Activity at Chase Labs Inc. had been limited to government contracts and projects that were maintained but not creating much news ink. Ever since a terrorist with wheels took over the facility and a rogue scientist called himself The Director and attempted a citywide terror spree two years ago, very little had happened at the lab that didn't involve hammers, nails, plaster and scaffolding.
It was a fine Thursday morning, and the sunlight of the day revealled the many changes that had taken place. Multiple improvements had been made, both in the facility's lower levels and the outer perimeters. A brand new guard house had been constructed with state-of-the-art communications systems, security card and facial identification software, and barricades that could be deployed instantaneously to any approaching vehicular threats. Camera systems monitored the perimeter, and the ultra-shielded fencing system was secured to all but the most determined vehicles.

Nobody seemed too anxious to converse about what had happened, and once atop the elevator shaft everyone each returned to our seperate rooms.
Before heading back to my room, I made my way out to the beach where Shelly was laying face up and looking up at the stars. She was using her dry blue jeans as a pillow, and she curled her tailfin slowly as she gazed comfortably.
"You look quite content," I said.
"It is so wonderful here... there's so much more to see on this side of the continent," Shelly replied.
"Is that so?" I asked.
"Look there... that's Aries, isn't it?" She pointed to a spot towards the north.
"Sure is. But we can see Aries from home," I replied.
"Yeah, but you can't see that," she said, pointing out a spot to the right.
"Which one is that?" I asked.

I believe in throwing out junk mail once it is discovered to be such. But Shelly... well, she doesn't really know what junk mail is quite yet.
So, when she got a letter from the Atlantis resort in the Caribbian for a free trip for two with reduced airfare, I did my best to discourage her, even though the deal was decent.
I had just gotten home from work and brought in the mail, and began to sort it out. Although, most of the mail is usually mine.
"Mail's here... let's see... Claxion, Claxion... ooh, Nintendo Power... Claxion... I may have already won a million dollars..." I tossed that one into the nearest garbage, and then continued, "Claxion... Shelly? Shelly... interesting," I said as I tossed the rest of my mail onto the dining room table and called Shelly.
"Shelly? Got some mail for you," I said.
I looked at the envelope. It was smooth like a magizine, but didn't have any return address. Not quite sure

I resisted the urge to share this with Michelle, especially when Collette gave me strict orders not to after an account of her first two weeks in Florida. Well, I'm terrible at keeping secrets. Especially when it seems like I've told the story before.
Sorry, Collette. I'm only so good at keeping things like this a secret.
Apparently, the story of Tiffany Sheffield starts on the 30th of October in Oak Ridge, Florida. Two chemistry classes teamed up to visit Ulnar Labs, a small-time local lab complex in the greater Orlando area that performs various robitcs applications and test systems for Disney Animatronics, as well as a newly discovered purchase of a combination matter ray from Columbia.
"And this is our optics lab, where we are planning a test of that new top secret beam that you see under the tarp," Dr. Ulnar explained. The students looked through the glass door, to a scene of boxes, tall mechanical arrays and a parked car

As I loaded up my bag in my bedroom, Shelly came into the room and hugged me.
"I wish you didn't have to go," she said softly.
I sighed. "Shelly, it's not that I have to go, I suppose, but this is something I want to do. And you told me that you had to work, right?" I asked.
She nodded, and I felt her chest move up and down along my back as she did so. Not sure what she was trying to accomplish there.
"And you also told me that you'd be okay with staying at my dad's place for the weekend so you didn't have to sleep alone, right?" I asked.
There was more movement along my back.
"And I've already missed one writer's confrence. This time, I was able to find it in the paper soon enough, and I'm going. It'll only be for a few days," I said.
"But why do you have to go this weekend? Mr. Han said he'd give me time off if I asked him in advance," Shelly said.

"I didn't hear anything," she replied.
"No, I suppose you didn't... feeling anything yet?" he asked.
"I told you, I don't change into anything," Shelly replied.
"Right... I'd better turn it up then," he said. He adjusted the thermostat again.
Michelle's gaze drifted down towards her hands, which promptly turned into wheels. Whod have guessed that a lab in the tropics has a furnace? And one that reacts so quickly, too?
"Gregory...?" she began.
In the main room, Deanna also began to change. As her wrists changed, the handcuffs broke and fell to the floor.
"Dr. Vanderson?" she began.
"Really, Deanna, just call me Dr. Leo. At least this way I won't have to worry about your aggression issues," Leo said.
Behind the partician, Michelle tapped her wheel on my back.
"We need to switch," she whispered into my ear.
I looked over my shoulder, and saw that her hands had changed. "Right," I
Claxion in California Ch 4In the morning, Michelle woke up earlier than I did and began preparing some cereal in the kitchen. I came down some time later, having heard the sound of the radio.Claxion in California Ch 46 years ago in Science Fiction More Like This
Morning, I muttered, as it was about an hour earlier than I wouldve usually stirred around.
Oh, did I wake you? she asked, as the classical station played in the background.
No, no, you didnt. I should be up and getting some boxes ready anyways, I said, also getting some cereal.
Okay then. I was going to ask you- do you have any shampoo we can bring along? I think Alex mightve taken it back with him, Michelle replied.
Isnt there any up there? I asked.
Not much. It seems pretty empty, and I have a different preference, you understand, she replied.
Well get a chance later to go out for some things. We can make a stop by Target- not only will it have ever
Claxion in California Ch 8We turned in early that night. Leaving early in the morning, we followed I-15 most of the way, until Michelle suggested I take route 91 west and 55 south, which led directly to Diego City instead of cutting through the entire Los Angeles suburban sprawl. At around 7 in the evening, we got off on Main Avenue as I followed her directions to the Chase Lab complex, which was on the west end of town.Claxion in California Ch 86 years ago in Science Fiction More Like This
Right through this gate? I asked.
Yep, youll need to open your window, she said as I turned off the radio.
Identification, please? the guard asked, since he had never seen me nor my van before.
Here, I said, showing my drivers license.
Its okay, Charlie, hes with me, Michelle said, leaning over.
Oh, hello Miss Peyton. Here ya go, the guard said, handing me my license back as I replaced it into my wallet.
Thanks, I said as he raised the gate.

Shelly and Janessa approached, but this time the car didn't automatcially open for them. Instead of putting everything into the trunk, Shelly placed the bags into the back seat.
"Nice to see you both again. Are you ready to head to Needles?" Summer asked.
"We are, Summer. You missed out on quite a meal," Shelly said.
"I am quite full, and I have never been a fan of restaurant booths. They're too small," Summer replied.
Janessa giggled. Apparently she was beginning to lighten up.
"We should arrive in Needles by around nine o'clock. Shall we?"
Both girls climbed in and closed their doors. The seatbelts automatically clicked and they were on their way.
Jerry quickly rushed back to the parking spot, but Manuel had already moved the SUV to go fill up.

Did you wait to ask me this until after Alex left? Michelle asked.
Well, I thought about asking it earlier, but wasnt sure how to go about it. But really, what do you do all day? I asked again.
Well, first off, just for the record, I am very good friends with Alex, but Im not attached to him. Okay? she asked.
I nodded my head. Okay, but is that your answer?
She giggled. I read, mostly. Once in awhile Ill watch a movie or play a round of pool downstairs, in between little craft projects that I like to do. I have gone to the beach before, but not since I gained my little ability. In fact, even before then my friends and I didnt go very often, Michelle explained.

Ya...! Ugh, Summer? I asked, in a muffled voice.
Huh? What is it? Summer asked.
Nothing, just got startled, thats all... when did this happen? I asked.
Just used one too many blankets by accident. If you could turn up the air a little, thatd be great, Summer said.
Uh, sure, I replied, turning the dial.
Does it bother you sleeping next to a car? Summer asked me.
Maybe a little. Does it bother you sleeping as a car? I asked.
Nope, done it before. At least until I remembered to check the central air before going to bed every night, Summer replied.

Where do you want to stop tonight? she asked.
I hadnt thought about it, but I was wondering if wed be able to get to the Grand Canyon, since were going by it, I said.
Grand Canyon? Actually, that would take us 100 miles out of the way. Theres nothing on the north side; the park is to the south. Be better to get it on the way home, Michelle replied.
Oh, youre right. Well... then, Im not sure. I dont want to try for California tonight, itd be better to stop early and let the van rest a bit, ya know? I said.
Michelle nodded. Yeah, I know what it feels like to drive all day a few days in a row, it gets tiresome, she replied.

"But Deanna, sweetheart... it was clearly laid out in the contract," the scientist began.
"There was nothing about actually becoming a car!" she cried again.
"Now relax... you don't want to break anything!" the scientist cried.
A tire went flying out the side of the tent, as the second scientist went rushing into the dressing area a moment later.
Several moments passed, as Shelly and I watched pieces of the 'car suit' go flying out of the tent, sometimes through the fabric.
Deanna later came out, wearing only the silver jumpsuit and shoes. The four wheels and car parts had been forcibly removed.
"It is hot enough out here, isn't it... what are the rest of you waiting around for? Your leader is waiting!" Deanna called to the pit crew that had helped her out of the suit inside the tent.
They had also changed her back by dousi

"I really should've grabbed the mag light," I muttered.
Shelly took off her shirt and night clothes, revealling her two-piece swimsuit. "We've tried it before, sweetie. It doesn't work underwater."
"I know, but it's just so cool seeing light down there," I whined.
With a smile, she slipped off her shoes and left them next to her other clothing on the beach. "You have the pearl, right?"
"Of course," I replied.
"Wait... bring my shoes, I may need them," Shelly said.
"Got it," I replied.
She sprinted out into the surf and dove into the water, as I troddled on behind carrying her shoes. A moment later she crested the surface.
"Ready to go underwater?"
I removed my pearl from the pocket of my swim trunks, and held it in my hand. "Ready."

Its not a problem, unless you have nosy neighbors, Michelle said.
Not really. I dont even know half of them, I said.
Shouldnt be a problem at all, then. Hold this please, she said, handing me the purse.
Sure, I said, taking it.
Do you need anything too? she asked while doing some push ups.
Travel stuff, mostly. Maybe a current road map too- so we can take it with and plot our route each day, I replied as her hands changed into wheels.
You wont get lost, will you? she asked, as she proceeded to change into a car.
Are you kidding? Ive been reading atlases and maps since before I learned to read- in fact, I learned to read maps when I was 2, and books when I was three, I replied as her tra

We just need a little turbo thrust, thats all... aah! Michelle gasped as her fingers slipped their grip on the wheel. Her hands suddenly morphed into tires. She tried to hold it steady between her tires, but to no avail. She slammed on the brakes, but then her feet also changed. She jumped from the chair and leaned onto one of the seats before she became wedged in place. Pattie! Take over!
Pattie grabbed the wheel and fought to keep the bus from rolling over. I cant drive this thing!
You dont have to, just park it! And open the door! Mic
Leo Quits Ch 5Next door, Pattie and Shelly had been talking with Dr. Chase.Leo Quits Ch 55 years ago in Science Fiction More Like This
"If you say she seemed like she was in a daze, she probably is. Michelle is usually much more aware of her own abilities than she was at breakfast this morning," Dr. Chase replied.
"That's how we came to that conclusion, doc," Shelly said.
Pattie nodded as well. "What should we do? What if she's been given some of those serums Dr. Leo has been working on?"
"I could come up with an antidote if I had access to the lab... but that won't be easy if Dr. Leo is indeed behind this. Also, I have no idea where the shuttleway to the lab is," Dr. Chase explained.
"Isn't it underwater? Maybe I can go scout out the lab... there might even be another way in," Shelly suggested.
"Of course! Come on, Shelly... go put your swimsuit on. We'll get some snorkel equipment, hopefully it won't get too deep right away," Pattie said.
"Yeah! Um... where

"Explain to me again how this works, Gregory?" Michelle asked.
We were in the basement playing Wii Sports. For some reason, no matter how many times she tried it, Michelle just couldn't get the basics down.
"It's tennis. You do know how to play tennis, right?"
"Yeah, of course I do. It's been a long time... but don't you have to run around the court?" Michelle asked.
"Sure, in real tennis. This is Wii tennis! No running," Shelly replied.
Michelle adjusted the controller in her hand. "Just like tennis... serve ball, hit ball. Don't let it stop on your side? That's it?"
"That's it. You want to play with me or Shelly? Or are you ready for a one-on-one tournament?" I asked.
"Wait, first you have to put that strap around your wrist. Otherwise you might drop the remote and it'll fly into the television," Shelly said. She made sure her own cont
Leo Quits Ch 2I had already phoned the taxi company, and by seven an airport cab had arrived to cart the three of us to the main terminal. Yes, I could've gotten a lift from a family member, and yes I could've saved twenty bucks... or we could've even gotten there for free with Michelle's help. But none of these options seemed possible at the time... we were all too tense. In fact, it seemed that not one of us was even brave enough to speak to one another during the cab ride. Just like that, we were on the next Delta Airlines flight to Miami International. Luckly, it was an uneventful four hour flight.
Once at the Miami terminal, we passed through security and went to the gate that Dr. Chase had asked us to meet, Gate 24C. As expected, Dr. Chase, Bret, and Pattie were already there waiting for us.

I glanced towards my man boobs with a irrated expression. Okay, so I'm not exactly an Adonolus. "I could ask you the same, but I wont go there. What's all the knocking about?"
She adjusted her t-shirt. "I can't find Michelle... she was chasing someone, I thought I'd better get some backup."
"Were she and Shelly at the pool? And why would she be chasing someone?" I asked.
"I don't know... but it seems suspicious," Carrie replied.
I grabbed a t-shirt and threw it on before collecting my room key. "All right, show me where."
We walked down the hall, past the main lobby and restaurant to the spa area. Then, she paused.

"This is no time for jokes!" Bret moaned.

"And besides, Bret, we will keep your secret," Alex said.
