More of my Nuzlocke adventure!

I've actually had these three pages sketched for weeks. I had originally planned to continue the game a bit and possibly make this part into a four page update, but it is (or was, midnight went an hour ago) my last day of summer vacation and I wanted to get something done to the point of finished, so here you go.

Roger's Soothe Bell was changed to Shell Bell, which turned into a belt since come on, there isn't much neck on the bat thing. (Fun fact, in the fight with Barry's grotle, I actually avoided using Wing Attack in game, although it is a lot stronger move than Air Cutter. Doctor told to take it easy on the wing, and I'm gonna do it even if it affects the gaming itself.) ...It's been rather rogerrific lately anyway, hasn't it? And to think there's a fighting type gym coming up...

And Päike has officially caught up with the team! She is few levels lower than the rest of them, but she can fight her own battles now. Yay!

Okay, going to bed now. Tomorrow's (still counts as tomorrow, I haven't slept yet) the first day of school again (oh, gee, I'm third year student now!) and I kind of want to be awake at class.

Wait, what happened? I was supposed to do something completely different, and suddenly it’s 3 AM and I have three pages of Pokémon. Whoa.

Roger demonstrates how efficient the packaging of folded wings is, a wild headache appears, and not much else really.

Wonder why it is, that every time I encounter and catch an unown in Pokémon games, it's always the D-shaped one. Always. (Too bad they can only learn one move, it would be fun to draw more of it.)

And on names again, Dee is pretty obvious, Bala was a random name that happened to pop in my mind with no origin story beyond that, and Sulka is Finnish for feather.

My Nuzlocke adventure continues! Been a while, hasn't it?

Nothing too big or interesting this time I guess, but dang it felt good to get to draw the guys again.

Poor Max, his status as the number one 'mon got challenged. But seriously, Fantina's gym left Osamu just a pixel on EXP bar away from hitting level 30, so the first thing that he fought on the next route and POOF! I got myself a luxray. (Actually Molla was one level ahead of Max too, but don't tell that to him.)

Really, though. I imagine training to get stronger is waaaaay easier for the rock types in those caves than for the zubats that really can't do anything to fight back. Rock is super effective against flying after all.

Visiting the graveyard tower reminded me how lucky I've been on this run, only losing one pokémon so far. Not for the lack of trying, though. The game has given me a fair share of heart attacks, but I guess my paranoid grinding has paid off. At least so far. Let's see how far I can get without losing another buddy.

Oh, and on names again, Kuiske is Finnish for something like "whispers/whispering".

I have no idea why I've never used Return before. I mean it's an attack that can have 102 in base power, and adding STAB (Same Type Attack Bonus, meaning pokémon using a move that's the same type as the 'mon itself gets the move's power boosted by 50%) it's THE strongest attack there is on the whole team at the moment. Sweet, sweet destructive power.
(Also Päike is clearly a Molla fangirl.)

Pancaaaaakes!

A bit shorter installment this time. I have sketched several pages ahead and was planning to put up more than just these two pages, but in the end I decided to go back to re-sketch the next pages. I sketch these pages while I'm playing, so I pretty much end up just documenting what happens, but it made the dialogue of a certain encounter on the next page sound stiff, unnatural and stupid, so redraw it is.

Say hi to bidoof number four, and a new teammate that actually got to the team. And for the first time ever I finally have a full team! 8D I was kind of hoping to catch a buneary, mainly because I just love drawing them and their evolved forms (those ears! So much love for the ears), but I'm no poké-racist. Wyrm is good too.

Wyrm was named after my butterfree from HeartGold.

And I swear, that every time Roger ended up fighting with a budew it was either critical hit or the budew flinched (it took two normal Bites to take them down). Every. Single. Time. Quick, hide your flowers, he's going to eat them all! (Even his pokedex says about his personality: "Loves to eat" and "Happily eats anything" although I think it refers to poffin flavors instead of actually anything but still...)

Also here, have a Shale being cute:

Why did nobody tell me how fun Gravelers are to draw? Anyway. More Nuzlocke adventures ahoy.

I have no idea if the bike shop owner or Lucas’s dad have actual official designs, I was too lazy to go check for reference. Their designs are made up by yours truly. Shame the bikeshopman doesn’t have a bigger role in the games, I’d love to cameo him again sometime. (The tattoo he has is a flaming bike wheel with clefairy wings.)

Wyrm left on “step-maternity leave” and made me feel bad for putting her to PC (I’m gonna miss drawing her. Those shapes!), but on a lighter note, the team now has a new hopefully permanent member. I’ve never trained a ponyta before. This should be interesting.

On names again... Burghess, well, you remember how Shale was named after the Burghess-Shale fossil site? Yeah. The creativity is outstanding here. Päike (or Paike actually in the game since the stupid lack of umlauts) as far as I've understood is Estonian and should mean sun or sunshine. And it sounds adorable (to me at least). The clefairy reminded me of Persephone of the Greek mythology, but I named her using the Roman version of the character's name since Persephone is way too easy to shorten as Perse, which is a Finnish word for ass. (The bodypart, not the animal, I'm afraid). And I've always wanted a zubat named Igor, but unfortunately I had forgotten I had intended to use the name when Roger was caught. And Nova came from "ohgeesh, this needs a name now. Whattodowhattodo... It's newborn, so new, right? That's nova in Latin okay goodenough".

Adventure continues!

Molla evolved! I'll miss her old bidoof ears, although I do like her new tail. Osamu grew up a bit too!

And my first ever wild shiny pokémon ever! (I do have a couple of shinies in my White game, but they were a gift. This is the first time I've ever actually encountered a shiny myself!) The comic doesn't really do justice to my reaction (which included a lot of random high pitched noices, rubbing it against my brother's face -figuratively- never mind he doesn't have a clue about what I'm talking about and texting a friend of mine) but it's close enough. Why now, why on the run when anyone can die? D8

The couple of Finnish words don't really need explanation to be understood, but just in case:
Perkele = one of the best and most traditional Finnish swear words.
Jumankeuta = "omg"
I do avoid cursing when I'm online, but I do occasionally swear like a sailor on my own language in real life, and actually finding a shiny felt like an appropriate occasion to let myself slip. Apologies.

Auri was named after "aurum", a latin word meaning gold. Since come on, the thing is black-gold-yellow, you can't expect me to be original at a time like that.

The police dude looks a bit different here than the last time he was seen, I actually bothered to check up some reference this time.

Team Papermonkey; Screwing up team Galactic's things anywhere.

Extra drawing:

Also check out this awesome fan art by ~Noneko! Molla is in there, all evolved and awesome! 8D

I’m visiting my family, which means that there’s plenty of time to draw Pokémon. So guess what I’ve been doing!

Oh, man, I was so afraid of that Skuntank! When I last time played Platinum long before starting the Nuzlocke, the thing wiped my entire team something like four times before I could take it down. I really didn’t want that to happen again, so I had trained Shale to be on equal level to it before I dared to go challenge it. She was the only one on my entire team with an attack that was super effective (of all the seventeen types, it's only weak to ground), but luckily she has the highest defense of the team.

You’re a hero, girl stone! Have some marshmallows.

And now I’ve finally caught up with the comic, so I can continue gaming again! Yay!

My Nuzlocke adventure continues!

This is seriously all I've been doing this past week or so during my loafing around at my family's place. Eating, sleeping, watching anime with my brother and playing Pokémon. I counted that during this week alone I've actually sketched full 20 pages worth of this comic! I can't believe this amount of productivity. Still have to ink them, but at least here's the first four. Enjoy!

Caught two new team members (I honestly have no idea of what made me press Bubble to attach the first encounter geodude at the cave between route 203 and Oreburgh, I should have known it would go like this. On the other hand it also marked the first ever one hit knock out in the entire game. I'm not entirely sure whether to be proud or facepalm myself.)

Osamu was named after Osamu Tezuka, since the shinx line's design was a tribute to him anyway (or so I've heard). Shale was named after the Burghess-Shale fossil site since the it's awesome, and I love the way it sounds.

Also man, I never believed I would get so close to lose my starter at the first gym, where I had type advantages and everything! 5 HP! Asdfjklösrklifhejldhb!

Some silly extra doodles from around this part here: [link]

My Nuzlocke adventure continues! This time including couple of random encounters and Roger Wing Attacking the grass gym all by himself. Wyrm and Max only took part because of EXP. I love my bat-thing.

Sorry for the filler on the second page. I sketch these pages out while I’m playing the game, so I mostly just doodle down exactly what happens in the games. Which can make for pretty darn brainless NPC encounters. Cynthia originally just monologued here for few panels and left, but it felt pretty unnatural and stupid when read afterwards. So it got extended a bit, but I couldn’t make up enough to fill a whole page (aaand I had already kinda started inking the page after it, so I couldn’t change that one anymore) so the rest of the page was left empty. Untill it somehow magically spawned a sketch of Cynthia’s Platinum team (so no Gastrodon. Snif). Which I liked. And come on, how often do the games grant the opportunity to draw Spiritomb anyway? That thing is insanely rare. Or Garchomp. Those are awesome too.

My return to my appartment at Lahti got postponed by a day to tomorrow, so got one more chance to ink and scan some Nuzlocke progress!

Roger evolved! The fresh crobat and Osamu take care of Fantina’s gym. Roger takes his new form to a test, and seems to be absolutely thrilled by the results. Here, have a moping bat.

(Well, okay, actually Roger mostly got spammed Psybeam at, but Shadow ball looked more dramatic to draw. Apologies.)

Crobat is fun to draw. So is Mismagius. Actually, since I seem to repeat that all the time, let's just say that all pokémon are fun to draw and leave it at that. The designers sure know their ham! All those shaaaaapes!
