Korra, Book 2 Update & this week's EpisodeBill Rinaldi (Martial Arts Coordinator / Videographer / Production Coordinator/ and Doorman) just updated us on what is happening on book 2 of Korra. They have finished ten episode storyboards of Book 2, and are now working on the Season Finale. They said season, not series by the way. They are really coming together fast on season two. We will see something on Book 2 later in the year. But right now, one thing that is important to all of us is that if we really would like a BOOK 3. Then, we need to show Nick that we love Korra, and we want more. If the show does well then maybe. Keep up the blogging, the E-mailing, the fanart, the re-watching of old episode, the phone calls to nickelodeon asking for more. If they see that we want more, they will give it to us. So, keep it up.Korra, Book 2 Update & this week's Episode3 years ago in Personal More Like This

EXPECT THE UNEXPECTEDSo I was at the doctor's office yesterday, and this doctor always overbooks his appointments. So, to make use of the time, I brought my pad, paper, and sharpener, and worked up some sketches. True enough, he kept me waiting (I eventually left without seeing the guy because it was going to take an hour and a half....!)EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED2 years ago in Personal More Like This
While I was sketching in the waiting room, this mom comes in with her two young kids, I'm guessing, around 4 years old. They're obviously nice kids, but being in a doctor's office was upsetting to them, and so, they're carrying on, and the mom is trying her best to keep them from going nuclear.
This wasn't annoying me at all. I'm a dad. I have great empathy for kids, and frankly, I felt like whining at this point, too!
But I thought I could make the situation a little better for the mother and her banshees. So I put away my sketches, and drew a cartoon teddy bear. Then I told the mother that I'm a cartoonist, and that I drew something her kids might like. (I always ask pe
ARTIST'S BLOCK - HOW TO BEAT ITHow do you deal with "Artist's Block?"ARTIST'S BLOCK - HOW TO BEAT IT2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I don't care who you are, or how well you draw, one of these days, the Art Block Fairy is going to pay you a little visit. When that day comes, ideas will be scarcer than possums driving pickup trucks. Despite the randomness of that metaphor, how you handle artist's block will decide when you'll get those creative juices flowing again. Some of you will decide to pause and have a snack. I can tell you from experience that this doesn't do much to kick-start the imagination. When that doesn't work, there's always the option of getting a second snack. But eventually, you'll get too frustrated and too full to keep doing that. There's got to be another solution. So you decide to follow the prevailing wisdom, which is to go for a walk to refresh yourself, in the hopes that inspiration might return. The walk is pleasant, but almost mythical in its fecklessness. If walks worked, the beach would be teaming with cartoonists and write
Don't Go to art school!I've been seeing this around the DA journals all day, and it sounds like my kind of journal! It's written by an extremely talented environment artist named Noah Bradley. So I finally read it, and yeah, Noah is right on top of it. Check it out, and lets start the conversation about art and education in this country:Don't Go to art school!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Don't go to art school
The traditional approach is failing us. It's time for a change.
I'VE HAD IT.
I will no longer encourage aspiring artists to attend art school. I just won't do it. Unless you're given a full ride scholarship (or have parents with money to burn), attending art school is a waste of your money.
I have a diploma from the best public art school in the nation. Prior to that I attended the best private art school in the nation. I'm not some flaky, disgruntled art graduate, either. I have a quite successful career, thankyouverymuch.
But I am s
HEY, WHERE HAVE I BEEN??Greetings:HEY, WHERE HAVE I BEEN??2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've been absent from DA for a couple of weeks, while working on a new collection of How-To-Draw videos, like this one, below, of my evil dog, "Rusty":
With the launch of my new book series ("Draw Manga Now!") at Michael's Arts and Crafts stores nationwide, and the development of my new website, drawcartoonsnow.com , my schedule has hasn't allowed me to respond to all of the requests, questions and comments I receive on DA. A friend of mine, who owns a topnotch graphic designer studio, said that no other frequently published author he knows answers his fan mail and comments personally, the way I do. So I felt okay about closing down my DA account. Then I received some email from DA members, which caused me to reflect on the fact that for many of you, I am your only contact to professional publishing. It was v-e-r-y helpful to me, when I was an aspiring artist, to have that contact, for encouragement as well as for career advice. I f
HOW DO YOU HANDLE "ARTIST'S BLOCK?"We've all heard of "Writer's Block." What about artists? There are times when you just can't seem to get a drawing right. What can you do about it? Well, some people will counsel you to take your mind off of work, do some exercise, or go for a walk along the beach. Yeah, right, like getting sand in my shoes is going to put me in a better mood. And besides, if that worked, there would beHOW DO YOU HANDLE "ARTIST'S BLOCK?"2 years ago in Personal More Like This
throngs of frustrated cartoonists wandering the beach in search of ideas.
And as if the self-imposed pressure isn't enough, there are usually deadlines looming! So I do exactly what they tell you not to do when you're stuck, and it works for me: I keep drawing over and over and over again, until I get it right. I may try a different approach, or a new pose, but aside from dashing into the kitchen for a refill on my bathtub-sized cup of black coffee, I keep my you-know-what in my chair at my drawing desk and plow forward. I figure that the Gods-Of-Frustration, who are having fun toying with my brain, wil

WHICH TYPE OF CARTOONIST ARE YOU?There are two basic types of cartoonists. It's not based on which subjects they draw. Or how successful they are. Or whether one cartoonist's dad can beat up the other cartoonist's dad. (Unless you happen to have the stronger dad.) It has to do with the originality of the work. But I mean something very specific by that:WHICH TYPE OF CARTOONIST ARE YOU?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Most cartoonists enjoy drawing existing characters, like Spiderman, Naruto, Finn from "Adventure Time," and others. Recreating an established character, in different poses and in different scenes, is a very important skill for a cartoonist. In fact, most professional artists primarily draw other people's characters. For example, the artists who draw Spiderman and Batman in today's comics are not the people who invented those characters. And the people who draw the storyboards for the animated shows you love probably didn't invent those characters, either. Although someone had to invent the characters in a video game, it takes many more

Take your art to higher lever in 4 simple steps!
For people who are serious about drawing and want to make career in art! And for me to stop getting questions on how to practice, or how do you get better
Are you stuck and don't know how to carry on making great art?
You just want to draw better?
If an answer to any of these questions is 'yes' then you might find this interesting...
Since the only thing I ever acknowledged myself good at is getting better I decided to share a couple of tricks.
I truly believe it works in every single case.
It's true. You can get out now or shut up and listen and get better.
(oh and do I need to mention that you need to draw a lot to get better?
I didn't draw a lot and still got better because I followed the steps listed below. But yeah, may not work without drawing a lot...)
Step 1. Honesty.
Be aware of your own limitations. They're usually bigger than you really think, despite what people say. I won't be talking about fals

It's never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There's no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you're proud of. If you find that you're not, I hope you have the strength to start all over again.
'The Curious Case of Benjamin Button'
My work has been chosen for this year's EXPOSÉ. For a good start. It's a huge honor to be listed among the best artists out there.
But holy shit. You know what sucks about aiming high - the neverending fear that after all you won't meet the standards (=my life)

1) I want to invite you to join my new group on Linked in: DRAWING MANGA & CARTOONS. It's for people, like yourselves, who want to network, publicize their art, and look for opportunities to exchange ideas:
2) Does anyone have the time, or interest in starting a new DA group with me, on How-To-Draw techniques and tutorials? O'm looking for someone technically able to do it, who can devote the time to make it successful, and who also can stay involved in it.
3) Can anyone please tell me how to advertise a drawing contest on other groups? I've got one coming up, where I'm going to give away prizes to the top two contestants.

Anyhow, I was thinking...
What if I hold a contest to see who colours my art? *O*
Here's some important information:
Colour this picture of my OC Priestess ->
The goal is to use whatever colours you think best suits this image. You can use any media that you like.

Take a moment, right now, and absorb my words. Don't think about that assignment due tomorrow, or next week, or next month. Don't think about the razor sitting two feet away from where you sit, or hidden away in the room beside you. Don't think about the bitches in your school, or workplace, that like to turn an ignorant ear towards your problems. Block out your parents yelling, their screams. Block out the voices, for a minute. Do it for me.
Think about this: You're alive. You're still alive. Think back to yesterday, when you smiled because that person did that one thing for you. Think back to that second, even if it didn't last, of happiness. Wasn't it fantastic? Wouldn't you like to experience that again? Don't stop reading; I know how hard it is to believe. I know more than most of the dark endless pit that keeps dragging you down. I know you can't climb out, an

My mum's been off/on with her "happy" face -.-" At times, she completely ignores me. When she's bored she calls me and she's all laughing and chattery. Can I be blamed if I'm grumpy when I answer the phone? I know she only calls me because she's bored of her friends and she can't get into contact with my sisters..

SpeechlessSeriously. The sheer horrifying nature of the internet has left me speechless for now.Speechless2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I live in a free country, where freedom of speech is an important matter. A long while ago, when I was still young and at school, we learned how to do a proper discussion in class. We were learned that provocation isn't that bad to get a message across, but that you should always have at least some respect for the people you discuss with, and talk with them with calmness and reason. If you lose your temper, you lose the argument. That's what I've learned.
The reactions I got on my last journal, however, have left met both sad and speechless. Because I'm unable to grasp how people can be so downright insulting towards a fellow human being. To a member of the same website....
My journal wasn't meant to tell people how much I hate fanartist. Because... I don't really hate them. I just feel sad about how hard it is to get attention for original work in the sea of fanart ou
DEALING WITH REJECTIONThere's not an artist alive who hasn't experienced rejection. Everyone has had to run the gauntlet of editors, agents, publishers and art directors. Most advice on this subject centers on ways to cope with the emotional toll of receiving rejections to your submissions.DEALING WITH REJECTION2 years ago in Personal More Like This
And while dealing with the hurt feelings of being told "no thanks," what's even more important, in the real world of publishing, is to keep going forward despite that ups and downs that you'll feel. I want to give you a few words of advice and encouragement along those lines. Sure, I'd like to tell you something that will take the sting out of receiving a rejection. But the truth is, if you want to succeed, you need to focus on going forward DESPITE the negative feelings. Put plainly, if you want to succeed, don't wait to feel better before you move forward again. Keep going forward anyway. I want you to succeed. That's my primary goal. If that's yours, too, then keep reading...!

Vampire CollegeThe other day, my dad handed me a printout of an article from a conservative website about going to college. Dad does this from time to time, I think because he suspects I'm a filthy liberal, and wants to send a few shots across the bow to see if I fire back. I usually don't, because I've been through enough warfare to have a better idea of when to pick my battles.Vampire College2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Well, I won't reference the article directly, but the gist of it was that college is a bit of a costly venture that doesn't always yield the results it promises for the price of admission, and may actually do more harm than good. (High schoolers, meditate on that for a minute, please)
Now, the article itself sort of descended into a screed about how colleges just crank out liberals anyway, and liberals tend to vote Democrat, and we should just bust the whole thing up because dear God, we need conservative voters or they'll have a WOMAN in the White House next...
...Which is unfortunate, because "liberal conspiracy" aside, I
