Her mane is made of Apoxie Sculpt, sanded down, and painted with Apple Barrel acrylics. I had to cut off her horn in order to place the mane on her head and then glue the horn back on through the hole in her mane. Her crown is actually her original one the toy came with but I cut off the sides to make it shaped like how it is in the show and painted it with gold acrylic paint. The anklets and collar are also painted gold. Her wings were painted entirely pink and then I dabbed some purple on and gave it a fading appearance which was HARD to do. I sealed everything that was painted with Mod Podge. I was going to paint the rest of her body the proper shade of pink but I got lazy plus it would mean having to repaint not one but two cutie marks (which would be tough considering the complexity of her cutie mark) and probably even her eyes which I just didn't feel like doing. She turned out good in the end although someday I may feel apt to giving her a second cutie mark like she deserves.
So yeah, that's Cadance and I do like how she turned out my first time around. Hope you guys enjoy her as much as I do!
Part of an answer to a question on my Tumblr blog: [link]
It's hard to chose favs but I think Pinkie has always been my favorite. She was the very character I saw that got me into this show so I owe her a lot. Heck I wouldn't be a pony if it weren't her to begin with! :3
As you can see she really enjoys riding on my back. We both love sweets and laugh a lot too so I just know we'd get along well. We could even take over the world!
Ink Jet (my OC), Twinkle Toes ('s OC), Lyra Heartstrings, Queen Chrysalis, Princess Celestia, Gilda, Photo Finish, Cheerilee, Big Macintosh, Soarin, Spitfire, Trixie, Shining Armor, Vinyl Scratch with magnetic glasses, Vinyl Scratch, Apple Bloom, Sweetie Belle, Scootaloo, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy, Twilight Sparkle, Spike, Rarity, Applejack, and my ponysona.
Yup, that's my collection of customized MLP ponies that I've made so far. Some of them have been recycled from previous custom ponies like Fluttershy and then there are some that aren't actual customs like Applejack but her hat is customized (which I need to redo). Twilight is a minor custom as her hair is only painted darker and that is it. Some are really extensively done like Chrysalis, Celestia, Big Mac, Photo Finish, Gilda, and my pony. Rainbow Dash would be here but I took apart my old custom of her to try and make my new one but I still haven't found a good enough body for her yet so that will have to wait. Sorry Dashie...
I figured since I am going to be selling some of these that I should go ahead and take a pic right now for memories and to show everyone how much I've accomplished in around a year. Enjoy and stay tuned for more!
I redid my Rarity custom as you can see. Not the same one as the first one I did a year ago but I was going to put the mane and tail on the body of the old one. The body of the old one had her horn removed so I could use it for my new Vinyl Scratch custom and I got rid of her old mane and tail and threw them out cuz they weren't too good and now I have an extra hornless Rarity for custom fodder.
This Rarity is a huuuuuuuuuuuge improvement since the last one! I was very proud of how the shape of the mane and tail turned out, it almost looks like OtakuSquirrel level! Well, maybe not that much, but it's pretty darn close! I put a lot of blood and sweat into sculpting them too, there as a lot of sanding and carving done! I think I'm getting used to that though, now I realize the hard work customizers go through but it sure pays off in the end! The paint job is beautiful too! It is just plain purple all around cuz I am not sure I can do the gradients in her hair but the shade is just right and the Mod Podge sealed it off well! Her hair may look too light of purple in this but that's just because of the lighting of my camera.
So anyways, I hope you guys like it and I'm working on Shining Armor and soon Cadance hopefully. I will also see if I can get Rainbow Dash done soon but I might do all of this once I graduate which will be in...............OMG, TWO WEEKS!!!!
The odd thing is that I have had her tail and mane done for over a month now but I had trouble finding a good Dash body. I didn't want to use the body of that old custom cuz it was too beaten up and the new one I found was to greyish and discolored so I used it for my young Celestia custom. Well now I'm glad I waited that long cuz I FINALLY found a Rainbow Dash with better eyes as you can see! It was a crystal pony though so I had to repaint her eyes a bit which wasn't too difficult.
As for the mane and tail, man were they hard to paint!!! I've never had to paint a mane and tail so carefully and precisely! I've always said how she's the hardest to draw and well now she's the hardest to paint a custom mane and tail of! But at least it's done.
Overall I do like how she turned out and now I have the Mane 6 back again.
And before anyone asks, I used Sculpey III oven-bake clay for the mane and tail, painted them with Apple Barrel acrylics, and sealed them with Mod Podge.
Got Shining Armor done! I'm really pleased with how he turned out and the hooves were tough to paint but they turned out good! The tail is a bit big but it's shaped just right. I feel like making an armored version and a wedding version someday and knowing me I probably will. When I get the time I'll do Cadance to go along with him.
I posted a version on Tubmlr without flash if you're interested: [link] My butt looks too shiny in this. XD
So my custom ponysona/pony OC is done and he.........well, I am looking great! :3
It is a custom because I use a pony toy as bait to make it but it's almost more of an original sculpture as you can see. The only part of him that actually looks like the real pony toy are the ears, I didn't sculpt over them. Everything else was covered entirely in Sculpey III oven bake clay and painted with Apple Barrel acrylic paint. The hair, goatee, and tail were all sculpted and painted separately and then super-glued onto the pony body. It was then sealed with watered-down Mod Podge. Also, the tail has a tip of a launching missile I got from one of my Transformers so it can fit in a hole I drilled in his butt with my dremel. And yes, you can in fact bake ponies in the oven, just remember that it must be 275 degrees Fahrenheit and for about 15 minutes. The plastic is floppy when it comes out but after a few minutes of drying, it is back to normal.
I love how he turned out and the cutie mark wasn't as bad as I thought it would be either. Looks just like my pony and the fact that I was able to do my own original sculpting rather than just add a mane and tail and a little bit of bulk is quite impressive. And as you can see I sort of drew some inspiration from other amazing sculptors like Dustysculptures and BlackoutComix. The eye brows are 3D and I painted those using a black paint marker. I even made his butt more real rather than having the standard round thing like the toys do. His front hooves are a little big but my ponysona is chubby like that so I guess it fits. And I absolutely love how I pulled off the mane, I was afraid that would take forever to figure out!
Well, there I am. Hope you guys like me and sorry but I am not for sale.
Well the other knight I took the de-horned body of my old Rarity custom (the first one) and cut her in half through the torso and then put a big wad of clay around her rear and chest to make the body a bit bigger and wider. She looked pretty ridiculous at first and extremely fat so I had to add some bulk to the legs as well and then before you know it I was resculpting around the head and then made the mane and tail and goatee. I've sanded it down and all that needs to be done now is for it to be painted and then sealed. It could be quite a nightmare painting the eyes and eyebrows though so it's not something I am particularly looking forward to. The mane is also hard to put on.
But overall I am very pleased with how this turned out and it looks JUST like my pony! The face was tough to get right but it seems to have worked out pretty good and I am so excited to see what he..........well, I look like when it's done! It's funny how this was originally supposed to be a simple custom but now it's practically turned into an all out sculpture just with a pony acting as the supporting skeletal system and only the ears are what is visible now.
Stay tuned for more, I should have him fully painted either tomorrow or the next day....
