FlutterMac Part 1: Caught InsideIt was cool for a summer day at Sweet Apple Acres. Big Macintosh stopped his plowing for a moment to look up. A slow grin spread across his normal blank face as he watched the white fluffy clouds lazily roll across the sky. "Maybe Miss. Dash can do her job right every now an' again." He thought as he set his eyes forward and started pulling the plow once more.FlutterMac Part 1: Caught Inside2 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
felt great. The feel of the resistance that the earth provided, the sweat coating his body, and the strain on his muscles as he pulled the ground apart behind him. This is what he lived for. Every day, waking up as the sun rose over the mountains, enjoying a warm, hearty, bowl of oats, and then putting on his harness, which was now almost a part of him, and getting to work on the farm.
Macintosh stopped as he reached the end of the final row. Turning around to inspect his work he saw the fruits of his labor spread out behind him. Each row was straight as an arrow, the result of years of experience tilling the fields. The smell of

The snow crunched beneath their hooves as they slowly made their way around the lake. Light grey clouds hid direct sunlight from the earth and gave the landscape a flat appearance. A heavy wind blew across the lake, making the already frost air frigid. Fluttershy was tightly bundled up to protect herself from the cold. With two thick coats, a long woolen scarf wrapped tightly around her neck and rubber snow boots she was the epitome of warmth. In contrast Macintosh had a scarf and light gray sweater on, which stood out startlingly off his crimson coat.
It was like the flower of their relationship was thriving in Equestrias winter season. With Fluttershys animals gone into hibernation and Big Macintosh's minimal chore-work around the farm the two of them spent most of
FlutterMac Part 7: A Broken Hearts and Hooves DayThe bustling market street was noisy that day, not that the center of Ponyville wasn’t always loud with the sounds of various mares and stallions haggling over prices for their wares, but today it just seemed like everypony was trying to yell over each other. Big Macintosh didn’t mind though. If being bombarded with a little noise was the only price he had to pay to spend this afternoon with Fluttershy, he would gladly pay it. With winter slowly coming to an end, the various vendors of Ponyville were trying to sell off the last of their wares before the new produce was ripe for the coin making. This is why the market was so chaotic. Everything was being sold cheaper than normal.FlutterMac Part 7: A Broken Hearts and Hooves Day1 year ago in Short Stories More Like This
Fluttershy had asked for him to come along with her to the farmers market because he was better at dealing with some of the ruder merchants that they may encounter. While he didn’t mind being surrounded by the hustle and bustle of large groups of ponies, he much preferred the quiet and rustic

"Well maybe if you brushed your mane a little more often you wouldn't have so many knots." Fluttershy teased as she lightly tapped his head with her brush.
"There ain't no need to when applebuckin'." he grumbled as she resumed straightening out his unruly mane.
Once again it was Nightmare Night in Ponyville, not Fluttershy's favorite night of the year. It had always seemed so dark and scary to her even though she knew that the costumes and special effects were fake. They had spent the better part of the evening together at Fluttershy's cottage preparing for the night. The two had made plans for that night that Big Macintosh was to stay with her and help pass out candy to the trick-or-treaters; but at the last minute the Mayor had asked him to pull the hay wagon this year and, reluctantly, he had said yes. So rather than preparing for visitors they were preparing his costume for the night.
With his hair straightened out and his
FlutterMac Part 8: A Rainy AffairStanding alone upon the quiet porch of his farmhouse Macintosh watched as the sun rose over the horizon to bathe the land in its bright rays. The purple clouds decorating the mountain top giving birth to a new day. To the red farmer this was nothing new, he’d seen it a hundred times before, but that never made the sight any less beautiful. Once more he thought about how he needed to take a vacation to Canterlot one day and watch Princess Celestia raise the sun. But there was not time for a vacation now. Summer was fast approaching and that mean apple trees needed to be taken care of, and crops tended to.FlutterMac Part 8: A Rainy Affair4 months ago in Short Stories More Like This
Indeed, even today looked like it was going to be pretty strenuous after the long, relaxing winter break he had just taken. Based on the average number of pink blossoms that were sprouting on the tree branches already it seemed like the whole orchard was going to be flooded with apples. And more apples meant more work for the whole family. But it also meant more money was going t
What's Lost In SilenceThere she was. The most beautiful mare that he had ever lay his eyes on. She rarely visited the farm, but when she did the sun seemed to shine a little brighter and the birds sing a little louder. It was the way that she would brush her hair from her eyes when talking with Applejack, or when she raised a hoof to cover one of those beautiful, melodic giggles. What's Lost In Silence5 months ago in Short Stories More Like This
He remembered the first time he had seen her. Applejack had brought her to the farm during that whole mess with the Flim Flam Brothers. He hadn’t taken the time to truly notice any of his sister’s friends during the struggle to keep his farm but when he saw her, truly saw her, it was something he had never experienced before. A small, beautiful, smile on her face, and a mug of cider in her right hoof. Macintosh was left completely speechless, like his heart had jumped into his throat and was stopping any words from exiting his body.
So naturally the only logical thing to do was to pretend like
Hold Me Tight, Before I Fall Fluttershy’s feet glided across the dance floor nervously, her arms wrapped around the neck of the gentle giant that had brought her there. She kept her eyes down towards the floor, unable to look up at him still, even after months of dating she simply couldn’t bring herself to look into his soft emerald eyes for more than a moment.Hold Me Tight, Before I Fall7 months ago in Short Stories More Like This
From the day that Applejack had first introduced them on a blind date she has been very cautious around him. Even more so than she was with any other person she’d met in Ponyville. She never spoke more than a few words at a time to him and even when she did her voice was always so soft it was barely audible. He never seemed to mind though. He was a man of few words himself, preferring to let his actions speak for him.
Closing her eyes Fluttershy allowed him to lead her around in slow, steady circles, simultaneously wishing for the night to be over, and for it to never end.
FlutterMac Part 3: First Date NervesFluttershy paced the floor of Carousel Boutiques nervously, waiting for Big Macintosh to arrive. "Did he change his mind? What time is it? Oh what are we going to do? I've never been on a date before; what if I mess up?" Rarity watched as her friend walked around her store repeatedly, slightly amused by her nervous movements. "Relax darling you're going to be fine." she told her worrisome friend "Just try and remember everything that I told you."FlutterMac Part 3: First Date Nerves2 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
Fluttershy thought back to the previous day, when Rarity had told her what she should expect from a colt on a first date. "Now the first thing to look out for in a colt on the first date, Fluttershy dear, is that he pays complete attention to how you look. He simply must compliment you, because if a girl's gonna work to look her best he had better notice it." Fluttershy blankly stared at her friend trying to absorb all the information her friend was giving her. "If he's going to take you to a restaurant he simply must allow you to order what y
FlutterMac Part 2: A Place Close To The HeartA few days had passed ever since Big Macintosh had been trapped by the storm at Fluttershy's house and both of the ponies had been wrapped in their thoughts since that day. When Big Macintosh had arrived home the next morning Applejack had indeed been upset with him. "Big Macintosh Apple!! What the day do you think you're doin' showin up at the farm in tha mornin' when we was expectin' ya home last night?!" Applejack had said as she stormed up to him. "AJ you know that there was a storm last night. I got trapped at Fluttershy's house and stayed the night. There's no need ta get all mad; I'm here now." Applejacks eyes opened a little wider and she got less mad, she let out a vicious grin "Oh well then Big Macintosh, stayin' at tha cottage with Fluttershy. Hope you managed to keep to yourself." "Are you feeling better, Twilight Sparkle?" the Princess of the night asked.
"A little bit, Princess, thank you," Twilight allowed, taking a long sip from her glass of water before softly setting it back on the table.
At a glance, it appeared little had changed in the appearance of the group in the twenty minutes since Princess Luna had finished relating Twilight's mishap from the night before. However, closer inspection would reveal an empty plate that once held a sandwich in front of Big Macintosh and bowls of salad ranging from partially eaten to just a few leaves remaining at Fluttershy, Rarity, and Luna's places. As for the others, they had opted for refills for their glasses of water, except for Pinkie, whose face remained submerged in her bowl. Twilight was convinced that the pink pony was somehow breathing through her ears.
"So who wants to go next and tell us their side of what happened last night?" Twilight asked.

It had been a tough harvest this year. The elements had been harsh on their crops. First, the sun had refused to be obscured by the clouds of the weather patrol, causing almost everything on their farm to dry out and wither. Then, a dry brush fire had caught in the orchard and they had barely managed to save half of their trees. And to finish everything off, a malfunction in the weather factory had shot a storm their way, flooding out the smaller vegetable crops.
With just about everything needed to make money dead, the Apple family was holding on to their land and home by only the thinnest of threads. They had stocked some extra bits for emergency situations such as this, but between Applebloom's schooling and the repairs to the

The red stallion couldn't get away from his little sister fast enough. Big Macintosh could still taste the deliciously sweet apple on his tongue that was left over from the apple fritter. It was the Apple Family's Reunion, and the young adult colt couldn't be happier... or more overwhelmed.
He was happy to see Granny Smith with her friends and Apple Bloom chat away with Babs. Even though Applejack was in overdrive with the festivities, the filly couldn't be everywhere at once. So wherever Applejack wasn't at the ponies were having a fine time.
This was not Big Macintosh's first reunion, his last one was when he was just a small filly like Apple Bloom. But he was the same as he then, now. Walking around slowly, smiling kindly to each family member he saw, yet still too shy to have a conversation. It was odd, because even though there were other stallions his age, Big Macintosh was still as shy as ever. He wanted this reunion to be different, he wanted to step

All of this had started about a week ago; when he had decided to join in the Annual Running of the Leaves.
Summer had passed by without a hitch that year. The trees had grown their normal amounts of fruit and bucking them off had been just as much work as it ever was. Everything had been perfectly normal on the farm that year. Only one thing was different. Big Macintosh and Fluttershy's budding romance had been causing the two ponies to be spending an exceptional amount of time together.

The glow of a summer evening bloomed before Fluttershy's eyes as her bird choir struck up an effortless melody and the sweet sigh of a breeze drifted across the highest hill of Sweet Apple Acres. Fluttershy inhaled the scent of ripened apples that danced on the wind and let her jade eyes soak in the twilit scene before she turned them to the crimson stallion who sat beside her. She felt her cheeks flush as his apple green eyes gazed into hers; in them she could see all of her own contentment and sincerity. She peered deeper and also saw the uncertainty and fears which for so long had kept them from one another, and though these trepidations remained in him just as they did in her own heart, they were quelled by a trust that had been built over two years of shared joys and tears. At times, she still felt the earth drop from beneath her hooves when she allowed herself to think about how much she truly cared for him and how scary it was to give so much of her heart to somepony else. "Well, we've heard about Rarity, Twilight, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie Pie," Princess Luna said with an entertained smile as she skimmed over her notepad, "That just leaves Fluttershy and Applejack." She looked up across the table to the only stallion present with them. "Big Macintosh, would you be so kind to give your account so we can finish this delightful narrative?"
"Delightful for you, maybe," Dash muttered under her breath, earning her a silencing glare from Twilight.

Rarity inhaled deeply, letting the pleasant aroma of her drink fill her nostrils. The snifter glass gently shifted about, buoyed by her magical aura, and its burgundy contents swirled along the transparent walls. She tipped the glass to her lips, gracefully sipping its contents in a way that only years of cultured drinking could imbue. A satisfied smile crossed her lips as the cognac warmed her throat as it drained to her stomach. She was almost finished with her third glass of the night, which would put her just at her tolerance level for this particular beverage; such a shame that her friends didn't know their own tolerances.
At that thought, she looked about the bar from her seat in the corner booth. While she wasn't the type to normally socialize in such establishments, this bar was cultured enough for her tastes, being well designed, well built, and having a satisfactory selection of

Angel had narrowed her eyes, pushed Fluttershy onto the path outside of her cottage, and slammed the door right in her face.
“Oh Angel! Please let me back in!” Fluttershy exclaimed. But she could already hear Angel locking the door on the other side.
Fluttershy knew she wouldn’t be getting back in too soon with Angel in this terrible mood, instead she decided to enjoy the last of the evening with a walk across the fields that surrounded her hometown; Ponyville.
She turned round, facing the icy, cold winter air. The breeze blew her long pink mane, separating the ends into small stands. “So much for my shower…” Fluttershy tried to laugh but the cold air choked her and seemed to freeze her tongue.
May as well get started, she thought. She trotted down the narrow pathway, and cut off down a small farmyard track. She hadn’t brought her walking boots, a

Locomotion glanced all around himself as he wandered through the orchard, casually taking in the sights and sounds of the late autumn weather. Where the leaves on the trees had formerly been a vivid shade of forest green, they had decayed to the same dull orange hue as the rusty old engines he sometimes saw awaiting repairs or disposal at the engine sheds where he worked, and several fallen apples lay with them on the ground near the trees that had been nurturing them since early spring, patiently waiting to be gathered. Though the red-coated unicorn colt was more of a railway enthusiast than a nature lover, he nonetheless found the scene rather picturesque and intriguing as he made his way up to the Apple family homestead.
Just as he was approaching the gate, he noticed a certain yellow Earth filly nearby. “Morning, Apple Bloom,” he called. “How's it going?”

Big Mac had always felt on some level that he understood ponies around ponyvill at a fairly good level, but the one thing he could not understand was why the meres in town were so keen to him. After all he was only a hard working earth pony that made his way through the day the best he could. He was not the smartest or the strongest. Nor was he the wisest or the best at any particular thing. He just worked in the field's day in and day out to give ponyvill the best darn apples equestria had ever seen. He thought he did a pretty good job to. But was that a reason for all the meres to fawn all over him? He certainly thought not. For one thing he found it annoying when he was trying to deliver some apples to some store or bakery when he would get side tracked by Twilight or Rarity asking him to come and talk or hinting for the tenth time that they would love it if he would ask them out on a date. It was on one of these trips into town that Fluttershy had come running up to him
