Similar Deviations
The one thing that holds an (American) train together, for as long as needed, with nearly undying faith to the task. The coupler.

Here we see one on the caboose at Cass, WV during Cass Railfan weekend 2011.

One of my goals on my trip to the American Southwest was to shoot all the BNSF GP60Ms that are based out of Fontana, CA. In this one shot is more GP60Ms than Ive ever seen before. Mission accomplished!

A empty coal drag slows as it enters Bellevue, Ohio where it will tie down for the night. You wouldnt know it by this shot but the train is being powered by two Norfolk Southern heritage units, the Reading and Lehigh Valley.

A event that hasnt happened since the 1970s. One of the biggest highlights of 2012 was shooting NKP 765 rounding Horseshoe Curve just west of Altoona, PA. I was one of a dozen railfans that set up at this spot including Norfolk Southern's official photographer and one of the editors of Trains magazine.

The other highlights for me was chasing ATSF3751 to the Grand Canyon and the heritage unit gathering at Spencer, NC.

Norfolk Southern's Conrail heritage unit 8098 steps onto the turntable at Spencer, NC for her shining moment of glory. She is surrounded by 19 other friends, in the view is the Lehigh Valley, Monongahela, and original Norfolk Southern Railway heritage units.

The line was thick with railfans as NS spun every engine. I found myself a open spot which happened to be exactly in front of the Conrail heritage unit. I sat down in front of the other railfans and did my shots at a much lower level. This particular shot Im laying on the ground to get this.

What looks like two Gevos growling and pulsating upgrade as they battle the Cajon pass with sand on full is really just a pair of helpers on a freight from Barstow. Seen as they descend Sullivans curve, named after a rail photographer.

Back when the Ohio Central owned the Youngstown and Southern, they ran 40-60 car trains of trash down to Negley where it was unloaded into a landfill. Here the train is disecting Boardman, Ohio on its way south.

It was absolutely crazy to watch a train of this size on 1910 interurban rail.
