Redesign a character contest! If there's something we love about fan art is how artists take artistic liberties and portray characters in their own style and different scenarios we wouldn't see otherwise. Some people will say that fan art is unoriginal, but from experience there's a lot of creativity involved when it comes to depicting your favourite characters in a different light, deviating from the way they were designed by their creators.
This is why, inspired by the Pokedesign Challenge by *CrazyRatty on Tumblr, your friendly neighborhood Fan Art CVs decided to host a fun little contest for you!
How it works:
Pick a character from any fandom you like.
Come up with at least 3 different re-designs for them and put them in a single image.
Upload to deviantART's Fan Art Gallery

The deadline for the contest has been pushed back the 16th of July 12pm GMT. This is the last extension. Please plan accordingly.
Hello! After some deliberation I've decided it is time to hold my first contest. It's going to be based on my story and original characters. The theme is spring. You are free to interpret this time in any way you choose.
My story is set in a contemporary Dublin, but in an alternative timeline where magic is possible. Visually, this means the world has been influenced by different historical periods as the supernatural world seems somewhat more archaic than its technolog
Winners of the Halloween Murder Mystery Contest! What happened?Winners of the Halloween Murder Mystery Contest!1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
We are pleased to announce the winners of the Halloween Murder Mystery Contest that was run through Halloween-HQ! First, let us tell you exactly what happened.
The killer was the Queen of Hearts. Ruthless and cold, she set out to kill Prince Charming for repeatedly spurning her unwanted shows of affection. She used a thin knife and struck when the lights went out during the castle ball. Quickly realizing what she had done and that she had gotten the wrong victim, she fled across Fairyland, through the dark forest, and back to her own castle.
Well, we originally had 3 prizes: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place based on scores from the characters you visited. (You didn't know you were being scored, did you?) But, when we ended up with 825 participants, we figured we needed to up the prizes a bit, too. Moonbeam13 over in Community Relations is a goddess, and she made the prizes even BIGGER!
Happy Birthday DeviantART! Welcome to WonderlandHappy Birthday DeviantART!5 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I find myself delighted to lay my rather large eyes on you. A purrfectly delicious mystery awaits you. Won't you come this way?
I've been a bad kitty-- a very naughty, naughty feline, indeed. You see, today is Alice's Unbirthday, and all the inhabitants of Wonderland had planned to join her and the Mad Hatter for tea and cake. But, the Mad Hatter, being quite a bit off his rocker, is requiring that everyone wear a hat to the party. Anyone without a hat cannot attend.
Whoops! Mysteriously, *smile* all the hats in Wonderland have gone missing. What a shame, what a shame. Whatever shall we do?
I know what we shall do. You and I, stranger, we shall go to the party together. I hear the cake is delicious this year, and there will be plenty for us.
Except, wait! HA! You cannot!!! You have no hat, either! I suppose you'll have to stay here, too, then. Very well. Goodbye.

Technomancer Contest! Over!Time to host my first contest of the 2013 year! Hopefully it will be the first of many. Enter this contest for your chance to win cash prizes (or points equivalent).Technomancer Contest! Over!2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
For this contest I want you to draw a technomancer. It can be a completely new character, or you can turn one of your current characters into one. It can be any race (human, elf, alien, panda, so on and so forth) from any time period (future, present, past, steampunk...). I'm leaving this fairly open to interpretation because I want to see some crazy wiz-biz!
Do not know what a technomancer is? Well as a necromancer controls the dead, or a cryomancer controls ice, technomancers control technology. For a better idea check out here ->http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Technomancy. As I said already this is fairly open to interpretation and will accept any form of technomancy as described in that wiki article.
- Entry must include at least one character being a technomancer

1. Happy Holidays and Merry New Year
As the old year begins to fade into the sunset, it is customary to reflect on the passing year and make plans for the upcoming one. Some do this in the form of resolutions, some people make action plans, some people just swing into the new year the same way they swung out of the old one Whatever way you intend to welcome in 2013, I hope you're surrounded by love and that you do it safely!
I've been reflecting on the year and like many, with some focus on the unimaginable events of the last few weeks. Specifically, the shooting in Newtown. I know that it's "human nature" to want to find

How it Works
projecteducate started with purely CV run weeks. Those were weeks focusing on a specific art form brought to you by your lovely Community Volunteers. As well as these epic seven days of awesome, we've now introduced two more themes which run on a bi-monthly basis. Those are Community Weeks, which include articles from members of the dA community - and Artist Toolbox Weeks which include a mixture of articles focusing purely on the 'tools' of the trade. If you're interested in either please note projecteducate!

PE: Daily Deviations - The Myth and the LegendDaily Deviations, or DDs . . . for some deviants, receiving one is the epitome of awesomesauce in the deviantART world. For others, they are a nice way to show off the work of lesser-known artists. Still others treat them as a special way to bring attention to great art that exemplifies works being done by a particular gallery or community.PE: Daily Deviations - The Myth and the Legend2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Perhaps because there are so many different ways of conceptualizing DDs, there are also many myths and misconceptions. I would like to address some of those myths by responding to the ones most frequently heard. Please note that these opinions are mine and reflect my experiences with the photomanipulation community, but perhaps they will be informative nevertheless.
Myth 1: DDs should always be perfect.
To many of us, the ideal Daily Deviation goes to an artist with amazing talent whose work draws you in and makes you think, "Wow, everyone needs to see this!" A DD should move you, inspire you, and provoke you to think, b
PE Daily Deviations- Presentation of your workHello all!PE Daily Deviations- Presentation of your work2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Well we’ve had a fascinating week so far; a week which hopefully has provided some insight not only to the process of DD selection but helped you understand what we look for in DDs as CVs. As we draw to the end of this week, I bring you an article which will whet your Saturday with thoughts that don’t just apply to the DD feature, but something which should be a consideration to everything you submit to dA. I am talking about deviation presentation.
Why is Presentation important?
Art isn’t always about just being “creative”. There are techniques and skills which develop over time which contribute to the quality of the work you produce and alongside this comes a developed understanding of good presentation.
Good presentation could be anything from cropping a photograph, to spell checking your literature. These are common sense things that in the rush of wanting to show off your creativity can sometimes be
Daily Deviation Suggestion Drive!Back By Popular Demand!Daily Deviation Suggestion Drive!2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
In January of 2012, the community was challenged by thorns to do something about their complaints on dA. Thus was born this very group! But before the group, it was just a fledgling idea on LiliWrites's account that began with a DD Suggestion Contest. The results of that contest were overwhelming. And so, under the prodding of quite a few Community Volunteers, we're going to do it again!
UPDATE: Less than 1 week in and we've already got 100 suggested DDs and 2 accepted suggestions!! Keep up the great work guys and gals. Please remember that you need to leave a link to every deviation you suggest in this journa

A Hunt For Literature (with 2400 Points)The new year is upon us, and what better way to start 2013 than by discovering new literature?A Hunt For Literature (with 2400 Points)2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
During the week of Jan 7, CRLiterature will be hosting a literature scavenger hunt. A scavenger hunt is typically defined as a game played in an extensive outdoor area, in which participants have to collect a number of miscellaneous objects. Our scavenger hunt will be played in the Literature gallery here on deviantART and will have deviants searching high and low for literature deviations that match the items on the list for the hunt. Have I mentioned there's a total of 60 deviations to be found (20 poetry, 20 Prose, 5 Script, and 15 general items)?
Here are the all-powerful rules
You will have 5 days to locate the deviations, starting on Jan 7 12:00 AM EST and ending on Jan 11 11:59 PM EST.
Post a link to the deviation along with what number it is in the start journal to receive a point.

OH YES, IT'S BACK BY POPULAR DEMAND!
Ladies and Gentlemen of deviantART, welcome to the festive joy that is Critmas!
For you who have never heard of Critmas, this event started 4 years ago with just a simple challenge: critique. We're asking participants to give give give, as critique is one of those important things we need as artists and writers to develop our techniques. Anyone can give a critique, you don't need qualifications in it, you just need to be honest and constructive and if you're new to it, this is a great opportunity to give it a go!
Not sure where to start with giving critique? Here are some useful resources:

Why you feature stolen work?!?!Lately there seem to have been a few myths flying around in particular with regards to how we as Community Volunteers, give Daily Deviations. Many people seem to think that we sit at our desks in dark little rooms and let out evil laughter whilst we purposefully feature stolen work. The dark rooms and laughter - well I can't say yes or no on that one! But I can promise you it's not our intent to give exposure to people who have stolen work. I recently featured a piece of work that turned out to be stolen. However I went into extensive conversations with the artist before I featured it, and with added metadata and dates, it's difficult to know where to draw the line. I've given people the benefit of the doubt before - and it's worked out nicely as their work has been legitimate. Below are some comments I have seen being thrown around the past few days - and hopefully an attempt to bust the myth. Why you feature stolen work?!?!2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This

Stamps are a great way to show your support for a project, a person or a group of people, spread awareness for a cause or promote a contest. It is also valid to do them just for fun, with just a funny image and/or message.
Since their introduction to the deviantArt galleries, millions of stamps have been created with a great variety of messages, both silly and serious, and you can see them all over the place, from journals to profile widgets.
The Community Relations department exists to encourage, facilitate and develop the relationship with our deviantART community. Our goal is to nurture our community by encouraging, stimulating artists to create, collaborate, and participate in a friendly, safe, and supportive artistic environment.

My tenure as Community Volunteer of Fan Fiction ends tomorrow, and I want to go out with a bang. So here's one more competition with prizes so you'll all remember me fondly!
A writer's best friend is another writer. Sometimes you just cannot objectively look over your own work and fix all your mistakes. You need a fresh pair of eyes to help you, and who better than someone else who understands the labors of love you're undertaking? That is where editors come in. But for many people, finding a literary helpmate can be difficult.
What's this about?
This is a two-part contest for writers of fan fiction. Phase One: Write a fan fiction but don't bother to proofread it. Post it in its raw, unedited first draft (just make sure it's still legible--correct your typos, at the ve
Contest: Crossovers! As kids, we often mashed our toys together, regardless of Copyright. Superman would take command of G.I. Joe to defeat the combined forces of Doctor Doom and the Decepticons, while Barbie took a break from her idealistic lifestyle to become a Pokemon master. And the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles got recruited into Starfleet and taught Spock the wonders of pizza. (And from the furor arose Mister Rogers in a blood-stained sweater.)Contest: Crossovers!2 years ago in Official deviantART Contests More Like This
And thus, the Crossover was born. It's something we never really outgrew, either. To this day, seeing our favorite characters from different stories meet and compete is a guilty pleasure that we all like to indulge in. So now's your chance to indulge yourselves for prizes!
