Abstract and Surreal DDs for MayI think we're much smarter than we were.Abstract and Surreal DDs for May3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Everybody knows that abstract art can be art,
and most people know that they may not like it,
even if they understand there's another purpose to it.
Surrealism is destructive, but it destroys only
what it considers to be shackles limiting our vision.
Enjoy this summary of last month's DDs for Abstract & Surreal Photography:

Getting Exposure For Your Writing And ArtThis article was originally created by :iconAbstract1106: and has been submitted on behalf of :iconbuild-your-platform:Getting Exposure For Your Writing And Art2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Mastering online platforms like deviantArt isn't difficult, but it can be time-consuming. We'll preface this new series with a simple mantra:
"When I do the work, I will get results."
It really is that simple. There will be days when you feel like you're doing a lot with nothing happening in return, but I encourage you to see beyond the beginning stages to the big picture. At first, you are the only one talking about what you do. After a while, others will talk about it too, and then you don't have to work so hard. But you will always have to pay attention and you will always have to give more than take. So just get used to it. The payoff is worth it: getting to do what you love for a living.
Since we are doing this on online platforms like deviantArt and etsy and Facebook and whatnot, this series will focus on using online

Smilla's Sense of StreetAre there places were street photography is impossible? Are there countries easier than others, or harder than others? How is it street shooting like in exotic places, places you never visited, places that are completely different from what you are used to? I asked a few street photographers around the world to share with us their experiences.Smilla's Sense of Street1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
This article was written for us by :iconwchild: from...the Arctic Circle!
LOCATION & ME
I live in a small town in the northern Finland close to the Arctic Circle. I have been photographing for many years and for a long time I concentrated mainly on landscapes (or any scapes for that matter) and abandoned buildings combined with a lot of HDR shooting and heavy post processing. After some time I felt like I have been shooting in every possible location, in every possible light and from all the possible angles. It was around that time I somehow found out about street photography, got interested in it and realized that in this ge

Masters of Photography part IVLewis Hine (1874-1940) was an American sociologist and photographer. Hine used his camera as a tool for social reform. His photographs were instrumental in changing the child labor laws in the United States.Masters of Photography part IV3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Hine studied sociology at the University of Chicago, Columbia University and New York University. He became a teacher in New York City at the Ethical Culture School, where he encouraged his students to use photography as an educational medium. The classes traveled to Ellis Island in New York Harbor, photographing the thousands of immigrants who arrived each day. Between 1904-1909, Hine took over 200 plates (photographs), and eventually came to the realization that documentary photography could be employed as a tool to effectuate social change and reform. In 1906, Hine became the staff photographer of the Russell Sage Foundation. Here Hine photographed life in the steel-making districts and people of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In 1908, he became the photograp

So I held back for a while
You pushed me so hard, I had to go
I tried to be strong, then I failed

Well your soul is fractured
I know what it's like as well
I have sold my soul
I traded it for hollow gold

I'm taking the opportunity to kindly remember you to suggest me DDs:
MOVE YOUR BUTTS AND SUGGEST ME DDs, YOU BASTARDS!
Ehm... No kidding, suggesting DDs is a great help for me in supporting street and street photographers on this website .
Leaving you with a quote from, and a couple of links about, Saul Leiter, great street photographer recently passed away.
"I never thought of the urban environment as isolating. I leave these speculations to others. It’s quite possible that my work represents a search for beauty in the most prosaic and ordinary places. One doesn’t have to be in some faraway dreamland in order to find beauty. I realize that the search for beauty is not highly popular these days. Agony, misery and wretchedness, now these are worth perusing."
"Some photographers think that by taking photos of human misery, they are addressing a serious problem.
I do not think that misery is
