A Note About The Flaming Pony.Hi hi everypony!
So, I get asked a lot of the same questions, as I'm sure you can all imagine, and sometimes I can answer them and sometimes I can't. Lately I've been getting asked about Wild Fire and why she was changed in one of the last episodes, if we'll ever see her again, and how she came to be in the first place.
Her first appearance in the Canterlot Wedding ep, wasn't much of an exciting story (none of this is, I apologize). After seeing the cleaned up storyboard (which I believe that part was drawn by Marshall), I noticed that the one pony looked almost like Wild Fire. For shoots and giggles, I went to our art director and simply just asked if we could try and make it WF for laughs. And it worked. It was as simple as that.
While work had begun on season 3, I was approached by my good friend Wootie (and co-director) asking if it was okay to use WF as a Wonderbolt Cadet for the 307 episode. They needed a few more designs, and I agreed that it would be fine. So yes, up until the
Merry Christmas!Just wanted to wish each and everyone of my friends and followers a Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays/Whatever you may celebrate! And if you don't celebrate anything, then I'm still sending love and hugs to you all!Merry Christmas!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
This year has been full of crazy ups and downs for me, unfortunately more downs than ups - but that happens sometimes. Been going thru a lot of HUGE life changes in the past short while and I want to extend my thanks again to EVERYONE who has supported me throughout all this. It means more than you'll ever know. Here's looking to a brighter new year and to starting over.
I'll be leaving for Christmas vacation tomorrow and won't be back till just after the new year, so again, I wish you all a very happy Christmas and safe New Year. Also, please don't be alarmed if I don't respond to messages right away...I'll be away from the computer for the next week. Besides, this is a time to spend with family and friends and those you care about!
Take care everyone,
Lots of love,
Scratch's EyesThe TL: DR is that Scratch's eyes as seen in the show are the same as Dash's. But here's a wall of text and helpful visual aids to help explain.Scratch's Eyes2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Magenta is not red (and it's not really violet either).
For reference, this is Dash's eye pulled right from the official artwork (and ergo how I made my color guide). The eye gradients are always composed of at least two to three colors, and they all go from a darker to brighter luminance. It never goes dark-light-dark, though it can certainly change hue.
I've also included a screengrab of Dash from the show.
The flash assets used in the promo sites are the real deal from Studio B, the web people are not reinventing the wheel (and anyone who says otherwise hasn't actually dug into the flash files in the past). This has been the case since day one of the flash promo sites. But for argument's sake, I'll repost the ripped elements.
Now, to be fair, I'll grant that there may be some color management issues (given that Flash is, generally, not colo
The Scope of CreativityThis is a response to the article The Rise of the Artist. While the article itself is a pleasing ego-rubbing of underappreciated artists, it is also somewhat short-sighted in the definition of creativity itself. The author simplifies the people to two extremes - the Creative and the Logical. The Scope of Creativity9 months ago in Personal More Like This
The Logical people are the thinkers - the "analytical, objective people as computer programmers, engineers and lawyers." On the contrary, the Creative are the artists and idea-men.
I believe this concept is fundamentally wrong.
There is no difference between a good programmer, painter, lawyer, musician or engineer. These are all simply people who use the combination of experience, information and creative thinking to tackle a given problem.
A programmer might want to find the most effective way to solve a logical riddle. A musician wants to find the sequence of tones that convey
What's new?I haven't really done any apparent work in the past who-knows-how-many weeks. I didn't do any animated images, I did no work on commissions and I haven't even created a single static picture. What's new?9 months ago in Personal More Like This
I've been working on AniGen.
This project started as a simple script that took a bunch of arrays and created an animation to the users liking. I followed up with the creation of an interface that was used for lip-syncing. Simply put, you'd say how long the mouth would last in the selected shape and which shape should come afterwards.
When I finished that, I started playing with transformation animation and hit a bit of a wall.
I found out that I could easily adapt the interface to move objects around instead of changing variables. The problem was that while the user could plan the movements, export the SVG and use it in inkscape, the system had many flaws. There was no frame of reference, the animations were tied to a given group one would have to add his own items into and the creation of an

Floored. So I was just going thru a folder on my desktop that contains pretty much every single piece of fan art I've gotten since this whole pony craze began. And I sat back and stopped and realized - holy hell, this is just...amazing. I mean, every time I get something new, I am so flattered at the fact that somebody would want to take their time out to draw something for *me*. It boggles my mind, but I love each and every one of them...regardless of skill level.Floored.10 months ago in Personal More Like This
I just had a moment where I just felt completely moved with happiness at the thoughtfulness and generosity...and I just wanted to say thank you AGAIN to everyone and anyone who has taken time out of their daily lives to be creative and share that with me. It means the world.
Keep it up
Some thoughts. Here are some of my thoughts, I wrote them last night, I don't know why exactly but I just wanted to share it with you, most of them have been acquired by my own experiences or from other deviants'. Most of them have helped me, so, I recommend you to think about them a bit:Some thoughts.4 months ago in Personal More Like This
-1000 watchers doesn't make you famous, in fact, the number of watchers doesn't measure your popularity, the feedback and critique you receive does.
-You can go far with original characters, as long as they are interesting.
-Drawing fan art is not necessary to acquire fans to then start drawing your original art, but it is an acceptable method.
-Pageviews mean nothing, they're just a number, maybe they are just haters visiting your page.
-Most of your effort will eventually be rewarded.
-Don't forget your roots, if you get "famous", don't stop watching the kind of people you used to watch when you started here.
-Don't be afraid of being controversial and/or to shout out your opinions.
-A (fair) bad review on your de

CAN'T DONATE?? You can still help! JUST CLICK "LIKE" ON OUR INDIEDGOGO PAGE! The more activity our campaign gets, the better chance we have of being featured on the front page. If that happens, we'll have far more exposure to new people than ever before.
