I dont believe in mentors, not all mentors are qualified to teach, they can misguide you sometimes. If you have a mentor it can turn you into his clone, i had seen tons of great artists that their technique wasnt good but they were more unique and after having mentor, their style lose uniqueness. Because be honest, we copy what we like, and usually we ask for mentors of people that style will enjoy the most.
For example you go and learn to play guitar with Slash, you will master the guitar at rock, but you if you wanna learn country, Slash wont teach you that, your hands will have the skills but you will have to start country from zero, and country its your style.
Sooner or later the technique of the mentor will consume you. Because errors are the things that

Why people think art should be cheapI mean some people even think that digital art should be cheaper than traditional, because there is no original. Why people think art should be cheap4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Its funny when people ask tons of things in a drawing, like 30 characters fighting a 12 dragons, and they think they can get it cheaper than a pencil drawing, because in the computer there must be a secret brush that makes all of this in 2 hours.
Sadly, painted style in digital takes more time than traditional. Artists says its easier, because you have more control. But sadly textures are cooler in traditional, and easier.
I remember 4 or 5 years ago when started thinking bout digital, i said damn if i learn digital, i will skip drawings and paint directly, this will make my life easier, it will take me less time to finish a product, like i can even finish 3 drawings in just a day, yeahhh i should try that.
5 years later, i was sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo wroonnngggggggggggggggggggggggggggggg.
So i used to think the same about speed, but not about price.

PE: 5 reasons to believe in yourselfSuccess is not a measure of how much money you earn or how popular you are, rather, it is being able to find your passion - one that makes you happy and ultimately, one that you would be happy to leave as your legacy. To make a step forward to reach your dream takes smarts and guts but why couldn't you? Here is five reasons why you can.PE: 5 reasons to believe in yourself3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
1. Everyone was born equal
More-less, this is true, some people are born more challenged than others but we all possess skills and ability to learn. It is possible to build something out of nothing if we really want to. It all comes down to our preferences and decisions.
"Nobody can make you feel inferior without your consent."
2. Overcoming your fears
By constantly challenging yourself, you can get rid of fears that used to follow you. You will no longer be worried, you'll know you can count on yourself.

When I first sold LMS to Paramount, a lot of people asked me: "How much money did you get?" "You're probably rich now, right?"
I mean, the solid gold mansion I bought was just a little gift to myself...but...
Ever since I was little, I've known I wanted to draw. From the day my parents put a pencil in my hand, this was my future. I just knew it, I had that gut feeling. So I stuck to it, and thankfully it took me to heights I'd have never imagined possible. Now with my new book Redemption heading off to studios soon for a hopeful movie package, I can't wait to see where this new road takes me.
That said, there's something else that tops all of this.
The other night I went out to visit my girlfriend's cousin and her family. Incredibly kind people with very sweet kids. Other than the two parents, there were 3 kids, but the one who caught my interest was the eight-year old boy, Diego.
Diego, shy, tiny, slender, reminded me of myself when I was his a

You'll now find comment counts underneath the thumbnails of deviations -- they can be seen when browsing or searching art, and also display in your Message Center. We hope this feature will help bring to light the fact that there is a whole world of activity that takes place behind thumbnails. In some cases, when a thumbnail displays many comments, it can be a trigger to join the discussion. Whi

DreamKeepers Volume 3 Review:icondreamkeepers: asked me to do a review of Volume 3 of their fantastic DreamKeepers series, and given that I greatly enjoy the series, I happily agreed.DreamKeepers Volume 3 Review2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Firstly let me just say that if you've not hear of DreamKeepers yet, you're missing out. The story is in-depth and the artwork is superb. There's plenty of artwork posted on their account that should get you interested.
Upon receiving the graphic novel in the mail, the first thing that struck me was how nice the cover looked. Something about it seemed cleaner and more refined, setting the tone for the rest of the book. Upon opening it to flick through the pages, I was hit with incredible levels of detail and vivid colours. DreamKeepers has always had fantastic amounts of care and attention to detail, but Volume 3 seemed like a step up.
Maybe three steps.
The story is no slouch, either. To summarise the story so far: the people (known as 'Dream Keepers') that inhabit the world each have a special power, but the use of these powers ha
[UPDATE V. 0.1] Object-tan Contest!:iconmikeinel: has offered to draw the top 3 winner's Object-tans How awesome of him, yeah?[UPDATE V. 0.1] Object-tan Contest!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I would like to announce an up coming contest! (I know this is out of the blue, the admins and I were contemplating it a while back but I think we're ready to take this on.)
The goal of the "object-tan" contest is to pick ANY object (Speakers, remote, printer... Lamp? ect.) and personify it, or turn it into a human(like) figure. Much like how Mike did for the Console Wars.
Now I think a big part of this contest is to go crazy, be creative and do things your own way. So there is no real restrictions. Just title the piece after the object you chose, and submit it to the folder I've set up for this contest.
August 20th (for now)
Enter as many times as you want! Make as many Object-tans as you want!
2014 CONTEST - Alternate Blonde! CLOSEDJUDGING AND POSTING THE RESULTS SOON2014 CONTEST - Alternate Blonde! CLOSED2 years ago in Personal More Like This
AND HERE ARE THE RULES
In this contest, you need to draw Agent Blonde. HOWEVER. There's a twist:
Here, draw your own version of Agent Blonde! And in your style too!
What appearance will she be like? How different will she be? Will she be a realistic woman, an anime-styled flat chested agent girl, or a big fat lady?! It's your choice, as long...
-She's an agent spy.
-She's a human.
-The design doesn't make AB look nothing like AB. :iconupdateplz:
-She needs the letter "A" on her. (the "A" she has in the reference is her zipper; here, place the letter to somewhere else; it can be more than one "A" to add.)
-Her beauty marks are optional.
-Make sure to use her color palettes.
-You can still change her proportions to anything.
-Change of personality is optional.
Guilty Gear Xrd ReviewI was trying to get this game in a disc for cool art, sadly could find it but i got it by DLC, i was happy that i can put this on my ps3, ps4 and if i had a vita in a vita too. Also was really happy to notice they give you an extra dlc character totally FREE. I was blown away by her design.Guilty Gear Xrd Review10 months ago in Personal More Like This
Okay so i downloaded the game, start it on ps4, no intro i was like ummm, then enter arcade, and i couldnt control my jaw, i had a smile all across my face, my hands where shaking, i was sweating like a groppie girl. This game feels soooooooo good sooo retro. remind me of my days in arcade.
Didnt got this reaction from streetfighter 4, i mean street fighter 4 is good, but didnt felt like streetfighter 2. But Guilty Gear feel soooo cool like old Guilty gear. I just love that the moves are skipped like if it was drawn by hand when you are playing it. Game looks gorgeous at 1080p and a solid 60 frame per second.
The music changes on the powers you are doing, this is the best soundtrack for fighti

Is Reference Bad?I feel like I've addressed this before at some point, in some other journal, but I find myself either discussing this with people a lot, or coming across people who on their work proudly claim to have "used no reference."Is Reference Bad?4 years ago in Personal More Like This
The biggest problem, and misconception, regarding references is that people feel like it's cheating or that it somehow cheapens their work. While I can understand the sense of accomplishment coming from using no reference to finish a painting or drawing, people who consistently do it are only hurting themselves in the long run. So in short, no, reference isn't bad.
Artists have been using reference since the days of the old masters. They would reference life, whether it be landscapes, objects on a table, or models standing in a studio. They would even reference their own sketches or other people's work in order create convincing paintings.
For some reason, a lot of people today seem to think that in order to be a good artist, they have to be able to do things without
