Challenge 1: Clean Media, Clean MindWelcome to the first 30 day challenge! This month’s challenge is:
Clean Media, Clean Mind
You’ve heard “you are what you eat” and it applies to more than just food. So the challenge is to clean up what sites you visit, videos you watch, and music you listen to. After the month is over, tell us via picture or journal how changing what you consume, has changed how you think, speak, and act. Things to cut out of your media diet: sex, drugs, drinking, swearing, occult, and violence.
These challenges will be harder for some than others, so I’ve included three levels of commitment.
Level 1: baby steps
Cut out media that is blatantly sinful. I’m talking porn, violent movies, songs that swear every other word, etc. If it’s too hard to hold off for 30 days, consider how that itself is a problem. Are you making media an idol? Talk to a trust friend about it or a fellow group member. Also consider listening to a positive radio station:
Shout It Out - How are we called? As Christians, I believe we have a higher calling to be light to the world, to be role models. And not so that we can be prideful or judge others, but to glorify God. (Matt 5:16)Shout It Out - How are we called?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
We are Christians because we have faith in Jesus Christ, but the Bible tells us that faith by itself, faith that is not acted out, is dead. (James 2:17-18)
I know life can get pretty crazy, but we should be encouraging each other to be the absolute best we can be. Other people should want what we've got going on. I've been thinking about this for a bit, so I got a couple points where I feel like us as Christians are falling short and can really step up our game.
And please, I encourage you to comment and give feedback. Where are you personally struggling? What advice do you have for combating some of these issues. Share with the group.
#1 : Intellectually
This may mean simply being a good student at school or studying up on a subject by yourself. We obviously have access to the internet, which gi

Multi-submit is a tabbed interface built into the Submit page which allows you to upload and submit multiple deviations at once.
There are several ways to upload multiple files:
Drag and drop several files onto the Submit page at once. Select several files from your Sta.sh by opening the "Select file from Sta.sh" modal and dragging to select, or by using control+click (command+click, for Mac users) to highlight several files at once.
Submit an entire stack from your Sta.sh by hovering over a st
Premium Content: Sellin and Buyin-Important ReadYa ya I know! Some of you know about it now! Read completely to understand..Premium Content: Sellin and Buyin-Important Read3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Now all the premium members can have a small widget like thing in your deviation to directly sell your contents. I know it looks cool to have that cool widget thing displayed in your deviation page. But is it really worth it? Think about it!
Perhaps you've clearly read what it says... 80% revenue shall be transferred to the the seller and rest goes to deviantART! So, why should a seller loose 20% of the revenue if he/she can sell the same content by other means and yet loose nothing? The seller might not loose but then the buyer looses if the seller doesn't.
Let me get into more details with some scenarios and example to make more sense....
Example 1: I want to sell a journal Skin @ 1000pts
Now you may be excited to sell it using the new premium content platform. Right? So, what do you do? You quote 1000pts as
Critical Assessment and Aftermath of Art SchoolCritical Assessment and Aftermath of Art School3 years ago in Personal More Like This
This is an updated account on how things are going years after having left art school, the effects it's had on me, and my personal thoughts on attending. My views here aren't wholly different than the few rants I've had on the subject in the past, but it's one I believe I have to continue talking about to assist others in making the right decisions for themselves and their future path. (I should also mention that this is the viewpoint of an american in America.)
It's become increasingly clear to me over the last year that out of my 25 years on this Earth, there's only one decision I ever truly regret: and that was going to art school. Now, there's a good chance that I may not be saying this had I attended a different school, but there's no way to ever know, so what I'm really saying is "I regret going to the school I chose, not school in general." I feel as though I was let down by my school. I held up my end of the bargain (some $80~$90

Hoping for America to stay freer than ever before and always remember who we are.
My 4th of July Prayer:
Thank you that we have a place to try and come and pursue righteousness and our dreams in the doing of good to others and the exercising of our gifts. Thank you for the sacrifices that people have paid on our behalf and we honor that and all our veterans who sacrifice their bodies for us. Please provide for them and give them the honor they deserve and the mental/physical healing they need along with their families.
YHWH, deliver us from dead-end work, greed, and corporate cruelty. I rebuke Mammon, the worship of money, in the name of Jesus Christ our High Priest. Loose our finances so that we can have an inheritance for our children. Cause us to start our own businesses that functio
Best place on the web?I wanted to share a few facts about a company that is very dear to my heart:Best place on the web?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's been my favourite place on the web for about seven years now. It also has some impressive little-known stats - it's the sixth biggest social network in the world. It has 28 million users. It set the standard for the user icon, and incorporated the first 'like' button. It was also, apparently, the first social network, 12 years ago.
I love it because I find it to be a wonderfully positive environment - way less haters than pretty much any site I ever invested any time in. It's supportive of creators, whatever level they are at. It encourages diversity, and doesn't judge it's users, no matter what they are into (pretty much!), writers, artists and photographers all.
It also, many people don't know, sponsored artist's alley at SDCC, keeping it in the main hall, laying down a soft carpet to spare feet, and providing padded chairs. It sponsored Tr!ckster, and the Spectrum convention. It genuinely - and I mean

Give the gift of a commentAs I read all the comments that people leave on my images here in DA, I'm really amazed and humbled with what they're posting. So many describe my images as what they've imagined in their dreams, while reading a book, or even reminded them of their home that is so many thousands of miles away. I have inspired others to begin painting again, to attempt more landscapes, to study art more, and even inspired stories that were written by other DA members. While I don't know many of you, my art has touched many in some way and you've left comments to let me know this. You can't imagine how encouraging this is. To me, this is very rewarding and motivates me to continue my art and is actually helping me through a tough time.Give the gift of a comment3 years ago in Personal More Like This
In one month I will lose 20% of my pay until September by furlough because of the US sequestration. That ends up being about 10% for the year. I'm sure that some will be laid off as the government adjusts to it's new budget.

Good news folks!
From the 21st of October I will be leading this online class in creature design with Phoenix Atelier.
You can see an interview with me here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgE9hFAMihI&feature=youtu.be
It's an 8 week program, during which I will walk you through the processes I use when designing my non-humanoid critters, from the Birrin to Needlejaws.
We'll cover research management, artistic technique, and the considerations one must make when taking an evolutionary approach to alien design.
The class will consist of a combination of live tutorials, written course material and narrated videos of my design process for the critter you see here.
I'll demonstrate how to effectively manage research materials

But this time it's not for my sake, it's for OTHERS sake. Because since I've gotten this I'm surpriced by the amount of people -ESPECIALLY other artists- who have NO idea what it is!
It is a HORRIBLE thing to suffer through as an artist, I wish people could be more aware of it because artists ARE in the riskzone of getting it. It doesn't mean that you WILL get it in the future or anything, I'm just saying that it's (sadly) a big possibility. It's even a bigger chance that you might get it if you are a woman.
So I'm just writing this to maybe make some people more aware of what it is. I am just talking out of my own perspective and some usual symptoms, but it is pretty easy to find information about it online if you just google it!
No mather if anyone reads it or not I still think it's worth to at least MENTION it, who knows, it might help someone out there?
So to start with t

In the past year I moved to my own 1 bedroom apartment, but did not have internet outside of my phone. However, I was finally where I had wanted to be, on my own in my first apartment. My computer was giving me grief, so I left it alone. This caused me to eventually pick up a pencil and paper and began drawing traditionally again. It was a blessing in disguise. That, coupled with newfound inspirations, caused me to quit drinking quite suddenly. This resulted in also no longer engaging in the useless, life wasting, money burning activities that usually accompanied the addiction. I went further by changing my unhealthy diet as well.
However, I quickly found myself alone as many of the people I hung out with where all still about being as unproductive as possible, and so now I was no longer interesting to them. I realized sadly that where I was now, was not where I wanted to be in life
Tips for Commissioned Artists.PLEASE FAVOURITE IF YOU LIKE! I'd like as many commissioned artists to see this as possible!Tips for Commissioned Artists.4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I feel inspired to write up some advice for those who want to be paid for their work and who want to be well-known. :3
This is because I recently recieved a commission from a person who... well, disappointed me in the time they took to make the piece, plus their attitude towards the advice I gave them, and giving excuses for why some parts of the work came out bad. X_x Don't get me wrong it wasn't terrible but I certainly got put off paying them for art again. :/
I'm hoping that this entry will help people. I might not have much experience (3 years), but I have done enough commissions to get a general idea of the golden rules of doing commissions.
Okay, here I go on the tips~

Whether in real money or points, it's not the amount paid, but the principle, that you ha
Anybody have any links to Portfolios?Hey guys!Anybody have any links to Portfolios?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I need to get kicking on my portfolio, but I'm not entirely sure what the layout should be, or in what format it should be. I'm thinking of just sending it out to few animation studios here in South Africa to bag an internship sort of deal. Work from the bottom, you know. Also thinking of using Visual Development and Illustration and such to get in and then worm my way into the story department.
So yeah! If any of you know of any artists in animation who have put up their professional portfolios anywhere I can take a gander (or if you've composed your own and you're willing to help), I would major appreciate it if you guys could point me in the right direction! I'm just trying to identify the common threads between the portfolios I've tracked down so far and any you guys might be able to share with me. I have zero exposure in the field, so portfolio professionalism and presentation are all I've got—and I mean to use that to the max

It might be silly putting up a journal solely on a piece of fan art, but if you are a freelance artist, or you are an artist with little time and you have been working on a piece of art that means actually quite a lot to you, the process of completion can sometimes release diverse and multiple emotions. I have been working on this picture piece by piece over many months and felt torn away whenever something else came inbetween that had higher priorities. When I reached the brink of completion, I had the feeling that this somehow feels too short, or that it could need more.
Is it already done?
Can't there be more?
When I finished the painting and laid down the pen, I felt relieved and awkward at the same time. Now I feel happy that I actually *could* take the time off to work on personal pictures such as this one.
I believe that you can as well. If you have an idea, just do it!
Even if it takes you a long time and

Get Healthy, Get Happy
If you're on a computer, you're most likely in a first world country. You don't have to worry about starving, and you dont have to worry about hard labor that overworks you to exhaustion. In fact, chances are alot of us have the opposite problem. We often exercise too little and eat too often. Now thats its spring, alot of us will want to do this challenge anyway, so here goes!
(Kudos to anyone who starts this challenge and continues to do the previous challenge as well)
These challenges will be harder for some than others, so I’ve included three levels of commitment.

No, can anyone really say
"God bless America"
without recognizing the irony
in speaking those words
as we live in a nation
that applauds evil
and mistakes lawlessness for freedom?
We live in a nation
where everyone does what is right
in their own eyes,
A nation where we encourage
achieving success at any cost,
where we desire sex
with no boundaries,
where we proclaim spirituality
Welcome to the temple
of our idol named Pleasure,
and like a whore she enters
our hearts through our pockets.
We stuff our faces with that bread
to fill our bellies instead of our souls,
We drink our fill of wine to get drunk
and forget His bloodshed on the cross.
"America, America, God shed His grace on thee"
So we can look spiritual
as we say 'Amen' every Sunday
and then laugh in Jesu
AttitudeOften I get asked what it takes to get into the game industry and, aside from the very obvious 'be good at what you do and know people', you have to have the right attitude to get there. It's a very tough world out there so you have to learn how to roll with the punches. You'll get good feedback, terrible feedback, smack from people you've never even heard of!Attitude2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's all about how you handle it and how you move on. Keeping a positive attitude is not always easy but just know that everyone goes through shit times and break down every now and again.
Here was an average day for me before I got work:
11:00 get up
11:05 get breakfast
11:10 get to work
18:00 get food
18:30 back to work
03:30 stop working
It got me down at times but I knew it was all about attitude so I tried to keep positive and push through. Willpower is definitely a finite resource so dont overdo it! Take breaks, get fresh air, relax. I didnt do that enough and I really regret it.
The thing is, it's a rough path

I can’t see why,
They would look my way.
They see my mask,
But not my face,
They never know,
The darkness I embrace.
I’m glad to leave,
Since no one cares,
Where I’m going,
Or how I’ll get there.
So goodbye, everyone,
I’m leaving this land,
I see the light now,
But behind me. . .is a hand?
A hand pulling me back,
To where I once was,
It isn’t giving up,
And it works with a cause.
This cause it has,
Seems to be for me,
But. . .no one cares,
Yet this hand wants––no, needs.
Needs me to hold on,
It doesn’t want me to go,
Alright, I won’t slip away,
I’m not falling that low.
That level of lowness is too much,
To ever again go through,
So I will turn around now,
And come running back to you.
