'Idols and Popularity' Disscussion TopicTHIS IS JUST A DISSCUSSION, OPINIONS ARE WELCOME'Idols and Popularity' Disscussion Topic2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Let's talk about "Idols" and "Popularity" on deviantart..
To be honest, I had to agree with thousands and maybe millions of others...that A B and C were the most page viewed, thousands of watchers, deviation faved gods...I thought their art were worship worthy.
Yes, I enjoyed capukats, rinermais, griffsnuff, rai-doos, smusheys...so on so forth's art. But what i realized that when I visited other artists page., they ALMOST HAD THE EXACT "Idols" and "Artists I love to be watched by" lists.
I MEAN WE MIGHT AS WELL SAID "ARTISTS I WISH I WERE LIKE" "ARTISTS' TALENTS I WISH I HAD"
I mean it was like a virus...it was very sad to see many young and older artists post on their "idols" page:
"I wish i had your talent.."
"My art never will be great as yours"
"Your art is so cool. Can we be friends?"
"How did you draw .... can you tell me your secret"
"How'd you get so
In Defense Of Making A Living Through ArtThere's a frustrating element I've noticed lately in regards to Art. "Art with a capital 'A'", as a friend of mine calls it. And I suppose this blog was triggered by the cancellation of the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fan game Fighting is Magic. The fandom lost its collective shit because Hasbro sent the developers a Cease and Desist letter. The entitlement was just amazing to watch, and even worse was the sheer ignorance. Some of it stupid, like "Technically, all fanworks are parodies, so it's not illegal!" and "Copyright laws are so stupid!" to cruel, like "They can just take their development overseas, then Hasbro can't stop them!"In Defense Of Making A Living Through Art3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I was baffled by this. Because Hasbro had the right to protect their intellectual property.
See, I've been a freelance artist for a while now. And it's hard. It is so freaking hard, and part of the reason it's hard is because the default attitude of most people you deal with is, "We're not, like, going to pay you a lot. Or give you i

Feel free to request any flags that you think would be a good fit on the list or that you'd like to display on a userpage.Project: Flag5 years ago in Personal More Like This
HOW TO REQUEST FLAGS: I take flag requests for more than just countries. If you want a flag with something on it don't hesitate to ask. I only ask that people request one or two flags at a time. How to get more watchers, views, comments +more.(you WONT get famous from this, please.)How to get more watchers, views, comments +more.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So I always get a lot of questions asking how I have soo many watchers or so many faves or so many comments or so many whatever else! I have been on this site for about 6years or so now, and during that time i have evolved as an artist, and I have also changed as a person.
People on here always tell me how "jealous" they are of me, which I dont see at all. I am only here to draw art and improve myself. I really am not here for the attention, even though I thoroughly appreciate it (dont get me wrong!)
Every person has something their good at, better than someone else. Even if you haven't found it yet there is something that YOU are good at believe me!
It has taken me a long time to get my "art" to what it is today. Am I 100% happy with it? NO. But will I continue trying and improving in the hope that one day I will reach my goals.
So should you. So Maybe this will help you get more noticed on here I dunno, but I guess continue reading if you do!

A reference guide on bookbinding typesA reference guide on bookbinding typesA reference guide on bookbinding types1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
When I tell people I'm a bookbinder they often think I make only one type of book; the library kind. That, however, is only one of the many ways an artist can create a book. For me, it's a fun challenge to pick the right binding style to go with the purpose of the book. Whether it is a novel that needs to look really classy or medieval, a sketchbook for a graphic novelist or a paper about connections that lets me show the binding. In this article I'm going to tell you a little bit about all the types of bookbinding that I know. I'm not going into details but, if possible, I will link to images and tutorials that do.
If you're here for inspiration: this guide is pretty long. I recommend scrolling through the images first!
To make a start...
The different ways of binding books can be broken down into two general groups: adhesive bindings and non-adhesive bindings. Adhesive b

The Copycat EffectI've been browsing around da for a long time and it really bothers me when I see accusations flying around of people either copying styles, chars and even names. The Copycat Effect3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I mean, seriously? A name? No one can claim a name, sure, it might look similar to yours but maybe it holds a special meaning to them and not because they just want to steal a slice of your fame. There are more than 7 billion people in the world. But then, I would have to admit, there are times when they do intentionally copy someone and it's just really easy to tell.
I think the real problem here is the fame going into people's heads. I've seen people trying to make their styles similar to other famous deviants only because they want to be a bit more like them and become popular. It just really bothers me because you can tell if someone is trying a bit too hard to be similar to someone else. I've even seen people change when they know that they are becoming someone on DA. They get a bit ruder, perhaps some
We are not our Labels! My mom has now been studying teenagers and teenage behavior and stuff, and gone to classes and everything on how to be a mom, she has now gotten a "license" so to say, and can hold classes where she tells others about her experience on being a mom and what that takes, one day my mom came and told me this then followed up by saying "what is your opinion on this? do you think I have been a good mom". I remember it was so hard for me not to spill out everything, that I think she failed me as a mom, and that she has done nothing to earn that respect and title. I just looked at her and said "Do what you want to do" with a tone in my voice secretly saying "I honestly don't care, just leave me alone". some weeks past (maybe a month or two) and she started to bring this pedagogical stuff into the house, I see countless books on how to be a good parent, how to make your teenagers productive and willing to help. all I see from these titles are grown ups who have labeled theWe are not our Labels!2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Good morning everypony, or afternoon, or evening, depending on where you are!
We're not going to waste time on introduction, let's get right on the subject. ;3
We, SRZ-Nuaro and LisaOrise, had decided to manage a contest. With desirable prizes. The task is simple: you need to draw our MLP characters: Firework and Lil Swirl~
We are the only judges.
The most important holiday is coming to Canterlot - Feast-Day
This exactly is the subject of the contest. BUT with two sub themes. One: preparing and two: the holiday itself - the meeting with idols. We present you the timetable which tells you what exactly is going to happen:

You'll find souvenirs here for Canterlot's visitors, as well as scarves, ties, jewellery. Also fair amount of freshly baked food, sweets, and drinks.
13:00 Princess Celestia's triumphant speech.

A little story...Wanted to share this story with you guys, and future creators:A little story...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
After getting out of a slump, I wanted to share this story of something I went through a few years back. Bit of a read, but thanks for sticking through it
As you know, Comic-Con is arriving and as I prepare for it, I grow more and more anticipated with anxiety/joy in regards to the re-release of Last Man Standing.
As long, challenging, and mind-opening the creation of LMS was, something really stuck with me.
Before I had created LMS, I wanted to work for WETA Workshop. To those that don't know them, they've created props, designs, sets, costumes, and more for The Lord of the Rings, Avatar, District-9, Elysium, The Hobbit and many more films.
I was obsessed and inspired with them. The creator, Richard Taylor was always a huge inspiration to me. After viewing supplements on the Extended Editions of The Lord of the Rings DVDS, I knew right there: I HAD TO WORK FOR THEM.
So I al

Should You Become a Professional Artist?Community WeekShould You Become a Professional Artist?9 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Do you enjoy art passionately and are considering doing it as your job, but have some worries such as;
Will I enjoy it as much as a job?
Will it be hard getting a job?
Will I become a starving artist?
If you're like me, you're asking yourself those questions and are letting them give you a hard time deciding whether or not to pursue art professionally. My health teacher told me, as we digressed from our topic of smoking, that to know whether or not you want to do a job, you have to hear what it's like from someone who's already doing it. That's why I decided to do an interview with professional artists on dA to give me, and hopefully many others, answers to these burning questions and an idea of what it's like to be a professional artist.
Okay, well let's get to it then
This is quite long so if you'd like to jump to a section, here are the questions I aske

The Myth of TalentThe Myth of TalentThe Myth of Talent1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
If there's one comment that is made more often than any other on any decent piece of artwork it's "you're so talented."
It's also the one [positively intended] comment I've seen the most artists bristle at, sometimes even retort. For some of us, it's a pet hate. Why?
We know it's meant as a compliment, so we smile and say thank you and try to resist the urge to insist that 'talent' is the biggest myth there is. Not only is it a myth, at its worst the use of the word is potentially destructive to the artistic community.
What's so wrong with the word 'talent'?
You might not realise it, but calling someone talented can often feel like a backhanded compliment. No skilled artist woke up one day just being able to do what they can do. We were all born completely unable to do just about anything useful. But through daily practise we learned how to use our limbs for motility, our voices for words, an
