used physical media techniques and their characteristics, featuring beautiful examples found all over DeviantArt and tutorials. I sincerely hope this will get you inspired to try something new and experiment, why not pick a tutorial and see what you learn! Don't forget, whilst techniques has their own regulations and principles, they still can be combined, you have to be no wizard (just a little creative) to find a new way to express yourself through them. Let's take a look
1. Drawing media
Drawing is one of the major forms of expression within the visual arts, and is generally concerned with the marking of lines and areas of tone onto paper. Traditional drawings were monochrome, or at least had little color, while modern colored-pencil drawings may a

Traditional and Digital art are both completely different mediums, able to create the same product. It is possible to paint a beautiful, watercolor-like painting digitally, as well as achieve the cleanliness and color options of a digital piece traditionally. Therefore, using one or the other to express ourselves creatively is, just like many things in life, just an option. People may have personal, sometimes even illogical reasons for using one or the other and that's fine. Today, however, I'm a cheerleader for the "traditional side", and I offer you 5 reasons to do it traditionally!
1. Oh the wonderful smell of art supplies > I'm not talking about the toxic smell that come painting techniques require, of course. Rather about the feeling you get when entering a huge art supply store, touching all those brand new pencils and tubes

It is with heavy hearts that we must inform you of the passing of our darling daughter, Alie. Her final days were fairly peaceful, sleeping much of the time but also able to watch some of the Winter Olympics and enjoy her favorite event, figure skating. Her final moments were peaceful with both parents by her bedside.
We have all been preparing for this day for the past several weeks, knowing it was coming far faster than we hoped. From the moment in December when the news came of her terminal illness, Alie has continually amazed us with her positive attitude and limitless spirit. We have all learned from her selfless approach to life, her giving nature, and her passion for the possibilities that life hold for all of us She was so thankful for all of the outreach shown to her by her friends and family and we share in that gratitude. Unfortunately she was just too weak to be able to a
