Katsucon and Getting Beat UpHey y'all!Katsucon and Getting Beat Up2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So I'll be at Katsucon the weekend after this, for Friday only (just going down for the day with some friends). If you're awake at 9 am on Friday, you can catch me at the gazebo with the big Sakizou cosplay group! I'll be dressed as Alice, so just look for the Alice with the toy white rabbit. :3 Katsucon is in National Harbor, Maryland, at the fabulous Gaylord Hotel.
So that's all fun and good, but also I wanted to mention a thing on here about something I hear all the time. I get a lot of feedback from fans who, for reasons unknown to me, bemoan the fact that they wish they looked like me or were popular like me. Seriously. People say this. I can't count how many girls write to me and say they wished they were me, because they feel they're not pretty or outgoing enough. I have nothing but sympathy for young people, especially girls, who feel they aren't attractive or well-liked, or feel like outsiders in their school or social

The goal for this contest is simple; create a piece of artwork of your favorite Tim Burton couple in honor of Valentine's Day. This couple can be "canon" - as in the couple was in the original storyline, or it can be a couple that you wish had ended up together. These couples can be from the same Tim Burton movie or can be characters taken from two separate Tim Burton movies. However, the two characters must both be Tim Burton characters. Entries with fancharacters, OCs, or self-inserts will not be accepted. Good luck everyone, be creative, and have fun!
Please follow the rules set up by deviantart & the club.
How I Got Started...A journal entry from a friend prompted me to think about my beginnings as a mask maker. When I started making masks about 25 years ago (wow!) it was totally on a whim. I was born drawing. My fantasy art, when I was a kid, was pretty standard stuff (dragons, unicorns, things with wings) but I always had a good sense of design and color. I'd been dabbing in leather art...doing tooling on archery bracers and things of that nature. Nothing particularly spectacular or uncommon really but it ~was~ a good thing that I concentrated on tooling and carving first because I perfected my technique in that respect long before the masks happened. How I Got Started...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Back then, NO ONE made masks out of heavy leather with detailed tooling. It just wasn't done. Masks of leather were either thick and plain or thin and swirly/curly in the Venetian style. People used molds for the thick masks, and molds press and mar carving. People used their hands shaping the thin leather, but obviously the thin leather wasn't suitabl

Bell$ and Whi$tle$You remember when mobile phones used to just do one thing: be a phone? Then they could text. Then they could take photos. Then they could connect to the internet.Bell$ and Whi$tle$2 years ago in Personal More Like This
People pay hundreds for the latest iPhone, which does a ton of things on top of being a phone, and which is why I DON'T OWN ONE!
I carry a phone because I might need to make a call.
Don't think that I'm some sort of Luddite that takes offence at all the bells and whistles they bolt onto the little boxes. I'm not. I just have no use for them, and so, I don't want to pay for them.
I can go into my local phone emporium and pick up a device that is a phone and only a phone for £19.99 (or even less!). No camera, no internet access, just a crappy little green screen that displays a number.
It's a phone, nothing more.
Which brings me to the next generation of consoles.
As far back as I have desired them, they have cost around the £100 – £200 mark at launch, even when they started doing things they didn't need to, like play DVDs/Blue
ZOO Salzburg - PhotosHiZOO Salzburg - Photos2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I am back from Alps
It was a very short trip, but I got to see ZOO Salzburg, visited fantastic spa, had a nice walk, travelled by cute little train, ate a deer and all was simply nice
But my camera and this ZOO are not friends :/ so I have only very few photos for you, I took mostly journal shots.
And their special GINGER (!!!!) wolves were sleeping again! I have never seen such inactive wolves in any ZOO
I also replied to almost all the notes!
I hope you do not hate me for not responding to all contest notes you sent me months ago - those who won were those who sent the first three notes, so there was justice anyway and the right answer was released too, so I would need to reply to all those messages just with "I am sorry that you did not win, I wish you good luck next time" thanks for understanding!
X-Botch OneAfter recent polls that said sh*tloads (an actual unit of measurement) of people were going to by a PS4 and only the mums of M$ employees were going to buy the VCR shaped Xbox One, Microsoft crapped itself and ditched its plans to charge for use of second-hand games and the requirement for the machine to be kept online, beyond an initial, one-time system set-up.X-Botch One2 years ago in Personal More Like This
M$ are, naturally, trying to pat themselves on the back for this U-Turn, and some people are actually praising them for "listening to consumers".
No. Just, no.
You don't get to pat yourself on the back for having so much money that you can buy your way out of a complete and utter cluster-f**k. You only get to do that when you use common f**king sense and get it right first time. You spend enough bloody money it! There's no excuse!
I'm still at a loss as to which console I want to invest in. It's going to be one or the other

Bleeding Out MAP PMV 3 PARTS LEFT!!!PLEASE READ? Please? Okay thank you.Bleeding Out MAP PMV 3 PARTS LEFT!!!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
SO I'd like to host a PMV MAP (PMV means I think Picture Music Video and MAP is basically where a lot of people (Or a few..) make videos or something to stick in the video (Typically in this terms an amv or pmv) ) The song I'm using is Bleeding Out by Imagine Dragons. THIS IS AN OC MAP!
Use your own OC's please (Or yours and your friends, that's okay considering the song.)
Make a journal advortising this, Optional but GREATLY wanted
Since this is a PMV create a picture relevant to the lyrics, then add the lyrics of your part to it.
It is going to this song http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hl-fALgJyaM
The max amount of part you can have is 6. As longs as you only take however many you can handle and don't take EVERYONE I am fine.
Please keep the maturity only to blood/violence/gore, okay nothing else.
I prefer of course they
Filed under 'M'....for 'Misplaced'As a kid, I always idolised those crazy characters in movies that worked in a chaotic environment, filled with papers and books. You know the ones? They were always looking for a specific item amid their hoard of stuff, and they'd tear the place apart in search of it.Filed under 'M'....for 'Misplaced'2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I just realised: I've become one of those characters.....and that sh*t's not nearly as much fun as it looked on screen when I was 8.
WHERE THE F**K DID I PUT THAT FILE??!!
Malta- The Happy IslandOn the day off I was sitting on the table in a cheap apartment complex for travelers with multi-people shared room where I lived with my friend. Despite of feeling like a melted chocolate every day and having wet hands ( and hey, my Nesquick chocolate which I bought from store already got melted too!), I tried to sit down in a public table to work on a commission.Malta- The Happy Island8 months ago in Personal More Like This
Surprisingly, in Malta there are BARELY any air conditioners. I swear, there days are hotter than in Florida. And we have the worst room because... even it doesn't have open-able windows. Sleeping was a pure nightmare. So hot and hard to breath comfortably. I felt like in a can. Or no, even worse, in a plastic bag.
Oh yes, that's the best word to describe.
Wear a plastic bag on your head and try to breathe during warm days.
After the first sleepless night I wanted nothing but return back to the North.
Ok, the first attempt of working...

But I am quite pleased as out of 92 artists who exhibited at the open art gallery, I was the only one mentioned by name and written about in the local Camden newspaper (its only local). In the actual hardcopy, I was the only artist written about, (she got my surname wrong) and I was also in a group picture.
But on their actual website http://www.hamhigh.co.uk/news/picture_gallery_all_92_artists_in_camden_art_exhibition_gather_for_show_s_last_day_1_2351397 I was also again the only artist who was written about (you may need to tick the survey question to get the full page). Bu
On pricing your artwork and creating a career...I am going to be speaking at an "Entrepreneurship In The Arts" program later today, and I've been organizing my thoughts. One subject that is certain to come up; "how do you arrive at a fair price for your original artwork?" I have some definite ideas regarding that question. On pricing your artwork and creating a career...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I was always told that the accepted model for artists and artisans, when it comes to pricing, was double your costs for materials, figure out an hourly price (double that for your retail price if you plan to have wholesale/retail differentials), add it up and there's your item price. I think this model is pure bullshit.
I was also told "charge what the market will bear!" Again, vague bullshit. What if you live in a depressed area? What if you live in a third world country? What if you're at some artist's ally at a little convention and there is a kid sitting next to you selling her character sketches for $5 each?
Here is what I think. There are so many variables when it comes to pricing original art. Yo

1. Table Salt. You can get some really interesting textures from using salt in your wet watercolor. The resulting texture can be altered by the size of the salt crystals. Table salt will most often give you very stippled texture, and sea salt will have a softer result. However, table salt can do both depending on the amount of water and salt you use, so it is a cheap staple to keep in your tackle box.
2. Rubber Cement. This is not the off
Castiel x Reader (Part 3)You heard someone walk inside you and Castiel's hotel room, and it was Crowley. He ended up next to the bed where you where sleeping soundly, not noticing there was an evil angel standing next to you. "Who is this beauty?" Crowley eyed your sleeping figure "My fiancee, as of yesterday. Now leave." Castiel walked in and stood next to you on the other end of the bed in case Crowley tried to harm you, he'd stop him. "Why, she is beautiful." Crowley sat at the end of the bed gently without you noticing "Step away from her!" Castiel's eyes began glowing in anger, but Crowley only laughed, making you shift in your sleep a little. Castiel pushed a piece of your hair that dropped in front of your face gently, making you smile at his gentle touch "It seems that she loves you," Crowley was about to put a hand on your forehead, but Castiel grabbed him by the wrist "Don't ever lay a hand on her!" Castiel growled and pushed Crowley back with enough force that made him fall on the floor withCastiel x Reader (Part 3)1 year ago in Personal More Like This

Okay, so Valentine's ReviewThis year I think I'm going to review a Fairly Odd Parents episode, and there are two episodes that come mind. Yeah, I know it's Viacom, but it's not Spongebob so they don't give a crap. The two episodes I'm considering are "Just the Two of Us" and "Love Struck" (the actual Valentines' episode). Both annoy me... a lot.Okay, so Valentine's Review4 months ago in Personal More Like This
Just the Two of Us, quite simply is character derailment. Trixey turns into a total nightmare when left alone. I wouldn't mind this so much if the episode didn't skirt a very real issue: for Timmy to keep pursuing her, he's going to have to deal with this at some point. It's the old saying, if you can't have her at her worst, you shouldn't want her at her best. And yet he does in future episodes...
Love Struck contains a lot of things I just hate about Valentines' Day specials with some stupid gender-stereotyping on top of it. There are a lot of smaller problems. Cupid is unlikable, and for some reason is stereotyped as camp. One of the bigger problems
I don't like waking up to thisYay drama... let's explain what happened. If you've noticed, there's been kind of a... storm in the comments? Pardon me if this is going to be a little confusing, but I'm going to try to explain exactly what happened. And it's time to explain exactly what happened before things get out of hand. Might be too late, but whatever. Better late than never.I don't like waking up to this2 weeks ago in Personal More Like This
Okay, so some time last night the user "Radical-Hat" decided to post me a comment (16 hours ago at present). And yes, I don't think that names should be hidden this time. This person has made themselves fairly well known. Here is the original comment that they left:
"Your show idea is very bad and won't be picked up. You're going to block me for actual critisism, I know, but I'm going to screencap this for truth.
Your character designs are literally the most generic white people ever. Brown hair. Green/Blue eyes. Anime style. Wow so good. Not. It is so generic and wont get noticed by anyone.
The names are also generic as fuck

And... shame on North Dakota for degrading women to living incubators. I can not believe this is possible in the 21th Century and it makes me proud of my country which is very liberal in this area and definitely does not force raped women to enjoy even more pain and trauma.
News: I got accepted for some working practise, so I should get some working experience. The idea is that you work 2 months for free in some company which participates in the special program organized by EU. The company gets money for it, you get experience and then you have better chance to gain a normal job. So I took my part and I should start in 10 days. It is better than staying home without money and practise - so now I will be without money, but getting some practise and working habits. It is also quite close to my home (well, 20 minutes of traveling
