Rui Palha: the movie PhotographerAs you might guess, I often scour the web in search of images that touch my heart. I will drop whatever I am doing to find out more. I distinctly remember seeing the image below on Flickr. It instantly drew my attention. It was like a movie still.Rui Palha: the movie Photographer2 years ago in Personal More Like This
The director couldn't have done a better job, starting with the window frame and the scratched and worn glass from which we look through. The actor's hand in pocket, the other holding a newspaper, keeping it close to himself; The hunch something weighing heavy on his mind; The backlight putting him in silhouette giving him an anonymous feel perhaps it's what he's feeling; People ignoring him what life often is about you're on your own I was moved by its simplicity and its complex emotion of loneliness.
Rui's images seem to be devoted to that independent soul. He is drawn to the loner, the one who st
Trains...Ill throw this all out. When the typical person thinks of a train, they generally think of Thomas the tank engine or some 1800s tiny 4-4-0 steam loco. Or at best, some old slow broken down piece of yesterday yet just 60 years ago, they where known for their speed, reliability, and dependability. Some may of thought of some small tank engine but when they saw some Goliath of the rails, they realized otherwise.Trains...3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Today, the trains are bigger, the locomotives are more powerful, yet are still seen as trains of yesterday. Not the economic back bone that not even the truck can compete with. Think of all the coal coming out of the Powder River Basin on trucks.
Then, you show a steam engine and it becomes steampunk. It does fit as thats how it was. Steam powered was and is one of the most efficient forms to produce power. Just, no need to get over-exaggerated with what was. Steam and the Victorian era go hand and hand so having this view is better than imagining some small tank engine. Just...do

Back Our British Rail HeritageHello to all my watchers.Back Our British Rail Heritage3 years ago in Personal More Like This
What follows is an open email to the Office of Rail Regulation, regarding recent proposals which could hurt charter train operation in the UK considerably. Currently, if a charter train is delayed up to the point that it delays other service trains, the operating company in charge of the train is only liable for a maximum £5000 penalty fine. If the fine amount exceeds £5k, Network Rail picks up the remainder. Under new proposals, the £5000 cap will be lifted, and operating companies will be responsible for the full fine amount no matter how large, so if a delay runs up a £15000 bill, the operating company has to pay in full.
This is my email direct to the ORR, also forwarded to the NRM York and the NRM Shildon, and shortly will also be forwarded onto the PM David Cameron, DPM Nick Clegg, leader of the opposition Ed Miliband MP, Secretary of State for Transport Patrick McLoughlin MP, Mayor of London Boris Johnson and the London Museum of Transport:

It seems the Force has truly Awoken, at least it has here on DeviantArt.
It has been one week since the teaser trailer for the first of the Disney owned Star Wars movies was released. Twitter and Facebook nearly broke under the deluge of postings of the trailer and frame by frame commentary of it. Each commentator hoping to spot something everyone else had missed.

and then this...
If you have the guts I didn't, to watch the whole video,
then even if you stopped halfway, you'll see the eyes of a raccoon dog, skinned alive, stare into the camera, while clinging to its hopeless life.
For clarification, I am not in anyway a supporter nor am I affiliated with PETA.
So if PETA is another concern and problem, then it's just another one we'll have to fix.
And yes, this specific one is staged, but my point isn't that this is how people skin animals, it's that these animals are dying REGARDLESS of the cause and reason behind it.
I'm not one of those spokespersons; who comes to your school or town, to make you sit as I try to make a serious topic into something fun and enjoyable to my audience.
I'm not hear to entertain you.

Is this the reason why I couldn't get a date?I was cleaning the other day and came across a book that my mother gave me when I was little. A book she bought from a christian bookshop, entitled 'Opening Lines: 458 Great Conversation Starters When you're on a date'. Innocent enough, might be a good idea to help little shy Ry get a girlfriend perhaps! So I was reading this book and boy oh boy... was I in for a treat! Most opening lines in this book were decent, questions like 'What's your favourite fruit?', 'What countries would you like to visit one day?', 'What's your favourite day of the week?' fair enough, but some opening lines were VERY questionable....Is this the reason why I couldn't get a date?4 months ago in Personal More Like This
For each opening line, just imagine you are on a date with someone for the first time.
458 GREAT conversation starters they say? OK LETS LEARN SOMETIHNG FROM THIS BOOK.
So you are at the doorstep of the girl you like. She opens the door, you say hello. 'Oh hi. Im wondering,

This is arguably......one of the greatest steam in the winter videos that I've ever seen. The angles this guy got are great and they really show the contrast between engine, scenery, and the steam itself. We got to see steam hauled freight (short but whatever). And two beautiful engines. And for those of you who complain about whistles and bells being used so often...*cough cough* British and Australians *cough* neither of which are heard very often, it's mostly the puff from these engines, and they've got quite a bark on them. Go see it, NOW!!This is arguably...1 year ago in Personal More Like This
The Raven by Edgar Allen PoeOnce upon a midnight dreary, while I pondered weak and weary,The Raven by Edgar Allen Poe3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore,
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door.
`'Tis some visitor,' I muttered, `tapping at my chamber door -
Only this, and nothing more.'
Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December,
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; - vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow - sorrow for the lost Lenore -
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels named Lenore -
Nameless here for evermore.
And the silken sad uncertain rustling of each purple curtain
Thrilled me - filled me with fantastic terrors never felt before;
So that now, to still the beating of my heart, I stood repeating
`'Tis some visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door -
Some late visitor entreating entrance at my chamber door; -
This it is, and no

A Pop Culture Interpretation of The Supernatural
Every culture around the world created gods and other mythical beings by mixing and matching fanged and taloned animal parts—e.g., enormous eagle heads on lions’ bodies—human beings have always seemed to need to believe there are powerful and usually quite vengeful supernatural beings lurking just beyond the candlelight.
Supernatural beings come to serve several purposes:
They kept people on the lighted path of truth and goodness, fearful of exploring beyond;
They were a reminder of the punishment we deser
