Unleash your dark sideIdk if many of you know, but when I was younger I got bullied in school for what I enjoyed, I bring this up because of what recently happen to a kid for liking MLP and being bullied for it, to the point of almost taking his own life.Unleash your dark side2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I hated school and people in general, I know there's no real easy way to handle it and everyone takes things differently.
But I want to encourage those that do have problems to try to your best to vent with your art even if people around you won't listen..
I know it seems silly now and weird. but back when I was bullied and ignored, rocketchu and growlash was how I got out my anger that I felt to the ones that bullied me.
sometimes it can be fun to play the bad guy through art, to get your revenge that way or at lest it helped satisfy my hurt and anger back in high school. I used them to make my art work even better.

My name is Denise Maritato and I was born and raised in New York. I have been drawing ever since I could hold a pencil with the support and encouragement of my grandmother, a fellow artist. In 2005, I graduated with honors from The Pratt Institute with a degree in Communications / Graphic Design.
After college, I completed a two year internship at a fashion company in Manhattan NY where I designed clothing tags, labels and packaging for hand bags and accessories. I then went on to design balloons for Anagram International and finally found a home working for Amscan Inc. designing halloween costume packaging for the retail chain Party City.

The Allure of a Red Dress
Maybe it’s being the color of blood that makes red such a strong color, especially when displayed in public. It is exotic–a matador’s cape, or a vampire’s, or a flamenco dancer’s skirts. Most women have their “little black dress” for evening’s out. Black tells no secrets. It’s on the occasion of the “red dress” that we suddenly wonder what’s on the someone’s mind.
The message of “red” in novels, films and music is passion barely controlled, of sexual temptation. It is a flashing warning light. Plastic surgery made John Dillinger

How to become a good artistA. Work hard and learn the basics of drawing (composition, perspective, anatomy / shape, color theory, volume / light, etc.). You can not call yourself an artist who knows, yet does not become so. Ideally, you just have to know these basics, but to master them. And when mastered, will not only knowledgeable, but confident and authoritative artist. This applies not only to beginners but also for advanced and professional artists. Many artists have experienced bottlenecks - for example, one might well draw still-lifes and landscapes, but in knowledge of anatomy and form of the human body can be zero. You can learn a lot by improving their basic skills and knowledge. I just have a weak spot on which to work on.How to become a good artist3 years ago in Personal More Like This

New old JobStarting this month I will be working again in my old beloved job as a freelance illustrator and painter. There were many factors that this place was pretty awful. The boss had hired me as a designer for his products (specially Shirts). Finally, I had to make calculations the whole day on ancient monitors which flickered so hart that I couldn't see much at the evenings. I didn't make drawing there too, particularly no materials for it were available in the company. Nevertheless, the boss had ideas for drawings,New old Job3 years ago in Personal More Like This
that he want me to draw after work at home. In his opinion I should have done two to three unpaid overtime every day... A week ago, I have terminated my employment and in the interim two more employee have also stopped working there... Currently, I clean out my archive of 2013 and will sell as much as I can to rebound next month.
I'm totally looking forward to the new, old work now!

Art BooksAlvaroArte asked me if I could suggest some books on realistic drawing and concept art which was timely as I've been thinking about writing a post about it. So, in no particular order here are some books I recommend.Art Books3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Keys to Drawing (Dodson) - A lot of my early drawing lessons a knowledge was based in this book. Great exercises.
Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain (Edwards) - A cornerstone art book, it (re)teaches you how to really observe your subject with various exercises.
Imagination Station (Kistler) - While likely not applicable to you guys, it's a wonderful art book for little kids who find it fun and teaches good art principles.
Understanding Light and Color:
Alla Prima (Schmid) - This is not a how-to painting book but delves into how to think and understand light, color, edges, etc. My painting bible.
Imaginative Realism (Gurney) - This author of Dinotopia does a good job addressing how to approach realistically painting subjects that do
Cubebrush 2.0 BETAHello peeps! Since October, myself and a small team of web developers have been hard at work on a new website where users will be able to sell digital content or browse for art-resources that they might need.Cubebrush 2.0 BETA11 months ago in Personal More Like This
It was heavily inspired by websites like Etsy and Gumroad where a lot of artists are selling products they create and making a living doing so. Our marketplace will feature content specially for artists such as tutorials, brushes, textures, 3D models and much more. It will be amazing if I may say so myself
We are a few weeks away from our initial release and I wanted to let you know what URL to use to reach the new site!
You may be familiar with cubebrush.com which is our current site and will remain live for now. The new website address that we call for now cubebrush 2.0 will be cubebrush.co until we decide to merge the two.
Here it is for now, make sure you subscribe to be notified the second we go live! We're trying our best to build an incredible platform for t

PixieColdBorn in Berlin, Germany, Svenja Jödicke (AKA PixieCold), has established herself as an incredible artist. Painting with watercolors, inks, and markers on watercolor paper, she's able to create a surreal world filled with nature goddesses and vibrant colors and patterns.PixieCold2 years ago in Art Features More Like This

Besides her work with watercolor, PixieCold started experimenting with makeup and photography as well, using real insects (live and dead) in her work.
