Or would be if some dick hadn't decided to use it to make a weapon: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-22421185
Yes, we're back on the gun-debate-thing. And this time the pro-gun crowd are pissing me off because they've set in motion a chain of events that will stifle the potentially fabulous ability to transfer what you create on your computer into the real world.
The man behind it harps on about liberty being his motivation for doing it.
Liberty has to be tempered with responsibility, otherwise you just have anarchy. Using new technology to build a gun doesn't make you a champion for freedom, it makes you an attention seeking moron who gives the powers-that-be REASON to restrict it. They will now do everything the can to prevent the proliferation of the technology. They

Helpful Hints On Reading and Discussing Poetry
Contest Information Below!
Hi! Welcome to projecteducate’s week on poetry forms. I’m here to talk about poetry in more general terms, which might help you with the rest of the week. As a great lover of poetry, it makes me incredibly sad when I see a comment on dA that says
I just don’t get poetry
I like this poem, but I don’t know why
I can’t possibly say anything about this poem, it’s just so much better than I could do
If you can see yourself in any of those comments, this article is for you! By the end of it, you’ll have some idea of what to think about when reading and later commenting on a poem, as well as the opportunity to win some points in a contest. Obviously no article is going to teach you “eve
Woops. I made it interesting. The comics in the Apsara Portfolio can generally be described as “titillation with a thin veneer of story”.Woops. I made it interesting.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
A couple of people have voiced disappointment with the recent Jailer comic because I inverted that formula. I stupidly put what turned out to be an interesting premise in a comic where a good narrative hook actually ruins it. It was intended to be a one-shot, but the build-up has too epic a feel to it, leaving the second half and (apparent) conclusion to be unfulfilling.
Solution: I add more to the story. More little chapters that drip-feed character details, which now exist because I started writing them as soon as people began to voice their dissatisfaction.
It should make the opening “chapter” feel more worthwhile.
The whole thing will still be an Apsara comic, though, so don’t expect an easing of the usual Apsara elements.

I've been away because I've been sick. A good kind of sick, mind you. I have a bun in the oven and have been spending a lovely 3 months clutching the toilet bowl. Holy pizza balls! Pregnancy nausea is horrible! But let me tell ya, once I got over it I felt so awesome that the thought of climbing Mount Everest doesn't even phase me. Haha... so I'd like to think. XD Yep, surviving the first trimester is a real ego booster. I have new respect for all the mommas out there. R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
I'm starting things slow and have been flexing my arting muscles over on tumblr, so if you'd like to see what I'm up to, head on over there: http://roorurooster.tumblr.com. Work on the comics "Gravity" and "NTGW" will start up again, albeit at a slightly decelerated rate. Adjusting to new routines and all that.
And lastly, Happy 2014! I didn't get to post a wish in my journal. Better late than never!

Today's Special is all about Soft Body Dolls.
What is a Soft Body Doll?
Soft body dolls are constructed from fabrics and enhanced with details made from clay, polymer clay, resin or other more solid materials. Some of these creations have sculpted faces and hands/paws or other such details.
Here is an example of fantastic soft body dolls to be found in the Dolls, Plushies & Toys gallery:
Today I would like to introduce six of the best soft body doll makers here on dA! If you check out the Dolls, Plushies & Toys gallery, you will find an abundance of stunning works from a var
Lara's Adventure on QTE Island. For how many more years am I going to have to put up with new titles pretending that: a cutscene, which you have to watch again and again if you don't press a button at the right time, constitutes as "gameplay"?Lara's Adventure on QTE Island.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It never has and never will.
It doesn't make a game more cinematic. It doesn't add a sense of thrill. It simply makes viewers (I can't call them "players", as that would imply they are actually permitted to DO something) dread cutscenes, because they have no idea if they're going to be allowed to enjoy them or if they're going to have to watch them 5 times in a row because they fail to hit the random sequence of buttons indicated on the screen.
A game is thrilling ONLY when the player uses the control scheme effectively within the game environment. If the game needs to take control away from the player and lead them by the nose through a cutscene, it's been lazily constructed and as a result: isn't fun.
If you are a games designer and you have proposed a Quick Time

X-Botch OneAfter recent polls that said sh*tloads (an actual unit of measurement) of people were going to by a PS4 and only the mums of M$ employees were going to buy the VCR shaped Xbox One, Microsoft crapped itself and ditched its plans to charge for use of second-hand games and the requirement for the machine to be kept online, beyond an initial, one-time system set-up.X-Botch One2 years ago in Personal More Like This
M$ are, naturally, trying to pat themselves on the back for this U-Turn, and some people are actually praising them for "listening to consumers".
No. Just, no.
You don't get to pat yourself on the back for having so much money that you can buy your way out of a complete and utter cluster-f**k. You only get to do that when you use common f**king sense and get it right first time. You spend enough bloody money it! There's no excuse!

Yup, after long time, there is another stealing guy in this site.
He posts many famous google photos, clearly claiming them as his own. His last submission was a red fox, which is in fact a very famous National Geographic photo, which is posted by thieves very often. This guy says it was him who took the photo and he was only 30 cm far from this animal. What a liar.
This guy does NOT steal my photos, he steals photos of other authors.
So please, report him. I think his gallery is totally crowded with stolen shots, so if you know the originals, report him too, please.
And please, just report, no rude words for him. Thanks!
I hate those liars so much, especially when they think that blocking you would save their butt.

Historical Disney Princesses FAQRather than answering these individually over and over again, I'm just going to leave this here and add to it as needed:Historical Disney Princesses FAQ4 years ago in Personal More Like This
- I'm not telling you which princess I'm doing next.
- I would appreciate it if you didn't tell me what character I should do next, or what you're looking forward to, or what character you hope I'll do! It's very sweet and I definitely appreciate the sentiment, but consider the fact that you're something like the 400th person to tell me about Elsa, or Anna, or Merida- it's not adding a lot to the conversation.
- No, I'm not doing any Kingdom Hearts characters. There's no particular historical precedent, so they don't really have anything to gain from this series.
Are you going to do Merida?
YES PLEASE STOP ASKING sobsobsob
Are you going to do Elsa and Anna?
Are you going to do any more pieces in this series?
Yes! Let it be assumed that I will continue doing these until stated otherwise.

Back? Not quite...About my breakBack? Not quite...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Despite the increase in activity from me here on DA recently, I'm not entirely "back" in the normal sense of the word. I'm kinda just tip-toeing the waters to see if things have calmed a bit. I'm still trying to get through my issues, with mixed success, and a two month leave of absence isn't going to undo years of stress buildup and stubbornness. But I'm working on it, slowly but surely. You might see some new work here or there, but I don't think I'm ready yet to jump back into doing any of my longer narratives.
In fact, judging by my recent comic's reception, I probably am not ready for a full fledged return just yet...

GodI believe in God. Here's why.God2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I understand the universe and life to be the product of three fundamentals.
Mass, energy, information.
That's nature. More than ever, in our Information Age we should understand how these three interact.
'No God' basically asserts that information arose out of mass and energy.
Just do the math and look at reality. It doesn't seem to add up.
It seems to make more sense that information and energy came first, then mass. Of the three, mass appears to be the most fabricated. Energy organized into division upon division and well packaged boundaries. Remember information is neither energy or mass.
An example of how information interacts with mass is a computer file.
No matter how big the file is, the mass of your computer remains the same.
That file could be transferred to print on paper, a CD or your ipad. The information is identical, but the platforms change. The mass is just the medium that carries the information.

This will be short because I am using my downstairs neighbors' net for a minute to check email but I thought I'd come on and say a little something about this holiday.
A huge thank you to those have served, are serving, and to those who have died for what freedoms we do have today. Even in a world that's so uncertain everyday, in a nation that's not completely sure of it's future due to past circumstances, the brave men and women who fought, fight, and died for us to have safety, freedom, and more importantly the choice to be what we want, who we want, and the ability to not only aspire to be something great but also able to become that something.
Thank you to the veterans of every war, to those station here at home, those in other countries away from home, and to those overseas in war torn countries still.
Most heroes are not like the ones you read in comic books, see in movies, or hear about in fairy tales.

I sink hours of my time into them, so I can say with a degree of authority: modern games are complete and utter manure.
Because they're never finished.
In the race to get them out the door, and thanks in total to broadband connections, they are buggy and full of holes.
You never get a complete game for the huge sum of money you're expected to pay for them.
Case in point: Borderlands 2.
I've just encountered a bug that renders a mission impossible to complete (The "Get to know Jack" mission), meaning I won't be able to fully complete the game ..not that I could anyway, because the game I own isn't actually finished.
When was the last time any of us bought a title that didn't contain huge chunks missing, held back for the sake of DLC?
Well, I didn't buy any for Borderlands (so I've no idea who the f**k Moxxi is or why I should give
