Have fun and happy Blackboxing!
OK, I have two sets of instructions for Blackbox - the short one and the loooong one. I am sure most people will read the short one, tho the long one is more detailed and safer. Here we go...
The short one
1) Dowload Blackbox for Windows. There are three clones: bb4w (http://www.bb4win.org), xoblite (http://www.desktopian.org/bb), and bblean (http://bb4win.sourceforge.net/bblean my personal favorite which I strongy recommend).
2) Create a folder under, say, c: named Blackbox. (clackbox). Unzip the con
tents of the zip file there. Subfolders are created automatica

How to install covergloobus on Ubuntu 12.04+The PPA for CoverGloobus hasn't been working since Ubuntu 11.10, but this doesn't mean you can't use it in newer versions. How to install covergloobus on Ubuntu 12.04+2 years ago in Personal More Like This
If you are using Ubuntu 12.04, 12.10, 13.04 or even Linux Mint 13 or 14 you can use CoverGlobus by downloading the .DEB package
This is version 1.7.3
Download DEB package for 32 bit system https://launchpad.net/~gloobus-dev/+archive/covergloobus/+files/covergloobus_1.7.3_i386.deb
Download DEB package for 64 bit system https://launchpad.net/~gloobus-dev/+archive/covergloobus/+files/covergloobus_1.7.3_amd64.deb
Installing themes is more easy now, just download them and put the folder in:
Right click on CoverGloobus >Configuration > click on the Theme tab and apply your new theme by choosing it from the list
I hope this will be helpful to all
Blackbox Tutorial - Part II: The PluginsOK, so u downloaded Blackbox, u ran ur fist session, u are happy switching styles - and then what? Most hardcore Linux Blackbox users will tell u there is nothing more - there should be nothing more. After all, Blackbox was created as a minimalistic shell. But u do want some buttons on the desktop, a clock, a system meter, perhaps, an audio player...Blackbox Tutorial - Part II: The Plugins10 years ago in Personal More Like This
This is where plugins come in. What started as a minimalistic shell with only two or three plugins, is now a different beast with over 60 plugins and more coming out each week. Plugins are basically little add-ons to the shell that offer many features - u take ur pick. Notice that Blackbox plugins are intended for Windows Blackbox clones only and do not work on other platforms or shells.
HOW TO LOAD PLUGINS
Very easy, if u use BBLean (which I strongly recommend). Right click on the desktop to bring up the menu and then click on Blackbox/Configuration/Plugins/Add Plugin. To load/unload pluggins, click on Blackbox/Configuration/Load/Unload.
Blackbox Tutorial - Part III: The StylesTHE STYLESBlackbox Tutorial - Part III: The Styles10 years ago in Personal More Like This
What makes Blackbox so irresistible, besides the fact that it skins every part of your desktop, including focused/unfocused windows (something that only Blackbox can do) is that there are actually over 5,000 styles (themes) for it available on the net - and this number is growing on a daily basis.
You see, Blackbox has a longer history as a Linux window manager, which means that when Blackbox for Windows appeared, at the middle of 2002, the *nix version was out for at least a couple of years and since the styles were interchangeable between the two platforms, there was already a plethora of themes to be used by the Windows users.
HOW TO IMPLEMENT STYLES
Usually, styles come in zip or text files. When zipped, the files usually contain the style file (a text file), a wallpaper (bmp, jpg, png, u name it), and/or a readme file for the credits, the fonts used, or other goodies. The text files are just the style files, without wallpapers and stuff. Sometimes they don't use the txt

I don't know about you, but I was always sick of the default windows font rendering, that's why I used GDI++ with Windows XP and GDIpp with Win7, until a few months ago GDIpp worked great, but then there where a lot of compatibility issues (Google Chrome/Firefox).
Now I found this http://www.mediafire.com/?8cnc6v7z7w4e647 on a chinese board http://bbs.themex.net/forumdisplay.php?f=88 (yeah yeah yeah, at least with google translate I could read something )
Works awesome and you can switch language, still a pretty shitty translation, but great tools to create configs and it runs as a service.
Check it out

Christmas Gift!!!Hi all!Christmas Gift!!!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
As previously announced, a brand new version of AwOken color is available! I added more than 100 new colored icons, so I think you will be pleased by the new additions!
Moreover, I packed them up also for AwOkenDark and AwOkenWhite iconsets, in order to get ready for the upcoming release! As you can see, the colored icons are the same as the default iconset, but the non-colored ones change according to the either dark or white colorization.
Here are the links:
Simply extract them, and place them in your ~/.icons directory.
If you feel brave, you can also try the customization script (in order to change forlders and even colorize the icons with whatever color you want).
Simply type this in your terminal window (after having done the previous step, i.e. moving the downloaded folders in your ~/.icons
LITESTEP!I HAVE FOUND YOU AGAIN IN THIS 64-BIT JUNGLE!!!!!!!! Oh how content I am to have litestep working on Win7.LITESTEP!5 years ago in Personal More Like This
Turns out all you really need to do is install LOSI 0.45 (or whatev the recent one is...) and then drag and drop the executable and .dll file in the 0.25 alpha build into the litestep directory. THEN (this is what I think was causing my woes) you need to download a little .exe file called setshell64: http://lsp.litestep.info/index.php?page=index;item=145
Voila! LS is working super now . Although I miss the windows 7 superbar and the fancy desktop fade (although if you get jdesk-0.75, you still get changing desktops, just not with the fancy fade effect).
I'm just happy that LS is working. Ahhhhhh I haven't had this much fun in a looooong time .
LiteStep and Windows 7 x64 : running them bothInstalling Litestep on Windows 7 x64LiteStep and Windows 7 x64 : running them both4 years ago in Personal More Like This
You need to download some required libraries in order for Litestep to run on
Windows. The libraries are called "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables"
otherwise known as vcredist.exe. What you will need are the 2005, 2005 SP1,
2008, 2008 SP1 to run properly (it is what the Litestep installer will be looking for)
If you currently develop with Microsoft Visual Studio (Express, Web Developer),
whichever version, your libraries should already be in place; though checking
for updates is a good idea. For good reason, I also recommend looking for
"Sec ATL" updates, they contain patches and fixes for possible security flaws within
Microsoft's code source.
I know it sounds funny, but you need to get the x86 (32-bit) and the x64 (64-bit)
installers for this reason: The Litestep program is by default, 32-bit architecture,
however the 64-bit update package (0.25 Alpha and greater) will be a patch after
you install Litestep. The 32-bit libra

As most of you already know, .rmskin is the new Rainmeter skin file format introduced in Rainmeter 1.2. This new format makes it much easier to distribute and install skins and suites. However, many of you have been facing problems with creating .rmskin files. Worry no more, I've been working on a guide on creating .rmskin files and it's finally done.
View it over at rainmeter.net.
Even your grandma will be able to create Rainmeter skin files now
I sincerely hope and suggest that skin authors take a look at that guide. If you have a question, leave a comment below.
P.S. Distribute your next skin/suite as a .rmskin or trolls will eat you..

How to (sort of) get Truetransparency on Win7A lot of people ask me how to make TrueTransparency play nice with Windows 7.How to (sort of) get Truetransparency on Win74 years ago in Personal More Like This
The short answer is: You can... well sort of.
Here are the general problems (I'm going to assume people with Win7 are on the 64-bit version, or Win7 x64).
1) Explorer windows are not skinned (or any 64-bit programs for that matter).
2) Explorer windows skin, but the toolbar is completely transparent.
First, you will need both TrueTransparency x86 and x64.
For your convenience, here is a zip with both (x64 can be hard to find): http://dl.dropbox.com/u/7100381/TrueTransparency.zip
To skin all windows, you will need to run both the TrueTransparency.exe in the TrueTransparency x64 AND TrueTransparency x86 folders.
At this point, all windows should be skinned (with the exclusion of "special" windows like Google chrome, Command Prompt, GIMP/Photoshop, Task Manager, etc.
You may notice that the explorer toolbar is completely transparent. There are two workarounds for this.
One involves removing the too
Icon customizer 0.1Windows 8.1 onlyIcon customizer 0.17 months ago in Personal More Like This
This is the first working version that actually works, it has no GUI whatsoever and it's experimental...
So if you want to try this out unzip the zip and put the Icons folder in C:\Windows\Resources.
Then Run Iconcustomizer.exe and you're ready to go!
Now open a cmd prompt as admin and run the following command:
After that you can install the included elementary(mod) theme with the following command:
To restore the default icons run the following command:
You can also create your own icon theme by making a new folder in C:\Windows\Resources\Icons, Make sure the folder name has no spaces in it.
After that you can copy your icon files inside the folder and apply your icons with:
Your icon pack does not need to include all icons you can also include just even one or two icons.
The program does not
Technique Used for the PaintingsSince there's been some request for the technique used, I figure I'd use the journal feature to go ahead and shareTechnique Used for the Paintings2 years ago in Personal More Like This
All the paint used is Acrylic, a mixture of just normal paint and glossy. I try not to use water during the actual process, but just spray water during the drying process in an attempt to prevent cracking and distortion (although sometimes quite unsuccessful..).
The tools I use: A cake frosting bag, scissors, an oil I made for cooking (really just a basic oil- I like it to be thicker than water so the paint doesn't go too crazy on the canvas), a needle and paint
The paint gets poured into the bag, depending on what look I'm going for will determine how (more shadows will mean lighter colors first and vice versa). Let it sit and settle, then cut the tip off the end and let the paint pour onto the canvas (each painting has a different "direction" of painting, it's really up to the person doing it). Once the bag is empty or the paint on the canvas is satisfying, I tilt
Call to fellow deviants!Hello everyone,Call to fellow deviants!6 months ago in Personal More Like This
I usually don't use dA journal to write about anything other than update on what I'm working on, but I have some important issues to address. As the Windows theming committee grows, it has been becoming harder and harder to control thief. As a result, I find myself constantly battling against thieves who shamefully steals my skin. What's even worse is that people are monetizing them for money through ad links or putting in dangerous adware through installation packs (aka skinpacks). Here is my theme, Acid, being used without my consent: http://techdhruv.com/fusion-skin-pack-for-windows-788-1/. It was posted by the deviant thedhruv. Like most skinpacks, the installer for this has adware and toolbars that the average user would not know how to avoid. The average skinpack from this person doesn't even give proper credit to where he has gotten
Neat little Windows 8/10 trickHi everyone,Neat little Windows 8/10 trick3 months ago in Personal More Like This
Just thought I share a little trick I came across on Windows 8 and Windows 10 when it comes to the Start Screen/Menu. Many people are probably aware that you can apply custom tiles to the Start Screen via tools such as OblyTile or Pin More. However, the problem with this is that it leaves some inconsistency between the start screen icon and the desktop icon of the app. At the same time, modifying your system is something that some people don't want to do. So here's a simple trick for making metro/modern style tiles without any system modification or the need to install an app. Here's is the result of this:
How is this possible? All it takes is a white 48x48 ico with a color outlining it:
Windows will automatically take the outline color and apply it to the tile. The downside to this is that there is only a handful of colors you can choose from and for some it may be harder to apply than OblyTile.
If people are interested, I am thinking about making an icon set specifically

Blackbox for 64-bit Windows? No problemHows it going, guys?Blackbox for 64-bit Windows? No problem3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Just posting this to let you guys know that the old bbLean's native 64 bit edition works best on modern (64 bit) Windows 7 operating systems. Makes sense, does it? Probably, but I didn't think of trying it at first, because it's pretty old build. So I thought I'd share my experience
Let me start from the beginning...
I was very sad at first to find out that bbLeanskin window skinning plugin didn't work well on my new PC.
I tried multiple flavors of blackbox and bbLeanskin plugins (such as BlackboxXZ and bbClean). Had success with none of them.
Until I fired up bbLean x64 edition today (you can get it here: http://bb4win.sourceforge.net/bblean/)
For some reason I had memories of this version only skinning the 64bit applications. So I was thinking of running ShellWM and bbLean 64 bit. I was wrong however, it skins all windows.
As I mentioned this is a very old variant of the blackbox shell. I haven't so far noticed any problems however.
Works like a charm.
