How to make good comics: FailMaybe it's because I'm a (self proclaimed) comic artist, but sometimes people come to me to ask for advice about how to make good comics. How to make good comics: Fail3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Aaaaand to be honest, I have absolutely no idea.
That doesn't stop me from trying to! My brain has a bit of an excitement rush right now since I'm going to leave for an almost-week-long road trip tomorrow with some friends which really makes me want to do something completely irrelevant to anything ever, so have some of my typical rambling again! Been a while, huh?
I bet many of those who ask how to do good comics want to become great comic artists as soon as possible, but actually, I think that one of the best things to do to become a good comic maker is failing. Yeah. Failing is something everyone wants to avoid, as if failing meant instant death or something, but it's something that really isn't all that easy to avoid. (Yeah, failing is embarrassing, which is why people who look like they're good don't show their fails.) And actually I
Wurr - the first five years27th of June 2007 the first page of Wurr was uploaded online. Today, five years later, what had originally been planned as a mere three page short story with the option of branching out aimlessly has turned into an actual story with a driving plot with 147 pages already existing and two books even printed (English version is under working). Half a decade already. Wow.Wurr - the first five years3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Happy half-decade birthday, comic!
Man, it's been a long way. And even more still lies ahead, let's see if I can wrap it up before hitting the full decade mark.
Since it's kind of a special occasion, I thought it might be fun to look back to how it became what it is today.
I had wanted to make a comic of my own for something like ten years before Wurr even started, and I had had several started projects in the likes of "this is the greatest idea I've ever had in my life! I must make a comic right now", none of which ever got past their third page. It's funny, before Wurr I always advertised and talked about my comics and
Can I take a few moments of your time?I just want to say a few words. Words I've been wanting to say for a while not but haven't had the much-ness or know-how to say; mostly because I didn't want it to come off as just another one of 'those' journal entries. One easily ignored. Can I take a few moments of your time?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Firstly, thank you to all my watchers, followers, and fans. I rarely say 'fans' because to me one would have to be famous to have fans but it seems more or less over the last couple months (or years even) I've become somewhat infamous for all the wrong reasons. More so when it comes to my small circle of friends.
You see, I don't get on easily with others, not online or in real life. More so in real life, mostly out of fear I suppose... But that's neither here nor there. Back on track.
What I'm trying to say is just thank you, for putting up with the crap I've pulled, the misery I've brought on through countless grueling journals about how crap my life is, this, that, and the next thing.
A huge thanks out to those who actuall
Top ten WORST Disney Sequels: 8!8) Pocahontas II: Journey to a new worldTop ten WORST Disney Sequels: 8!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Once upon a time there was an animation company named Disney, that made our childhoods awesome. They reached their peak when their animated film 'Beauty and the Beast' became the first animated feature nominated for Best Picture in the Academy awards, and just when their luck couldn't be better they released 'The Lion King' which became one of the highest grossing animated pictures of all time. During this streak of awesome movies, Disney became overly ambitious and desired yet another Best Picture Oscar. Instead of perfecting the formula they were best at (fairy tales) they decided that they needed to be extra pretentious to snag that Best Picture Award, thus 'Pocahontas' was born. Now how can a company who is known to adapt fairytales going to adapt a real life story? By making it extremely historically inaccurate of course! Audiences were bored, critics were unimpressed and Pocahontas was shunned as the black sheep of the Disney Reness

Kitten says, Top 10 most annoying character tropes9) THE SEX SYMBOLKitten says, Top 10 most annoying character tropes3 years ago in Personal More Like This
NOTE: This only applies to stories that have complex plot lines that are meant to have the reader emotionally invested and not aroused (Not Hentai).
What is it?: The 'sex symbol' is a character that is only there for fanservice and to be sexy. They are usually unbelievably attractive with a 'flawless' anatomy and complexion. They are a token character that the main character usually hooks up with, or is a cheap way to keep the reader interested.
Why is it a problem?: Okay so I'm going to start off by saying, I'm not condemning sexy characters or characters who are confident with their sexuality. I actually worship sex symbols like Marylin Monroe or Rita Hayworth, or sexy cartoon characters like Jessica Rabbit. Having a sexy looking character is not a problem at all.
What I find a problem is that if this sexy character is just present in the story as a cheap way to get readers, and is just there for fanservice. Let's

Foo!? Where are you?! Oh, dang you're fast! Thanks for that save back there, but what the heck was up with that rex of a Pokemon?!
I... I’m not really sure what his problem is, but this jungle’s always been pretty harsh. But enough about that. We need to find where all of the villagers scattered off to. I’m pretty certain we’re actually in the middle of an island, with all this water around us no matter where we go...
Island?! But we're not in the middle of an ocean... are we?
No, it’s not like that. I think we’re next to a giant pond. Rather, in the middle of it. I know Prismatic Jungle has one of those, so I think that’s where we might be. It’s colorful enough for that, anyway. My grandfather did more traveling than I ever have... he would know for sure. Hmm, well, we

(big thanks to my friend Eleweth who give me permission to copy her Journal about this)
Q. I really want a commission, but I don't know how to pay for one. How can I pay?
A. I accept PayPal, this is the safest and quickest way to pay, however I do accept money by mail but it has to be EUR unless I say otherwise.
I am not responsable if your money gets stolen, lost ect.
Q. Do you ship out the original artwork once it's completed?
A. All artwork is mailed out to the commissioners unless they don't want to pay for shipping.
Q. Is there anything I can do to make the commission process easier?
A. Yes, a reference of your character and description would be great, this allows me to fully understand your character.
Q. When will you start my commission and how long will it take?
A. I will start your commission, as soon as I have been payed
The Disney Vault - Aladdin's motherThe Disney company has never been too kind to mothers. Usually they are killed off, evil, absent for the most part of the movie, or very bland. Most of the most popular Disney characters have no mothers and usually the reason for this is because they clutter the plot or take the story to an unnecesary direction. The Disney Vault - Aladdin's mother2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Here we have Aladdin's mother; Widow Twakey (http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-TP2zUNCFwRI/Tw4GuLPFkCI/AAAAAAAABb8/SkdjBn8dr-E/s1600/tumblr_li711o1vFV1qayzh1o1_400.jpg). Now this deleted character really interested me because by looking at her scenes it seemed that Aladdin was going to take a more serious tone. The frist script of Aladdin was drastically different from the final product and was changed due to Jeffrey Katzenberg's (the CEO at the time) demands. So Aladdin's mother was cut off and so was British Iago. This change allowed the Genie to be a stronger character since Widow Twakey's lines and purpose was shifted to him. However, the Genie is a comedic character so he do
500 WATCHERZ CONTESTSorry for the double journal post but WOOOOOOOOOH. 500 watchers means something special: A CONTEST!!500 WATCHERZ CONTEST3 years ago in Personal More Like This
But this is no ordinary contest. You see I'm in the process of developing an elaborate world, but it lacks species. So here's how it's gonna go down.
Here is a color scheme: http://sta.sh/0hndf89pszr This color scheme is the basis around one of my characters who is making appearances in all the different dimensions of dA/fandoms/everything. For our purposes, her name is Tarina.
You'll find her Experiment form here: http://fav.me/d5kguz5 and her Chimerling form here: http://fav.me/d5jgf2q And even though it is not on the color scheme, if she has a humanish form or a beast form with hair, the hair is always white. Also, her skin is always darker, ranging from black and tan. Patterns vary, as you can tell, as long as those colors are used.
So here's the deal. Tarina needs a form in my new world, which will be called the Water Forest (for now). But
The Disney Vault - Frozen review'Conceal, don't feel...'The Disney Vault - Frozen review2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Hey everyone! So I finally saw Frozen, and I can at last share my thoughts. Keep in mind that this is my opinion and if you disagree it's fine as long as you don't be a jerk about it. I want to share my thoughts directly without sugar coating anything and if you are not fond of any criticism regarding this film then please do not read. Oh and by the way, there WILL be spoilers later on so watch out for the tags.
'Frozen' is this year's Disney film, and right now it's getting a lot of positive reviews and people considering the next 'Beauty and the Beast'. While I do not think it's a bad movie at all, I do not think it's as strong as 'Beauty and the Beast' in terms of characters and story structure. While it does have that vibe in some places, it's not by any means one of Disney's strongest. HOWEVER, this film has a lot of really positive elements to it that are a good step in the right direction and it also offers Disney's most complex
Top 10 favorite animated ladies - 1!1) Harley Quinn (Harleen Quinzel): from Batman the Animated series voiced by Arleen Sorkin.Top 10 favorite animated ladies - 1!2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I'm having a BAD DAY! I'm sick of people trying to shoot me, run me over or blow me up!
So we have arrived at the end of my list, and the number one spot is occupied by no other than the flawless Harley Quinn. This character was so likable, so dynamic that she stepped up from being a throw away side character to one of Batman's most popular and memorable villainesses. Harley got her start in the Batman animated series but she was such a big hit that DC considered her canon in the comic verse and she was used in multiple spin offs as well. While there are many versions of this character (and many voice actresses), my favorite has always been the original.
To those who do not know who Harley Quinn is or are unfamiliar with the Batman universe, I shall enlighten you. Harley Quinn is the Joker's side kick and girlfriend. She is insane and completely obsessed with him even though she'

Account namesContinuing from my last journal about the account name changes: http://wolfpearl.deviantart.com/journal/Random-302659187 with some rambling.Account names3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm pretty much in the process of changing my online name, have been already for a while, although not in a way that could be called loud in any way. I've just started to use Papermonkey whenever I need to talk about myself in third person and see whether people pick it up. I don't mind being called WolfPearl, though, I don't despise it or anything and it has been my online title for about a decade already anyway, so there is some nice amount of familiarity to it. It just doesn't feel as much like me as Papermonkey does. Aaaaaand WolfPearl originates from a brain fart from my teenage years, which is pretty good about reminding how bad of a writer I was back then.
I used to have this fantasy story totally-going-to-be-a-novel that was THE AWESOMEST BEST THING EVER (and ripped off about twenty different things all at once, including Harry Pott

I thought I was a good artist before I was. I acted like a professional before I was. I put out my first instructional video before I started working professionally. I was working professionally when I didn't know what I was doing. I acted like an extrovert when I was an introvert. I acted like a businessperson when I hadn't made a dime. I acted like a marketer when I hadn't sold anything.
