We're now going to be choosing the ten finalists, and there are so many awesome entries I have a feeling we're going to have a tough time! I'm estimating it will take us about a week to choose, and we will then announce the finalists, and you guys get to vote for the winners
If you cannot submit your entry to the contest folder, please send us a note with a link to your entry. We will then request your piece for the gallery. The reason you can't submit is because we have the folder set up so you will only be able to submit once, in order make
Sell yourself.. but not undersellFound this on tumblr..... and I find it incredibly relevant. Especially since I've been preaching that subject to a few others recently, myself. Though this illustrates it perfectly.Sell yourself.. but not undersell2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I also find it amusing and painfully true, at the mention of the 'DeviantArt mentality'.
If you are looking to make honest money with honest, art/writing work.. don't undersell yourself just because some kids that only get an allowance from their parents think its too much. (And don't get me wrong. I was that myself for a long while. Your perception of money's worth changes -allot- as you grow up though.. so don't tell someone something isnt worth it just because you see something like 100$ as allot.. it is to a younger person with no bills. To me though? that's not even 1/4th of my monthly car payment.. )
Most people trying to make decent money by putting more than decent effort into their work have grownup stuff to pay for.. And better ways to make money than wasting time for even less.
of course that me
Massive Star Wars Collab - FinishedHere's our finished work! Thanks for contributing everyone!Massive Star Wars Collab - Finished7 months ago in Personal More Like This
For this collab, we will be drawing all the Star Wars characters we can!
:iconattention-plz: PLEASE READ ALL THE RULES BEFORE SIGNING UP! I don't want you to draw a character and not be allowed in because you missed a rule. ;_;
You don't have to be part of the group to join in the collaboration, but it's HIGHLY recommended at least for the duration of the collab because if I have any updates or new rules, I'm going to send the message here.
Any Star Wars character can only be in the collab once. In other words, if someone has already taken him/her/it, then you can't sign up them again.
When we're done, Zimeta will put together all the individual characters onto one big mural, much like her previous collabs:

SQUIRRELS: Borderline Dwellers
Squirrels occupy a perilous space at the borders of human society.
They are rodents, cousins of rats, yet we feel no revulsion as they hop toward us to ask for a cracker or crust of bread. They are cute enough to be pets, though we rarely domesticate them. They are the cutest animals that hunters regularly kill for food. They add that extra touch of life to a city park or a suburban backyard that completes a beautiful tab
The Price of ArtThis journal entry has been in my mind for awhile, and now with having posted the article about artists deserving respect as paid professionals I think its time to give you my perspective on this. The Price of Art6 years ago in Personal More Like This
What determines the price of art? What is art worth? Is it really worth anything? Why should people buy art?
First of all, the major point in all of this is that the price of art is completely subjective, meaning that its value is mainly determined by the person viewing it. The second part of the value of artwork is determined by the cost of materials, and the cost of the artists time, as well as how in demand their work is. Then there are different price scales for Fine Artists, Graphic Artists, Illustrators, Freelance Artists, Web Designers, etc. All of these factors add up to the price of artwork.
For my purposes, I will discuss Fine Art and Illustration, which is what I am most familiar with.
With fine art, the
If you don't accept criticism, you won't improveThis statement is, to be blunt, incredibly stupid. I see it repeated around DevianART and, as bad as it is hearing it from the general public, I have to laugh uproarously when I see it coming from an artist. I usually try to be more diplomatic, but sometimes my inner Snape just can't be contained. If you don't accept criticism, you won't improve4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Here is the reality of the situation. A person who is building a set of skills can improve without feedback of any kind. Through trial and error, a human being can identify their own mistakes and, with honest work, rectify those mistakes. To say that this is not possible is so counter to reality as to be absurd. I could give thousands of examples but I'll just say this: if it were not for an individual's ability to invent skills from within themselves we would have absolutely no skills to pass on to other people.
Is this a good reason to reject any kind of negative criticism or criticism in general? Does this mean that criticism is useless? Absolutely not. This

I've been away because I've been sick. A good kind of sick, mind you. I have a bun in the oven and have been spending a lovely 3 months clutching the toilet bowl. Holy pizza balls! Pregnancy nausea is horrible! But let me tell ya, once I got over it I felt so awesome that the thought of climbing Mount Everest doesn't even phase me. Haha... so I'd like to think. XD Yep, surviving the first trimester is a real ego booster. I have new respect for all the mommas out there. R.E.S.P.E.C.T.
I'm starting things slow and have been flexing my arting muscles over on tumblr, so if you'd like to see what I'm up to, head on over there: http://roorurooster.tumblr.com. Work on the comics "Gravity" and "NTGW" will start up again, albeit at a slightly decelerated rate. Adjusting to new routines and all that.
And lastly, Happy 2014! I didn't get to post a wish in my journal. Better late than never!

I will like to you to know ...that I am a member of a charity art book project, however we are looking for more artist to fill up the book!
We have some amazing deviants on board already! You can see the member list here:http://kingdom-carousel.deviantart.com/memberlist/
We will donate 100% of the profits from selling the art book to the charity, St. Jude's Children Research Hospital. By becoming an artist for the book, not only will you get a chance participate in this special charity effort and get your artwork displayed in th
#Fella - About: CommentingComments are an integral part of our everyday deviantART life - we communicate with each other through comments, give and get feedback, critiques, or have the most interesting conversation whose origin is one simple comment on a deviation or journal.#Fella - About: Commenting5 months ago in Deviant Events More Like This
This article is all about commenting, including a few commenting tips and thoughts on commenting by fellow deviants, as well as some resoures you might find helpful for commenting.
Keep in mind what kind of deviation it is you're commenting on, as there are different things to focus on in a visual artwork (e.g. colours, shading) than a literature piece (wording, grammar), for example. (DerangedSenpai)
You can use the "sandwich" technique for commenting: start with saying something positive, put negative comments in middle, and also end with something positive. (Sachi-pon)Be specific with your positive and negative statements. Don't just say "It's cute", but mention a reason why you think it's cute; w

The time has come to close the book on another year, and I don't want to waste your important partying time with a lot of jibba-jabba, but thanks everyone for another fantastic year! We got off to a bit of a rought start with things like Las Pegasus Unicon, Alicorn Twilight and Equestria Girls. But as time has gone on, as with most shake-ups and flare-ups, we adapted overcame, and perceived.
It's a wonderful thing being a part of this community. We have a new year of brightly colored candy horses ahead of us and...well, knows what is to come after that! I'm sure there will be more bizarre, unwanted developments (Rainbow Power is looking to be the next likely development!) but whatever comes I plan to still be here and hope you will be as well!
Thanks everyone for 2013. Now let's get out there and kick 2014's sorry butt!

Still sick... But partying isn't exactly my thing. Neither is drinking.
My resolution this year is going to be: to balance myself
Spontaneously, I feel like writing. So here's a story.
In 2011, I was on the right track. On the way to being more centered--I was feeling good and I was accomplishing a lot (mentally and artistically). But then towards the end of the year, things got shitty... I put myself in a bad situation (the kind I didn't know exactly how to respond to)... and as a result things spiraled out of control.
In a nutshell: I lost my sense of self.
January 2012? All the mental [and spiritual] progress I had made up until that point seemingly vanished. I felt like I didn't know myself anymore--I felt as though I had betrayed my self-confidence. Depression inevitably drowned me. My health suffered. I went from 120lb to 109lbs--which made everything worse. Ill body, ill mind...
I disconnected from everything.
Eventually the episod

Friend: "This 'Kony 2012' is someting else... I haven't seen this many white people interested in what's going on in Africa since Mufasa died."
Me: "HEY! Too soon for jokes about Mufasa.."
When I was a kid, I slept with a nightlight... to keep away the monsters that were scared of a small, low-wattage light bulbs.
Master Yoda, are we going the right way?
"Off course, we are."
Hey are you an angel? cause... no hold on, is there a mirror in your... crap, wait. Did it hurt when something about heaven... dammit. Just take your pants off.
Today during dinner, my son had hardly touched his plate and my wife said, "Think of the poor children in Africa," and he replied, "Do they have to eat this shit too?" High-fiving him probably wasn't the best idea..

Adopts for Charity! - an eventTHE GIST:Adopts for Charity! - an event2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Myself and any other artists who want to help will be making adoptables, commissions, or any sort of art for money, which we will donate the proceeds from to one of two charities in this event. Anyone can get involved, so please consider helping out in one of the ways we have listed below.
HOW TO HELP:
1. Selling the work
This is where you do what you do best- make art. Do adoptables, commissions, whatever you would usually do, and sell it. I would ask that you donate, at minimum, 50% of the proceeds to the charity of your choosing. Feel free to stock up on designs and start planning before the event starts.
If you sell things for points, and you don't have a PayPal (both of the charities take PayPal) you can talk to me, I'll have you send the points to me, and I'll donate the 100% USD equivalent of the points to the charity you wanted it to go to.
2. Buying the work
Obviously, this won't work if we don't have buyers. I encour
Task 3 part A: Slayer testGood mornin',Task 3 part A: Slayer test2 years ago in Personal More Like This
it's 6 am and we grouped here for you to succeed on your first task on the way to becoming a soldier. Now is your chance to prove to us that you are not just a lazy, weak, useless walking corpse that'll end up being titan lunch on the first mission!
Set up the gear and get ready, we are going into the woods! Your first task will be to show us how skilled you are, and just how much attention have you been paying in out 'classes'. You must cut at least one fake nape, but make it good, for the speed and depth of the cut will show us just how skilled you are. We have prepared a bunch of test figures, so show us what you're made of!
Speed up you are too slow !
So your task is to draw your character doing the slayer test. They use the gear to fly trough forest and they are supposed to cut out piece of the fake titans nape/flesh. If they succeed or not, that is something up to you and will not
