Honour Amongst Thieves ... Podcast?Let it never be said that Sak doesn't deliver!
Last Sunday I had a Skype meeting with Brendan Julian and Richard Johnston - the voices of Louis and James respectively from my upcoming animation - to discuss the finer points of Honour Amongst Thieves. As promised, I managed to record it and so without further ado, I present to you:
Honour Amongst Thieves
I was delighted to see the two of them got along so well, because their character interaction promises to be great this way. Unfortunately, Santiago's VA was unable to make it due to timezones, but perhaps sometime in future we'll be able to repeat this again plus one Spaniard!

feature journal. I'll be doing this every 2 weeks so this will allow the
feature art work to get a decent amount of views.
The feature journal is where I'll be posting some art works from artist
on DA that you guys suggested that don't have many views or favorites
and that deserve more. For the feature journal I have picked suggestions
for different category to make it more diverse.
Again, thank you allfor posting suggestions in my previous journal, sadly space is limited
so I will not be able to feature all the suggestions.
For the next feature,
If you have a piece from an artist that you really like and feel like

Painting, Drawings, etc please post below. Please make sure that they are

Animation Progress ....So I've finally begun in-betweening James's introduction sequence ...Animation Progress ....2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's consisted of hours of listening to him scream "Oh BLOODY HELL" and "DAMN IT!" into my ear.
James Hunter's Intro SequenceJames's Intro Sequence (in sketch lines!) is available for your viewing over on my Youtube account, here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IED8ZOGzpXc&feature=youtu.beJames Hunter's Intro Sequence2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's sound-effect-less, music-less, and not cleaned up at all, but I will be uploading each scene as I complete them so that the voice actors can see how their work is coming together. Perhaps it's also interesting for people interested in some of the processes of animation, as well.

For those asking, I'm animating directly into the computer using a Wacom tablet. The animation program I'm using is TVPaint Animation 10 Pro. Super expensive so I use the school computers, but it's like the illegitimate love-child between Photoshop and Adobe After Effects without Flash's niggling tendencies to crash every ten minutes. That program is sex. <3
Animation SituationI've been rushing at breakneck speeds to finish my animation in time for the official submission deadline tomorrow ... or, today, by now actually. However, there are still little fixes I want to make to Santiago's introduction scenes, as well as some revisions to the "finished" sequences with Louis and James, so I'm holding back on uploading the clips to Youtube.Animation Situation2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Until then, have some progress shots!
Shisha Pipes at Three A.M. ...There's nothing quite like sitting back on pillows in a dim room with painted murals and UV lights discussing the problems of the world and how we can change the future for the better through the aromatic smoke of several shisha pipes with complete strangers. I thoroughly recommend it to anyone.Shisha Pipes at Three A.M. ...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I feel like I can change the world. Maybe not in big ways, but in small, baby steps. I want to finish this animation, I want to get my message out. I want to make a graphic novel that underlines current issues through the eyes of my characters; I want to make a difference. I feel justified in knowing I'm not the only one who thinks like this.
I want to change the world.
... Damn, this sounded so much better in my head at 3a.m. in the cafe toilets when I thought of it.
Working @ UbisoftNot even kidding, though my contract is only for two months so far. I was offered a unique opportunity to work alongside experts in the industry, and was recruited for concept art, illustration, and storyboarding, bouncing around to see where I might fit with my toony style. It's only been day one so far, but I'm working right alongside professionals and get to learn from them first-hand. Pretty sure I'm still reeling. Obviously I can't tell you what we're working on due to confidentiality agreements, but it's pretty cool to see all the behind-the-scenes action my own self.Working @ Ubisoft1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Unfortunately, this does mean a significant stall in my (slow) progress on HAT, my animation-to-be. While working at LASALLE I literally spent every minute animating if I wasn't busy assisting teachers; now the only time I'll have to work on it will be when I get home, and on the weekends. Finishing the illustrations for Voltaire's upcoming children's book
If you are considering going into the industry....If you are an artist or want to be one, especially if you want to get into the VFX industry, you should watch this:If you are considering going into the industry....1 year ago in Personal More Like This
It touches on a few things I feel are important to understand as an artist and even as consumers of art:
1.) Art is not an exact science. It can be difficult to put a price tag on it, let alone the often very complicated processes of making it.
2.) Computers are tools that facilitate our work but they DO NOT do the work for us.
3.) Don't get into this industry for the money. If you go into this line of work, you do it because you love it. If someone happens to get lucky or has a really great idea and he/she hits it big, GREAT! Good for him/her. But don't go in expecting that to happen to you. Chances are it won't. If you are lucky, you will find a nice middleclass job you can support yourself and your family on for a while...... until....
4.) Unfortunately, a lot of employers see artists as disposable. When they no longer need you, they will kick you to the curb an

IT'S OKAY TO BE SAD OVER A CHARACTER DEATH. BUT KEEP IN MIND THAT THE REASON SOMEONE DIES IN MY COMIC IS BECAUSE THEY HAD FAINTED INGAME. BY THE RULES OF NUZLOCKE, FAINT EQUALS DEATH.
Seriously, I even posted my godamn battle notes in the video for comparision. It was not me purposely trying to kill off a character out of drama. It did happen and I am drawing a COMIC BASED OFF OF MY OWN GAMEPLAY. The reason it looks that way is because I was able to build his character up for over a year so you guys get attached to my characters. I wanted you guys to like them or at least know about them before some of them got killed ingame.
FYI, MORE DEATHS ARE COMING IN THIS COMIC. I cannot assure whether this will be right away or later, but KNOW of it. It's a godamn nuzlocke. As I said before, it is okay if you were legitimately sad about this. I'm sorry it had to go that way bu
New Program: MischiefSo there's this program called Mischief that I feel like not a lot of people may know about right now. I only know about it thanks to my tumblr dashboard.New Program: Mischief2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Hmm, to talk about it would be easier in bullet points so let's get to that.
Infinite canvas, resolution, and dimension. It's all specialized textured vector so no matter how small you draw you can export it to a .psd or .jpg of ANY RESOLUTION AND ANY DIMENSION which is pretty fucking amazing and helps those people who can't handle heavy programs or preset resolutions like in SAI or Photoshop.
It's like drawing on paper. Like to me it's really forgiving paper. The select tool is pretty much like a canvas cropping device-- you select and then you can export the selected area as the cropped image. Otherwise it doesn't do nice things like resize, scale, or rotate. (Just yet anyway, I think they're still developing.) So it's a good practice tool.
It's really smooth and pleasant to draw

The hardest part of any craft is getting the right tools. You've gotta learn the language of the trade, and that means getting yourself familiar with what's needed where. Culinary arts in particular can be so overwhelming. Most sugar craft books will tell you you need a long list of expensive equipment they'll use to make one type of adornment never to be used again. This can suck a lot of beginners in to spending a fortune on equipment that's not essential. And cake decorating equipment is exorbitantly expensive. I can go buy some lustre dust and a couple of cutters required for one type of flower and kiss $100 goodbye, so knowing when to spend and when not to spend can save you a lot of pain.

Featured Prints Artist: Stanley Lau
Stanley Lau a.k.a. Artgerm is a busy child as an illustrator, designer, concept artist and art director. Born and bred in Hong Kong, he soaked up his creativity and interest in arts early on and trained his artistic skills and knowledge ever since in a never-ending process. Filled with creative juices to the top of his head, Stanley is active all day with various projects at his Imaginary Friends Studios designing art and concepts for computer and card games companies, animation houses or comic publishers. He is also founder of his own advertising & design agency and a t-shirt label, and when Stanley is not working on any of these, he can be found playing video games across many platforms or the occasional karaoke session. We are proud to feature Artgerm as our Prints Artist of the Month in a very interesting interview.

If you said yes to any of those (esp the second one), we have a "Fashion Contest" for you!! Which may or may not be a way to keep ya'll distracted until the hiatus ends eheheh
Sounds like a fun contest and want to participate? Awesome! Here are some guidelines for the contest.
Draw any of the MoU cast (human, Pokemon) in an outfit that they would not normally wear!
Gijinkas of the Pokemon cast are allowed (dead 'mons too!)
Doing a crossover outfit entry is okay (i.e. KLK, SnK). BUT since creativity is part of the judging criteria (see below), please keep in mind that a entry with original outfits (or even outfits that take influence/reference to a show without copy-pasting) will be rated higher in that category.

For the Love of Ib So I have fallen in love with a horror game and that game is Ib (actually pronouced as "Eve" but try telling that to my mind). Beautiful in its simplicity of game play and amazing story-line, it is a definite must play. And it seems my admiration is not only limited to myself, as you will see the many spectacular artists inspired by this game! For the Love of Ib2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Some Information about the game
IB is a freeware horror game developed through the use of RpgMaker 2000/2003 by kouri and translated by VGperson.
The story revolves around Ib, a nine-year-old girl who visits an art museum with her parents. She looks around the museum on her own, and the lights suddenly began to flicker. She realizes that all the people have suddenly vanished without a trace. Ib soon discovers the mysteries of the museum, and the dangers that inhabit it. Source: http://rpgmaker.wikia.com/wiki/Ib

Writing, Reading, Blogging... 6 months in.This is going to be a bit of a departure from my normal journals. I'm one of those people that tends to pop up now and then in between projects and "update" everyone on how I am and what I'm doing... once in awhile I'll even post an art feature... but I don't do a lot of "articles". Today, at least for an hour, that's going to change. Why? Because after spending the last 6 months of my life blogging and immersing myself in the writer community, I feel I've learned a few things that deserve to be shared here on DeviantART, where the writing community tends to feel like a string of small, secluded islands.Writing, Reading, Blogging... 6 months in.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Don't get me wrong, DeviantART is GREAT for artists as far as community goes. There's an amazing amount of people here who do their best to help out their fellow artists and support the new ones. Unfortunately, the writing community here is a lot smaller, and a lot more... closed off. Most serious writers who post their work to DeviantART are met with a chirping cricket. People may rea

During the month of November each year, Movember asks men across the world to grow a moustache (or Mo') with the aim of raising vital funds and awareness for men’s health issues. Mo Bros are helping to change the face of men’s health by effectively becoming walking, talking billboards for the 30 days of November and through their actions and words raise awareness by promoting private and public conversation around the often ignored issue of men’s health. Together, we are truly changing the face of men’s health.

Want to Work in the Industry?:iconbobbie-the-jean: made a very good journal entry where she briefly discusses what to expect in the film industry, and I thoroughly recommend reading it to familiarize yourself with what it's like:Want to Work in the Industry?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I also recommend following her link to this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lcB9u-9mVE&feature=youtu.be which really drives home some of the issues with the demographic for artists/VFX in the world right now. As an animation graduate we are made aware of these discrepancies while still at college, and the hefty workloads and looming deadlines with zero compensation and lack of sleep could be considered a precursor to what we could expect in future.
A lot of people still seem to have rose-coloured glasses over their eyes in regards to what it must be like to be a "good artist" hired in the industry; this is the reality of it. You have to take the good with the bad, there are no guarantees, and you really, really have to love what you're doing.
