Metroid: HoU: The Fangirl upgrade"The Fangirl upgrade." Samus said, selecting the upgrade. She was currently standing in a sparkling clean room, the adjacent rooms the same. All the writing had been removed from the walls, and all the dust had been swept away in Samus' cleaning frenzy. She still wasn't quite happy about upgrades that made her act like that, but was curious as to just what a Fangirl upgrade could mean. Surely it couldn't do what the name said, how would that even work? Whatever it could do, it would be better than cleaning and speaking in some incomprehensible dead language. She took the upgrade from the machine and inserted it into her zero suit, waiting for the changes to begin.Metroid: HoU: The Fangirl upgrade3 years ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
Quickly, Samus' suit began to glow, before ceasing quickly. The material of her suit began to change, changing from the latex-like material to a soft, but cheaper looking shiny fabric, losing the slightly hard quality to it. While it was still tight, it was even thinner than her normal suit, and rather than the flawless secon
Ridley Reborn Chapter 14Samus placed her hand back over the console, fingers dancing delicately over the buttons as she manipulated the tractor beam to draw Ridley into the ship. His body inched closer and closer as the ship slowed his fall to a halt. He reached out and grasped at the opening, fingers finding their grip, pulling closer, losing grip and finding it all over again. With a grunt and one last strain of effort he hauled himself through the hatch and clung to a handhold for support, trying to find his footing.Ridley Reborn Chapter 144 years ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
Samus pushed another few buttons, leveling off and closing the opening behind him before turning her attention to what the monitor was displaying. The scanner in front of Samus was locked on the Ridley copy and showed it falling to the ground with a hard thud. She grabbed a joystick and gave it a few gentle nudges before pulling the trigger. The whole ship shook slightly from the force of its cannons firing and punching holes in the dragon beneath them and it knocked Ridley off balance, sendin
Ridley Reborn Chapter 13There was a certain charm to the structures Ridley had cobbled together in his short stay at the temple. Chozo architecture was advanced but favored elegant simplicity to ornate extravagance and the stone hut was as simple as could be. It had taken him several days to find enough tablets on masonry to be able to coerce the stones into the shape he wanted them to be in and stay together but the end result was perfectly smooth surfaces and even angles. It even had a stool made from woven branches stretched over a frame and a bed that he made in the same way. The ship had more comforts but making something with his own two hands filled him with such a swell of pride that he couldn't bear to not make use of it, if only for a little while, even if his back ached a little each morning.Ridley Reborn Chapter 134 years ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This

Ridley Reborn Chapter 1It had been a cycle by the time science team had recovered all of Ridley's remains from Tallon IV and brought them back for processing. The Hunter had been a thorn in their side ever since and without the original to copy from the clones of Ridley's body did nothing to prevent the Hunter from destroying the Leviathan Seeds, even when they replaced most of the two Meta Ridley copies with even more cybernetics. Now they turned to what genetic material remained and the brain that they had so carefully preserved. Now that phazon was no longer available to them, the pirates turned to a new weapon forged from pieces of armor chipped from the Hunter and the mountains of data and test results they had accumulated. And with Ridley's new body to guide it, the Hunter would be no more.Ridley Reborn Chapter 16 years ago in Science Fiction More Like This

Metroid Other M: A RetrospectiveOr, how Other M does not fit into the Metroid canon.Metroid Other M: A Retrospective1 year ago in Reviews & Guides More Like This
It’s been almost four years since the release of the last Metroid game, and sadly this latest hiatus was kicked off, at least for me, on a very disappointing note.
I can’t even begin to explain how much of a disappointment this game was for me, but I’d probably attribute that to the ecstatic hype I allowed myself to fall into in the months before its release.
While the gameplay was pretty decent on its own, the linear style was a huge step down from the exploration aspect Metroid fans have come to cherish. I miss the days of Metroid gaming where I had the ever-present question in my mind; “Where the fuck do I go?”
Despite its linear take, Other M is a decently fun game to play, combining aspects of both the 2-D shooting style of the original games with hack-n-slash elements like dodging and “finishing moves”.
But while the gameplay in itself wasn’t terribly disappointing, (aside from th

Metroid: HoU: The Medusa Upgrade"The Medusa upgrade." Samus said, selecting the upgrade from the list. She recalled that there were a few alien species named after the original human term, and that involved snakes. Since she seemed to be doing snakes recently, she thought that she might as well get those out of the way, and hey, maybe it'd be something useful for a change. Immediately, Samus felt her scalp begin to tingle, and immediately felt it with her hand, running it through her hair to see what was happening. However, she couldn't find any immediate change, and decided to give it a minute. After half a minute, she noticed a rather thick lock of hair drop down over her eyes. She brushed it out of the way, only to have another drop down. And another. Which was odd, since she kept the front half of her hair specifically cut to keep out of her eyes.
She began to walk towards the mirror to take a look at herself,
Metroid: HoU: The Justin Bailey upgrade"The Justin Bailey upgrade." Samus selected. She wasn't quite sure why she had decided to take an upgrade that she knew would transform her into one of her greatest foes. Maybe something left over from the Fangirl upgrade? Either way, it seemed to be a useful upgrade on its own. But afterwards, one upgrade had caught her eye because of its odd title. None of the other upgrades were named after a specific person, and who was this Justin Bailey person anyway? Samus had decided to find out, and took the upgrade from the machine, inserting it into her zero suit.Metroid: HoU: The Justin Bailey upgrade3 years ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
Samus' zero suit began to glow, the colour changing from blue to a light purple, the lines and patterns of the suit fading as it became a solid colour. Just below her knees, the fabric began to recede, leaving her with a pair of boots as it shrank upwards, stopping at her rear as it curved upwards into a leotard design, leaving her legs bare. Her hands became uncovered as the neckline of her suit began to drop, lowering until it be
Ridley Reborn Chapter 9Ridley walked towards his sleeping quarters and yawned. Samus had spent about three hours torturing him, and he ached all over. She had stripped him almost bare, tied him to a chair and proceeded to use various means of inflicting pain to get information out of him. He had been honest from the start, but she had needed to make sure. Still, that didn't give her the right to break several of his bones even though they could quickly be restored by his zero suit. He slumped onto his bed and closed his eyes, turning off the lights. Rolling over, he made himself comfortable.Ridley Reborn Chapter 96 years ago in Science Fiction More Like This
It was then that he noticed his arm was wrapped around something soft and there was a sound like a small weapon being charged. Samus fired her paralyzer at him right in the chest and the shock caused his muscles to contract painfully, making him roll out of bed and onto the floor. I thought we agreed I was going to sleep in here for now. Ridley mumbled something incoherent while the effects of her attack wore
MirrorIf nothing else, I am a survivor.Mirror5 years ago in Fan Fiction More Like This
I survived the attack of my first home, survived the environment of Zebes- twice over now. I've fought Ridley and Kraid, countless little vermin that swarm the caverns, even Mother Brain herself; and that's saying nothing of the metroids. And I've survived being forced to crash, to lose all my weapons. Being forced to hide in the dark corners where they can't find me, or cramped tunnels where I could barely breathe.
It's humiliating. I was called in because I could prevail where others failed miserably, and I'm reduced to the bare minimums, cowering like a child. No, even when I was young, I had never been this scared. I've never really stared death in the face like this, my choices at this point are to stay here and starve, or go out and be killed by the pirates.
I just can't see any other way. I am going to die here.
The strange thing is... realizing this? I didn't feel as frightened. Yes, it meant admitting I wasn't leaving Zebes alive. But I

Only Moments ago, Samus had fled the planet. She destroyed my ship, and then returned to hers and left... After she had faded from my sight, I walked over to my ship, and extinguished the flames. The extent of the damage wasn't bad enough to total it, but it was out of commission until I could call for its repair. Moments after the last of the flames had gone out, Ghor and Gandrayda came running through the door.
"Rundas!" Gandrayda called out "Were is she?"
"...Gone" I answered "She decimated my ship and then took off..."
"Why would she do all this...?" Gandrayda asked.
"Because she doesn't want us following her" Ghor answered "She's afraid of hurting us again... Her psyche was already in such a traumatized state that seeing what she did to you sent her into shock, and she fled because she was afraid and ashamed of what she had done"
"So you're her therapist now?" I asked, my anger showing.

Ridley Reborn Chapter 11Ridley prodded the side of the metal casing on the table before him. It was probably deceptively simple, but he really had no idea what scrap materials Samus had used to make it and he was wary of it suddenly falling to pieces or bursting into flames if he pushed the wrong button. He slid one of the levers on the side back and forth but nothing happened. There were two buttons on the other side and he couldn't decide which to check first. He settled on the left one and pressed it, watching the device spring to life. The slots on the top slid closed and the whole thing began to heat up slightly. He set it down and watched for a moment before it popped open and jumped slightly.Ridley Reborn Chapter 116 years ago in Science Fiction More Like This

"Join... you?" I repeated "Are you insane!? After all you've done to me, and after the hell I've suffered through because of you, you expect me to ally with you!?"
"Yes" He said simply.
"What happened to killing me?" I asked "Where did that need go!?"
"As I said earlier, I am capable of rational thought now Samus" He said "Not to say that killing you didn't cross my mind... But after some thought, I found it wasteful... You are a rare specimen after all"
I growled in anger. He chuckled.

I asked myself a simple question: 'what if she worked for me?'" He said looking like he was enjoying the thought "I couldn't believe how much enjoyment
Metroid: HoU: The Sprite Upgrade"The Sprite upgrade." Samus said, selecting the upgrade from the machine. The Golem upgrade looked useful, but not enough to justify her suit being converted into the material needed to give her that form. After a minute of waiting, Samus realised that nothing had happened. She supposed it might be defective, and walked back over to the computer to remove the upgrade. But when she looked at it, it seemed to be at head height with her! She realised that it seemed to be getting higher and larger, and it couldn't be getting bigger on its own Samus looked down to find that the ground was moving towards her faster and fa

Mother Has LearnedSamus shot open the door leading to her final foe's lair. The darkness of Tourian had forced her into activating her night visor, and in each room, whatever light remained from the last faded more and more. Here, though, it was brighter, and Samus could feel, not only see, why. The narrow but tall and also deep hallway was shaking tremendously, and an orange glow was creeping up the walls. She looked down and noticed that she was standing on a platform above the actual ground, and that rising up to her platform was a pool of lava. When she looked up, she saw rinkas, a type of security system that shot ring shaped, plasma encased, artificial organisms at intruders, flying toward her. They were much like white blood cells, except that they could not change directions once they were fired. But they could penetrate walls, so there was no hiding from them. In addition, there were also laser cannons lining the high ceiling that Samus could not destroy. Luckily their aim was faulty, and theyMother Has Learned3 years ago in Sci-Fi More Like This

My head was spinning, and my body was becoming weaker by the moment. I felt like something was sucking the life from me. I fell to the ground, no longer able to maintain my balance. The dizzy, fuzzy feeling of light-speed travel feels even more distant and attached, like I'm not in my body. I know it's getting worse. My body doesn't feel like itself anymore; it feels as if I'm trapped in an overpowered lump of flesh that isn't responsive when I need it to be, yet the world around it seems too frail and delicate to handle this powerful form. My own strength frightens me, frightens me more than anything else has so far. I know that I'm not relying on the enhancements of the suit anymore, not how it once was. The shielding to protect it and me is superficial, neither it or I needing much protection anymore. If it were possible for the chozo suit to protect me from this poison in my body, it would have expelled it long ago.
