Difference between selling Art and selling MeatGreetings Ryceballs. Today I am gonna be talking about the differences between selling art and selling meat.Difference between selling Art and selling Meat2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It is absolutely fascinating how different the two can be! :iconyoudontsayplz: ... Well first of all, an artist likes their work to be appreciated and let the audience see for themselves whether they want to buy their artwork or not. While a butcher (ESPECIALLY ASIAN ONES LIKE THE ONE IN THE ARTWORK) only cares about selling the meat and making the profit, they have no sentimental feelings towards what they are selling, because if they do then there won't be any meat to sell right? One of the main rule of a butcher is to have no emotional attachment towards the animals, because they know sooner or later the animal needs to be chopped up. Well what about artists? Well they put their blood, sweat and tears into their artwork to make it as pretty as possible, all in hopes that the audiences would enjoy their art as much as the artist enjoy making them. NOW here's the thing thoug

Every year is like a chapter of our lives.
The object of a new year is not a celebration of a new year, nor having a new number displaying in our callendar but it is where we should have a new soul.
To sit down and think over how to improve up our lives.
Also is not a day to cry out loudly how our past year was unsuccessful and impatiently wait when it will be over, start a new, but to learn who we are and how we can move forward.
I'm not here to wish a good New Year Eve since it's not the only day which will decide how our new year will be like… however what I truly wish you guys lots of joy for every day for this year, as well for next year- regardless what is the day or what's happening. Every day is a miracle and a proof of our existence.
Smile to yourself while looking at your image reflected by mirror and don't be shy to say "I love you" to yourself. And lots of love to all livings forms, animals and nature and less interest to mater
Being Critical =/= HateLooks like I need to remind people about this again, as yesterday I got several comments in a row from people who assumed that me being critical about something automatically translated into me outright hating it. I don't know how to stress this enough but that's not the case... You can be critical of stuff you like and not hate it. I don't know why our culture tries so hard to force everything into such black and white terms but come on guys, really... being critical and smart about what you love doesn't mean you hate it.Being Critical =/= Hate1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Take the Dragon's Crown comic, for example, in which I was critical of the Sorceress's design. From that someone hypothesized that I must HATE the game, and that's farthest from the truth. I know full well that Vanillaware is an amazing studio and they do fantastic work. One of my favorite games of theirs is Muramasa the Demon Blade. Dragon's Crown has scored really highly and it's most definitely worth your money to buy/download it if you can. BUT... I can still be

From all over people have expressed how they feel about it. People have gone into large detail on what they like about this.
I want to talk about anxiety in general and how the image came about.
3 years ago I was hit hard by the disorder. It was so bad I got suicidal at points. Not the attention starving kind. Seriously contemplating it. Life was hell.
To someone who hasn't experienced it. I'll try and describe it from my own experience and point of view.
At any random point in the day I can get these attacks. During these attacks I'm overwhelmed with the feeling of imminent death. No rational thinking can erase the thought or feeling. Imagine having a gun held to your head. And you know it's going to go off. You just don't know when. That's what happens when I experience an attack.
I get these daily.
I hide it well from people around me. By just walking away. Or keeping to myself a lot.
How did this affect my
Binary tool eraser for Paint Tool SAII get asked this quite a few times, and sometimes I see people trying to use the regular eraser to erase pixel lines in SAI. There is a way to make a binary tool eraser, which will make your life tons easier and keep your lineart and shading looking sharp!Binary tool eraser for Paint Tool SAI3 years ago in Personal More Like This
After I did this, it was a lot easier to do pixels, especially when I shade. I build up layers and multiply them and erase away highlights.
I just thought I should post this for those who wanted to know!
Art and expectationsDear, deviantart fellow artistsArt and expectations7 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
There are times when having way too low or way too high expectations can lead to bad results and have a negative impact on things that we do and how we feel.. but how to deal with this problem? How to achieve the perfect balance that would help us in our creative journey? Here are my thoughts about the topic, that I hope might be helpful for you.
Too low expectations
When you think that you're not good enough, that you lack the skill, talent that other artists have, being afraid of failing and overthinking all the time. But all those things do only harm - stopping you from actually doing the work, even though you may think that you are not able to do that, it doesn't mean that it's true. You'll never know if you won't try.
It's so easy to find all those excuses, but it takes a lot of persistence to not let doubts and low self-esteem stand in our way. We all are humble and we all have flaws.

Who would've thought, my first deviation was using a base and mouse (so basically, terrible)
This was made about 3-4 years ago, and I still cringe when I see it.
Anyway, back then, I was all about using bases, recreating art from references--

I also created my OCs about 4-5 years ago, and the only two that survived were Anna-lee and Caisey.
Over the years they've had a serious revamp. You can hardly tell that they were the same OC once.

Selfies vs. Self-PortraitsI don't think people understand the difference between a self-portrait and a 'selfie'.Selfies vs. Self-Portraits1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I've been taking photos of myself ever since I got into photography. Actually, I remember the day I took my first self-portrait. I had always been a landscape/ nature photographer, and I had woken up one Saturday morning with the intention of going to the woods to take some nature shots. But it was pouring out and my mom, being afraid that I'd get sick in the rain, insisted that I stayed in. I listened, but I still wanted to take photos.
So I decided to take some photos of myself.
Portraiture had always intimidated me because I felt that there were elements in it beyond my comprehension. With landscapes, if I saw a pretty scene, I would just photograph it. That came natural to me. But when it came to photographing a face/ body, suddenly I had to worry about the way the light was hitting the face and if it was the right angle for the model.
But lo and behold, I enjoyed taking self-portraits that Satur
Binary HatredRemember when I was posting some journals about artist taboos and I had a couple more to talk about? Here's one of them, though it doesn't just relate to artists it's just kinda an all around taboo I wish would end.Binary Hatred2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Perceived Rivalry Hatred
Basically it works like this: You say you dislike something and immediately get attacked by people who either defend the thing you said you disliked, or accuse you of being a supporter of it's supposed rival (whether this has any basis in reality or not). It also works on things you like, things you're indifferent to, or anything really. EVERYTHING has a supposed default rival. Movies, TV, Video Games, Ideologies, Words, Phrases, etc. Everything.
Say you're an atheist? Automatically means you hate all Christians.
Say you like the X-Box 360? Automatically means you hate Sony.
Say you like the PS3? Automatically means you hate Microsoft.
You liked a Marvel movie? Guys you hate the DC stuff.
You like Chocolate Ice Creme? Fuck you and your vanilla bias!

DeviantART is dedicated to protecting our artists, and in an effort to be able to more quickly handle complaints by deviants who have had their rights infringed on, we have changed the way we receive complaints from the artist or the copyright holder.
We have now enabled artists and copyright holders to file DMCA takedown requests through an easy to use form. The DMCA is a formal notice and takedown system for copyright owners. It is not an arbitrary set of rules created by deviantART; it is a legal process which is respected the world o

Proving your Geek CreedNerds all share a unified experience of being socially ostracized from the rest of other so-called "normal" societal groups. The reasons may vary (not being good at sports, liking a certain sci-fi/fantasy TV show, etc), but the fact that we all were picked upon and marginalized during our most formable years is a major part of the nerd/geek identity. But in recent years nerd culture stopped being it's own niche thing, and has started to seep into mainstream culture. Making nerd culture more accessible has naturally brought with it a new group of people and fans into our sphere... and not everyone is happy about this development.Proving your Geek Creed2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Personally I think it's great that nerd culture has become so widely accepted lately. I can freely have a discussion about my favorite DC or Marvel superheros in public without getting looks of disgust or incredulity because EVERYONE loves Batman and The Avengers. And if I make an obscure joke about Doctor Who, there's a LOT of people who will get it now. But l

****On Jan 1, 2015 new EU VAT (consumer tax) regulations mean that any business selling digital services/products to EU customers must charge tax at the local rate for the purchaser’s country. A USA business must determine & verify the purchaser’s country, store their personal details for 10 years, & establish, charge and remit to that country’s authorities the appropriate VAT. There is no minimum threshold to exclude micro businesses. Not only is the procedure, bureaucracy & changes to website payment processing too onerous & expensive for some businesses to absorb while remaining viable, but the regulations are inadequately detailed, poorly explained & may be applied differently in separate EU countries.****

Route 1: Last two nights I've been having some interesting dreams.
In my first dream, I was just walking down some street and out of nowhere this guy appears and shamelessly puts his arm around my shoulders and we keep walking and my reaction was "OI, HOW DARE Y-..." *glances up to the guy* OMG, HE'S SO CUTE!!!...I don't trust you cute guy, but you're cute, so I'll forgive you. He was tall, asian, black hair, he looked like some k-pop star, wearing a simple white tank top and that smirk on his face uuuugh asdfghjkl; I asked him tons of questions but he didn't say anything, he was just smirking and being cute, he told me his name, but it sounded so ridicules that I assumed he was lying. Mystery type. Then he led me into some cafe where I met his sister and he disappeared QAQ But it was a cafe full of kitties so I was like "wait a sec...did he just turn into a cat?!" and aaaaa, that's

If so, I really hope they go the whole hog and make Batman old.
If it were my project, I'd write it so Batman had been at the crime fighting game for decades prior to the alien-in-tights showing up. With Superman around, what use is there for The Batman? The authorities have always been gunning for him, but the public had an uneasy tolerance. Now everyone see him as a dangerous liability.
Of course, Batman is the toughest, most cunning man on the planet. If you could just take him out, it would have been done by now. So Superman is asked to deal with him.
The whole story would be based around the conflict of ideals: both support the concept of justice, but while Superman has faith in the system, Batman sees it as totally impotent and has taken on the responsibility of supporting it on his own shoulders.
And Batman would win.
Batman ALWAYS wins.
Why Cynical Improvement Is Bad For YouSince we're on the subject of taboos, I feel it necessary to talk about this one. This one pisses me off and it's very much a cornerstone to a bigger issue with our artistic community: The idea and assumption that as an artist you MUST improve at all times. 24/7. No exceptions. Every work you produce must be 10x better than your last. You must constantly strive for perfection. To ignore this "truth" is to commit the terrible sin of rejecting the very concept of improvement, and you will never break out of your "comfort zone."Why Cynical Improvement Is Bad For You2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm here to tell you that this is hogwash.
You should strive to improve. Never say that I don't encourage improvement. It's why you go to school, why you go to college, and why after college you continue to work on your art. You always want to be better. The problem is that far too many people have a strictly binary concept of what "better" is and on how to "improve."
First off, there is no pinnacle of perfection. There is no
