A creek at the bottom of a canyon,
red cliffs on either side and a giant
pond dam to the north that wildflowers grow on.
Paths that we created through the woods
and up and down those copper canyon walls
while we pretended to be wild Injuns
or wanted outlaws being hunted by a posse.
You were on your knees,
in the middle of the creek,
when I found you.
A neighbor girl, trespassing.
I had a mind to chase you off
until I asked what you were doing.
You looked at me, smiled, and said,
"Catching crawdads. Come help!"
After that day, we spent Springs and Summers
building fort walls and chasing frogs,
skipping stones and arguing baseball,
sharing comic books and trading punches.
You could hit as hard as any boy I knew.
We had our own bridge to Terabithia,
our own kingdoms of knights and castles,
won the World Series with back to back homeruns,
settled the Wild West and discovered gold in the mountains.
My parents thought you were imaginary
until I bro

what would happen.
Should have guessed
in that first faint blush
of morning in my soul -
should have surmised -
should not have been surprised -
read the writing on
the wall of shame...
not enough time has passed
to feel the emptiness -
not enough words exchanged
to know the truth of it all.
All-in-all, all of it
is pain in the heart
where once a candle flickered,
kept me up at night -
warmth and longing
and good,good feelings
which I embraced in place of you.
I still hope
when hope is dashed.
I still love
while love is crashed
against the rocks of solitude
on your strange shore.
And only disappointment
appears on the horizon
to send me spiraling
like a lost bird in a storm
who once saw the sky
the welcoming haven.
I should have known.
City Night LightsI think it was the city lights andCity Night Lights3 years ago in Free Verse More Like This
the sound of speed
It was the buzzing traffic circles
and your sparkling azure eyes
It was all the shiny boutiques, little smoky cafés
and the spider web of narrow streets and secret short cuts
And it was you, my self-proclaimed guide, with your
hands in washed-out jeans pockets, wry smile
It was the scent of rotten pizza and
temptingly sweet but wickedly expensive candy,
the scent of white roses and too many cigarettes
It was the fluttering sound of cold-blooded thieving pigeons,
our roller-coaster screaming choir and your half-drunken
whispered lover´s oaths, 4 o´clock in the morning
It was the deafening disco beat, the sweat, the dance,
the rhythmic heartbeats of thousands of people around us,
it was the muggy air and your body, shaking with ecstasy
We smoked everything we could get hold of and believed
that reality was actually made of all these pretty colours
We were young and breathed the hot air of the roads
and the constant long

Better time for lovers,

A cool wind on my cheeks,

A young girl at her peek,

A better love for all to keep,

where sea spray

a dying song...

For on that shore,
all tears must dry
like sun-bleached bones -
our feelings die.

faults are surely few.
Black is velvet.
Greens are blue.
Sounds are clear

we see nightbirds fly,
hear insects hum -
its no surprise
that we may rest
without a care
where all is blissful,
all is fair.

Careful feet through
Come walk with me-

My Heart's QuestionIt rises up above me,My Heart's Question3 years ago in Traditional Fixed Forms More Like This
Laying here at night.
A question I can't answer,
That has no wrong or right.
Shining in the starlight,
Burning in the sun
I wonder if there's life,
In this thing that we've begun.
My daisy holds no answer-
It simply hangs its head.
The question is in my heart
That cries in silent dread.
Your eyes pour into mine
I wonder if you know.
Is this just an age old shrine;
Will you love me or let me go?
Singing the Same Old SongVerse 1Singing the Same Old Song3 years ago in Songs & Lyrics More Like This
I'm standing on stage with my band all the rage,
Singing my heart out tonight
Feeling the push and shove of the music
And everything feels all right.
But looking down into the crowd
I know you're staring back at me-
And I want you to think that I'm so happy
It was my choice to leave.
And there you go, dancing slow
To that song I wrote about you and me...
What can I do when I still sing for you
And you're no longer there to hear?
When our love song keeps playing on
And you're long gone?
Should I move away- Just not play,
Leave fame far behind
Or do I simply go on,
Singing the same old song?
Surrounded by these people
Everything feels fine-
With a future right in front of me,
A perfectly straightening line.
But I can't tell,
Is this a form of Hell?
'Cuz you're no longer here
Next to me...
You were my inspiration,
The source of all captivation
And I don't know why you
Now what we had is gone and dead
Still I can't get

His shout rang out through the playground, and I watched as those around him turned at the powerful yet innocent battle cry. Smiles were prominent on their faces as they saw him flying through the galaxy of his imagination, fighting bad guys and becoming a hero.
My eyes wandered over his audience, and came to rest on a young couple holding hands and whispering to each other. The adoration in their expressions was quite obvious to me as I scrutinized them silently.
A sharp pang tore at my chest, forcing me to look away. Tears were threatening to spill down my cheeks, and I found myself lost in memories.
“What’s a pretty girl like you sitting alone reading a book?” his ghost asked, a smirk stamped stubbornly across his face.
“Avoiding heartbreakers like you”, I replied. It was only as I met his crystal blue eyes that I realized he wasn’t like the rest, that he wasn’t going to leave me alone when I showed my fangs.
A Spider on My FaceLate one night, I lay in bedA Spider on My Face3 years ago in Traditional Fixed Forms More Like This
My pillow soft beneath my head
My eyelids flickered, and drooped in sleep
and so I drifted down and deep
So deep that I was unaware
of the rather cold and many-eyed stare
of a spider, large and very well-fed
who had decided to perch upon my head
Nonchalantly did he crawl
cautiously so he would not fall
Traversed my forehead to my cheek
And tickled it with his many feet
I stirred a bit at this slight caress
but did not wake, and so my guest
continued on his merry way
and sat upon my lips and stayed
It was then that I yawned and opened wide
and the spider unwillingly fell inside
Surprised, I spit the creature out
and screamed and yelled and thrashed about
Now every night I check the place
to make sure a spider won't wind up on my face.

The Canyon (68)I'm standing on the edge of what used to be called "us",The Canyon (68)3 years ago in Traditional Fixed Forms More Like This
It's nothing but a canyon now, full of broken trust.
To jump could mean that I would save not only me but you
Yet why is that not something that you have thought to do?
We try to make a bridge as the distance grows on stronger
What happened to the part where it makes the heart grow fonder?
So many things destroy the love that we try to build-
Is it really worth the chance that we could both be killed?
Just standing here and watching as you move on with your life
I see the crossings that you make with the sharpness of a knife.
I'll look across this gap we left when nights are dark and long,
Listen to the echoes of a perfect love gone wrong.

Her mind runs far away-
So easy when she learned to lie,
She had nothing to say.
Her hand holds tight to one last hope
And her spirit has long been broken.
But since he gave her a fraying rope
Her words are never spoken.
Hiding in her house of past
She has nothing but time.
She stares out windows of broken glass
And remembers when she was fine.
But every time the clouds come round
She worries more and more-
Could it be her fear to have found
Some peace within this storm?
As she steps out she wears her coat
But she's finally facing the rain.
She's letting loose of his old note
And crying away the pain.
Forget Me Not BlueVerse 1Forget Me Not Blue3 years ago in Songs & Lyrics More Like This
We were once a fairy tale
There was no castle we couldn't scale
And I was told you were the one
By a daisy in the sun
But since you're long gone
I don't know why I'm still holding on
And as you learn to move on
I pray you think about me too
And I hope my eyes
Are forget me not blue
Through the sun and the rains
I'll just quietly go insane
I wonder if I'll ever find
A stable peace of mind
Oh my daisy friend-
Will the questions ever end?
And as you learn to go along
I'll sing this song about you
And hope my eyes
Are forget me not blue

You sang the wrong words, you held the wrong tune, you picked a lousy song.
Your mind went crazy- Made the mistakes
Now you watch as we crumble, and slowly it breaks.
Everything you do, you see it turns out wrong
First you say it too quickly, say too slow, then make it far too long.
What your brains whispers sometimes makes it's way out,
