...I Write to a Dead General...I Write to a Dead General6 years ago in Traditional Fixed Forms More Like This
I write to a dead general
To ease surviving pain,
A tear falls on the page -
A drop of desert rain
Like balm into the waters
Of lifes too bitter cup,
Tipping the scales of history -
To raise you slowly up.
Above your long-gone victors
Above the scorn of time
Above blind crowds and mockery,
With my ill-written rhyme.
I dont know if youll hear,
But Im doing what I can
To get this through to you
Past time and wind and sand
May the gods watch you in battle
My dear and long-dead friend
May the desert nights be warmer
And steady be your hands
Meanwhile Ill watch the picture
Of a kind-eyed weary man
And rue the sorry fact that I
Already know your end.
Helicase Helio and I were always sitting on the stairs, chatting about the lamina and occasionally making snide remarks about ribosomes. There wasn't much for us to do. Our job was to simply be, and let the RNA polymerase scribble down the letters on our foreheads when they came around every once in a while. Helio was a G, I was a C. It wasn't exactly fulfilling, I suppose. There wasn't much to be filled. So to pass the time, we talked.Helicase2 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
"You ever wonder?" Helio asked.
"About...well...what's out there." Helio and I were rooted to the stairs, quite happily, but it was awkward to move in. He kind of twisted in the general direction of the closest pore. "Out in the cytoplasm."
"I haven't," I admitted. "What's there to wonder about?"
"That's exactly the thing. I have no idea." Helio sighed, gazing into the distance. "Somehow it feels like we pl

Forgive me for this letter, love.
My heart is breaking.
This affair has been heavy on my heart.
You deserve this confession,
It's tearing me apart.
It's not you, it's me.
Isn't that how it always goes?
Lover, I hope you understand my plea.
We met some time ago
And I fell so damned hard.
I just...I felt that you should know.
She's the drug in my veins,
I can't get enough, I'm mad with desire;
It's time to break these chains.
I came home last night,
but I never really left her place.
Please lover, understand my plight.
The pull has become impossible to resist -
I have to go back, I NEED to go back;
I've fallen for this terrible tryst.
I've had my chance to roam,
But shes calling my name baby;
Its time to go home.
I have a lover on the side...
Her name is War,
My combat bride.

The Korean population has by now been reduced to bands of squabbling scavengers. With no international organisms powerful enough to sway the superstates into a cause and fearing the spread of diseases caused by biochemical weapons, Eastasia doesn't help the survivors.
-The Neo-European Union imposes itself diplomatically and economically over the post-Russian republics and smaller nations. Numerous diplomatic conferences are had throughout the course of the year between the rulers of the failed states and the NEU's mastercomputer.
-By the end of the year, the talks culminate in the dissolution of the Neo-European Union as it becomes a much larger state: Eurasia. This new superstate quickly becomes the second most powerful nation on Earth after Eastasia. Russian nationalist resistance manifests itself in the form of sporadic terrorism.

I sit at home wondering if it's you
I wonder if I'll ever see your face
If you will ever make me laugh again
My heart in my throat
Every time the phone rings
Are they calling to say it's you
Will I be without my father?
I need you daddy
It's not fair
All the other little girls don't feel this
They don't worry
If daddy will come home or not
In a wooden box
Or not at all

You play too much Ace Combat? You play too much Ace Combat?7 years ago in Humor More Like This
After a research made trough different forums and website dealing with the gaming subject "Ace Combat"... we found out that this game can cause a serious change in a persons personality and behaviour. This happens often because the players of Ace Combat are often to addicted to that game.
You play too much Ace Combat when:
-You downloaded from the internet all the soundtracks from Ace Combat... including the one of Ace Combat Advance and even the ripoff soundtrack from AC6 demo.
-When a friend of yours convinces you to do something, you reply "Let's do this Garuda 1!".
-You pick a favourite country of AC world according to your own nationality; USA=Osea, Germany=Belka, Russia=Yuktobania, etc.
-You don't find an AC nation comparable to your country, you create your own new country in AC world and you make a whole new Ace Combat version.
-When you're on the shower or bored you normaly whistle, but you whistle AC5 and AC6 main themes.
-You're counting the days until the Circum-Pacific War

He questioned why I cried
To him I answered:
I joined, because actions are louder than words
But I failed to make a difference.
He scoffed slightly, and belittled me:
What did you expect, when you wield an instrument of death? Your fight is useless.
You only destroy everything, and never save anyone.
I looked right at him, no longer mourning
And what have your words done for mankind? Your talks of peace?
Have your words fed those that starved? Have your words brought families back together? Have they quelled the rage of those who wish death upon their fellow man? What have you done, you who belittle my actions?
While I did what I thought was right you criticized me, my every move.
Saying I should've done this, or shouldn't have done that.
Yet you stayed here, safe in your little home. Spouting random facts,
Saying I kill and die for an economical goal. A secret agenda.
To you, I may not be right
But at least I tried

Everybody. Fall in!
We are marching in rank and row.
Everybody. Fall in!
Do you know the radio-operators-song?
It´s about the radio messaging,
and about love as well.
Everybody cheerfully join in the singing!
Sing along comrades!
In the small town,
lives a girl,
and we all love her so much,
because she has two blue eyes.
Blonde hair, seventeen years,
say what more do we want?
As we are from the radio-operators company,
and we always send out: I love - I love you.
And all the girls are listening to it:
Dee dah dee dit, dee dah dee dit ("L"ove)
Although the service is tough,
and the carbine hurts,
we do never despair.
Whether the hand is aching,
or the sand is crunching,
the sweat is running down the face.
Then a song strucks up,
through the rank and through the row,
Everybody cheerfully join in the singing!
Sing along comrades!
In the small town,
lives a girl,
and we all

Imagine learning that there are over a billion people in the world, one sixth of humanity, who follow a religion that you never really studied in school. This little known religion is called Islam. Perhaps you’ve heard the name before or developed some opinions about it based on what you’ve seen in the news. However, if you’re like most people, you might not know a great deal about Islam. Well, you’ve taken the first step toward understanding more about this mysterious way of life, and you may find yourself pleasantly surprised to learn what it really teaches.
Islam shares many of the same characteristics that are familiar to followers of Judaism and Christianity. In fact, Islam considers itself a related ideology that fits into a tight chronology with these two other religions. As the population of Muslims rises in many Western countries, and as many people discover the impact of Islamic civilization on Western thought, sc

In blizzard or storm,
Or in sun warm and bright,
The day hot as hell
Or bone-chilling be the night,
Our faces may with dust be laid,
But spirits never fade,
No, never fade;
Relentless, our tank
Thunders out on a raid.
With engines a-howling,
Fast as is the wind,
We head for the foe,
Safe, as we're in armor skinned.
Our comrades still behind us roam;
We fight the foe alone,
Yes, fight alone.
We stab through the line
To break the foes backbone.
Whenever the foe
May appear in our sight,
We'll ram throttle full,
Then we'll humble all his might!
Of what use is our life if we
Our country serve freely?
Yes, serve freely!
To die for our country,
Our honour shall be.
With tank traps and mines,
Our foe tries to impede.
We laugh at his ruses;
We know he'll not suceed.
And when, in threat, his cannons stand,
Half hidden in the sand,
Yes, in the sand,
We can find our way
Over much safer land.
And should at long last,
Fickle Lady Luck leave,
And we remain here,
Leaving family to grieve,

one does not need bullets,
nor does he need bombs, or tanks.
All that is needed to kill him...
Is to tell him he has nothing.
Tell him his loved ones left him,
tell him his family abandoned him.
Tell him he is worthless.
He will break, he will falter.
Then soon, he will die. Alone.

When lacking something better to do,
The shunned child often delved into daydreams--
That beautiful, potent, mystical creature
That twists and weakens alongside caged minds.
Warm emerald eyes would peer down from high places,
And soon be accompanied by those of amber.
Blue and grey were soon to follow, watching with their freezing orbs,
And lastly a dull hazel would gaze tiredly at the dirt.
Fascinated by the many shapes they took,
I would wander into them and pretend they cared about my presence.
A flicking wrist would turn into a sword,
Never eating flesh or bone and never shedding Dragon's scales.
As a child that Dragon was a friend, anyway,
Who would give me tender kisses and pats at its appearance.
It's a shame we fear that gentle creature now...
And the sweet wind against bloody cheeks,
Unraveling dark brown ribbons as it lifts me higher--
Above the restraints of Earth and insecurities.
The protectors of Hades followed my commands,
Able to soothe and murmur untold secrets;

"What this time?" Mel asked. Mel hadn't seen Jessie since January, and here it was May, and they'd finally managed to get together in their favorite coffee shop. When they both graduated high school, Jessie had went away to college while Mel stayed behind, getting a job and an apartment on her own. Neither of them had ever liked the idea of college (Jessie perhaps even more so than Mel), but Jessie's parents had had higher expectations for her than Mel's had. Mel rolled her eyes at Jessie's statement about her parents. They were paying for her education (or at least they had been) and cared for her in a way that Jessie often overlooked, yet she still managed to find fault.

He turned a corner, hoping by Lucifer that it was his ticket out, but his silent pleas went unanswered as he skidded to a halt at a dead end.
Gunshots rang out behind him, quickly followed by the sound of high pitched, reverberating metal sliding out of its sheath and the sickening crunch of slicing through bone, echoing down the alley. The fiend turned around, and counted his comrades as they gathered into the little alley, seemingly the stage for their last stand. He felt sweat drip down his red, almost muscle-like skin. Why Free Market Capitalism FailsIn this essay, I expose the flaws in the two mechanisms that are supposed to power the free market: Adam Smith's invisible hand and trickle down economics. The notion of the invisible hand holds that in a free marketplace, the buyer's self-interest will tend to drive the price down, while the seller's self-interest will tend to drive the price up, so that both parties' self-interest will naturally cause the price to settle on an amount that both find reasonable. Trickle-down economics maintains that the rich are the ones who start and expand businesses and hire employees, so the laws should favor them increasing their wealth as much as possible so they can hire more people, thus growing the economy. Why Free Market Capitalism Fails3 years ago in Philosophical More Like This
